This is the best place in the world.  You'll see something you never noticed before, no matter how many times you visit.  It's also the kind of place you'd expect to find chainsaw-wielding maniacs, but so far I have not come across any.

Acres of bizarre art made out of found or recycled objects.  There are awesome photo ops here.  Some of the installations make an obvious statement, others make wonderful noises when the wind blows.  I could spend hours here, and do whenever I'm in the neighborhood.

I would have liked to have met Noah before he died.

I'd like to point out that even though the "Good for Kids" info currently reads "yes" for some reason, parents please note that practically every inch of the grounds has something a child could hurt themselves on or with.  It is also an outdoor art museum, not a playground.

Whoa, dude. wow. This is some of the most amazing found-object sculpture I've ever seen.
Bring your camera, water, and a four-wheel drive vehicle.

This place is heavenly. Incredible sculptures in the middle of the dessert. Not to be missed. We were the only ones there one afternoon. Bring water and a snack!

Absolutely amazing! The place is really rather tricky to find. The Foundation doesn't publicize the address or directions to the sculpture park, apparently in an effort to prevent vandalization, but they are supposed to give you the info if you leave them a voicemail. I never heard back from them, but eventually was pointed in the right direction after asking around town (you can ask the charming little library to flip through their little rolodex, it should be there.) Anyhow, this place is fantastic. Toilet castle! Dancing bear performance stage! Lunch tray slide! Rag-cloth sailing ship!

(Oh, so apparently High Desert Test Sites has directions somewhere on their website.)

A really great place to take photos!! I walked around with a friend for a good half hour and had plenty of privacy. Really neat sculptures to look at, some of them you can even walk inside.

I would recommend going during a cool month because there really was no shade. And watch out for the cactus!

    Directions from Highway 62-
At the West end of the town of Joshua Tree turn north at Sunburst. Make a right onto Two Mile Road and then short after a left onto Border. Stay on border for a while and then turn right on Aberdeen, then left on Center, then right on Blair. Drive approx. 1/4 mile.

Warning- some of it is dirt road and the signs are very hard to see!

This place was so cool! I had heard about it in advance, emailed the foundation and quickly received an email back with directions to the garden. I went on a February morning - my boyfriend and I were the only ones there. It's not like a normal museum where you can't look too closely or touch anything and there are guards watching you all the time. This is literally just random sculptures in the middle of the desert. You have to drive down a sand road to get there, and then you just park and walk around as you please. It's free. There were pamphlets out front which told a bit about the artist and the sculptures. The garden had lots of sculptures, it was bigger then i had imagined.  The art might not be up everybody's alley, it is all recycled objects (including such things as toilets and bowling balls) used in innovative ways, but no matter what your artistic tastes are, you will be in awe of the inventiveness and creativity of the artist. I loved having the freedom to walk around, take pictures, touch things or walk into buildings when appropriate and enjoy the art at my own pace.
