This place is so wrong!  I mean that literally.  They can't get anything right.

I've had bad luck with the Noah's locations in the East Bay where I live, because half the time they get the order wrong.  So even though this Noah's is very close to where I work, I'd always go to Posh around the corner instead.  But then I got these coupons for $2 off a sandwich, and 25% off, and I thought maybe a Noah's in the financial district would be better than the ones next to UC Berkeley and Lake Merritt.  So I tried out my coupons.

The first day, I ordered the veggie wrap.  They have a little form they fill out with your order, and there's a letter code for each vegetable that's included on the sandwiches.  They ask if you want all of them.  I said all except capers.  She crossed out capers.  I get the sandwich back to the office, take a bite, and it's just crawling with capers, in addition to the other vegetables.  Hmm.  Guess this Noah's can't get it right either.

But I am an open-minded person, or like to think so anyway, so I go back the next day and get the Veg-Out sandwich.  They ask the same question.  This time I decide to say what I do want, instead of what I don't want -- maybe that will help.  I say I want lettuce, tomato, cucumbers, and sprouts.  No onions or capers.  She marks the form.  I get the sandwich back to the office.  No sprouts.  Geez!  Why do they bother with this little form when clearly no one looks at it?  At Posh, they don't write anything down and they always always get my order correct.  What's wrong with Noah's????

So I don't think I'll go back.  The only good thing about Noah's is that the sandwich comes with a side like potato salad or fruit salad.  It was nice to have a little fruit on the side, and while it wasn't great quality, it was decent.  Supposedly your sandwich also comes with a pickle, but I didn't get a pickle with my sandwich either day.  I guess I'll give 2 stars instead of one, because the vegetables and bagel were fresh at least, and they didn't get the order as wrong as the Berkeley one (meat instead of veggie, so I couldn't eat it!)

BAGEL ONLY REVIEW - noah's is probably my least favorite bagel in sf, they are bready, do not have a proper shell crispness, and are over toasted and under warmed, the bagels taste over sweetened and the cream cheese too whipped, 90% of the time my bagel is badly cut and divided. boo.

5 stars? Sure.
They make me happy every morning since I'm always grumpy coming into work. A bagel with cream cheese (cc) on it and I'm not grumpy at all.

4 stars? Sure.
They hand me an ever-so-tasty bagel with cc on it, but sometimes there's not enough cc on it or too much cc on it. Enough to feed 5 starving children.

3 stars? Sure.
Service ranges depending on how busy they are. The busier they are, the more they F up. The slower they are, the more attention you get aka you feel like a princess/prince.

2 stars? Sure.
Every morning I always ask for some sort of bagel, sliced, not toasted and no cc. I take it to the office to toast it and spread my tub of Noah's cc on it. It saves money to just buy a bagel and buy your own tub of cc since the tub will last about 2 weeks. Anyway, they're always experts at slicing but some reason...this morning they sliced it ever so awkwardly.
See for yourself: http://www.yelp.com/bi...
WHY NOAHS, WHY???????????

1 star...? Sure.
For some reason this Noah's seems to be a pigeon haven. One time I walked in here and there was a pigeon walking freely on the table tops where customers sit. This one old man was enjoying his bagel, turned to his right and flipped out because a pigeon was staring right back at him. The pigeon started fluttering his wings and starting creating a scene but one of the workers swiftly came over, reached out both his hands, grabbed the pigeon, and tossed the flying rat outside. I HOPE THE WORKER WASHED...SCRUBBED HIS HANDS. THANK GOODNESS HE WASN'T THE ONE HELPING ME. But this didn't stop me from getting my morning bagel...haha. Go figure.

I love Noahs.
I hate Noahs.
I love Noahs.
I hate Noahs.
This is why they get 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 star ratings. Averaging them gives them 3 stars but for their poor slicing job this morning, 2 stars it is.

5 Bagel & Cream Cheese Recommendations:
(Make sure to get it TOASTED!)
1. Everything Bagel & Sun Dried Tomato Cream Cheese (my fav.)
2. Cinnamon Sugar Bagel & Plain Cream Cheese
3. Asiago Bagel & Honey Walnut Cream Cheese (bf's pick)
4. Cracked Peppercorn Bagel & Onion/Chive Cream Cheese
5. Sesame Bagel & Salmon Cream Cheese

Seriously now.. how complicated is it to spread the right amount of cream cheese on a bagel?? It certainly doesn't take a rocket scientist.. SO why o why do they spread it on like butter.. hardly anything! Then when you get back to the office you're basically eating a bagel with no cream cheese..

Come on people!

I came here for lunch today.  They have an array of different sandwiches but I wanted a asiago bagel toasted with cream cheese (my reg order.)

It took them like 10 minutes to make my bagel while all these people who ordered these complicated sandwiches got theirs before me.  WTF!

It won't stop me from going to Noah's, maybe I'll just go to another location.

Noah's has begun morphing into Starbucks and all those fancy coffee stores!  I stopped by today and found out that they now make their version of the frappicino.

I ordered the Strawberry blended.  Yummy!  Tastes much better than Starbuck's version (which was sickly sweet).  It was also cheap to boot (around $3+ for a grande sized version).

This is the only Noah's I've been to that offered the drinks.

Oy vey!! ...and that's as close to anything New York or Jewish as you'll find at this Noah's. Don't go here!! The first hint something is wrong is the awful smell that assaults your senses when you walk in----some sort of disinfenctant odor over a smell of rotten garbage. Ugh!

We ordered 2 corned beef sandwiches on rye toast with mustard. We got rye toast with mustard & a couple of paper-thin slices of meat that was NOT corned beef and was placed only in the center, so when it was sliced in 1/2, it looked like there actually was some meat inside. The mustard was yellow mustard, which no self-respecting NY deli would consider using.

The potato salad was nasty -- mayo with a few pieces of potato thrown in.

In an earlier review someone said they didn't get the promised pickle with their sandwich. We didn't either, so we went back inside & asked for it & it took them a loooooong time to find the pickles, which tells you that they rarely give them, though it says on the menu that they come with the sandwiches.

Each sandwich cost a ridiculous $7.29 -- Who are they kidding?!?!

One note, there was a time when Noah actually owned Noah's & it was a very good small chain of kosher-style food, but those days are long gone. Oh, Noah, where have you gone?

On Thursdays, my workplace provides either powdered sugar and glazed donuts, or Asiago cheese and onion donuts.

I guess technically those last two are bagels, but since they come from Noah's, I prefer to think of them as Asiago cheese and onion donuts.  I like them better that way.  Otherwise, I would have to give them only two stars.

What are you doing?

This is NOT a bagel. This is not a bagel. This is so NOT a bagel! Stop. Stop. Stop. No. Don't.  House of Bagels, Bagelry, even friggin Star Bagels and Posh are better than this.  The coffee is disgusting and isn't changed as it is supposed to be, and has the most terrible proportions (2 tablespoons coffee for 10 cups, it seems) that it's one of the weakest corporate cups in the city.

Rice crispy treats not bad.

Horrible, they can never get your order right.

Situation #1: Ordered a tuna sandwich, received a veggie sandwich (no tuna inside). Asked why there was no tuna, Noah's employee said "You ordered turkey."  Alright, so if ordered turkey, where's the turkey then?  They made another sandwich but were very rude about it.

Situation #2: Completely switched bagels with requested shmears. Ordered lox with sourdough and a Sesame with garlic/herb. Received a Sourdough with garlic/herb and a sesame with lox.

Situation #3: Ordered a sesame with garlic/herb, received nothing. (After paying, waited for my bagel 10 minutes. Eventually asked, "where's my order". They never made it. They finally did make it and apologized with a chocolate chip cookie. Thanks anyway. I'm allergic to chocolate.

+1* Close to my office
+1* They usually have garlic bagels

-1* Tomatoes are never ripe- so even though I order and pay for them, I can't eat them.
-1* They don't use enough cream cheese. My bagel this morning only had half of one half covered.
-1* The coffee is always so hot I can't drink it for 30 minutes or so.

Noah's NEW YORK Bagels.

Unfortunately, I guess anyone can call anything "New York" this or that if they want to, without it having to be verified by Mr. Bloomberg or the City Council.

When I first moved here from New York, someone at my office said "You're from New York?  Oh!  You must love Noah's!"  I had never heard of it.  When I went to check it out it was readily apparent that Noah's is a chain.  Being a New Yorker, I know chains don't know shit about bagels.  And, Noah's is no exception.  How can they be New York bagels when they don't even have a location in New York?

CIRCULAR WHITE BREAD IS NOT A BAGEL!!!!!

These are not bagels. They are dry bagel-shaped bread. They aren't even airport-quality bagels. Where is the chewy crust from the boil-then-bake process? Where is the liberal application of cream cheese (it's not butter, people - I still want to be able to see it when I'm eating it!)? Why did you give my boyfriend a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich with NO EGG? You are dead to me. Thrilled to discover Posh Bagel in 4 Embarcadero Center though - THEY know what a bagel is.

So it's a chain. So the service usually kinda sucks. Well, I don't care, I like this place. The bagels are always fresh, I like the coffee, I love the egg-mits, the soup deal at lunch is decent, and there is always that opera guy singing outside. I dig it all.

Update: I couldn't resist the pictures of the paninis on the wall any longer so, being a great lover of the tuna melt, I reluctantly parted with my eight dollars. Eight dollars is quite a lot, but the panini was pretty large. In fact, so large I felt kind of sick afterwards. I wish they offered half sandwiches, but they don't.
Anyway, it was so good I managed to put the whole huge thing away. The tuna salad was tasty, lots of emphasis on the dill. The bread was fine and the sandwich well-toasted so that all the cheese was melted. With the sandwich came an entire fat warty crunchy delicious pickle. I'd stay away from the coleslaw, it had wasabi or some shit in it and Noah's Bagels really should leave wasabi to the experts.

Ok, we all can agree Noah's has some good bagels--especially since it is one of the Illuminati fast food chains.  Yet, the rest of the food served there, is a little too ambitious for the sake of their customers, i.e. ME!

R2 and I decide to grab a quick bite during lunch time knowing that they serve sandwiches.  Well, not just sandwiches, PANINI'S.  The very thought of such a lunch delicacy rumbles my stomach and groin into pure unadulterated ecstasy.  However, these grandiose thoughts quickly crumbled as soon as my, roadkill for a panini was served.

I know panini's are compressed by a grill, but this was blasphemy of sandwich grilling arts.  My panini looked like bread stuffed with a live chicken flattened over by a cement roller truck, my word.  I could of sworn I heard my sandwich chirp and squawk a couple of times as I ate.

Friday Morning Fresh Air: Fridays now, as a release and a celebration, I get off the N-Judah at Embie and Folsom and walk up the rest of El Road to the Ferry Building and hang a left, where I get bagels for the office. The fresh air does me good, I get to spend time with Cupid's Span and the nickel-shine Bay Bridge, and I get to try new shmears. Last week was sun-dried tomato and basil and garden veggie, the week before was salmon (fave fish) and onion and chive. I love it when I can make the waitperson smile when they ask the question, "What flavors of bagels do you want?"--"Surprise me." And so they do. Then it's up Market with the box o' bagels and shmear (someday I'll try lox, honest) and then up Bush for my a.m. workout.

Best combo of shmear and bagel? Asiago and salmon. Enjoy...

Perfect spot for a fast and easy breakfast. And mere feet from the Hyatt where I like to enjoy my stay in SF. I completely miss warming up at the bar by the front window with a toasty bagel and broccoli cheddar soup on a cold SF morning watching the city come alive.

while i normally would give this a 3 . . . the lines here are notoriously long during the 8-10am timeframe.  they have one person taking orders, two people making the orders, and one person as cashier.

while the line is out the door (over ten people long . . . ).

but i still come here b/c it's across the street from my office.  location is prime, thus i torture myself over and over waiting in that line.

noah's is another place that reminds me of they college days... ah... sweet memories.

anyway now i visit noah's every other friday morning to pick up a box special for the office. the lines are long. the bagels go fast. but they are so fresh and still warm. sometimes they f' up so instead of giving me my baker's dozen i get eleven bagels. and yeah, it's a pain in the ass but i don't have time to go back and yell at them. i just suck it up (it's not my money anyway).

service there is... eh. nothing special. they operate like an assembly line. but what should you expect from these franchises right?

i wish this one was paired with a peet's coffee.

personal fave: mouth-watering egg & spinach breakfast panini (served all-day)

I used to live in NJ, where a good bagel was really not hard to find. I sure miss a good bagel. Here is where I go when I want something that resembles a bagel but really is just a delivery system for the Jalapeno Cream Cheese. What wicked gastronome devised so tantalizing a schmeer as this? At once spicy and yet greasy with a hint of cheese. Like a Jalapeno popper, but not hot...

Service is always suffice - sometimes friendlier than others - but never actually rude. Easy & quick in & out for the morning bagel. Love that they have a fresh & vast  selection. Not so much into the egg mitts. Just too heavy and eggs are pretty meager & dull for the $$. I'd rather spend it on their well-sized fruit & yogurt bowl.  Dont forget to get the granola that comes with it for that extra texture.

these faux new york jews have some freakin' nerve.  first of all, no self respecting Heb would even SAY ciabatta, let alone stuff jalapenos, sundried tomatoes and cheddar in it and then offer a "SHMEAR" to go with it...

They can't even get granola right.  My company brought in "blood bagels" this morning to thank us for all our help lately, i moved towards the fruit and granola and it tasted like crunchy dentyne.

the lox shmear used to be good.  now it's just pink salty fluff-cheese.  if that's your idea of a good time, go for it.  I will, instead, sit on my high horse still pining for my long, lost NY bagels.

sigh.

Okay.. so I haven't exactly been to too many Noah's Bagels to compare like I do to Subway, but my first experience here today was pleasant. I was greeted by both of the staff that were working up front when I walked in. I didn't bring my glasses, so of course I was too blind to read the menu up top. So I just asked, "whats good?" and this super cool guy that worked there gave me his suggestion. I went along with his recommendation and had the open face bagel w/ turkey, tomato and melted swiss on top. It also came w/ a salad and once again I asked for his recommendation, so we both decided on the potato salad. Right when I turned around, my order was ready! And no, it wasn't pre-made. The guy had asked someone inside the kitchen to come out and make it after I ordered. I was going to eat it there, but plans had changed last minute, so I went up to the guys and asked for a bag to take to go. He asked for my plate and offered to help me pack it up. So from the moment I walked in to the moment I left, my experience was very pleasant. As for the bagel, it was pretty good. I'm usually just a plain bagel & cream cheese or w/ salmon kind of girl.. but I had no complaints about this bagel. It was crunchy and crispy, but not hard. There were MOUNDS of turkey on top of it, 2 big slices of tomatoes which were very much edible and finally coated w/ melted cheese on top. The potato salad was good as well and all of that cost about $7.57? I mean, it isn't exactly cheap for a bagel and small salad, but it isn't bad either. I will be back!

PIGEONS BEHIND THE COUNTER.

so i'm waiting in line to grab a bagel on my way into work this morning (noah's on market, right up at embarcadero - across from One Market) and notice that right behind the counter, where the employees are cutting, toasting, and shmearing the bagels - there is a pigeon walking around by their feet eating crumbs off the floor. i'm shocked, but at first i assume it must have just come in and they didn't notice it. (it was a gross looking pigeon too - like one of the sick ones with the matted oily feathers and a club foot.).

but then i see two of the employees glance at it, smirk and murmer something to each other, then grab a spray bottle and squirt the pigeon with a few streams of water. that got the pigeon to walk a few feet away for a few seconds, still behind the counter, mind you - before coming right back and continuing to eat more food off the prep-area floor.

i should have walked out right then, but i saw that the store manager ("staff leader", actually) was busy ringing people up, so i thought my best chance to get a 1-on-1 conversation with her to report this would be by waiting my turn to check out. when i get up to the register i ask her "do you know there's a pigeon behind the counter over there?"  she kind of glances down the line, shrugs, and says something to the effect of "yeah, they just walk right in off the street" as if there's nothing they can do to get a PIGEON out of their KITCHEN. i point out that her employees are just squirting it with water, like a game, and that the entire line of 15 customers waiting to order have to stand there and watch the whole thing happening. she mumbled something else dismissive, handed me my change as quickly as she could (reaching around to the other side of the register to hand it to me so i'd keep moving), and instantly grabbed the next customer's slip to get started ringing them up. she was clearly done with me. and to be clear - the backup was for ordering bagels, i wasn't holding things up by talking to her down at the register end of things - she just wanted to blow me off as quickly as possible.

i'm not sure why i opted to pay for this thing. i certainly haven't eaten it, and wont' be. it's just sitting here on my desk as a disgusting reminder to make a yelp post and call the health department before i'm allowed to throw it in the trash. check, and check - now you're going in the trash!

i should have known to expect something like this. the staff at this location always seems so bored and lazy and disinterested that they even have to be there in the first place.

fortunately for me, there's a MUCH better noah's operation a few blocks away at the intersection of battery/bush/market - where the employees are always hustling, and the manager (a hardworking friendly guy who shaves his head bald) always has the entire place running ship-shape. so i can still get my toasted asiago - hold the pigeon.

so effing bitter. i wake up with a craving for some eggy sausagey goodness. no, i will not lower myself to going to mcdonald's (-3 star establishment) so i decide i'm going to try noah's. they look like they have some fresh bagels, theres a long line, its seemingly popular. sure. so i go in and order the turkey sausage and cheese egg mit. i dont know what the hell a mit is, but it seems tasty. my mouth is already drooling with anticipation of sausagey goodness. i wait in a hot and very crowded line, pay for my food, grab my sandwich, and make it up to my office. i unwrap my sandwich with the glee of a 5 yr old on christmas morning. what? whats this shit!??!?!? i see no sausage!!! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!! nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
yes, noah's had jipped me. they gave me an egg and cheese only egg mit :( but i dont have time to go back and yell at them since im already at work and the evil corporate overlords are already demanding documents. what do i do? i write noah's a nasty little email. that'll show em!

Pretty slow service, but not as bad as the Marina Noah's.  The worst part?  There was MOLD and gooey iciness on the inside of the creamer containers (I checked the skim, 2% and half and half).  I found these little surprises when I had to undo the top to see if there was milk in the container.   No fresh milk, but a lot of built-up nastiness from the previous dairy products!
