I've been coming here for at least 2 year.
This is next to a donut shop, minimal parking, no attraction at all, except for their cheesy 50% off banner signs.
Surprisingly good, I come at least once a month on a Friday and the usual people are there. BBQ beef, salmon, tuna, albacore, ahi poke (special order), sashimi salad, miso soup, seaweed salad, oyster shooters, hot sake, and I've had every roll possible on the menu.
I come here with my husband and we usually don't go home hungry. Since we know the sushi chefs now, we always ask for the freshest fish to be served for the night.
There is definitely friendly service, funny chefs to entertain us, good fresh fish, and occasional special order not on the menu. We sit there for hours at a time. Family run business and I feel the price is fair for their quality. They don't open on Sundays, because the fish market is not open.
The only thing that kind of weirds me out is the chefs go out to smoke on their break time and you get to see them on the corner some times. They do wash their hands, but I'm not a fan of smokers.
Driven by so many times without stopping - hey this place has like zero curb appeal - but I'll be stopping by more often :-)
Their sushi is always 50% off ($3.25 - $3.50 each order), and their pieces are big - so that's a bargain if you ask me. I shared a mixed salad with sushi which wasn't on sale ($12.00) but it was enough for both of us, so I figure it was a good deal and it was delish.
We got a roll that had tuna, asparagus and topped with fried lobster It was good, but I like my rolls without alot of sauce all over the rice. I'll probably pass on that next time and just get more sushi.
Beer is only Japanese - which is ok with me.. after all, it is a sushi place. Oh, it's ice cold and they give you a mug out of the freezer, so it's arctic cold!
If they were in a better location, I'm sure this place would be packed.

This used to be my go to spot for some sushi. Yes, its not eh best sushi in LA, but for the price it couldn't be beat. Unfortunately their prices have gone up, but the quality of the food no longer matches. I still go there from time to time as i love the staff, and could talk sports with Joe the owner all night, but i definitely do not frequent this spot as much.
Cool little spot for the neighborhood, but not the same value it used to be.
Love this place. Great Sushi, Great Service. If you haven't tried this place you should. I like the Lobster roll, Sunshine roll, and Dragon roll.
I'd heard this place was great but avoided it for ever b/c it just looks scary outside. Finally broke down and was so glad I did. I bet I've been 10 times in the last year. It's delicious and affordable. The fish is fresh and always really high quality. I hate that I waited so long to try it b/c it's my stand-by these days.
Service was a bit slow. Food was okay.
I think Niko Niko is delish sushi but I dont agree about it being cheap. I've always found it to be the most expensive sushi place...
whatever its good tho.
Ok, 5 stars? Are you people CRAZY? I feel like I just stepped into the loony bin. The "absolute best sushi on the Westside"?!?! Y'all taking crazy pills.
I have a feeling that Niko NIko attracts its unsuspecting customers through their 50% off banners in front of the restaurant. 50% off sushi sounds great until you realize that it includes 50% off quality too. The sushi and the fish here are not even worth the $23 I spent on two people.
I have been coming here for years. The sushi is always top quality, the owner, Joe is really chill and always hooks it up with extra sushi if I sit at the bar. The prices are amazing for the quality sushi you get. The place is clean and the music is pleasant.
When I come in I don't even have to say anything, the miso soup and green tea is automatically served on my table. The top choice sushi here is yellowtail tuna and white tuna, a must try. But also try their salmon, octopus, albacore, and ikura!
Will come here again and again and again, highly recommend it!
Overall, a great place. The fish is fresh, the portions are generous, the people are sweethearts, and the prices are very reasonable. I have no idea what people's complaints are with the rice. I eat rice from an authentic Japanese market 2-3 times a week and Niko Niko's rice tastes just as soft and good.
Two reasons I didn't give them the full 5 stars...
1. They get very busy on weekend evenings and this is when the service tends to faulter. They try, but just get a bit overwhelmed.
2. I do have to agree with a couple of previous reviewers and say that I have had some frozen tasting sushi a couple of times. However, many many more times than not it has been very fresh and very good.
Definitely my favorite sushi spot on the Westside.
For the money, you can't beat this place.
Great tasting sushi with great service, served fast with smile.
Ask the chef at the bar which is freshest of the day, and they are fresh everytime.
Taste very good to me, certainly worth the money.
Roll toppings cooked/non japanese are fine/edible.
Rice is awful. Even worse than ralphs...
this would have been 2 stars if i just rated due to my first time coming here. now it is a 3.5. i'll elaborate.
i've been here twice. i was lured in by the 50% sign during my alternate route going home. the fish was ok and the rice was ehh and way too much. the 50% off didn't make it that much cheaper, cuz the stuff i wanted to eat was only 20% off. the service was great, but there was only one table other than me. i remember having fish that tasted like they're freshly thawed (and not all the way!). i wanted to like this place, but the icy fish made me put off my visit until last week.
so i went back last week because i wanted something that was on the way from my day job to my night job. i figured i'd give it another go. it was a thursday night and i was the only patron there, needless to say, service was great and attentive.
the waitress suggested the bluefin tuna. I ordered the bluefin, yellowtail, ankimo, spicy scallop handroll, and something else. i asked for easy rice, which made the hard-ish rice negligible and my meal so much more enjoyable. all the fish tasted good and non-slimy. i expected the bluefin to be more melty, but then i realized that i never like normal tuna and this was definitely better and softer than normal maguro. the ankimo was a bit different than other places i've tried. actually it takes like the yolk from marinated hard boiled eggs (chinese style). i liked that taste, so i didn't mind, but i totally would understand why another viewer would not like it. i really like their spicy scallop rolls! almost as much as i like yagumo's spicy scallop rolls! they use just the right amount of mayo and a perfect scallop/rice ratio with not too much veggies. YUM!
the meal ended up costing me $28 including tip, so while it is reasonable for the food i got, don't expect a big discount because of the 50% off tag. i think i got my money's worth with fish that was good (that day at least) and generous cuts and nice people.
I really liked this place, the sashimi there is really inexpensive, its around 5 or 6 dollars for salmon or yellowtail sushi and it comes with about 6 or 7 pieces, i usually get one of each and a side of sushi rice so its a great deal for Chirashi sushi!
note: sometimes the sashimi comes ICE COLD like it came off of the freezer or something, its not a huge deal to me but it might be to some, well ,rather ice cold then luke warm right?
The absolute best sushi on the Westside. The food is delicious, the price is right, and the staff is super friendly. I've been here with my wife about 30 times in the last couple of years, and we've had mixed results with the service... they don't seem to handle large parties well. But if you're looking for something romantic, or better yet, a place to entertain an out of town sushi-loving client, this is the place to go. I love the Laker Roll and the Sunshine Roll best.
Sick Sick Sick. My boyfriend and I couldn't eat sushi for weeks because he got the most disgusting fish here. Yuck:(
Love this place. Kobe beef sushi is amazing. Price is great. Hidden. Never a crowd. Fresh. Delicious. Service is the best. Never a dissappointment.
i really enjoy eating here when i'm in a quick pinch. the chefs are Japanese and speak Japanese (not Korean or Spanish). what more can you ask for in a sushi joint?
the rolls are great, but i'm not sure about the regular sushi since everyone else who reviewed here seems to think it's bad.
I went here twice, happy hour prices are good but the service took a while so I got bored and started playing with my chop sticks and was told by the waitress to stop it, so I did and I won't be back.
disclaimer: this review is based on going here only once. i promise to try again and update.
over all, i liked niko niko. the sushi was fine (i got veg, of course, but my omnivorous companion got fish and gave it a thumbs up). the sake was decent (especially since we got the cheapest one), and the sake cocktails pretty good too. i thought the prices were a bit high and the sushi / sports bar thing was a bit wierd to me. also we went on a friday night and it was pretty deserted. still, there was a decent veg selection and i've heard good things about the happy hour, so it's worth a shot!
This may well be the worst sushi I've ever had. Yes, it's cheap. Yes, they give you somewhat big portions. But jeez. You can't just buy any fish from Albertsons and thaw it out and eat it raw. I've been three times. Last time I got a "kobe beef sushi" in addition to sashimi. I had hoped for a kobe carpaccio. The "kobe" was cooked, at least medium well, and tied with a little nori. I think it wasn't kobe. They forgot my friend's miso. The service was just shy of terrible. I know they try. They were great with the sake, keeping it warmed up and all. One star for effort. One star for not making me sick. One star for my strong stomach.
Fresh fish! Good sushi! Also good service and friendly people.
The sushi here won't kill you (+). The 1/2 off sushi happy hour is pretty decent (+). The food and service won't wow you (-). I've been here twice but was not terribly impressed. I would rather get the boxed sushi at Trader Joe's across the street.
I went here after work and sat at the sushi bar. Ordered the Popcorn Lobster roll (or something like that), baked scallop roll and an order of white tuna nigiri. The rolls were decent and well presented. The sushi was just ok. Service was good. My only complaint is that the 50% off price is a little deceiving. They increased their nigiri prices to $7 so it would come out to around $3 per piece (which is regular price). It wasn't bad, but it just didn't have enough for me to return.
Great sushi place! The staff is very friendly, even the sushi chefs say goodbye when you leave.
I liked it. The sushi was good but not the best and the staff is great every time I go here.
the sushi is so-so. sashimi is good and and somewhat fresh, don't touch the fish liver tho...it's a bit pungent. not a big fan on fried tuna rolls, dynamite roll is not so dynamite and the shrimp tempura is average.
Second time i've been here and it's not a "wowzer" kinda place, but if you're lookn for somewhat of a happy hour environment, this could be a place to visit.
This isn't LA's freshest fish. Still, Niko Niko is a nice place to get pretty fresh fish and well-made rolls at reasonable prices. Good overall experience.
Nice staff. Rolls were good. The price was reasonable.
Tried this place out the other night. I would say its an average sushi joint, from the outside it does not look appealing or inviting but once inside it cleans up nicely. The prices were normal, they advertise 50-20 % off, however most the rolls are priced high to begin with. The fish did not taste extremely fresh, however it was not disgusting, just average. Service was great and fast. Very open seating, not very private for going on a date for example.
love the sushi, chef and everything.
