Hands down the best gyros in Reno. A low bar, of course, but they'd be the best gyros in a lot of towns. Amazing baklava, too. It's inexpensive, and you can eat your food at the nearby West Street Wine Bar with a nice glass of something.
The owner, Niko, is an incredibly nice man, and it's normally him and/or his wife behind the counter. Don't be confused-this ain't fine dining. It is really great, cheap food served with a smile. -

I always forget about this little spot.
Good food at a nice walk up price.
After a few cooly pops I wandered in here and had the standard Gyro.
Tasty, good sauce, fries are fine.
Niko (?) is a nice guy, takes car of business and cranks out some good fast chow. -

I had the standard gyro with fries and a canned soda. I think this place has the best gyro in town and the price is lower. The fries are fantastic too. I'll definitely be back to try some other menu items.

Located in small restaurant cove. Gyros were a very large portions with large serving of fries. Gyro meat was tasty but taziki sauce was just okay.

I am a huge fan of Niko's. He is a super nice guy! I wish there was easier parking but the garage is close especially if you go down the side ally. The gyros are my favorite. His fries are also great. I love his feta. Sooooo much better then the stuff at the grocery store. We were the only people there on a Saturday night but it was early. It was nice because my kids could play and not interrupt anyone. I can't wait to go back!

Reno, NV
Only been there once, but I liked it. Would give it 5 stars, but the ambiance is the only negative.
We had the Nikos Special - salad with gyro meat and pita wedges. The meat was tender, spicy, and just the right temperature for a salad. The pita tasted freshly made; soft and slightly chewy with a hint of garlic. The salad greens and vegetables were all fresh and crisp with a very light oil and vinegar dressing that complemented rather than overwhelmed the flavor of the meat.
The 4th Street Market space has so much potential. It would be nice to see it it better utilized and "spiffed up" a bit. More umbrellas for the outside seating would be a good addition.
Will definitely be back for a gyro. -

Yummy lamb Gyros, served with fat steak fries. Me and my husband stopped here for lunch on a cross country trip, and it quenched our craving for Gyros. Tip: it doesn't have a shop front onthe main street, you have to go in a building that has several bars and small restaurants within it. The Baklava was great too.

I actually found this place really randomly. I go to Reno quite often & lately I have been craving Greek food. Niko's is kinda a hole in the wall place, but a really good one to find! I got the lamb gyro & the boyfriend got the chicken gyro (he was scared to try Greek food lol). He stuffs your gyros so that every bite something is falling out. The meat tasted fresh and the tzatziki sauce was really good too. The owner was also really friendly. He kept on talking to us and made us feel really welcome. The only negative I can say about this place is the location. It was hard to find & they were doing construction on the front of the building it was in. I will def go here again.

While in town from Las Vegas I was exploring south downtown of Reno and fell upon this amazing hole in the wall spot. Nikos Greek kitchen offers exceptional authentic traditional grrek style cooking. Not only that but the staff espicaially Nikos was beyond five stars. I ordered the vegetarian gyro and I must say the fries were the best Ive ever had. Talk about a mouth orgasm! LMAO but in all seriousness if you get the chance to check out Nikos kitchens its a definite MUST HAVE!!!!!!

A tourist will know he's stumbled on to something when he spots law officers in an establishment. This is that kind of place.
I had the gyro - large enough, and filling. The Coke was a bit pricey and the location was, well, odd. But it was walking distance from the hotels.
Good stuff! -

Reno, NV
located in west street market is the most authentic greek food i have had in town. too bad west street market doesnt seem to be as happening as the city thought it would. my wife and i were the only people in the whole area. anyway... i had a classic gyro and it was all that i expected; true authentic taste and feel. the business is very small and kinda tucked into a corner of the inside area. they have outside seating too, which is really nice in spring and fall. its run by the owner, and his wife i think. i love mom and pop places!!
everything was great, i will be there the next time i have a craving for gyros!!! would i suggest to a friend....YES!! -

I love Greek food. So when my husband & I decided to go to Reno, I looked up restaurants on Yelp & found this one. Everyone seemed to love the food, I have to say that I was not crazy about it. It was simply okay. I guess we have more authentic Greek food in California. The Gyros were dry & what little sauce it did have was not very good. I like lots of diced tomato & cucumber on my Gyro as well. Not the case here. The Gyro meat was a little on the dry side & sliced much to thick for my taste, but the service was friendly. That is always a plus. Would I revisit this place if I was in Reno again.......probably not.

We miss your gyros already! We are in Providence now... (Cory and Sam) and there is no Greek food here that could hold a candle to your food and delightfulness... move here and we will be your first customers. Ps... the souvlaki, gyros, and fries are unbeatable. Love you guys!

Today waiting for a phone call we decided to go to Nikos, never been before. Phone call never came.
Nice guy greeted us and took the order as well as made the food. Gyro-fries and a drink. Gus and I had the same thing.
The Gyro was quite tasty. Now if you had read any of my reviews it has been stated I am not a fry kind of guy but these fries were really good with a clean and very crisp flavour. I actually ate several and enjoyed them.
I guess this place on West street is a good concept and perhaps would have a better feel to it if more folks were about. It was just kind of vacant and lacking a good vibe, God did I just say vibe? But we will be back for sure. -

Best Greek Food in Reno, methinks!
I love Greek food, but it's always so expensive! And finding a Greek place with reasonable hours is very difficult.
Enter: Niko's Greek Kitchen.
For under $7 per person, you get a full meal with all the trimmings. Niko's gyros are the absolute best. The lamb is shaved off a vertical spit and it's always tender and delicious.
The tzatziki sauce is flavorful, creamy and has noticeable chunks of fresh cucumber in it. The produce is fresh and the gyros are made with soft, pillowy flatbread.
The dolmades are out of this world. Sprinkled with feta cheese and lightly covered in chopped onions, they are tart and vinegary outside, rich and savoury inside - with a mint-like aftertaste that cleanses the palate. The spanakopita is also delicious. It seems to be made here with the baklava crust. It's definitely worth a try.
The only downside to Niko's is the lack of a soda fountain for bottomless refills. He offers some great beer choices and some decent soft drink variety, but the only diet options are water or Pepsi Max in a can. Do yourself a favor. Bring your own drink if you don't want beer.
My mom had the Souvlaki and allowed me to sample some. It was tender and delicious and perfectly seasoned, served over a bed of crispy fries.
Everything was wonderful, especially the atmosphere.
If you like upscale, polished locations, this isn't the place for you. I don't like locations like that. I like very casual, comfortable, airy atmospheres that are unpretentious, not crowded and maintain a feeling of being part of the community you find yourself visiting.
Niko's does just that. They're tucked away inside a little pavilion of shops in downtown Reno. Parking wasn't an issue, which was surprising for us. The chairs are lawn/patio style steel furniture which matched the table, but it was all shockingly comfortable.
The floor and ceiling are bare and unfinished. It looks more like a warehouse than anything else and the door is kept wide open, so you can freely move in and out to dine in the pavilion or inside the building if you so desire. All the while, you see people going about their daily lives in Reno and, due to the style of the set up, it's easy to feel like you're actually in a small village in Greece.
And, of course, Niko and the others who work there are incredibly eager to please. They're very nice and exceedingly helpful. They genuinely care about their restaurant and the satisfaction of their customers.
In short, this is one of the very best places to eat Greek Food on the West Coast. Believe me. I've looked. -

Pretty tasty gyro meat. It's not ground fine and then compacted, like some gyro meat. It's got a fibrous texture. The meat was tasty and when you get as a salad there's plenty of salad.
I'd like to try some of the other food. -

Based on prior reviews, my wife and decided to try here for lunch, and we were not disappointed. She also had a hankering for fries, and a gyro & fries for $6 is not bad at all.
We shared a plate of dolmas, which were absolutely delicious, and then we both had Gyros and fries. The gyros were great, and the fries fresh and crispy. The pita was soft and tasty, the meat delicious, and the tzatziki was great.
I also enjoyed the "Mythos" brand beer I had with my lunch. I hadn't had that brand before, and it was a refreshing accompaniment to the gyro.
We will definitely be back for more. -

Hell. Yes.
I have a list of foods I search out whenever I'm somewhere new and if I find these foods in good quality and for a reasonable price I decided a city is worth its salt. Sushi, carnitas, GYROS.
Found my gyros. My sis and I made a special trip into Reno just for these gyros and they did not disappoint. Nikos is a little hole in the wall in an indoor mall-type area with a few metal tables and chairs to enjoy your lunch at. Service was quick and the food was well-priced. We each got a gyro and split an order of spanakopita. Stupendous. We were stuffed, happy, and positively reeking of onion, garlic, and gyro meat when we left. Perfect. Now go! -

Been to the West Street Market area yet? I hope so, cause down there they got some good eats! Nikos Greek Kitchen was just the thing to start a nice little date night with my wife, Gyros and some hummus. Great selection of sodas. Nice quick service.
I will return. -

I'm down for a very nice authentic tasting gyros. Say yee-row. Kay?
I ordered without the onions and with cucumbers. Oh yeah baby. Good stuff.
$6 and the drink was free. Beat that McDonalds. -

Great Food! Our lunches were made to order and brought to our table. Our Gyros were super along with the Greek salad. Very good prices for the quality. The only downside is the West Street Market which does not appear to be doing well. There seems to be several vacant spots in the Market.

I wanted a gyro today, badly. We got ourselves ready, packed up the kids, and headed downtown. Niko's closes at FIVE on Sunday. Yes, the time change has me a bit wonky, but you have got to be shitting me. 5pm on a Sunday in downtown Reno? Really!? Seriously?!? Gaaaaaaaah! *head desk*
The kind lady working in the wine bar validated our parking ticket and told me that on Sunday's they close up far earlier than 5pm, and that their hours are erratic with regularity.
I still want a damn gyro. I'm taking away a star now for the shitty hours.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Reno, NV
We went to Niko's in part because we had a 2 for 1 gyros coupons and in part because they had a number of very positive reviews on yelp. It's right in the corner of downtown and parking is a bit of a challenge. Niko's is a little food counter in a larger complex that includes a wine bar, a hot dog place, Reno Envy, and another bar with a large courtyard prior to entering the building.
The service is great and fun. The cook and his wife like to mess with people, but in a fun, loving sort of way. I would suggest not going here and taking yourself too seriously. They are quite friendly.
Hours vary and may be different than those posted here on yelp as their son recently moved to Vegas. Their posted hours for Saturday run until 8 p.m. according to their sign whereas the Yelp listing says 8:30 p.m. It's probably best to call to ensure that they're open based on Yelp hours.
We got a chicken gyro and a standard gyro which has a combination of steak and lamb.
The gyros both came with crispy salted fries and included meat, a yogurt sauce, onions and tomatoes in on a large grilled gyro flatbread.
The bread was absolutely superb. It smelled like a number of good pizza joints that I've visited. It was a tiny bit greasy, with lots of good grilled meat and sauce flavor. The meat was okay, a bit on the greasy side (also grilled), but not with a great deal of flavor. I found the onions and tomatoes a nice addition, but it was challenging at times to keep them in the flatbread. That's sort of to be expected. We're dealing with gyros here, sort of like tacos, not like an omelet or layered cake. I found the tahini sauce lacking flavor, at times it was hard to tell it was yogurt and it lacked the pizazz of a typical tahini. It's unfortuante as the whole composition was dependent on the yogurt sauce.
Altogether not bad, but in general I'd probably search for something better. I've had better Mediterranean/Greek/Gyros by being fortunate enough to live in a food mecca like Berkeley and having many Doener Kabobs while in Germany.
It might make you happy, but I'd be surprised if there were not a better gyro in Reno/Sparks.
As a quick fix to fill you up, definitely an acceptable option. -

The best greek food ive found in reno so far. The staff is very friendly and accomodating, going out of their way to tell us about the food and make substitions and recommendations. We had the chicken gyro with a greek salad side and the Nikos special which was gyro meat and pita bread on a greek salad. Everything was excellent the meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The pita bread was soft yet chewy and the tzatziki was plentiful and flavorful. There isnt much ambiance going on but the food is a must try.

Niko's was decent. I've had much better Greek food (outside of Reno) so I was a bit disappointed. My boyfriend and I ordered the gyro and fries as an afternoon snack to share. It was a nice size portion, especially for the price, but I didn't think it was as flavorful as it could have been. I would go back if I were hungry and in the area, but I would not make a special trip.

I just returned from Santorini and Athens so I was craving some Greek food. I was pretty bummed out because none of the places in Reno that I've tried so far had been very authentic. Last weekend I participated in the downtown wine walk and stumbled into the lovely West St Market center and there was Nikos! Like a gift from the Gods. haha. I took a copy of their menu and vowed to return while sober.
I made true to that promise yesterday and I'm glad I did. Nikos has a small but satisfying selection of menu items. We ordered Dolmades to share, and I had Souvlaki (did not indicate what kind pork, beef, lamb, chicken?) and my dining partner chose a gyro. I was pleased to see the gyro meat was cut from an upright rotating spit instead of frozen reheated slices like some other places in town. One drawback was that they only had one person working who had to take our orders and payment and also cook our food, so that meant a long wait. We weren't in a hurry, but it was a pretty long time and I imagine it would be worse if there were lots of diners (there was only one other customer at the time).
But the food. Ah the food. The Dolmades cost a mere $3.99 and were delicious. 5 plump fingers of stuffed grape leaves served with a sprinkling of sliced red onion and feta crumbles on top. Both our Gyro and Souvlaki came with a generous side of perfectly cooked french fries (hot, crisp on the outside, tender and fluffy on the inside). My Souvlaki were two hefty skewers of marinated and grilled chicken meat (thigh I think, was dark and juicy). Flavorful and juicy but there was one bite of fatty skin in between the cubes of meat which caused me to discreetly spit into my napkin. Just one though. I ate one skewer and gave the other to my dining partner and ate about half the fries provided and was more than full. Good deal for $6.99. The Gyro (5.99) was stuffed with slices of meat, some cucumber, onion, and tomato along with a mound of tzaziki. The Gyro meat was very good, the pita soft. I wasn't crazy about the tzaziki sauce as it tasted like the kind that's cut with mayonnaise (I prefer only yogurt) and didn't have enough garlicky kick, but it was ok. Overall all items were delicious and very filling and as close to authentic as I've had in Reno.
I'll definitely be back, maybe as a post movie meal or any time I'm wandering downtown. They'll have to hire more people for better customer service, but that will happen as business picks up hopefully. For 2 entrees, a shared appetizer, and 2 drinks (canned sodas from their cooler) the total was just over $20. -

The fries were good and after that it all went down hill. My gyro had nothing but black, burnt meat on it that they attempted to cover up with an insane amount of tzatziki sauce that was pretty bland on it's own. Needless to say this did not cover up the fact that the beef jerky consistency and foul tasting burnt meat was still in the pita. No thanks, never again.

Holy Tsaziki ! This was the BEST genuine greek lamb gyro I've ever had!
The lamb is cut off a traditional vertical spit, toasty on the outside and juicy on the inside with all the right spices. And there was a PILE of it. And the Tsaziki was tart and yoghurty (he only uses 100% yoghurt, no mayo or sour cream). I substituted the fries for a huge greek salad for only $2 more and that made a delicious meal I had a hard time finding the room to finish, but I managed.
I will definitely be back with my wife and friends. -

Reno, NV
It's not even remotely spectacular as some are stating but it is decent and worth a try if you want a gyro and can't do it yourself. 3 stars from me. The gyro's are OK and are a reasonable price. I've had much better in other cities from food carts BUT FOR RENO (lol) these are acceptable and edible. Average at best, kinda on the level with the average quality of most reno food. For $6 you can't beat getting a decent gyro(street vendor cart quality) here made for you and It comes with Thick Fries which were good and a can of soda. Great location if you are headed out to catch a flick(river cinema) or enjoying the river park.
For decades I have been making my own gyro's and gyro meat with ground lamb, fresh marjoram, fresh garlic etc and also make homemade tzatziki sauce/Greek yogurt, cucumber, garlic, dill, mint etc etc. SO I know a good or bad gyro when I hit a food cart in a city. I suspect they buy the meat in the pre-made frozen blocks sold to street vendors/food carts but either way the meat was just acceptable. Not on the level you will find at a homemade greek family dinner but on the level as to what you will get from a Street vendor food cart in a larger city. OK, but not great or anything. Your basic street vendor gyro meat (ground beef/lamb). They sell it in smaller blocks at supermarkets IF you want to take a beginners stab at making homemade gyros without having to mix up and season the meat yourself.
Their tzatziki sauce(If you could call it that) could definitely use a major upgrade of some cucumber and fresh garlic and also some fresh dill or mint. It was just Plain Yogurt (I hope Greek at least) maybe some powdered garlic was added but definitely no fresh bits of cucumber or garlic and I didn't see a speck of dill or mint added. So so but not bad in any way. Basically just plain yogurt not a real kick-ass tzatziki sauce. They need to kicked it up a notch or two with fresh dill, garlic and cucumber. It takes a lot of work, to make a real authentic homemade tzatziki sauce (squeezing the juice out of the cucumber, pureeing the garlic, chopping fresh dill or mint.) but it is worth the extra effort. Plain yogurt with not much added is just ho hum.
I tried the dolmas they were good they had a little ground gyro meat mixed in and some feta crumbled on top with a few slices of onion and a drizzle of olive oil. Another 3 stars.
Overall the gyros here are OK and worth a try. Nothing spectacular but if you haven't had a gyro in a while and are getting a craving give them a try. -

Niko's is the best find I have made in Reno, for as long as I can remember. Having been lucky enough to eat Greek food in Greece, this is as good as you can get this side of the world.
The Gyro's are amazing, served in a warm pita, with taziki sauce that matches the subtle flavors in the meat perfectly.
The Souvlaki is an awesome choice too, with moist meat, on a bed of perfect fries.
I found this place over the summer and have been coming back all the time ever since. At times I find my self eating there 4+ times a week, yes its that good.
Just go, you wont regret it. -

Having lived in Turkey for 4 years, I'm a pretty tough critic of the Mediterranean food I've had in the US... but I tried Niko's Greek Kitchen for the first time today and it gets a definite thumbs up! The Niko's special was well worth the visit! (If you're calorie-conscious you may want to ask him to go easy on the olive oil on the salad, but all in all it was super flavorful, tenderly cooked, fresh, and all around good!) I definitely recommend it!

Yummy! I had the gyros, which was packed full of gorgeous meat, beautiful veggies, and tasty tahziki. I devoured it. A gyro and fries was $6, and it was worth it. The spanokopita was not as great as I had hopes, but my fantastic gyro made up for it.

Had a hankering for some gyro's and of course turned to my friends at yelp to make that happen today. Boy am I glad. This is a jewel in downtown reno. I had the gyro/fries combo for 5.95. Out of this world. I love the hand carved meat off the spit. Fresh Tzatziki and very fresh veggies accompanied the dish. Fries were very good as well. Can't wait to bring some friends down with me so I can try other dishes and some appetizers. Souvlaki is up next!

I love Niko's Gyros. I used to work for him when he owned Greko's Pizza and that was the first time i had tried Greek food. INCREDIBLE. His Gyro meat is always very tender and there is always just the right amount of condiments. I have gone to a couple other places for Gyros since and they just don't taste the same. Now if Nikos would just add the Spanikopita and Pastitio to the menu!!!!

Sooooo happy this place exists! DH swears it's the best gyro in town; the chicken souvlaki is to DIE FOR, cooked perfectly, and served on top of a plate of fries. The owner/cook is super nice and genuinely interested in your reaction to the food. You gotta work out extra hard the next day to burn it all off, but well worth it!
