There are many things of nobility in my life.

I have a mansion, forgot the price; my Maserati does one-eighty-five; I have a limo, ride in the back; I make hit records, my fans, they can't wait; I go to parties, sometimes until four...

You may be lucky, or you may be like me (blessed). If you're either of these things, you'll come to Noble and find the same Banana Cream Pie I found. After eating it, you'll kick back singing, "life's been good."

I am having a hard time writing a really glaring review for a place that deserves one because of the company I was with when I ate here at Noble. You see part of my meal went down in lumps because of the pompous ass I was sitting across from - but I digress.

On to the review.

I enjoyed a Ichabod Pumpkin ale to start along with a Caesar salad. Interestingly enough the Caesar salad was described as an "eggless/anchovieless" vinaigrette. Though there was some type of fish taste to it -- that I don't want to think on too long.

For my entree I had the Yellow fin Tuna which was seared just right.

To end I had the warm apple-cranberry crisp which was incredible.

I would like to go back again to Noble -with more enjoyable company next time.

I was running a little late for brunch a few weeks ago.  The previous evening had been exceedingly brutal and I had the headache to prove it.  Pulling my torn and tattered corpse from the comfort of my bed had been a monumental exercise in pain.

I had no memories; all that remained was an empty wallet, a complimentary admission pass to the Gold Club, and a receipt from the Pen and Pencil.  Nothing but ragged reminders of a terrible, horrible, no-good, booze fueled night of debauchery.  My sense of regret was palpable.  I'm definitely too old for this nonsense, but here I am again, proclaiming this to be the final straw.  They say that repetition of abnormal or destructive behaviors is a sign of mental illness.  If this is the case, then I need a serious evaluation.

As my inner dialogue spiraled down into the depths of a Jungian nightmare, my only glimmer of hope was the feeling that perhaps a light-hearted brunch with some decent, manner-born friends could wipe the stale taste of shame from my palette.  Noble American Cookery had been proposed and I'm mildly invigorated at the prospect of adding a new breakfast spot to the repertoire as I was beginning to tire of the usual haunts.

A wave of anxiety washes over me when I pass John's Books causing flashbacks of late night whippet runs and threatening to quell my slowly improving disposition.  However, once I turn the corner onto Sansom, all is forgotten and I remember how much I like this block.  Quaint, but harboring some serious fire power beneath the surface of its unassuming façade - Vic, Porcini, Village Whiskey, Tinto.

Noble looks impressive from the outside.  Hip, clean, simple.  Just what I need.  Several of my friends are huddled around a table towards the front engaged in a heated debate regarding topics that I'm certain have little merit.  All are well-dressed.  Mr. Fox, apparently in a sporting mood, even went so far as to wear a tie.  A little over the top in my opinion, especially considering he's also wearing loafers with bare feet, but I feel good about my decision to wear the houndstooth blazer and even better about my argyle socks.

A loud grumble from my gut announces my presence and I realize that I'm absolutely famished as I take my seat.

Opening the menu, I'm taken aback by what I find.  It reads like a listing at Dorsia, circa 1988.  Decadent culinary concoctions abound.  Fruits mixed with meats mixed with grains mixed with vegetables.  SNAFU.  Apple punishing omelet, beet suffocating burger, tangerine brutalizing char, grapefruit defiling duck, parsnip molesting skate - the bizarre musings of a Danceteria cowboy.  Where am I and how did I get here?  This is not my beautiful house.  This is not my beautiful wife.

I order the burger, hoping the grease can wrestle my flip-flopping stomach into submission.  I'm careful to politely insist that my burger be served beet free.  The beet invasion of 2k9 is in full force and I want no part of this central European plague.  Doesn't seem to be an issue and the burger arrives promptly.

Frankly, it's amazing.  The bun is lightly toasted to perfection, the burger is well cooked, the special sauce is incredible and it's managed to erase all vestiges of last night's insanity from my memory banks.  Consider me a huge fan.

My appetite satisfied, I can't help but feel infuriated.  Why do they ruin their delicious food with absurd flavor pairings?  Who needs uniqueness when you have quality?  Let the food speak for itself.  Do your thing and keep it simple.  I'll be back, but I'll definitely be special ordering despite the fact that this social transgression is one of my most intense pet peeves.  Hate to be that guy but there's no way I'm eating beets on my burger.  It's treasonous at the very least.  A man's got to take a stand every once in a while.

The bill comes and it's time to pay.  As my friend reaches for his money clip, I spot a Gold Club complimentary admission card...at least I wasn't the only one.

I went to this place for the first time and it was very good. The atmosphere is cool - rustic but nice. It was quiet so good to be able to hear everyone at our table.

I had the cauliflower salad which I loved. Other first courses people I was with had were the liver, scallops, goat cheese, and crap cake. Everyone liked their dishes. They were also good size portions - bigger than apps.

For second course, 4 of us had the trout. I thought it was very well done. Then again, I don't eat a lot of trout. But it was tasty. It came with couscous which I didn't find to be special. I was told that the skirt steak and chicken were great as well.

Now on to dessert - we had the banana cream, pecan pie, and apple crumb. The portions were large - the size of first courses. They all looked great!

Drinks are terrific. Without naming names, better drinks than some other "drink intensive" restaurant/bars in the area. Flavors are direct and purposeful when necessary and subtle when not.

Unfeigned bartender is truly hard to come by.

This was a tremendously disappointing dinner.

I took my girlfriend for a Friday night/restaurant week date.

We were seated promptly upon our arrival (we had a reservation and were on time).  So this was good, but expected.  The hostess also gave us a restaurant week menu.

Anyway I hate to make you wait for the rest of the review, like we had to wait for anything else to happen at Noble - someone to bring us water, take a drink order, bring the non-restaurant week menu (which was essentially the restaurant week menu with sides - not the same as the menu on the website), or deliver our mediocre food.  The waitress did apologize everytime she came over for the delay, without explanation, which wasn't much of a consolation.

And yeah the food was bland and uninspired.  I had the heirloom tomato and crab puff; the tomato was tasty but I can't give the restaurant credit for a tasty heirloom tomato.  The puff was okay, but wasn't very crabby.

We both splurged up to the $43 option to get the pan seared ribeye.  It came with some herb butter and a handful of vegetables.  K summed it up best - "this taste like wedding food".  Edible, but nothing exciting.  One of our steaks was like 1/2 inch thick on one end, which resulted in it being overcooked on one side.

The desserts might have been the best (aside from the coffee stout draught beer I had mmmm) but still were very ordinary.  I had the peanut butter cake with berry sauce (too many flavors) and K had the strawberry shortcake, which was basically a pile of strawberries smothered in cream, near a biscuit.  At this point we had had enough anyway and were ready to go.

I guess yelp had given me some high expectations of this restaurant, but if I am going to spend $100 on dinner for 2 in Philadelphia, I should go home with a smile on my face.  We did not.  I will not be back.

I wasn't sure what to expect from Noble, since I had heard mixed reviews, but I ended up being impressed.

My friend and I split the caramelized cauliflower salad to start, which was tasty but nothing to write home about. The real treat came when I started in on my entree -- the pork shoulder with red lentils -- and was blown away! It was truly truly delicious. The meat was incredibly tender and complimented perfectly by the tangy sweet sauce. So so so good. I also tried a few bites of my friend's skate dish which I also really enjoyed -- savory yet refreshing, but bar none I would recommend the pork dish to anyone.

The dessert we shared was good but fairly forgettable -- a chocolate-peanutbutter confection -- but the memory of my entree is still in my mind so I'll let it slide.

Aside from the food, the ambiance is lovely -- spacious and fresh, and the service is attentive yet easy going.

A great spot! Definitely check it out.

With great men like Christian and Theo behind the bar, and an outstanding homemade scrapple that I am craving at this very moment, there is no doubt I will return to the bar.  However the other food I ate on my first visit was very hit and miss.

My veal sweetbreads were themselves too rubbery and overpowered by its accompaniments.  And Noble serves, what is without a doubt, the worst cheese plate in the city.  Yes the cheese portions themselves were enormous, but there was nothing served with them save for some too thinly sliced pieces of toasted bread.  And the Blue Cheese was completely inedible.  I love blue cheeses and I like stinky wash rind cheeses.  This was trash.

I want to love this place, but I think I would rather just go to Southwark where they do seasonal, classic American perfectly everytime.

Noble is super pretty. I love the bar that looks like a tree, the glass, the skylights, the painted brick, the half-finished frames. Thankfully, the food and drinks live up to the ambience.

I'm going to add Noble's bar into my regular rotation. They have an interesting, mostly local beer list, and the wine list was clearly put together by someone who cares. The short list of cocktails is creative and unique, and the ones I tried (something with lemon and birch beer, another with tequila and apple cider) were refreshing, delicious, and not too sweet. Also, the bartender is friendly, made great suggestions, and has an exceptional moustache.

Time to eat. I ordered the baby romaine to start, which is a very nice salad. The asparagus with herbs and a fried egg was fantastic, and breaking the egg and watching the yolk flow out over the asparagus...divine. Chickpea fries are strange and good, and my friend praised his foie gras app (I shake my fist). The cheese plate included something mild, a strong, tasty blue, and the sharpest cheese I have ever eaten.

There's a veggie burger on the bar menu. It comes on a big fluffy buttery roll, dressed up with a slice of beet, and crispy sea salty fries and tiny little pickles, and it is good. However, our waiter suggested the vegetarian specials. I got a sweet onion rice pudding with a green pea sauce and carrots, fava beans and perfectly cooked chanterelles - fantastic. Friends said the fish (we had halibut and striped bass at the table) was notably good.

Finished up with sorbets (the cucumber, I wish I could eat that 3 times a day in the summer!), carrot cake (moist, fluffy and spiced just right) and the chocolate peanut butter thing. You know what's even more appealing than cracking a fried egg? Cracking a chocolate cake and watching peanut butter ooze out. Damn. The peanut butter marshmallow on the side is lovely and made with agar agar instead of gelatin.

I will be back, for a quick drink in a nice place, or for a noteworthy meal.

I went here on restaurant week, so it may not be the most accurate review in terms of their everyday menu...

I had the heirloom tomato, watermelon salad with a crab puff on the side. It was a nice savory and sweet combo, but the saltiness of the vinaigrette made it a bit too salty. The crab puff was a nice touch though. I proceeded to the half roasted chicken w/ summer squash casserole, which was really nice. Chicken had a cripsy crust and juicy meat. Very well cooked and seasoned. The squash casserole reminded me of my mom's 'calabacitas' minus the queso oaxaqueño. Overall a very pleasant dish. Not too fancy with the ingredients which is refreshing.... (white truffle oil and all that is such bullshit to inflate the price). The dessert was something a little underwhelming, but still tasty. It was strawberry shortcake. This dessert tasted good overall, but I'm missing those sweet, sweet california strawberries I get from the roadside vendors. The shortcake/bread was delicious.

I think this place is more of a 3.5 stars, because although all my food was better than average overall and the service is great. I just had to be generous though. Also they mainly have bottled beer here. I think only 2 beers on draft. A big minus in my book.

I really enjoyed this place.   The staff were all very friendly and the drinks I had (blood and sand and a martini) were delicious.

It's not a place for the faint of liver, heart, or wallet though.

I poached some of my friend's mussels.  I love mussels and these mussels were delicious.    Another friend of mine had a burger, and she's a burger expert.  She loved it.   I'll let her review it because I told her to join yelp.

It's a very good place and it's so close to me so I'll be back again and again

Food was good, but small portions for the price. All sides were a la carte. Space was nice but very sterile in my opinion. I felt like the place did nothing to separate itself from the rest of the great dining options in the city. Service was quite slow. Our cocktails did not come out until after our starters-what!? Noble American Cookery did not impress.

We've been here twice now - once for restaurant week and once for a regular dinner. I think it's a tad pricey ($30 entree) for what they're offering, but a solid new american meal. Interesting seasonal options like elk... and decent service. As a fan of stylish seating (and who isn't??), I like the eames-esque molded plywood chairs.

One star for me, since I failed to realise restaurant week last more than one week.
Noble has a lot of good ideas, and seems to have the desire to make them work, but execution is the most important part.
Restaurant Week menu was underwhelming, leaving both my dinning partner and I to the pork chops.
I enjoy the whole organic food deal. I fully support it at a restaurant because cooking organic meat at home, can be tricky.
Just because Wilbur is not a juicer, doesn't mean he should be tough and marbled with unchewable fat. If the chef notices that Porky is a little tough, then under cooking him to make him more tender is not a good choice. The chef has got to take responsibility for making sure a poor quality piece of oinker does not leave his kitchen, and reach my plate. Swine! My dinning partner's Squealer looked much better, and she enjoyed hers more, it certainly wasn't red at the bone.
There were alot of positives at Noble, bartenders were great. The Blue foot salad was fresh and a good start, but my experience can be sum ed up as Babe III Drug free and I'll prepared. I cant see myself breaking open my piggy bank to go back.

Best Veggie Burger I've ever had. I'm not a vegetarian. Unbelievable Fried Squid Salad. Pretty expensive, but worth it. Great beer list. A little to Metro for my tastes, but whatever, whenever find myself in that neighborhood looking for a place to eat and grab a drink, I'm going there.
p.s. if you want the Veggie Burger you have to ask to see a bar menu.

Three of us went here for an early dinner one Monday night when we were in Philly for business.  It was a good choice.  The room is quite up-to-date.  Service efficient.  The food was local and fresh and, while no one went gaga over what they ordered, everyone enjoyed it.

But I have one question.  Why did they have the same jazz song playing over and over again the entire time we were there?  SONG, not album.  It must have repeated several dozen times.  As you might imagine, this quickly became annoying.

A refreshing breeze just blew through 20th and Sansom, and its name 'tis Noble.  In the former digs of Cibucan (loved that place), then an Italian restaurant I never got the chance to frequent, Noble has taken up residence in the most gorgeous and delicious manner possible.

Step inside and you'll know what I mean. Muted shades, subtle pieces of art on the walls and wood, wood, wood everywhere - it's airy, it's light, it's effortless Zen. It's coastal Washington State meets concrete inner city.  I can't forget to mention the bar outfitted with a huge slab of shiny wood that seems totally inviting with its generous helping of stools and the mighty friendly and cool bartenders in green checkered shirts, ties and sleeve garters. (I know, sleeve garters! Love the throwback)  Also love the indoor, outdoor table that frames the front part of the restaurant and opens onto the street.

I know I keep tripping on service in my reviews, but I truly believe it can make or break  the experience. Everyone was so damn nice at Noble and not fake Stephen-Starr nice either -  I really enjoyed our server, she was quirky, uber informed (i.e. full of fun little facts like the wine I was drinking was from the first entirely solar-powered vineyard to what dish truly represented what the chef's signature style was), insightful and attentive without being intrusive.

The pièce de resistance for Noble, of course, and what won me over, was the food.  Each course precisely executed and beautifully presented.  Started with the scallops (I know, kind of a boring choice, when you've got more exciting options on the menu but I was sharing it with my DOH who's got  less than an adventurous palate) then moved on to the Black Sable (a fish, whose consistency and taste is very similar to seabass) and sweet jesus, I almost convulsed with delight.

The temperature was perfect, the accoutrements were spot on.  My dining companion had Free-range veal (and he dutifully remarked "Isn't that an oxymoron?") that was yummy but not as tender as he had hoped. (I'm blaming it on the free-ranging)  Ended the meal with a trio of sorbet (delectable lemon-thyme, grapefruit and watermelon) and they were unexpectedly coupled with fresh from the oven little sugar cookies.

Ingredients were fresh, everything was so thoughtfully and lovingly prepared, that much was evident.  All this and the lovely ambiance did come at a price though - so with drinks (wine for me, beer for him, + after-dinner spirits), dinner bill for two came up to $130.

Sure it's not an every week thing, but for a treat it's well worth your dime. I can't wait to go back and explore the rest of the menu - At the very least, I'll return as soon as I can to partake in the bar menu (yes, they do offer burgers!) and debate with the barmen on the benefits of sleeve garters.

I went here on a Saturday night for an anniversary dinner with my husband and thought it was great. It's definitely pricey, but otherwise the vibe is relatively casual. (In other words, I didn't feel out of place wearing nice jeans and flat sandals). The renovated space that it's in is really lovely, too.

The food was really excellent. I second the recommendation of the fried squid salad. The beet salad was good but nothing too exciting. My husband had the striped bass and I had the chicken, and we were both very happy with them (and with the sides that came with them). They also serve an unusual, slightly-sweet butter with bread during the meal that I thought was outstanding.

A great place! I wish Yelp would let me give it 4.5 stars. I might take my parents here next time we have something to celebrate...

the girls and I went to Noble American Cookery tonight for restaurant week.  it was out second restaurant week and I must admit I wasn't expecting that much.  I'd been very excited about supporting a restaurant with a commitment to local and organic foods but the slightly lackluster reviews had me thinking I'd get a good meal but maybe not a great one.
we'll start with first impressions.  the ambience is really great, with lots of wood in different colors.  the upstairs has some amazing skylights and with the whitewashed brick walls it was very open and airy.  It was also not super loud which is very important to me.
Starting with the booze: we'd heard great things about the cocktails here and agreed to split a pitcher of the Philadelphia Fish house bunch.  My dears, it was a boozy delight.  We all very much enjoyed it.
Also enjoyable: the bread.  Specifically the rosemary bread.  There were three choices, a pan rustique, an olive bread, and the rosemary.  I preferred the rosemary, particularly with the delicious honey butter that was served alongside.
The appetizers were kabocha pumpkin and bluefoot mushroom, watermelon, tomato, and crab fritter, and a cured sable salad.  The cured sable was lovely, salty and smooth and my favorite of the night.  The tomato salad with crab fritter was another particularly good choice.  The fritter was of a generous size and tasted of crab, not bread flour or bread crumbs like so many crab dishes.
For the main course, I had the roasted chicken with squash.  The chicken was moist and perfectly roasted.  I didn't like the squash casserole so much but I also don't like summer squash that much so no surprise.  The fish dish that my friends got was good as well.  Points to the kitchen for being flexible about sides (switching in for us the sides from the pork dish on to the fish dish) particularly since it was restaurant week.
For dessert there was strawberry shortcake and peanut butter chocolate cake.  Both were delicious.  The strawberry shortcake was my favorite for the weekend, but I wasn't feeling chocolate-y.
Portions were generous and a good value for the money, again, impressive for restaurant week.
Why no 5th star after all my positive things?  Service was very friendly and knowledgeable but a little bit inconsistent.  Definitely worth a second try though.  I'll be going back for the punch alone!

I went here with my girl, her brother and his fiance for his birthday.  When we go out, we order a bunch of different things and pass them around the table.  So, I had a chance to try a little of everything...

Drinks wise, I had the Vesper (of Bond fame), a Two Brothers Country Ale, and a Ti Jean.  The Vesper was delicious and probably would have drank them all night, but being $12 and straight liquor, it would have made for a rough night.  The country ale was perfect for dinner; a great saison that paired well with food.  The Ti Jean (rye whiskey, lemon, ginger beer, & mint) was alright.  I think I would have preferred more rye and ginger and less lemon.

*The table ordered a bottle of red from Baja Mexico that they were very happy with, but I'm, honestly, more of a beer guy, so I'll refrain from comment.

For appetizers we ordered: sardines, sweetbreads, duck confit, fois gras, and asparagus.  It was my first time having sweetbreads and honestly they were pretty tasty, but a lil odd.  So in order I'd probably say... sweetbreads, asparagus, fois gras, duck confit, and sardines.

For entrees we ordered: black sable, chicken, duck, and the veal.  It's going to sound a bit odd, honestly... but order the chicken, seriously.  I know, I know... who goes to a nice place and orders the chicken, but do it and you won't be disappointed.  If you don't believe me, order the black sable or duck, they were both very good.  But the consensus at the table was chicken, then in a very close second the black sable, then duck and then veal.  The veal wasn't bad, but the others were just better.

For dessert we got: the 3 cheese plate, the lemon cream, the chocolate tart and the carrot cake.  My order would be lemon cream, cheese plate, the chocolate tart, and the carrot cake.  The lemon cream was like a lemon marangue but with a more cake like texture.  It was really good.  The carrot cake was interesting because, to me, it tasted more like a ginger cookie, than carrot cake.

The cheese plate... One of the cheeses was like brie but with a lil blue mixed in, so it was creamy, and had a lil bite of blue, but not overwhelming.  Very good.  The second cheese was a hard cheese like Parmigiano-Reggiano, but had some more bite and a lil funk.  It was very popular at our table, but our waitress said she's had mixed feelings from others.  The last cheese was good, but felt boring compared to the other two, since it was milder.

Another note about dessert.  A perfectly acceptable dessert would be to leave Noble and walk a half a block to Caprogiro for gelato, in my humble opinion.  Not that Noble is bad, but Caprogiro is Caprogiro...

Besides food... The service was awesome.  We had a waitress that really knew her stuff.  She was able to provide recommendations across the whole menu.  The atmosphere was also really cool.

I went to Noble on Saturday night with the extended family and had amazing cocktails and a good meal in a great-looking new restaurant that isn't quite living up to its potential.

Pros
-Excellent cocktails - my wife, brother-in-law and I ordered different drinks from the specialty cocktail list and found them to be uniformly great. Each one was a unique, well-thought-out drink with the right blend of fresh ingredients, good booze and cold ice. Kind of like 'new classics.'
-Competent Cooking (that could be great) - a relatively new restaurant we found the core of the cooking to be quite good. Salads were crisp and fresh, main entrees perfectly cooked to order.
-The Ribeye, for around $30 was a lot of beautiful beef for a relative bargain compared to steakhouses, and was one of the best steaks I've had at a restaurant bar none. It was definitely the best main dish on the table, even besting the highly-touted braised short-ribs for entree-envy.
-Great Looking and Sounding Space -very good atmosphere, sky-lights revealing the rooftop herb garden, and noise-levels were energizing without damping-out the conversation at our own table.

Cons
-Menu is pretty limited in scope, most of the fish dishes were fungible,  focusing on a flaky white fish (seabass, halibut, sable, trout), while the poultry (duck and chicken) and beef dishes were unoriginal riffs on each other.
-Somewhat true to the critique by the Inquirer, I felt some dishes were burdened by over-complication. The Sardine appetizer came with a dollop of super-strong mustard, which, if taken with the sardine overwhelmed the strong flavor of the fish (which is why you order sardines, right?). Second, the shrimp tostada was covered in some kind of sour cream sauce, which changes the experience. I think it would have been better just al fresco.
-Pass on the rice pudding side dish.

Minor Quibbles
-I can appreciate a unique take on some desserts, but there's no reason to mess with carrot cake the way Noble did. It should be moist and spongy cake with cream-cheese frosting aplenty - not the bran-muffin-esque thing we got on Saturday night.
-Contrary to our waiter's assurance, the French Press, while serving excellent coffee, is not big enough for two people to split and have a full cup each.

I've been to Noble twice and I'm hooked. It's a beautiful place and my new favorite bar. The staff is first rate.

The wine list is American only. That might seem limiting but the choices I've had so far have been excellent. There also seem to be some good beer choices and unusual cocktails with fresh ingredients.

You can say the same thing about the food. Veal sweetbreads, foie gras and duck confit were just short of Le Bec Fin. Also had a very nice gooseberry bread pudding.

I just touched the menu. There are a lot of interesting dishes. Some fish I've  never heard of. Alaskan Sable fish?

Since everything I've had has been good, I'll be going back to try more.

My wife and I went to Noble for the first time a couple weeks ago and it lived up to all our expectations. We arrived around 7:30pm on a Saturday with no reservation and had no problem getting a seat. I think by 8pm it was filling up very quickly. The decor and vibe of the place is very relaxed and hip. Our server was excellent, great with recommendations and pairings.

We started off by sharing the white asparagus with a hardboiled/fried egg which you crack open to let the yolk go over the asparagus. It was fantastic.

I had the braised short ribs, and my wife had the sable fish. Both great. We each had a specialty drink as well, which I'd heard the bar portion of the restaurant is known for. As said above...did not disappoint! The blood&sand drink was so good, and I would never have mixed scotch before.

We'll definitely be back, probably to try the bar menu since it's a bit cheaper, but for a solid meal this place was aces.

i mean, how can you write a bad review of a place named noble?  it just seems so wrong.

i was so excited about this place.  it looks beautiful, rustically simple but classically upscale.  i should dine here after a day of sailing, and wearing j crew clothing.  can i also bring along a boyfriend who goes by the name "chip"?

there's nothing *wrong* with the place.  the servers are attentive (i totally want one of those plaid shirts, way cute).  they've got a decent all-american wine list, coupled with some interesting (and decent) cocktails.  the food is all organic-y and nice...but nothing that i'm blown away by.  and for this type of price point, i can think of a few restaurants around town that totally beat it.

just a bit short of my expectations.  alas, alas.

My wife and I went last night for dinner with her parents and the food was amazing.  Everything was very fresh and well prepared.  I had the sardine app and the braised short rib - which was unique in that is was melt in your mouth tender while also having a wonderful textured crust that was very flavorful.

As others have noted the interior space and design is great.  Very relaxing and the perfect place for a great dinner or a drink, as the bar downstairs looked busy as we left at 9pm.

We will be back for sure.

So I went to this "new hot spot" for dinner, despite the fact that I was really, really nervous about the food because on the website, there's a picture that looks like turd on a plate with some fancy greens.  Oh, and another one that looks like a pool of bile and maybe seafood(?), because apparently the chef uses that obnoxious "foam" stuff...

Anyway, as per suggestions from others who had dined there and the waitress, I ordered the chicken, and it was really good.  My friend ordered the duck, and it was just okay.  I was expecting to be blown away by the food but left there feeling like I had just eaten at another typical American-fusion restaurant (and perhaps that's the vibe they're going for, hence the name...?).

We skipped dessert and ordered some drinks instead.  Seems like Noble is trying to hop aboard the "cocktail train" (ala Chick's, Southwark and Apothecary) based on the "creative cocktail" menu.  Eh, nice try?  I would NOT head to Noble for a cocktail (stick with the aforementioned), rather, try something off the wine list which is primarily domestic but not lacking variety.

The space is really neat.  Great sky-light and everything flows nicely.  Nothing too outstanding about the decor, but sometimes less is more.

So why the two stars?  Well, based on all the fanfare surrounding the opening of this place and the cast of characters involved (Bruno Pouge! Steve Cameron!) I was expecting to be rocked off my chair. But in reality, it was just another pretty good meal at a new restaurant in town, nothing more, nothing less.

1-star for great space + 1-star for flavor = 2 stars.

But that's about all this place is gonna get.

The service was pretty blah - we had to ask for water much after we sat down, as did the table next to us.

As mentioned above, the flavors of everything were great - it cannot be denied.  But let me be honest -- the portion size was completely stupid and ridiculous.  If this place had marketed itself as a 'small plates' venue, then fine.  But it didn't -- and so it was a disappointment.  $26 for a fish entree in which the fish portion could have passed as an appetizer in another restaurant.

In sum, 2 salads + 2 fish entrees for $90 was completely unacceptable.

I had high hopes going there to begin with, but after having been, I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Interesting selection of menu; a newly opened restaurant.  Can't wait to see how the food and the restaurant evolves.
