This place reminds of the good old days thrifting back in MD. The prices are cheap (by New York standards - everything is $10!). But at the same time, you have to wade through a lot of junk to find something stellar. Like a marching band drummer's jacket or a Bon Jovi shirt.
They have the best priced furs and leathers. But you have to go through a lot of dry rot and fishy smells before you can find one to call your own. A lot of their pieces are things you have to take home and tailor a bit, but that's fine with me. You get what you pay for.
The staff aren't the type to help dress you for a party, but why would you ask them to? It's not the place where you open your arms and go "fix me!"

No Relation is a great store selling a wide variety of second hand and vintage wear. I always forget it's there unless I pass by, and when I choose to stop in, I usually leave with one item. I recently picked up a 70s or 80s short sleeved button down which was in fantastic condition and cost very little. Of course, you have to go through a lot of crap to find the jewels, but isn't that the point on second hand shopping?
I love their selection of leather jackets, though none of them are for me. They also have quite a number of shoes and sneakers, but I'm always a bit leery about buying such things.
Overall, this place is great and definitely worth shopping even if it's just for fun. You'll surprise yourself by walking out with something cute and still have money in your wallet for dinner!
This is a pretty large store with a lot of different types of clothing. Everything is cheap and you can come out with lots of stuff and still have some money left.
The only thing I don't love about this store is the smell. After being inside for a while, it sorta got a little stuffy and I felt like I couldn't breath. but I toughened it out and searched for more stuff.

If you're seriously into vintage, but not into the fact that most NYC vintage shops have to pay their rent in chic 'hoods (READ: exorbitant prices for merch), you'll dig No Relation. I've been going for awhile, but I was floored the first time I walked in - vintage heaven for cheapie prices.
Most things, on average, run between $10-$15, although the things that cost more are worth more. I recently got a stunning black sequined vest for $19, an original t-shirt from Sam's Town casino in Vegas ($10), an awesome white leather studded strap-across bag ($10) and a beat-up brown leather London Fog backpack ($15) that looked like it belonged to my grandfather. And that was all in one trip.
Staff is cool and The Clash is usually blasting overhead (natch). All in all, an awesome store for vintage lovers.
some of my favorite dresses are ones my mom saved from when she was my age, but unfortunately, there are only about 3 of them that are still in acceptable form...i found dresses in here that look like they could have come right out of her closet, and for 15 bucks each, i buy them in bulk...also have seen so many things in here that i find in urban for 5 times the price..usually after ive already purchased and worn them tho:( most of the stuff ive bought requires a little doctoring (shortening heh) but if you go in with a little imagination and dont mind doing a little cutting and sewing, you can def. score some awesome stuff...

It's your typical thrift shop... Out of context, I would say give this place 2-3 stars, but because it's in Manhattan, it deserves more. They have a ton of really great t-shirts for under $10, jeans, bags, shoes for days!, etc. They don't really sell high-end goods like Tokio 7 or Amarcord or any of THOSE vintage shops... This is more of a thrift shop than a vintage store. But it's CHEAPCHEAPCHEAP and in this city, that means A LOT.

Back in the day when I thought being hipster was cool, and hanging with skater boys was exciting, I frequented thrift shops on a regular basis. Now that I work at a law office, I have to look professional and can't wear used clothing anymore. Besides, I got fed up with said skater boys and wannabe artists and don't really have anything in common with them anymore... But that's a completely different story.
For those of you lucky enough to wear converses and tight jeans to work (or, better yet, not have to work cause your parents pay your rent) this place is awesome. It's huge, and you can practically find anything here, whether you're into flannel, ruffled granny dresses, fur coats, or jean overalls. And their selection of boots and shoes is pretty darn fantastic. They lack a bit in their jewelry and glasses departments, and their staff is kind of snobby. But, honestly, this place is cheap, neat, huge, awesome.

For old-school style New York vintage shopping, this is one of the few places left. The prices aren't jacked like Amarcord or Metropolis, but it's not Salvation Army either. Sort of in the middle--like Screaming Mimi's but much lower prices and slightly lesser quality (you have to check for stains).
The $10 shoe section is to die for.

Eh.
Ok, I agree, this place is CHEAP. $10 for shirts, tops, dresses, skirts, whatever. They also have A LOT of things--racks upon racks for both sexes, with a lot of shoes in the back.
Buttttttt....
a lot of it is CRAP. I mean, really, what am I missing?
Yes, I want variety but I also want a good selection so I don't have to waste time going through racks of ugly clothes. I really went in looking for a bag--they all looked like they had been mauled. I found one top I liked but of course it was too small AND it just so happened, was more expensive than the rest of the stuff they were pawning off.
I feel that there is a large difference in stores that call themselves "vintage" versus "thrift." Vintage tend to be higher priced but their quality and selection is better. Thrift--you know you're going to have to sift through crap but the prices are better. No Relation goes against this.
Now, while they may be cheap, they still have items that are overpriced because they KNOW what will sell, what is in great condition, and how they can make more money. The rest of the suckers can buy things with stains on them.
I think I'm so bitter because this was my second time going in, and I keep telling myself, "there is such a large selection, there HAS to be something I'd like." No. Wrong.
Go here at least once, spend your time analyzing every thread and fiber, or go here if you're looking for clothes to wear to a dirty job or if you're just going to rip up the clothes anyway to make into something else.
Good luck!

I heard about this place from a friend who would sleep with the vintage purse she got here. Yeah, she loved it that much.
Most of the tshirts here look like your typical vintage tiki. But the bags...AH THE BAGS! I LOVE THE BAGS! No Relation Vintage probably has the largest selection of reasonably priced, leather bags in the East Village. Yes, some of them are slightly worn with wear...but they're only stains of love!
Wow, I sound slightly obsessed. But you would understand if you clicked through any vintage bag site like vintagebag.com and then checked your bank account balance only to sigh and say "ay me my poor student budget."
So imagine my surprise when I walked out of there with a $40 medium sized shoulder bag, completely guilt free as I passed the Washington Mutual on my way home.
The reason why I knocked off 2 stars? They're not very open to bargaining, even if the good is more than slightly worn and needs some repair. I actually wanted to get another bag as well (hey I believe in retail therapy) but I didn't as they wouldn't give me a discount when the clasp needed to be replaced. So...3 stars it is!

I love this store. It's got a great overall vibe, leading to a pleasant shopping experience. Nice tunes included.
They have a fantastic selection of comfy tee's, and even better shirts. I got a sweet striped collared shirt for $10. It's now one of my favorites.
This place is big and spacious.
Gotta love a vintage store that is easy to shop in. I can't stand places where I feel like I am in my great aunt's attic closet.
Makes it easier and less painful to dig through racks of crap looking for the one thing you never knew you wanted. Or always wanted but were too afraid to dig through piles of musty old cords.
There are dressing rooms with doors too.
And cheap.
I just got into vintage shopping and have been looking at places all over Manhattan and I must say this store and Housing Works stores are my faves. There are tons of dresses and t-shirts for women and a large selection of vests. My personal favorites were the cultural dresses that I saw... I saw a beautiful African dress for $25 and an sari for $20 now that's definitely something I can see myself buying. Also cool scarves for $5 but you really have to dig. I think I'll come by again.
This is the golden nugget of New York. We all want to know about prices and selection. here ya go. It has racks upon racks of vintage t-shirts. but I'm in it for the New Look dresses of the 50's and the sweet hippie princess stuff. Every dress is around $20. I got a gunne sax dress for 15 and a 50's circle skirt dress for $25. it's phenomenal with boots and shoes and tons of coats and men's stuff too. it won't look that good from the street but the good stuff is inside!!!
