I've never met Lucille, but she makes some of the best meatloaf I've ever had! Seriously, order the meatloaf. Do it.
BIG ups to the waitress who totally knows what's up with good service. On one particular visit, the meal wasn't up to par - she took it back to the kitchen WITH A SMILE. I re-ordered soup and salad to replace the meatloaf that was as hard as a hockey puck, and guess what? She didn't charge me for that either!
I mean, I don't know how the cook let that plate out of the kitchen, but these things happen from time to time. It's how you recover from it that really counts.
Other than location, nothing to recommend this place. The food is OK, but uninspired.
But the big story on Action News is the drink prices. Happy-hour Manhattan: $9.25! I sh*t you not. This isn't the friggin' W Hotel.
First and last visit to this ripoff parlour.
There is ONE thing I ADORE about Washington amongst the other good things. That one thing: Dog Friendly. Nickerson Street Saloon does not have this. They have a large outdoor patio area similar to many other dog friendly WA. locations and yet was quickly dismissed unless we were dog free.
I wish I could comment on the food but although I live nearby I would rather drive somewhere my 5lb companion is allowed to enjoy the short-lived sunshine of this beautiful state with me.
Nickerson Saloon is one of those places I seem to forget about, but everytime I find my self there I have a great time. The food is good, nothing amazing, but overall the quality and quantity is fair and does what you need it to do. The beer line up is okay, I wish they rotated more. They always have a new beer of the month which is fun, but their other lineup is pretty stale. We really don't need anymore places with Mac and Jacks and Manny's on at the same time.
The service however has always been good. 99% of the time, the servers are friendly and responsive, and for me that goes a long way. I can put up with a lot if the service is solid.
I need to make sure I remember this place for my next happy hour gathering.
I'd driven past this place a thousand times and had never given it a second thought but now that the weather is warming up, I'm all over that patio. $3.50 pints during happy hour! And really delicious happy hour food! It's run of the mill pub grub - quesadillas, nachos, etc - but it hits the spot and is decently priced.
They've got a good beer selection, mostly local brew but if you just HAVE to show everyone around you that you don't give a flying f and that your lack of standards makes you superior to your deck companions, you can get a tallboy of Rainer or PBR.
Personally, my favorite aspect is watching the Fremont bridge go up and down. That's some good entertainment right there- I can easily while away 3 hours and some pints just watchin' that bridge, open and close, up and down, over and over and over....excuse me, I need to head over there right now.
When I was single I never noticed where the good places to meet guys was... but now that I'm no longer single I've figured it out. The Nickerson is a great place to meet guys! So all you single ladies - check this place out.
The patio is really the main attraction here. It sits near the Fremont bridge so you can hear the bells of the bridge going up and down while you sip your drink. The inside is nice, and I know they have a trivia night, but I tend only to come here when I know I can sit outside.
The beer list is long, the wine list is short. They make good drinks, I enjoy their gin and tonics as well as their margaritas.
The food can be a bit hit and miss. I enjoyed the mahi mahi tacos quite a bit, the quesadilla was ok, chicken and beef skewers good. Yesterday I had the mediterranean plate - hummus, cucumbers, warm pita and roasted garlic cloves (you have to ask for them - and you should!). It was the best hummus I've ever had, the pitas were delightful and the roasted garlic I could have eaten by the handful.
All in all a great place to go and hang out with friends and enjoy some Seattle weather. BONUS: You get to wave at people riding The Duck as they go by.
Con- BAD Bloody Maria's, actually questionable as to the ingredients.
Pro- Service is good. Food was good. I had the Mahi Mahi Tacos - I liked there was a good amount of fish on them! The portions were great for the cost....
People in general who go there are a friendly great crowd. I will be back!
This is a good ole' fashion pub in a great location next to the Fremont bridge. If you're in the mood for a beer and great pub food, this is the place to go.
Nothing beats the "Nick" on a warm sunny day! They have a HUGE outdoor patio with lots of seating ... everyone is in good spirits, drinking beer, and enjoying the weather.
Service can be a little spotty ... sometimes it's good, sometimes it's slow. It's such a laid back place, you hardly notice it though.
The only thing that really makes this the place to visit is the view of the Fremont bridge and the good crowd of people who tend to show up just to have a good time.
Their bar and selection of brews isn't any different from any other bar in the city, and the food is mediocre at best. So it's mainly just the outdoor seating and view that sells the place. I had the nachos...not too great.
I'd come back on a nice sunny day...but then, only if I happen to be in the area.
I was looking for a nice patio to sit and drink a beer (or two) with friends. I Yelped and found a few but a friend mentioned a tavern on the South side of the Fremont Bridge. Yea. I remember that place . . . but a patio? I remember a tiny bar with Seattle's best burgers . . . what was it called?
I drove up and parked right in front. It looked kinda the same but it was way different. A huge patio with lots of seating. The original tiny bar was there but now there was four times the space inside. What was it called?
I sat under an umbrella and had a beer from a selection of about a dozen tap micro brews at about $4.50. They have beer for $2.50 and a monthly special for $3.50. They had some good appetizers on their menu. I went for the sampler that included 2 chicken skewers, 1 beef skewer, 4 pot stickers and homemade hummus with pita bread. A lot of food for $10. And it was all tasty. The hummus was a little dry and the peanut dip was a little bland but the hot dip for the pot stickers was great. "What was this place called?
The Fremont bridge went up a half dozen times, you could just glimpse Lake Union. The sun was warm and hitting 82 in the shade. The beer was cold and I finished off some work email before the long weekend. Life could be worse.
My friends showed up and said "It sure doesn't look like the old '318' does it?" That was it! The 318! We all had stories about their burgers and the lines sometimes to get them. I asked where that name came from. One said it had something to do with the number of troops and horses you could cram into a rail car in WW-I. Another said no - it had to do with the 318 WW-II fighter squadron. I logged in to write this review and find out its the address, 318 Nickerson. The other stories were more exciting. I don't think I'll tell them . . .
Go. Try it out. The service was excellent too!
I came here after a long day of skiing looking for some cold beer and good pub food. I almost found all of that at Nickerson. We showed up on a Saturday night around 8ish and there was plentiful seating for six in their main dining room.
The on-tap list was well represented with NW micros and other standard domestics. I had the Rogue 'Deadliest Ale' on draft, which was mighty tasty.
For food, we all shared an appetizer that had a lot of everything - pita bread, hummus & feta, pot stickers, and beef & chicken skewers. Even though it was a interesting combination, it was a welcome sight to a tired skier. For my entree I ordered the Fish & Chips, hoping that I could match Ivar's or The Pacific Inn. It was a valiant effort, but they were not up to the challenge. The fish was flaky and good, but the breading was flavorless and too greasy. Their tartar had too much mayonnaise in it, giving it a bland flavor.
The service was prompt and the server was nice, which still makes Nickerson another solid addition to the Fremont (or right across the bridge) pub scene. I will be coming back for possibly a happy hour to try more of their entrees.
This place was delicious. Plus our waitress was awesome. We tried a couples apps, and watched some TV. The atmosphere was cool, and the food was all great. We tried the wings, along with some nachos and fries. Everything was good, plus the dipping sauces were unique and tasty.
I'll be heading back in to try and a few more things on the menu shortly.
one word: gravy
I can go here solo or with friends and it's always comfortable. Good beer selection. Great patio in fair weather. If you're missing mom's meatloaf, try theirs. But if you don't like gravy, and I mean lagoons of gravy, speak up before they put your order in. Same for the open-faced hot turkey sandwich.
*Two WOrds: PUB & GRUB
*Their wings are on my top ten list, just the right deep fry crunch and meat still left and they sprinkle em with parm. It's like getting a happy ending from a chicken with Angelina Jolie's lips.
*Manny's-nuff said
*The deck-aka-parking lot with a fence-rules on a sunny day. Ask for a bird, then, DONT drive home.
* I have eaten 80% of the menu. The reuben rules so does the Burger(s)
seriously, when it's one of the 10 days of sun in Seattle...go here-early-and grab a seat on the patio; soak up as much vitamin D and beer as possible; and watch all the Fremont weirdos walk by
For example...
I decided to leave work early on one of these said sunny days...I was, um, er, sick..cough cough...
Met up with a couple of fantastic Yelpers...Carlito D and Gawd.
Mel: So Carlito, things going good in your life?
Carlito: I'm so lucky...HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY. It's like Happy, Love, and Horny Bears, all collectively gave me a big ol Care Bare Stare of joy!
M: Grrrr to you sir! Beer please!
Gawd: Dagger's in kitten's eyes!
M: I think Shitty Bear gave me the ol Stink Eye Care Bare Stare
C: Isn't this a beautiful day? I'm so lucky to be outdoors
M: You and me both man. Another Beer please!
A: Mel, I think you're burning
M: Prolly, my legs ARE used for directing traffic at night during power outages
C: Yep...Beer, Sun, Happiness...life is good
A: This sun shit is making me perspire
M: Carlito, I love ya man and I'm sincerely happy for you... BEER ME!
pretty decent food here and selection of beers on tap. Don't forget your sun block.
Its hard for me to get excited about bars anymore. But after 10 minutes of sitting on the outside deck I was just stoked to be here. We had a friends birthday here and the atmosphere was perfect. I loved the music they played outside, and it wasn't too loud. It seems so many bars in Seattle blare the music so loud you have to either scream until your throat bleeds to communicate anything to your friends or just sit and stare at them all night.
Not here. The staff was fast and friendly. They allowed us to use about 5 different cards to pay the huge bill and I know that can be a pain.
We ordered just about every appetizer on the menu. They were somewhat hit or miss. The hummus was yummy. The wings were a little bit chewy and dry. The nachos were great but the guacamole tasted like the spicy guac that comes in a bag, not fresh. Generally everything else I tried I liked.
Like I said, it's been awhile since I've felt excited to go out to a bar. But I can truly say I'm ready to come right back here asap as long as we get a seat outside.
I want to try more food so hopefully I can bump the Nickerson up to four stars. But overall I had a great night here and can't wait to come back!
Best damned hamburger sammich in town. Order it with med-rare with grilled onions, and a tasty beer, and you're set. I've been eating Saloon burgers for nearly ten years, and they are still unbeatable.
Always two or three EXCELLENT beers on tap, which is probably why I cannot just have one when I am there.
This is cool. Practically everyone is in agreement that this place is worthy of three stars, no more, no less. I'm glad there is consistency.
The Nickerson is pretty much your average saloon, and YES, it is definitely a saloon. It has a western feel and is how I like my men: all dark and woody.
Ahem.
They have food, little pee rooms (and I do mean LITTLE), TVs with old movies (and no sound), music, waitresses (including the one and only Angie, who I lovelovelove), a pool table or two, and an outside deck for the summer, which is right on the Fremont bridge and loud as hell because of the cars.
I've had some fantastic experiences here, namely the freak show that was the 2 girls on 1 guy drunken action in the back restaurant. Woa, dude. They finally got kicked out because people were getting a bit uncomfortable for the 8 pm manaja toi on a thursday night.
The steak salad is AWESOME. I do believe it is all I've ever ordered there.
Parking sucks, but this is Seattle and we all just learn to live, right? They do have a small lot on the side, but when that's taken up, good luck to ya.
So pretty much, as a summary, this is a good place to go if you just got 86'd from somewhere else, because it seems like all kinds are welcome here. There's even a bartender that looks EXACTLY like Tim Curry. How could you not love that?
Lunchtime is a no-brainer with Nickerson's. Great casual place to grab a bite to eat. The carne asada sandwich there is awesome, as well as a good burger.
During the summer months their patio is perfect for catching a few moments of sun while munching on the carne asada sandwich (if you can't guess, it's a favorite)
What don't I like about it? Their soda and lemonade always have issues. I haven't placed my finger on it yet but there is always something off with the taste. The soda either will taste watered down or some other mis-mixing taking place. So either stick with water or some brew.
This is the coolest saloon adjacent to a funeral home in Seattle. Go there. Drink some beer. Have some artery clogging pub food. Eat a good salad that makes you feel better about yourself, then have another beer to fall off the health wagon.
This place gets very packed during lunch, since Getty Images, Adobe, and other large businesses are located nearby. It has a great view of the canal, frustrated drivers waiting for the Fremont Bridge to close on a single tiny sailboat motoring through, causing a 300 car lineup. You can sip your drink and fork your plate with a smirk, knowing that you're in here and frustration is out there. Ahhhhh.... Seattle.
One cool thing I like about this place are all of the old photos of the saloon after it first opened, and I love history. The historical photographs managed to capture the many different kinds of customers all in the same pic! The interior is old varnished dark wood with a laid back atmosphere. Bartenders and wait staff are adequate and cool.
The saloon is located on a triangular lot on the west side of the Fremont Bridge, off Nickerson (imagine that?) and has a parking lot. Now, getting to the parking lot can be challenging with a long backup of cars waiting for that damn 16 foot sailboat with an extra high mast.
5 Stars!? What!? Yes. 5.
Aside from ALWAYS coming here in the summer, absorbing some UV rays and alcohol, we came here late one night when the Fremont Bridge was closed for construction. This was my first run-in with the bridge being closed as a Fremont resident with no car. So I was a little panicked.
We stopped in here (since we were aparrently stranded) and the bartender informed us of the shuttle. He poured our drinks, chatted a bit, left us, returned and informed us that the shuttle should be here in about 15 minutes.
How did he know this? He went outside, walked to the bridge, asked the worker, walked back and told us what he found out. 30 degrees outside. Talk about going above and beyond. Also, he knew what most other Seattle bartenders do not: that a Captain and ginger should come with a lime.
Since that night of great service, I've discovered the Carne Asada Steak Sandwich. I live exactly between Paseo and the Nickerson. No line, a place to sit, beer. Nickerson wins.

I was already smuggling a considerable amount of barley wine covertly in my innards before I arrived here.
It seems like a usual neighborhood corner bar serving and appearing about exactly how you would expect it would. This was my impressions through my Saint Patricks Day spirit-ual channeling (oh aren't I clever with my words).
One of the party complained that she was freezing, so I got up and booted the stone holding open the door allowing it to close. No one seemed to mind. This seems to be the easy-going norm of the place; "Hey whatever. Have another one."
I tend to frequent this place, only because it's so damn close to home. It's often hard to beat a bar only a block away.
Be prepared for inadequate service. They mean well, but seem to neglect tables often. I've very nearly walked out on checks because I can only watch so many commercial breaks waiting for my receipt to sign.
Good beer selection, limited wine, cocktails are often mediocre, though I had an amazing grapefruit thing from off the specialty menu once. The food is very hit and miss. The sandwiches are often lacklustre as are the fish and chips, and the french fries are almost always under-cooked. The fish tacos and caribbean salmon salad are exceptions, and have yet to disapoint. The Husky Nachos are perhaps the best pub nachos I've ever had. The bar itself is often crowded, and hard to navigate as stated by other reviewers. Not the right place for large groups.
Save this one for Seahawks games, and show up early to get a table. The beer specials are quite good, and the televisions are large and abundant.
Nickerson's is one of the post-game haunts for my weekend softball team. As such, my experiences are limited to Sunday afternoons, beer, and appetizers.
Nickerson's has beer, and a acceptable but not astounding selection thereof. The nachos are pretty damned tasty. The quesadillas are also a popular order with our team.
The service is sometimes lacking, and the parking can suck, even on a Sunday afternoon. One nice thing though is that they do have a family-friendly section where kids are allowed, which can be tricky to find. Also, they have a nice patio (kids not allowed,) which is fabulous on sunny days. And they have tvs throughout the bar, so we can generally catch the M's game, if its on.
I'm not saying you should drive from Olympia to hang out at this saloon, but if you are in the area stop by for some soup, a sandwich, or a beer. I came here on a rainy Saturday afternoon to watch a college football game after doing some volunteering at Northwest Harvest. I felt great, and so I stopped by here for a burger and some beer. I immediately liked the environment, a couple of separated rooms, a wrap around bar making it seem like 2 different bars.
Standard TV set up, OK place to watch a game. The second time I came I met up with some friends there to have a few drinks and play pool. There was one pool table, but the place wasn't too busy so we stayed in this corner the entire time. I had a good time, the only downside is this was close to the bathroom... and it was really smelly. I don't know whether to equate it to the person that used it a few minutes earlier or the establishment. Either way, it didn't affect me long term so I would definitely go back to this bar as a 1 or 2 hour stopping point, day or night.
I've only been there once, late night for drinks on a Sunday. It was pretty sparse but we had the greatest waitress. She checked in to make sure we were doing okay, but otherwise minded her own business. She was really awesome by asking what kind of drinks we liked then she'd suggest her own. In my case, she made up a drink for me (pineapple juice, pomegranate juice, vanilla vodka, splash of soda water) and it was delicious. At the end of the night, she got a big tip and brought out complimentary shots...for me and my friend as well as her. We cheered and drank together. Now THAT'S a waitress!
I always have a good time here. And really, what more can you ask for?
I love the staff, there's a ragtag team of bar regulars at night, food is whatever (really, we all know we're here to drink), I can't comment on sports here because, well, I don't know/care about sports, but I can tell you that they always have ESPN on the screens. Enjoy, I guess.
The location is key, it's fun to sit outside in the summertime and watch the bridge... but winter is where it's at for beer selection. They have awesome seasonals on tap right now... Jolly Roger, Snow Cap, and my very favorite Jubelale on nitro! Sweet!
Basically, it's just what I would expect from a place advertising itself as a saloon. A good spot to just chill. There is good beer. The Nick delivers.
We wanted a HH. It was sunny, we had hot weather clothes on, and we needed fuel. Ponti was snotty to us and said their patio was "reserved"... maybe I should have walking in first given that I still ahd trend work clothes on vs. my roommate who was wearing a cut off skirt. Our next step was to walk to the Nick- we could see the sign from Ponti and it seemed logical. I knew it was called the Nick because old SPU grads rave about their "place" when given the change- it at least deserved a shot?
Our time at the Nick almost didn't happen because the sign on the outside of the building said that their HH was only M-F. This stopped us in our tracks. We wanted cheapness and a place to sit outside- even if it was next the road with only really a view of the bridge and the bottom of a hill. We decided to stay anyways- after random comment and idea session time- because we were tired and had no energy to come up with another plan.
The sign lied and HH was a go. Except that the food choices were quesadilla, Mediterranean plate, and pot stickers. Woo- freakin'- hoo. Being that I was starving and had been living off hummus the few weeks before I went for the quesadilla and I'll admit when it finally arrived it was good- Also ordered were tall boy cans of Rainer and the Med plate.
Our server was present when we were seated and when we wanted to finish. Between those two appearances it was really hard to get her to our table. Even with a stare down of all 4 of us. We just wanted few things and she was chipping away at our HH time. It took over a half an hour to order after we got our first round.
Sitting on the patio was chill. Even with the lack of service I didn't leave disliking the place. I will probably go back... maybe it was the good quesadilla... maybe it was the tall boy cans of goodness... who knows...
Good burgers for lunch & beer, nice patio. But Oh ... my ... god. Forget it if there's a game. The wait staff is just as engrossed in the game as their patrons. Not being a sports enthusiast in a sports bar like myself would hardly be noticed. Such that we had to go up to the lady and ask for our food!!
Other than game nights, lunch on the patio is good (and Seattle, how often do we get to do that?). But it's more convenience being down the street more than anything.
-- UPDATE: Here's a tip - SIT AT THE BAR. The lady at the bar was very attentive and kept an eye on us. Sitting at a table means "fend for yourself!"
All 5 stars go to...the veggie burger.
oh the goddess smiled on me that day of discovery.
best I've ever had.
I wish they delivered to lower queen anne.
the staff is nice and I agree that the place is intolerable if there's a game on but I'm not there for that.
I'm there just for the veggie burger.
I'm taking away one star because your food is so bad. And overpriced. And every time I go I think I'm going to find something I like more - and it's worse than the last time (quite the accomplishment...)

Don't know why in a city full of sub-par Mexican food I decided to try a burrito at a saloon. My bad. Very bland, though I did request no cheese or sour cream... but the chicken wasn't very good anyways. Huge portion though. From now on I'll stick with the drink menu.

Like the bar service, dislike the cocktail service. Not easy job to cocktail, I know, have done it, but don't charge an auto grat when you never return to the table and I only get one drink in 2 hours. That's just plain mean. If you go sit at the bar and eat some fries. They're damn tasty.
So a June day in 2006, me and my roommates get moved in to our new place by the Fremont bridge. Decide to go find our new hang out for the next 365 days, and "The Nick" falls right in our lap. We introduced ourselves, and Jason, the bartender pulls out 3 jager shots. Welcome he says. That is the nick. A perfect place to grab drinks, a burger, enjoy a game on the plasma or sit on the huge patio in the summer. $6.00 shot/beer special after 10pm daily too.
The service here isn't always on point. But they have a spicy pulled pork sandwich on ciabatta bread, topped with fresh squeeze of lime, chopped jalapeno, and cilantro that will make you thank the gods for giving us the pig.
Always crowded but the service is top-notched. Good variety of appetizers and large portions so your buck stretches a bit further here. If you have a larger group, call ahead and reserve the space in the back and you'll even get your very own waitperson at your beck and call.
This is an excellent choice on the "other" side of the bridge. Lots of outdoor seating, and plenty inside. The bar area is a little narrow. Great burgers and fries. Even good soup on those colder days. Pool table in the back and there's generally not too many people playing on it, so you can often have it all to yourself! There are even a few tall tables nearby so you'll have convenient access to your food and beer while you play. Parking can be a little tight. Great place on the way home from work, especially if you have to wait for the Fremont Bridge to close.
We went here on a Friday night for a friend's birthday, and it was surprisingly uncrowded. Food was pretty standard bar fare: bacon cheeseburger was large and tasty, the potstickers were deep-fried and crispy, and the salad even looked OK (I didn't try it). And they didn't mind when we jammed 32 candles into a tiny piece of cake and almost set off the smoke detector. I'd go back.
This places gets 3-stars for being so close to work and not sucking. They don't suck, but it won't blow your socks off. I usually head over here with a group of co-workers on Fridays because my co-workers enjoy the Friday lunch special, the Ruben sandwich.
I don't really like beef, so I've never tried the Ruben here. My favorite lunch item here is the plate of chipotle barbecue wings. They are very tasty, smothered in delicious barbecue sauce and served with a generous side of ranch to dip them in. At $8.95, it's a couple dollars more than my co-workers Ruben special, but I guess that's what I get for not liking beef. Other decent lunch options I've had are the chicken quesadilla at $9.25 and the Husky nachos at $8.95. They serve Coke products (woohoo!) and are quick to refill your empty drink. They have a decent selection of beer on tap, though I've never had a beer or a drink here since I've only ever been here on my lunch hour. I would never go out of my way to come eat (or drink) here, but it's a nice place to have nearby work to go enjoy a lunch out with my co-workers.
I drive past this place daily and always have the desire to stop in, so, this lovely Saturday in a desperate attempt to find February outdoor seating in our Fremont neighborhood, we crossed the bridge and headed to the local saloon. Our service was GREAT; sadly, what was served to us was awful. The two Bloody Marys we ordered tasted like liquid ketchup with little vodka and no spice at all. My fish tacos were okay and definitely better than my boyfriend's fish and chips that tasted old... maybe they were frozen and thawed several times? Not sure what caused it but it was not good. Two god awful Bloody Mary's and two small lunches we couldn't choke down cost us 40 dollars plus tax and tip... much more than I want to spend on pub food, especially bad pub food. I can see this place being the ideal setting for a beer on a day when they actually have outdoor seating, but I can honestly say that I don't think I'll be coming back even then, since their outdoor seating happens to be on one of the busier intersections in our neck of the woods. I prefer the Red-Door, despite the stench of frat boy vomit :) just kidding, I think.
