I came here on a Monday night and was pleasantly surprised.  I had read the reviews but really, how are you ever to believe that a sports bar would have clean bathrooms!!  They were immaculate.  Not that this is a reason to go, but wow.  I'm still impressed.
Other reasons this place deserves my four stars:
-they serve food..good food
-really nice bartender
-great ambiance
-take credit cards which is something you appreciate when you hail from the mission bar scene
-Monday night game where its possible to win $ (I didn't, but oh well)
I want to see what this place is like on the weekends before I go for the fifth star.  I will be back!

Don't go here. This place sucks. I want to keep it all to myself. Wait, was that last sentence out loud? Crap.

Nickies. Is. Awesome. An unexpected gem in the Haight, it's arguably the cleanest sports bar in SF with a great beer/drink selection and hands down, some of the best mac and cheese in the city. Smoked gouda?! Yes please!! Their other food is good too, but the mac and cheese is addictive. My friend wanted to start showing up with tupperware so she could bring it home (seriously, I hope she does it so I can steal the tupperware from her).

Go to Nickies (but I'd really prefer if you didn't so I could keep it all to myself!).

This is the best sports bar in the city. Always clean and the service is great. It has a local lower haight feel and good beers. Although they should get the poppy Jasper on tap soon if they really wanna blow us away. Good eats, though those good eats are overpriced.  Their burger is decent and chicken Sammy is bomb- excellent fries.

Don't order the wings or the fish and chips - nasty and had weird gray all over them.

Flat screens all over- great surround sound for the football games,  also it gets good light in the front and can go pretty dark if you're in the back. Feels cozy and like your neighborhood awesome bar.

Fried chicken here last night was among some of the worst I've ever had.  It was so dry and flavorless that no amount of gravy could help.  Add to this that the mashed potatoes were served somewhere between room temp and cold, and you have quite the ripoff for $12.50.  To quote my friend who had the same dish "KFC would have been much better."

The cleanest SF bar I've been to in years, perhaps ever, if I may be so bold.  All clean.  Bathrooms, floors, red vinyl seats, wooden benches, bar counter, paint job outside.  Clean as clean can be!  Cleaner!
Full bar, good whiskey, Magner's, Irish wait person, numerous high def monitors.  Watched the world series last night and was so impressed by the place.  An island of sparkle in the east of Fillmore lower Haight.  That's encouraging.  I haven't tried brunch yet, but that mimosa special is sending me a siren call!
It's hella clean in Nickies!

Sometimes you want a good beer, want to watch some sports, and you don't feel like pondering how much the skinny guy at Toronado weighs and if he is sick or just driven by heroin.

So you end up here, and you are happy with the decision because you are drinking good beer, eating good food, and not worrying about ordering another beer from the skinny guy at Toronado.

The boy and I went here to watch sunday football and have breakfast yesterday.  We got there around 11:30am for food and drinks, and were excited to find out that brunch included bottomless mimosas until 2pm!  At this point I thought that I had found THE sunday bar, where I could order decent food, watch the games, and have the bottomless mimosas which we all love on a sunday morning:)

We ordered our food and mimosas, and were having a pretty good time.  I will admit that the waitresses were very attentive during the first part of our visit and we were very happy with the customer service.

Once one o' clock rolled around, we were about 4-5 mimosas deep.  We started noticing that the waitresses, who had stopped by our table every 20 minutes to see how we were doing had suddenly started acting like we weren't there.  We thought that maybe they had run out of mimosas, but we saw them serving (and giving refills) all the other patrons except us-- even the guys sitting right besides us!  After about a 30 min wait (it was around 1:30ish), we signaled to a waitress and asked her for a mimosa refill.  She nodded as if she noticed us, but went around her way serving all the other patrons and refilling THEIR glasses promptly.  Finally, once 1:49pm hit, she came by our table to FINALLY bring us our drinks.  At this point, we were irritated at the good customer service we had failed to experienced here and were ready to hit another bar.  We signaled for the check, which they noticed almost IMMEDIATELY, and then PROMPTLY brought us our check.  We really got the feeling that they wanted us to clear out of there so they could sit another table and rack up their tips.

I understand that they have a profit margin to meet, but PLEASE do not advertise BOTTOMLESS MIMOSAS if they are not really going to be bottomless! Unfortunately for this establishment, we had a bunch of friends who were going to meet up with us for the 49ers game at around 2pm, who were ready to DRINK up a storm, as were we.

Thank GOD we took our business somewhere else!

WOO! so as a new lower haighter...i was over-joyed with excitement to find that three blocks away is a Full sports Bar/DJ & live music/delicious food joint. I went to Nickies on a sunday afternoon to watch some football with friends. I was starving and ordered the Chipotle chicken sandwich with bacon and a side of mixed greens. it was REALLY GOOD. not your average bar food...my sister and friends ordered the steak sandwich, veggie burger, apple blue cheese cole slaw, wings, and fries...as a standard taste tester for all...everything met my high expectations...the wings however could have been bigger with better sauce, but everything else was great.

They played almost all the football games on different screens, so take your pic!...beer selection was good...they had two of my favs, which are sometimes rare to be on tap: Hoegarden and Smithwicks, of which I had about 6 pints of :)

Wait Service was the only thing that was slow, but it was sunday funday and the bar was pretty packed with football Nazis. If this is a problem, you can always walk up to the bar and order from the bartender.

Also, apparently they have DJ's certain nights during the week (def on friday) and live Irish bands play Sunday nights...i love it!

As this is one of the only bars which serves liquor on Haight...thank you Nickies for being there for me! :)

All my close friends were in town for the PARADOX LIVE PA next door at Underground SF. We decided to stop by Nickies for some pre-party drinks and it came recommended by DJ Angst. We all had beers, some shots of tequila and Grey Goose/Cranberry. Strong pour on the drinks from very nice bartenders. Def check out the happy hour action. They got DJ's too. Some girl DJ was cutting up old school hiphop while we were there. Not bad.

solid. They have some of the coldest beers on tap in the city, which I dig. Also a good brunch menu as well as a respectable dinner menu. But the thing that KILLS it is the new deal they have-- $7 bottomless mimosas 10-2pm on saturdays and sundays w/ purchase of brunch item.

Walked in for a mellow brunch on sunday before going outside lands, not knowing about this deal. After my boyfriend asks "wait, she can really drink ALL she wants??" and bartender responded with "well...I doubt she could drink that many without falling off her chair..." I had to retaliate. So, at 3 o'clock we stumbled in to OL for less than the price of one puny brewsky.

stoked. But lets not crowd up the bar now.

Service: B
The cute bartender always kept my glass full.

Value: B
I found this place much more affordable in comparison to the many downtown bars I frequent.

Ambiance: B
I guess I must have been there when it was only locals because everyone seemed to know each other. Gotta love places like this!

This place has changed A LOT over the last few years. I remember back when it was really divey and it had an incredible Asia, African, Arabian nights. The music was great.

Anyway - I stopped coming here a few months ago after walking in and not being able to hear myself think. The music was insanely loud and there were only like 4 ppl at the bar and like 2 dancing.

I decided to take a chance on Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised. They now serve all kinds of alcohol and not just beer, wine and Soju. They also serve food! That's def new.I had just come from dinner so I haven't tried anything yet, but def will next time around. The table next to us had some wings that looked scrumptious!

The DJ was also great on Saturday. I guess it was top 40 but he somehow mixed in 80's pop and new wave and even some classic rock in and it totally worked. This place needs a dance floor though for real.

I don't know what it is w/ this place and the super loud music. It was like 11pm hit and all of a sudden it got really loud. That's fine if there's dancing, but if everyone's just hanging out talking it def could be a little lower.

My new favorite sports bar.

Dead on Sunday's - PERFECT if you want your own big screen TV.  Everything looks pretty spanking new:  clean floors check.  clean tables check.  clean bathroom.  CHECK.

Has a progressive but not quite committed Irish pub feel - full stock of spirits and beer.  Lots of solid draft beers.  And most importantly, lots of drink specials.

They boast a late night menu served til 1AM.

The wings needs some work - some scrawny chicken wings up in here.  The jambalaya was pretty good - came in an iron skillet with plump whole shrimp and andouille sausage.  The mac and cheese was pretty bomb - had the nice creamy texture and that au gratin baked cheese crisp on top.  Legit.

Super private, new, and a real cool wait staff.  What more do you need?

Pretty cool spot.  I like to come here for the food.  I love the fact that when i am drinking, i can order some food.  And its not just regular bar food, its actually real food.

And the service is pretty on top of things.  The bar is pretty clean and has a sort of lounge like feel to it.  And they even have DJ's on certain nights.  I have yet to be here when it was crazy packed, so thats good.  Less waiting time for me to drink.

This was one of the stops on my MAC & CHEESE MARATHON and thank god we did cause it was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I just heard about it last week and already had my route but since it was so close to memphis minnie's we added it in last minute.  We ordered it togo and ate it at noc noc along with the mac and cheese from mephis minnie's and Nickies blew it out of the water!!!!! We only gave out 2 five stars and this was the other one....This was perect!!!!!! The balance of cheese to mac ratio, the texture, i mean everything was just awesome, and it was just mac and cheese!!!! I can't wait to go back here and get some more!!!!!!!! The smoked gouda was an excellent addition for cheese choice!  It made it taste like it had bacon but wit h out the bacon! NIce job!!!!  It was unanimous by all of my friends that is was 5 stars!!!!!

Thank u!!!!!!!

What a nice surprise along Haight, right at Fillmore. Just a hop, skip, and jump away from the 6,7, 71 and 22 lines. There's a long bar to sit at, tables along the wall or even the tables in the back. Brunch on weekends is nice [food's okay], but the REST of their food is just as tasty, if not better. We've tried the Mini Niman Ranch Burgers and the Mac and Cheese from the regular menu. Yum! Hooray for full kitchens.

I've never seen Nickies at night, but I am excited to give it a shot. The weekly line-up of music played intrigues me:

Electronic Trip Hop on Tuesdays.

Drum n Bass on Wednesdays.

House, Disco, and Chunky Grooves on Saturdays.

Live Irish Music on Sundays.

It all sounds fun to dance to.

Just a note - The women's restroom is in the back. The men's is at the end of the bar behind the curtain.

If you're looking for a bar to unwind after a grueling day at work, Nickie's is the place to be.
This clean and relaxing bar calms your every nerves with the help of the friendly bartender whom ofcourse I cant remember her name.
Drinks are reasonably priced and dosage are up to par.
Bathrooms are well kept.  Very important for I will be taking numerous trips after consuming lots of beers and ctails.
There are TVs for the games and also a DJ on some nights.
This place never gets too crowded which is good if you need a night of good convo and buzz.

I pass by this place almost every day on my way to work.  After reading the great reviews, I decided to stop in on a Friday after work.  Drinks here are pretty reasonably priced and the atmosphere is nice and chill, perfect for a Friday.  We had the fried calamari and mac & cheese to start.  I liked the fried calamari, though for the price I think Bean Bag is better.  The mac & cheese was good to me, but it tasted a lot better when I added hot sauce.  We split a fish & chips and the "jambalaya".  The jambalaya is more like gumbo, not that that's a bad thing, but you should know what you're ordering.  I'd definitely order the "jambalaya" again especially on a cold day in SF, it really hit the spot.  I'd skip the fish and chips just because they really absorb a lot of grease in the deep fryer more so than I've had at other places.  It's a great neighborhood place and I'll be back.

For cocktails we had a mango mojito and a bloody mary.  The bloody mary was super salty, and we had to ask them to take it back.  The waitress was super nice about it though and didn't charge us for it.  I always feel horrible sending things back, but she didn't make me feel bad at all.

Nickies is a go-to spot in the Lower Haight for a few drinks and well-made, high quality bar food.    I live in the Lower Haight and often use it as a meet-up spot with friends or to grab lunch mid-week.  The staff are attentive and friendly - especially if sitting at the bar.  In the evening, the crowd definitely gets more lively and they have a varied and regular rotation of DJs and live music all week.   There certainly is a large neighborhood crowd here, but also a good mix from outside the LH - everyone feels welcomed.  The complete remodel a few years back and the addition of liquor to its repertoire have really transformed Nickies for the better.

This place is a surprise hit. From the outside I wasn't expecting much. When I walked in I was pleased with the clean and cute interior. The bar was packed, with a very relaxed atmosphere. Just a bar full of people enjoying themselves, not attitudes or pretenses.

The drinks were OK, could have been a little stronger, but what are you going to do? The DJ is what really made the night. He was playing the jams that really got the party started, especially my guiltiest pleasure, "Damaged," by Danity Kane. (hahaha, DON'T JUDGE). Even though most people in the bar do not dance, who cares about them. Come here with a group of friends, get drunk and be somebody.

Nickies is my celebration spot - I went here for NYE and to see the election results. :)

The drinks are good and stiff. The service is nice and prompt. The food is tasty - but small - not so "American" as a lot of other restaurants. I wouldn't assume you'll have leftovers.

The DJs can be a bit much,  but they are perfectly suited to the hip atmosphere. Just don't sit too close to the speakers...

Yay for Nickies!  Yes, I'm a fan.  My boyfriend, a friend of ours and I headed over to Nickies for their election party.  The minute we stroll in Obama supporters are cheering and toasting the great victory.  We were just minutes too late to see the precise moment when Obama received the over 270 electoral votes, but we didn't care....we were witnessing history in the making.  We quickly ordered a beer, toasted to Obama and soaked in the scene and crowd.

Nickies epitomizes what one would expect of a Pac Heights/Haight Bar--not quite Marina or grunge hip either.  I like the sports bar turned wine and beer bar vibe.  Dark wood, chill vibe with lots of flat screens all around.  Second bar near the women's restroom is nice too.  The people seem friendly enough, but wonder if it's because I was surrounded by like-minded folk the night the first African American president was elected president.  (Could have something to do with it.)  In any case, the bartenders did a good job attending to the anxious folks at the bar, and there was plenty of room to sit and stand around and near the bar.

I didn't have any of the food that night, but it sure did look and smell appetizing.  The sliders were calling out my name, but alas, I ate a big lunch and dinner and couldn't have possibly given it the fair shake it deserved.  Next time, Nickies, next time...

I will be returning to Nickies as they have all my favorite beers on tap, and for the nights I feel more like wine or champagne, their selection for those is great too.  I won't lie, I do like the occasional vodka tonic or SoCo Lime shot in a dive bar or posh lounge, but for a more mellow night, Nickies has the right combination.

I had never boozed in the Lower Haight before the other night.

I would describe it as... eh... um... ecclectic. It's a different scene down there. I don't think I've ever seen dope smoked so freely on the streets before. There was s dude smoking a doobie by the door, and as we were leaving, some dudes were smoking a blunt on the sidewalk across the street.... totally casually.

Dope may not be my scene, but I suppose I'd return to this place. It's got kind of an Irish Hipster Fusion thing going on in there. On a Saturday night it wasn't really packed, but it was a comfortable bar. In the back up a couple stairs are a lounge alcove behind a DJ booth and another little alcove with a table and it's own HD TV. It was great, we had Sports Center on a loop for like 3 hours!

They had a great beer selection... meaning they had bottles of PBR, which I took full advantage of. They were on the pricey side (like $3.50/$4 apiece), but I'm glad they had it anyway.

The DJ action was strange... they were playing some sort of weird house/heroin industrial music, which I didn't take a shining to, but the group of weirdos in the alcove behind it were down. One dude had a bald head and dangling earrings... anywaaaaaay....

It wasn't a bad little joint. Not totally my scene (Haight in general), but I'd go back sometime.

I give this place a solid 4.5 maybe even a 5 for brunch. But until I come here to do some serious "drankin'" (Yelp elite calibur drinking honeys!) , I'm just going with the four.

So yeah, John H. and I meandered here on a Sunday stroll down Haight. You know, one of those great walks that has no particular purpose but to enjoy the day. Since football season is over, walking has consumed my Sundays. Anyway like any given Sunday, we were in the mood for brunch (along with most likely half of SF) but weren't in the mood for an hour wait. Hmm...a sign advertising brunch drew us in and though it wasn't crowded at 12:30 on a Sunday, let me tell you, this may be a secret gem when it comes to eating brunch without (a) emptying half your wallet, (b) eating tasty food and drinking even tastier drinks and (c) mingling with a good staff and good crowd; I'm pleased to report/yelp that Nickies excels in all three categories.

The atmosphere is equal parts Irish sports bar and Haight hipster without coming across obnoxious/ pretentious (not an easy feat). Nickie's has a large layout with lots of seating throughout the bar. Low tables, chairs and benches flank the front left sides of the bar while the bar and its stools lay along the right. Towards the back are some higher counters and stools (including this bitchin' counter that seats six right in front of a big screen TV). Low lighting compliments the dark wood and I have to say I'd give this bar three stars for the niceness of the bathroom alone. Go for yourself.

Brunch was a complete success for both of us. The huevos rancheros I ordered were a perfect balance of all components. The black beans and ranchero sauce were appropriately spicy, the eggs the right amount of runny and there was a healthy serving of both the avocado and potatoes. The tortillas sadly, were only 'eh'. But the Bloody Mary I had with my meal more than made up for that. The taste of black pepper was strong but not overwhelming. John got an egg scramble chock full of veggies topped with mushrooms and cheese along with his always enjoyed Big Daddy. The scramble was a hefty size and he claimed that all the veggies had a nice crunch and flavor to them. Our server was all decked out for the Sunday before St. Patty's Day complete with green glitter that was cute but not annoying. She was totally on top of her game so hooray for her. Both meals and drinks together cost well under thirty dollars and quite honestly felt like a steal.

But let me be honest, the whole brunch could have been ruined by one unintentional eyesore. You see, from my vantage point I was looking directly at large man ass crack. Yep, every time I looked over at my dining partner I was confronted by the tip of a blinding white moon. Now before you continue to wince/ laugh/ scream in terror, I do have to give the man some credit though. For starters there was no visible tufts of curly butt fur lingering about. Secondly, the guy was slightly aware of his fashion faux pas. He was considerate enough to hitch down his shirt in the back to the cover his plumber's smile but sadly, the shirt wouldn't stay. Ladies (and I use the term loosely with some of you- ha ha) haven't you ever been out only find the shirt/ pants you chose weren't quite cooperating with your body at the bar and you find yourself readjusting? That's what I thought.....Thirdly, I realized if I scooted over about a foot, I could use John's head as a shield from the view. Thanks hun.

So yeah, what could have killed a lovely happy brunch or a stellar Bloody Mary or conversation with good company didn't. In fact, the whole brunch experience all together made me see the bright side of a Sunday without football. Even though it's still a healthy five months away, I've learned that it doesn't mean I can't enjoy the most chill day of the week. Cheers!

The atmosphere is chill and really great ambiance.  The food was definitely comfort food and they even had grilled polentas that looked reeeeally delicious.  They were playing old school 80's music from Cutting Crew, Def Leppard, Eric Carmen and Van Halen.  With football season starting, I might just have to venture here for a beer and Sunday night game day!

Meh. I want to give this place a higher rating, but I've never really had a great time here. The music is deafening, even during happy hour when there are like four people there. Food is unimpressive. Beer selection is typical of SF (Lagunitas, Fat Tire, Anchor...), though I remember the PBRs being like 3 or 4 bucks...for realz?! Bartenders are nice and I've never had bad service. I can just think of a lot of better places in the neighborhood.

You know I kinda tend to forget about this place when trying to think of places to grab a drink. Once I am out I have the "ohhh yeahhhh" reaction and sometimes that is enough to get me inside.

Great place to grab a beer. Lots of seating and it's actually quite comfortable. I can't say much about the music but I've never been to one of their event nights either.

I do wish that they would pick one sorta genre and stick to it. Are you a sports bar? An Irish bar? A brunch joint? (I really don't recommend the brunch). I tend to like places that pick a theme and go for it. I have a hard enough time trying to pick out one place to go, a place that is different every time is doing me no favors.

I am head over heels in love with this place!

It is clean, not crowded, has $1 PBR happy hour, serves organic/sustainable meats for dinner, and it is a block from my house!!! Are you freakin' kidding me? All this time I've been trekking down to castro or danny coyle's to find a decent place to hang out (where I won't feel horribly out of place) and this den of heaven was right here!

I've been twice now - once for $1 PBR happy hour (what's not to like) and a second time for brunch, which was delicious! Rather than being a sucker and waiting in line for Kate's we just wandered over to Nickies and stuffed our faces with eggs, bacon, jambalaya, and mac and cheese. Everything was seasoned and cooked perfectly!

Update: we had dinner here last night - sliders and fried chicken. The fried chicken had too much cinnamon for me, but the burgers, fries, and mashed potatoes were perfection on a plate.

I love the randomness of the place and the fact that it's not too crowded. Just go.

Holy shit there are some hot people here on Friday nights. Maybe it's the 90s music putting me in a good mood.

I choose Nickies because of it's Yelp reviews and again, all the fabulous yelpers have come through and really hit the mark. I had drinks and snacks with some coworkers last weekend and we all really enjoyed ourselves.  The food was really tasty, especially the little burgers, yummy! Oooh and the garlic cheese fries were awesome. We had such a good time, will definitely come back. The service was fine, the prices were just right!

Had dinner here on a Thursday night.  Really cool, modern and simple decor..fun Southern menu...great beverage selection...and awesome 50's/60's dinner music!  I like the fact that they had sports on tv, but "Tracks of my Tears" pumping through the speakers.
Food-wise they offer mac and cheese, jambalaya, fried chicken, chipotle chicken sandwich, etc.  The jambalaya was the best at our table.  And any bar that serves a Hefeweizen, Bud Light AND PBR is A-OK in my book.

I'm confused.  If a whole park full of people gets kicked out of Alamo Square for shooting off fireworks at midinght on the Fourth of July, left to prowl the nearby streets for more booze and social intercourse, why is this most convenient option a ghost town?  Nickies is the type of place that wants so badly to be crowded and hopping (I gather this from the decor and DJ), maybe it's like a desparate woman throwing itself at the city?  One has to wonder if on most occasions those are the types to walk through the door.  I don't know, Nickie's, I don't know.

Good tap/wine/cocktail selection.  DJ was not so impressive with the tiresome Marley routine.

I'm a fan of Nickies. They have great "bar food"- yummy mac n cheese and sliders. The friendly bartender poured us stand-up cocktails which is always appreciated. Good spot to meet for a few adult beverages and some snacks.

Love, Love, LOVE my neighborhood bar!! Great beers on tap such as Stella, Big Daddy, Trumer Pils, Leffe, Hemp Ale, Smithwicks Ale, Sierra, and probably 10 others I forgot to mention. The service is great with Lexi running and managing the place. They have happy hour with 2 dollar pints and I think they even have 1 dollar Pabst during happy hour as well. Tons of European soccer and rugby on. Thursday late night we get awesome tunes from DJ Paz who brings old school hip hop, new school rap, a little house, and tons of oldies but goodies.

Rumor has it there are few weeks away from putting some great bourbon and scotch's up on their shelves. That's right. I think they will be receiving their liquor license in a few weeks. So get there now so they can remember your face for that special free birthday shot you so desire on your special day, when you get messy and no one cares because it's your birthday!

And I totally forgot to mention how great their fries are! Yummy goodness that pairs so well with your pint of ice cold beer!
