Travelling the Wasatch Front as part of my job, I found this place in my flight pattern, 'back to work' drive.  I had never tried frozen custard before I lived in Utah, and quite honestly, the term 'frozen custard' didn't foster any attractive visuals for me.  So when I finally stopped in on a hot summer afternoon, about 2 years ago, it was only out of curiousity and because there were often lots of people in line.  They have a drive up window, and I stopped and got a very small Chocolate Almond, which was a  special flavor, not available every day.  I got a very small one, as they are a little pricey.  I LIKED!  The texture is what is different - it is 'packed', or maybe the better word is "dense".  Very tasty and different texture from ice cream, but different in a good way.  Hard to describe.  I was surprised at the limited choice of flavors (chocolate, vanilla and one special flavor), but you can have mix-ins which they label 'concrete' and toppings.  I call the texture itself concrete.  Maybe making concrete texture is hard work and you can't have multiple flavors if you get interesting texture.  Frozen custard is lower in calories and butterfat than ice cream. It has a little bit of egg in it to give it a good, smooth texture.  Ice cream also has a lot of air whipped into it.  Somehow, it seems richer to me - so a small tiny amount is all I can eat.  but it is delicious.  If the lines are not bad, I might stop in.  Worth a try, if only for a local curiosity experiment.  I read that Neilsen's has been in business a long time, and frozen custard is quite popular back east.

Update:  Really HOT out, so I tried it again a few days ago.  Had a bit of a wait in line, got a tiny raspberry (special flavor of the day) ($1.80) with a hot fudge topping.  Wowser.  Really good.

Frozen custard evokes the sensation of a rich, thick and very tasty concoction, laden with butter fat with a sensual mouth feel.  The frozen custard here smashed that visual and sensation to pieces.  My hubby said that we should try it again considering my last okay experience in St George.  We ordered a chocolate oreo concrete (a shake).  There was no good mouth feel and it certainly was not a sensual, delightful experience.  It was just okay and probably not worth the calories ingested.  Plus they used a cheap version of oreos, probably hydrox or something like that.  My hubby even said that it was not as good as St. George.

The lines at this very small (almost hut) location were extremely long.  The machine was not functioning properly and I watched a young woman with a wrench try to get it going.  The noises the custard machine made sounded like something was going to explode and shower us in vanilla and chocolate custard (like a Willy Wonka movie).  They were out of of some topping and the long line groaned - must be a favorite of these folks.  This place has limited outdoor seating and the parking lot is very small.

Try something else....don't waste your time in these long lines.
