Although this place is quite far from the city center, it is definitely not boring.
Being right next to Van Ness and Polk street means there is quite a bit going on. Then again it's still a super quiet place at night. My dad and I took my cousin's little boy out for a walk and while I took in the Saturday Morning Bustle (nonexistent here in the PNW) Cole got to see two ambulances, a firetruck, and some constructions tractors. See, fun for everyone! I wanted to try out the nearby Nick's Taco-somethingorother, but I was outvoted by 3 suburbanites wanting to eat at... drum roll... Subway. At least it was close...
The rooms were pretty nice. It was like a suite, but the living room also had a queen sized bed. Very comfy, and a nice respite from plants (as they had causing endless allergies)
If you're a walker like me, it's not that far from the bars.

the place was clean and decent. i like the fact we could walk to all 3 cable car routes. the motel is centrally located . the cons are : unless you like junk food dont consider the continental breakfast a deal. donuts, packaged sweet rolls, coffee and hot chocolate.oh, they did have apples and bananas.all in all i liked the place.FREE PARKING IS A PLUS.

It was pretty nice staying there as far as accessibility to everywhere in the city. Cute little place.
The older couple who run this place are just lovely lovely people. They have fresh juice and hot chocolate service in the morning.
The only thing about this place is that the room is soooooooooooo small. You basically just have the bed in the middle and that's it. I didn't like the bathroom too much. and the mini bar/refrigerator is in the bathroom, which was awkward.
For the price (around $55 a night) can't complain too much about the space I guess. It is very clean!

This place is awesome. It's located right in the Russian Hill/Nob Hill area, and is about 1 mile away from Fisherman's Wharf/Ghiradelli Square to the north and 1 mile away from Chinatown. There's also a cable car stop just two blocks away for easy transportation to a lot of the touristy areas. Right near the place are a bunch of restaurants, bars, grocery stores, and shops as well.
Though I give it 5 stars, it's not a fancy shmancy place. It's a small motel, but one with a lot of charm. The manager there on call is the sweetest woman and very helpful with directions and general knowledge about the city. There's also free wireless internet and most importantly free parking located right under the rooms. The only catch with the parking is that spaces are limited and we felt that it was sort of iffy if we moved the car in the evening because the lot seemed to be full in the evenings.
Our room was really clean and quiet, though we did have some problems with the tv. For $100/night including parking, this was quite a steal and we were really pleased with it. Not as stylish as some of the boutique hotels but a lot more charming than the Holiday Inn.

This place is perfect for anyone from outside SF looking for a place to stay for a night out. The reality for me was that I was only going to be in the place for 8 hours max since we were all planning a big night out. There's no reason to pay for a four star hotel when a place like this exists, it's arguably better located for nights out anyway.
There was free wifi, comfortable rooms and the place was super clean. I now live five blocks away so don't have a need for it anymore but when I was living in Seattle I'd always look for this place when planning weekend SF trips.
Great job Ed P. for finding this place.

We have been staying here for so many years I have lost count. It changes a bit over the years but never for the negative. The folks who run the place are just the nicest, most helpful people around and they maintain this motel to perfection. The location too is very good for anything one might want to do in S.F.. Parking can not be beat. The rooms are spacious for the most part there are a couple small ones, but for a single this is not bad. Of course the price of a stay has increased quite a bit since I first started going here, but that is life.

Yes it's sure a Hidden Treasure. I lived in SF for 5 years and never new it was right under my nose. I stayed at their other property The Castel Inn and enjoyed that also. FREE parking is a Huge Plus. Just take a look at http://tripadvisor.com and read all the comments about this place.

This place is a basic motel, not the RItz, but hopefully you don't come to SF to spend your vacation in the hotel room. It's around $100/night with parking! Crazy. You're 2 blocks from Cable Car, 1/2 block from Polk (with restaurants, shops, etc.) The owners are kind and helpful and the rooms are quiet and spotless. I stayed here before moving to SF and it is now where I send out-of-towners when I run out of room.
