seriously one of my favorite new sushi spots. excellent service. the place is cute, modern, and really unpretentious. great variety of fusion rolls. there's a lot that leaves me coming back for more.

like my chicago spot, midori, you'll be greeted with miso soup and an asian salad, along with small little sample tastes here and there throughout your meal. YUM!!!! I'm not sure if you can count on this as being a permanent part of their service, but still a great plus anyway. It offers a hint of what else they have to offer.

Must-try for the ladies: Lychee sake!!! so delicious!!

The only downside is that it's hard to find the restaurant, since the sign is in Korean and it may be a little difficult to get into from the road (I usually miss it and have turn around).

But really worth it. Plus, they're open late! Yayyyy! Check out my pics.

This place makes me so happy!  My boyfriend and I have been here a few times since moving to the area last spring.  Each time we have experienced exceptional service!  The staff is genuinely welcoming, attentive, and enthusiastic.  The sushi is fresh and of good quality (we have only ordered sushi, so I can't speak to the quality of their other food).  Their prices are reasonable, especially for a sushi restaurant.  Every time we have been here we have received complementary soup, salad, appetizer sample, and small dessert with our order!

This restaurant offers a truly enjoyable dinning experience, from food to customer service.  I recommend giving it a try!

Let's start off this new 2012 year right with some great Sushi!

I'm a BIG fan of sushi and love reading about different finds as well as finding them myself. If you've read my previous review on Sushi Ya in Schaumburg, I stated that it was a great restaurant. However, things have changed I've I found Nikko Sushi.

We came here about a little over a year ago and was impressed by this venue. (just didn't have time to rave about it) Back then, when we first came here, they asked if we've been there before. Our reply "no". Then the magic started to happen.  Ever since that "no", we were flourished with free bites of certain appetizers and even rolls!  We were full from the free stuff that we felt bad for not ordering an actual meal.  I first thought that the rolls were too small, but then again, each place makes it differently.

RECENTLY, we came here and were seated right away after driving to several sushi locations to NOT be amazed.  You could say that we just "settled" here, but my last visit wasn't horrible to the point where I wouldn't have wanted to come back.  This time, we were brought the traditional miso soup and salad. (did you know that most placed don't offer these two items as "free" items before your meal? - food for thought) Anyhow, we tried the kuma, barabara, chicago, katie, and kristie.

    Kuma - eh
    Barbara - AMAZING
    Chicago - good
    Katie - Spicy
Kristie - REALLY spicy (to me)
(I have pictures of them all :))

Anyhow, our dinner ended with complimentary desert! We received some green tea ice cream and chocolate drizzled fruit.

Vote - All 3 would come here again.

New to the area and Nikko was suggested, so tried it out and was very pleased! It is a great place to have close by and we really enjoyed the warm welcome we received to the cute, clean, and unpretentious place. They brought us soup and a tiny salad (this never happens anymore, as we know) and we ordered a couple of apps. We realized later that we didn't really need the Nikko Special and tempura but were just hungry. It was good but gratuitous for us.

    We ordered several rolls:
Sasha: very tasty baked roll. Totally not good for you but goooood.
    Barbara: good, clean, fresh
Nikko: Baked and good...I liked Sasha better if you are talking strictly baked rolls but this was tasty as well

    Crunchy Caterpillar-Yum
Some other caterpillar that was good too.

They brought us green tea ice cream at the end and the service was very sweet. We kept ordering stuff and they didn't rush us out. All in all, a pleasant experience and I am stuffed!!!

Nikko has the best sushi in the northwest suburbs. The food is always delicious and you get a bunch of freebies such as miso soup, salad, and ice cream for desert. The wait staff is super friendly, and always very happy to see you. I recommend trying the Nikko Toltilla appetizer. Its really tasty.

Sushi places are so hard to review...In the midwest, this is five-star.  On the west coast, probably four-star.  In any case...

I've just had one meal (so far - I will definitely return, if I'm in the area).  During my first visit to a sushi place, I always go for chef's choice sushi.  I did so, and added a tuna roll, given that I hadn't eaten much that day.  The sushi pieces were delectable.  Melt-in-your-mouth fresh and delicious.  They start you with miso, a small salad, and an amuse bousche, and they finish with fresh fruit for dessert.  What happens in between is all about fresh fish, done with an experienced hand.

The room is very comfortable, just slightly trendy.  The service was terrific.  I don't have my own chopsticks, but they will store yours for you.

So...Chicago-area sushi.  It's down to Nikko and Kinu (Evanston) as my recommendations for best in the area.

Overall the sushi is good but it's overshadowed by uninformed service. Servers don't know English so they do not understand your questions (i.e. what are your three favorite rolls, etc.). They mostly smile and pretend to understand. They mean well but it definitely takes away from the experience of eating here.

Great Place if you like your ginger salad with a side of hair! I've been going here for about a year and a half. I was their biggest fan, always recommending them to my family and friends, until I had dinner tonight. I noticed a piece of hair in my salad. Since my boyfriend doesn't like to make a big fuss he told me not to eat it and move on. My waitress came over and she noticed the hair and apologized for it and didn't bring me another salad, which is fine whatever. Then we ate our sushi rolls and when the bill came she didn't even make an attempt to compensate my poor experience. When I brought this up, she told me that the salad is FREE so why would she take anything off my bill. REALLY? So that means since my salad comes free with my meal it's OKAY to have a piece of hair in it. WELL I was definitely not satisfied with this. She said she will get her boss, so another lady come to our table and she offered me a gift certificate for a free appetizer, Nikko Tortilla. I actually had ordered that and they weren't willing to take that off my bill, but they want to give me coupon to come back and have another one!!!! NO THANK YOU!! I cannot believe I had this experience at one of my favorite sushi place ever!!! SO VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!! They must not care since they have gotten so busy and have a lot of business, but I sure wish they would have given me more respect and compensation for my bad experience!! GOOD LUCK!

I love everything about this place: the atmosphere, the service, and the food. Every time I walk in, I'm greeted right away by the waiters and waitresses who seem genuinely happy to be there. I've always been seated right away and given attentive and helpful service. Friendly service from beginning to the very end.

The sushi here is really fresh, especially for a place placed in the suburbs. Personally, I think it is worth the price and there are other menu options that are cheaper for those who don't want to spend that much (plus they always give you free dishes and dessert!) The food also comes out pretty fast!

Food: Excellent sushi, excellent everything. We're always first served with a bowl of miso soup and salad with ginger-based dressing. The meal always ends with some bite sized desserts too. And these are free! Moving on to the actual menu, the food is always good. Sushi is fresh, served quickly and everything just tastes so darned good.

Price: Fair prices for awesome food. Totally worth it.

Service: All the staff are very welcoming and very polite. They're also quick to serve or clear empty plates.

Environment: Its a little small, so its not great when it gets crowded. If you're bringing more than 4 people you should definitely make a reservation.

I recommend: The beef tortillas appetizer. Its warm, its savory, its scrumptious. And feel free to try any of the sushi. I guarantee they're all good.

They REALLY know how to make a GREAT first impression. First time stepping in this place with my coworkers, and they ended up giving us free egg rolls, steamed egg, and ice cream.

Coworker ordered the spicy chicken and said he loved it. Myself I had the teriyaki chicken, which was a little dry but actually perfect for my diet (low on sauce, chicken breast).

Terrific service, and food above par. We will DEFINITELY return again.

Nikko is my sushi place.  I have been here for lunch many times and I just refer to it as "the sushi place", because I never go anywhere else.  I have even earned my chopsticks on the regular's shelf.  I now get to enjoy the best sushi in the burbs with a nice set of chopsticks in a little box with my name on it.  The waitress always knows my name, and after my long embarrassment from never asking hers, I found out it was Jenny.

Nikko is located in a tiny little strip mall.  There is not a huge parking lot, but I have never had trouble finding a spot.
As you walk in, be prepared to be greeted as if you were a regular, regardless of whether it is your first visit or your 100th.  The staff always seem genuinely glad to see every customer.

The interior seems kind of small due to the layout, but there is actually more seating that it would at first appear.  My usual habit is to arrive before noon, so I always get a table.  I tend to avoid Friday's at Nikko because everyone seems to want sushi on Friday and it can strain the staff a little.
There is seating at the bar where the chef is working his magic, but I have never sat there.  It is rare to see anyone sitting there and I suspect that is because it is very cramped and your back would be right next to the high traffic area.

Keep an ear out for the background music.  It is usually some bizarre remake of pop music or some kind of Musak.  I used to wish that they would play something that better fit my stereotype of what Asian dining should be like, but I have now grown to accept the cheesy music.

I start with something to drink, which usually consists of water or hot tea, depending on the season.  When I don't go for lunch, I like to get sake.  The waitress helps me to choose something good because this is one alcohol that I am not very familiar with because I don't drink it often.  (Just remember that heating sake is a way to try and cover up bad sake.  Sake is best when it is slightly chilled.)

For food, I always order the same thing... Nikko sushi B.  This gets me 5 pieces of sushi and a chef's choice roll.  Each meal also comes with the tiniest salad I have ever seen and a bowl of miso soup.  The fish is always fresh and tasty.  I have never been disappointed.  The portion is just right for me.  I know some people can inhale massive quantities of sushi as if it were cheap beer at a frat party, but that is not how I like to enjoy sushi.

The meal is ended with a small dessert of fruit or ice cream as chosen by the staff.  Sometimes they bring me both.
Occasionally I will order mochi if I am looking for more sweets.

Nikko is not a cheap place to eat and that is OK with me.  When it comes to eating raw fish, I am willing to pay for high quality.  The service is excellent as well.  I feel like I get what I pay for.

Each visit to Nikko ends with a heartfelt goodbye from the staff that makes you wonder when you will be able to come back and visit.  I will definitely be back.

Wow, the sushi here is extremely fresh and the service is great! When the sushi melts in your mouth then you know it's good. They even served us a plate of fresh lobster on the house! It doesn't get any better than that! It's decorated really cute so that gets another star. Overall, I would highly recommed this restaturant.

Totally recommend going on Saturday for lunch, all daily special rolls are half off! There was so many rolls that I wanted to try but there was such little time....and tummy room. The best Sushi place we have been to in the Chicagoland area.  We aren't sushi pro's, but we have tried 10+ places in the area, and this is the best by far.  The atmosphere was great, service was excellent!  We went during a busy time, and we received 2 free appetizers since we had to wait.  It came with soup, a small salad, and dessert.  The quality of the sushi was excellent, and the presentation was just divine.

I'm a hesitant 5-star reviewer, and I went back and forth from 5-star to 4-star. This is not the best sushi I've ever had, but definitely the best for the price, and probably the best in the area. I'm from Arlington Heights, and whenever I visit home I get sushi with one of my friends. We have always gone to sushi station simply because it is inexpensive and quick.  We decided to try something new last night and we are so glad that we tried Nikko. While it is a little more expensive, it is astronomically better, I tend to forget that sushi station isn't very good simply because I tend to remember the fun of the conveyor belt instead of the quality of the food. This will definitely be our new "go-to" place.
We went around 6:30, and didn't have to wait for a seat. The dining area looks small, but we didn't feel 'squished' at all. The service was quick and friendly. Everything was tasty and very fresh. I especially appreciate that the crab meat was actual crab meat and not "krab stick" imitation meat, it really makes a difference!!! Also, the rolls with crab weren't any more expensive than at other places with imitation krab. I eat sushi a LOT, and this was up to par with some of the higher end places that i've been, but it was a very good value, our bill came out to only $33 (we didn't get drinks). We didn't know about the complimentary soup, (tiny) salad & dessert, and we also got a one-bite appetizer. We ended up getting way too much food and couldn't finish it all!!
If you're looking for something new, I'd definitely give this place a try. They have a lot more than just your average sushi place; as we were looking around the dining room there were so many amazing-looking plates that I wanted to steal a bite off of!!! Its probably more suited toward an experienced sushi eater, it might be overwhelming for someone trying it for the first time.

It's located in a small strip mall next to the old Blackie's.  The place is a little tight and appears small, but there are tables on both sides of the entrance.  The staff is quite welcoming when you come in and gave us a choice where we wanted to sit.

I had been here before and a friend knew one of the staff so we got some extras.  Well, let me tell you, I think everyone knows someone who works there.  We went through the long menu and finally decided on 3 rolls for the 2 of us.  Our order came with decent miso soup and a small salad, but that was followed by 2 slices of a new hot appetizer that had fish inside of a fried spring roll.  There was also boiled scrambled eggs in a traditional Korean hot pot.

The rolls were presented nicely and differently.  One set was presented on a narrow tray with black sesame seeds while another was in a circle.  The other was in the traditional 6 pieces laid out on its side.  The soft shell crab was fried nicely while the fluke on top had a buttery texture.  The eel was cooked properly while the spicy tuna on top wasn't overly sauced.  At the end, they gave a small dessert of green tea ice cream and a taste of chocolate cake.  The prices were quite reasonable and service was always attentive.  It's a nice place to try out in the suburbs!

We feel their prices on some rolls are just a little bit high, but other than that you will definitely not be disappointed here.

Tonight was our first visit to Nikko. Definitely the best sushi in the area. We tried two of their house special rolls, a traditional eel roll and the spicy cod soup. We were pleasantly surprised with an amuse bouche at the beginning of the meal, complimentary salad, another complimentary tasting (spring roll) from the chef, and complimentary fresh pineapple and banana bites with a tiny bit of ice cream. Multiple people waited on us -- making sure we had everything we needed. The pace of the meal was good too. Also, this place was super cute/cheerful. Nikko is a new favorite and we look forward to our next visit there!

We were pretty hungry so we did a yelp search and found this place.

I went with a large group of cousins and they accommodated us quickly.  We all ordered a bunch of rolls - their variety was pretty large.  I forget what kind of roll it was, but they brought us one for free which I thought was nice.  Some of the pricing was a little high in my opinion too.

I have to say that none of the rolls sticks out in my mind.  The place is good, service is nice, but I probably won't visit back anytime soon.

Those of you who follow my reviews will know I am extremely picky about my sushi restaurants...And yes, this one gets five stars.

I had been hunting for a good sushi restaurant since I left the city and this place is awesome.  Not only that, but they have great lunch special deals.

The head sushi chef is really innovative and I've at times just ordered, "whatever he wants," and have yet to be disappointed.  This place is sooooo good that I hauled all my cousins and siblings up there over the holidays and we had a ridiculous amount of food over lunch.

Seriously, this is as good as it gets.  Great rolls, great korean food, great sashimi and great service.

A friend and I found Nikko Sushi through Yelp while on a recent trip to Chicago. Thank you Yelp reviewers!!! We had a fantastic meal and enjoyed the intensely friendly service. We probably should have read the reviews a little more closely as we did not realize how large the portions would be OR that we would get free soup, salad, small appetizers and desserts. We definitely ended up with too much food, but everything was delicious and our meal was very reasonably priced. We are already planning another trip to Chicago and a meal at Nikko Sushi will definitely be on the itinerary!

Look, the food is OK. Nothing blew me away.

People like this place because of the service and the freebies. Which is not a bad reason to like this place.

Would I make this place a regular? Yes. Yes, because the people are friendly and all the perks they have to get you to come back. Your own chopsticks on the regular wall once you walk in and all the free side dish or app they give you.

If I don't feel like cooking and wanted a basic home cooked korean style meal,  Nikko would be top of mind.

I'm so torn writing this review. These people are so friendly and awesome. I read the reviews and all about all the free stuff they give you and I was like whatev, I'm getting take out so that's not relevant to me. I have been to my fair share of sushi places and most of them do free miso. Ok not most, but quite a few. Some give free edamame. Some of them even have some other freebies thrown in. But none do any of these with the take out orders. These folks did it up in that regard. Miso, two bite appetizer type tempura-ed roll AND well ok, I thought there was something else but now I can't remember so eff it, there was free stuff in my takeout order and that was awesome.

So on to the food. Which really is the most important part. Wakame salad (which was oddly called Kaiso salad but it was really just regular old seaweed salad and I'm your average whitey so I really don't know the difference) was really good and served with crab (nope, not crab, Krab, again...whatev) and some pieces of tamago. That was unexpected and kind of cool. I also got the seared tuna on top of a spicy crap roll - that was pretty good also but for me it's really about the freshness of the fish. I got the Chicago roll to test that out - it had salmon, white fish and tuna. And there's where the difficulty started. The fish wasn't bad. It wasn't fishy and off tasting. It didn't make me sick or make me angry or anything. It just wasn't all that awesome. So while the rest of the experience was pretty great, just average fish at a sushi place was really not so fantastic.

I highly recommend this establishment, great friendly service, inviting atmosphere, and phenomenal food.  Some of the best Sushi in the burbs.  I have tried, many a different places from out of town, in the area and in the city and by far this is my favorite.  Fresh fish, great appearance of the dishes and creative all around a great place to come and enjoy great food.  Freebies are also welcome and prevalent.  The other night i went there and actually the Chef served my my dishes and i got to talk to him for a while.  I consider myself a regular, since i visit at least once a week and presentation and the food is always prepared to perfection.
I highly recommend others to try this place, for a great time.

I love Nikko's Sushi Bar! I am very particular when it comes to sushi but this sushi is done right! The staff is so friendly and makes you feel at home. The atmosphere is very cozy and if you are a regular they will give you your own pair of chopsticks to keep at the restaurant! The rolls are very reasonably prices and fresh! All rolls have fun and tasty sauces and are extremely well presented :) Love this place!!

    6/28/2010 1 Check-in Here

My husband and a coworker have been coming here for some time because of their daily lunch special. I had Friday off from work so I made the trek to Arlington Heights to have lunch with them.

The moment you walk in, everyone greets you with enthusiastic Hellos. I mean, it could border obnoxious with the greeting you receive. But, at other places the greeting is almost nonexistent so I'll take this as a make up for all of those places. We all ordered the daily special which was the lobster roll and I ordered gyoza as well. We all got miso soup, small salad, a tasty free roll, the special and fruit with mochi ice cream at the end. The price of all that food is $8. Yes, you read correctly. $8 for that meal. Now, it's not big portions but you definitely leave satisfied. The service is great and everyone is just so friendly!

I would come back for dinner and try other items that I saw being served at different tables. Also, if you are a regular here, you get your own chopsticks that are lined up on the wall with your name on it. You use those chopsticks when you dine. My friend Doug is working on that as we speak.

The service and sushi are great! I come here regularly for my lunch break. The fish is very fresh and the rolls are presented beautifully. This is a 'Korean' sushi place, and they also have other Korean dishes on the menu if you are not feeling like sushi.
They have a very modest sushi bar and smally dining area, but it's very clean and the service is very freindly!

I am in love with Nikko.  So are my my three friends. We have a crew that goes every few weeks  and we haven't had a roll that wasn't good. All their roles are  flavorful and they serve a soup and salad  on the house to start  out with and end with on the house ice cream  :)  the customer service is amazing.

Highly Recommended!  My friend and I found this sushi place using Yelp during a recent trip to Chicago.  The staff is very friendly and was attentive during our meal.  We ordered several sushi rolls and also received soup, salad and a small dessert, as well as a sample of another roll that was on the menu.  I wish I lived closer because Nikko would become a regular dining out spot for me.  It will definitely be on my "must go to" list the next time I'm in the area.

Recommend Bibimbob stone bowl. A Korean style rice bowl that cooks the rice, vegetables and meat at the table as you stir it. Excellent!

They also have a great sushi selection. The service is very very good !

Fresh sushi, incredible wait staff. Lots of freebies!
I've been eating sushi for at least 15 years and there's a handful of places that have that incredibly fresh fish taste. Nikko is one of them. The fish was so fresh that it was sweet and there was just the lovely light smell of sea to it.

The wait staff was by far the most friendly and attentive staff ever.

    I highly recommend this!

Read through the other reviews for details about the free dishes and friendly service...

Our party of three ordered five large specialty sushi rolls and drinks, and with the salad, soup, fruit, and dessert our bill came to $49 and change. We were STUFFED and fought over who had to eat the last piece. Normally a meal of that calibre would set us back an extra twenty bucks.

Next time we'll ask for them to skip the drizzle of mayonnaise on the special sushi rolls, which weren't advertised on the menu. (But I really should have remembered that Americanized mayo-abomination is unfortunately par for the course at mainstream restaurants.)

We'll go back again to try the more traditional sashimi, and delve into the Korean portion of the menu.

    An Asian Costco!!!!

Ok no joke!  I seriously felt like I was at Costco on a Saturday bc they gave us soooo many give aways.  I think it did help that some of my table were repeats, either way I wasnt complaining.  The comps were free but honestly they were soooo tasty!  Miso soup was one of the better ones and it was free!  Their simple house salad was so refreshing the hint of orange I was grasping accented it perfectly.  The Nikko's house special roll was the 3rd comp and it was a tasty lightly fried app covered in a great chili sauce.   Ok that was the start of the comps bc now a meal that I actually paid for comes.  :)

Even though, this is mostly a sushi joint, they are Korean owners.  That serve Korean entrees as well.  I just couldnt turn down a stone bowl.  Spicy Squid Stone Bowl was my choice.  Bibimodo and short rib were other dishes ordered and all were great, mine was the best!  Piping hot stone bowl served w/ rice, lettuce, cabbage, and squid in a spicy sauce.  What a tasty treat!  A simple mix of all this tasty goodness and the food will stay FUEGO, until your last bite.  Where you get the best scrumfabulous!  part of this dish is when you are almost done and you scrap all the yummy burnt rice at the bottom of the bowl that absored all the flavors married to the bottom of it.  The best bites were the last bites.  Hands down the best stone bowl I've had so far!

During the meal was more comps....Spicy Tofu in that spicy chili sauce!  Brocolli crab salad and steamed egg souffle.  I was the white boy getting VIP treatment like I was korean.  lol  And they still werent done!

Dessert was a slice of banana w/ chocolate sauce and whip cream.  Just enough for everyone to have a bit and then a very small scoop of ice cream.  Everything just had sooo much flavor and hit the spot w/ every bit.

The service is over exceptional and the food is just as good.  This place does it the way every restaurant should be!

The best thing is you dont even need to pay a membership fee to join this Asian Costco!   :)

I don't recall ever being so impressed with a sushi restaurant before. I lived in Southern California for over three years, and this sushi place tops any where I've gone down there!

Bob (the main sushi chef, who unfortunately is leaving to go to a new Sake bar down the road in a few days) is absolutely amazing, SO talented. They are very friendly there, and they are always throwing free appetizers, dessert, etc. your way. After your 2nd visit, they give you a pair of your own personalized chopsticks with your name printed on the box.

I always used to order simple sushi rolls: spicy tuna, Philadelphia, Boston roll, etc.
I started trying a variety of new things thanks to Nikko's and their friendly staff. I tried octopus, shrimp head, Japanese oysters, sea urchin, eel, etc. My meals there are always absolutely delicious, and I go there at least once a week.

I recommend the California Sunset roll, rainbow roll, 911 roll, their eel sashimi, shrimp head, as well as anything spicy.

    Way to go Nikko's :)
