Unless you get totally lost like Clark Griswald wandering in the Mojave desert, I doubt that you will ever find this place.
But somehow people do and if they are lucky enough to come across this hidden gem off of the main highway in Big Pine Key tucked away deep within the deer sanctuary that plague the locals they find themselves fortunate. The Key deer are little dog sized deer that are cute as a bug and only exist here on Big Pine in the Florida Keys. Seeing one or two as you meander through the neighborhoods, as we did, is a bonus. When you finally chance upon the roadside shack of a restaurant with accompanying motel rooms across the gravel paved parking lot, you are there.
Thousands upon thousands of dollar bills in all denominations and currencies line every square inch of the walls and hang from the ceilings like expensive bats. This sight alone is worth coming to this roadside dive.
The beer list includes a no name amber ale on tap which was refreshingly dark and crisp like a Texas bock.
The star tonight and every night apparently was the pizza. We ordered a pepperoni and mushroom which came piping hot with an incredible melting cheese atop a tangy sauce with spicy meaty pepperoni and fresh sliced mushrooms. This was one of those pies you couldn't wait to get to your second piece after one bite of you first! Nothing beats fresh hot pizza table side right out of the oven and this pizza was the second best meal of the weekend taking a backseat only to a lobster Benedict breakfast 10 hours before.
If you find yourself driving to Key West from the mainland and come across Big Pine Key about 30 before you get there, stop in for lunch and check this place out. This is definitely an original.
Totally worth the twists and turn required to find it.
Conch fritters are the best.
Good beer prices, fun to read all the dollar bills.
It pays to yelp! The four of us are killing an afternoon in the golden nugget our Dodge Charger rental. Heading up Highway 1 north from Key West the towns look the same. Some smaller with tackle shops, dive restaurants and bars with not too many cars in the lots, an ocean lapping up against the mangroves to our east, and the scores of old and decaying boats both on 1 wheeled trailers or moored to a final resting place a few feet from shore. Our drive takes us to Big Pine Key and I use the trusty iphone application for yelp for recommendations. At the top of the list with 41/2 stars is the No Name Pub. I then click on the "directions" and the GPS takes me down a dead end on a supposed route 21. Don't go that way. Key Deer are like pigeons here or should I say gulls. Drive slow, they are on the roadside and far too close to traffic. Bill asks a couple in the lot how their meal was and they exclaimed the best ever. So in we go, and we are taken aback by walls and ceilings covered in dollar bills with hand written messages. Literally thousands..my mind races and I think of all sorts of images of a better rental car or and extra month in Key West. Nope I order the grouper basket. Perfectly fried super crispy and very large with their silver dollar fries. Bill starts will their chili which was flavorful, full of cheese and red onions but not hot. The conch chowder must be tried. Linn ordered this and I was given a taste. Damn should have ordered it.....a must. Loads of chewy conch, wonderful tropical flavors and did I say conch. You just don't get conch in the conch republic. Now, the pizza. Sorry but just didn't do it for me. More of a deep dish with very flaky crust. Don't let me stop you from ordering it ....just not my taste. Liz ordered the individual 8" and found it blah. Service is excellent, friendly and efficient. Ambience is crazy and the guests are all friendly and regulars. You will want to go back. Take 1 to Key Deer and go left to Watson and at the end left again and there you are!!
Aside from all the dollar bill wall paper, this is your usual pub. The servers are nice and the food is pretty good. Known for their pizza and some unique fish items.
If you've found it, you know. Never attempt the first trip there with a bunch of people who've spent the whole day in Key West drinking. Also, look at for the Key Deer that look like emaciated German Shepherds.
The pizza is solid and the toppings endless. The beer selection is strong. The dollars on the walls (which must figure into the $10,000's tell a great story of the visitors to this place. If you travel through the keys, you gotta try to find this place, it's worth the trip.
Simply Awesome Food
Also a historic and tourist "don't miss" for the Florida Keys
I love this place. The food is awesome and the decor, well you really gotta see this for yourself. Great service
This is a fun, not to be missed place. The pizza is very good - we're from the Chicago area and know our pizza! Heck, part of the fun is just finding the place.
