I had the Gyro Plate. It was okay. The pita bread was pretty good, unfortunately the meat was the standard "steakum" style ready made Gyro meat found in most places which has become the standard in the U.S. I long for the freshly sliced lamb from the slowly rotating layers of meat roasting as it turns. If there was a restaurant or even a stand somewhere in town that served the traditional "real" style Gyro, I would go there A LOT!

If anyone knows of what I speak and knows of a place that serves the "freshly sliced" Gyro in town or in the outlying areas, please message me.

I went in for a quick lunch several times.  Most people are here just for that - a quick lunch.  Tucked on a side street south of the casino area and near Liberty Street (more office-like), this is the Greek equivalent of a sit-down Italian place to grab a panini for lunch.  And, yes, the dominant colors are blue and white, just like the Greek flag.  This deli features reliable good food, reasonable prices, and friendly service.  What more can one ask for?   If you need to lunch alone or with another person (since the shop is small) and you want to avoid the microbreweries, a casino or a dive in that immediate area, this is an excellent alternative!

Thank you guys for suggesting this place as one of the less expensive places to eat in the Midtown area! I ordered a gyro sandwich to go ,I was on my way to work. In the bottom of the to go box they had a salad. The gyro was on a paper on top of that. It was loaded with meat, tomatoes, cucumbers, and tzatziki sauce! It was alot of food for 5.50!  I look forward to going back when I have the time to sit and eat what I order there! It was quite tasty. The tzatziki sauce was thiner and had less dill flavor than what I am used to but it was still good. The other dishes that I saw served while I was waiting for mine to be made looked very good and I want to try them also.   The service in this little family run restaurant is excellent! They do a great job on the food and service! If you judge a restaurant on the decor do not come here as that is not the focus here! I will be going back for more!

The food is very good, but definitely not "quick", so be prepared to wait a little while. If you have time then you should be happy with this place :) Very flavorful and well-priced.

Found this when searching for a Deli as we were traveling thru Reno.  Excellent food.  Stopped in with the family.  Found the place and it definitely would be considered a "hole in the wall."

I have respect for a restaurant that only puts on their menu what they do well.  Nicks is a perfect example.  It has 6-8 items on the menu and we ordered 3 of them.  All three were done to perfection.

    We will definitely be back.....

I love this deli!  The menu is small but it doesn't matter because I already know what I will be ordering when we go here, the gyro plate & it's only $5.50!  That is the same price I'd pay for a fast food lunch, but a million times better.  $3.50 for 5 dalmas w/ tzatziki sauce.  Canned soda for $1.  The portions are generous, they don't skimp on the tzatziki sauce.    The salad that comes on the side of most of their meals is big and has a tasty herb vinaigrette.

The deli is small and plainly decorated but I couldn't care less about that, it's probably why their food is so afforable.  It's cool in there in the winter so bring a sweater or coat.  It is across the street from a strip club... if it weren't for yelp we would have never checked out this place.

This is a go-to place for lunch for my family if we are in reno.  I can't wait til we go again.

Limited seating but pretty quick turn around since its the business lunch crowd it can get Busy at lunch on a weekday. You'll find just a few things on the menu but think quality over quantity. good gyros(tasty and well seasoned).  Really affordable. great service

I can rate this place four stars now. The food has always been four stars for me. I love gyros and they're pretty simple to do. You get the meat shipped from that place in Chicago that pretty much has a monopoly on the business, you buy fresh pitas, add vegetables and your own tzatziki sauce. The tzatziki sauce is the hard part and they do a good one at Nick's. Except they used too much on my gyro. Look at the photo. Next time, I'll ask for the tzatziki sauce on the side.
Where they used to fall down miserably was the service. It seems like they used to take forever and they didn't care. I haven't been there for a while and I went today. Service was prompt and friendly. So it's a good experience all the way around.
The salad included with the gyro was tasty. Nice variety of soda at $1 a can, too.

Thank you Reno for having at least one go to place for great gyros!!! They do have the loaf style shaved lamb meat mix(which is perfectly seasoned deliciousness) on the vertical rotisserie. I mention that cause so many places use the pre-made, pre-sliced gyro meat. Small place, four or five small tables for dining in. Canned soda only. Something to keep in mind when ordering if you want the standard gyro sandwich, the gyro plate and royal plate serve the gyro meat, tzatziki sauce and pita bread sliced separately w/ those two plates. So specify you'd like the sandwich as opposed to everything separate with those plates. Great prices, great portion! Just great gyros!!! As we were leaving little old lady managing the place noticed my 2 yr old daughter trying to put her jacket on and helped her get it on. Definitely be going back for more!

I actually live two blocks from this place, but wasn't able to check it out till recently, as I work on the wrong end of town to make it here for lunch.

I didn't dine in, but the place was super intimate.  Definite mom-n-pop type operation, with the kitchen visible to your left as you come in, and office adjacent to that, and a few tables in the small room.  There was one larger booth in the back, and then a half-dozen tables, a mix of two's and four's, packed pretty close together.  Lots of hand written signage, amateurish looking menus, etc, but these traits gave the place character, as opposed to making it feel like a dive.

I did a to-go order of the gyro sandwich.  Came in a styrofoam container, with a generous serving of lamb on a fluffy pita, drenched in tzatzki.  The rest of the container was filled with a salad (mainly iceberg and tomato, some feta, with dressing on the side).  I was a little surprised when the total was $6 (menu said $5.50), but didn't realize this till after signed, and didn't think to ask about it . . . not sure if the menu is out-dated, or if it was a to-go surcharge . . .

Anyway, the food was great.  The salad complimented the gyro sandwich nicely.  The gyro itself was generously filled, and the onions, lamb, cucumber, and tomato all blended together perfectly.  The only criticism I might level against the sandwich would have been the amount of tzatziki - there was just so much of it.  Deliciously decadent.

    A great value for lunch . . . makes me wish I worked downtown . . .

i am very confused about the reviews here - my experience was that the food was sort of gross - that's what i remember gross food and gross atmosphere. Horrible location. I don't know, maybe it was an off day for them or my palette.

If your overall dining experience includes aesthetics then I could understand a lower than 5 star rating.  However, I am not one to judge a book by it's cover so Nick's Greek Deli gets all five!  Best Gyros in Town, without a doubt.

The actual Deli looks is like a Diamond in the rough. Seriously... it's located across the street from a strip club and sort of in the middle of downtown Reno's finest (sarcasm!). Before I found Nick's about a year ago, I had been going to Opa, because it was the only place in Reno I knew where to get a gyro. I remember the day I tried Nick's Greek Deli for the first time better than I remember landmarks in my life ie: graduation. This is hands down the best gyro in town and the price is unbeatable. For under 6 bucks you get an amazing gyro with some of the best gyro meat I've ever tasted topped with a heaping portion of tzatziki and a side salad. I've even taken my friend who is from Greece to lunch here and she is amazed. I highly recommend Nick's Greek Deli!

I have been eating lately at restaurants with decor that could mislead you into thinking the food is mediocre, but in fact is quite good (see my recent review of the Cactus Creek steakhouse at the Bonanza casino).  Nick's Greek Deli is located near downtown across the street from the  Wild Orchid strip club on So. Virginia.  This place is literally a hole in the wall.  You have to really look for the entrance because it is so nondescript.  The interior is super casual with magazine pictures of Greece hung on the walls, and Greek bouzouki music playing softly in the background.  However, don't go to Nick's for the decor, but instead go for the food.  The food is fresh and of good quality.  The selection is more limited than Opa Greek subs and espresso located by Costco, but the quality is superior.  Five stars for the best gyros sandwiches in Reno.  Please note that they only accept cash, no credit cards.

Good food, lousy service. If you call ahead, they will tell you it will be ready in 20 minutes. Once you get there, you will have to wait another 20 minutes for them to actually make your food. So, they have good food, but be ready to wait a long time to get it.

I LOVE this place. The gyros are amazing, as are the salads, tzatziki, and probably everything else on the menu I haven't tried yet. The service is great, and the owners will make sure you never leave hungry. I ate here recently with a group of people from work and the food just kept coming out, family style! Amazing all-around.
