We got bun (vermicelli) and a rice dish. I usually don't get rice dishes but we needed to get something easy to eat for our 14 month old son, so we got it on the waiter's recommendation. The rice dish was really good! The bun was just ok -- not the best I've ever had but not bad.

The food here is so cheap. I might want to move back to NY just for places like this.

everything was pretty average.. we had a nice assortment of food.. the best item being the frog leg appetizer.. it was fried and covered in a sticky garlic sauce... the outside was crispy, the sauce was nice..

the house special pork chop had no char.. it was dried out and kind of boring. we also had a few o there dishes, some beef appetizer, charred roll pieces of beef served with lettuce and thai basil..

I don't know, the food was uninspired, kind of boring, and not the best.. no reason to return.. staff was very nice

I came here a few weeks after returning from Vietnam with a serious craving for the beef stew (not Pho) I would find at nearly every hole-in-the-wall.

When I realized that Nha Trang One had two menus (one Americanized menu and with more authentic dishes, I suppose), I felt confident that I had picked the right spot in Manhattan. Unfortunately, though, I thought the Pho Bo Satee was pretty bland and left a lot to desire. My friend thought her BBQ beef with rice (Com Bo Nuong) was pretty good (recommended to us by the regular at the next table).

Maybe I didn't order well but I'll keep looking.

My friend, Marjorie V., and I came here for late night pho.

I give it three stars because it wasn't amazing food. It was good with good service but not a place that I would go out of my way to recommend to people.

so I called them before we went and asked if they take American Express. they told me yes. we get there and we ask just in case before we sit. and they say no. erm..

but it was not the end of the world so we sat down anyways. :))

we both ordered pho-- the combination one.

I got the regular size and my friend ordered the bigger size but it pretty much looked the same with maybe more soup in my friend's bowl. HOWEVER, the amount of meat they gave was plentiful. They do not skimp out on their portions.

It definitely tastes a little bit different from Pho32 and those other Korean owned pho places. The soup is different. I used to not be able to tell the difference but these days-- I prefer the chinese owned pho places. No reason.. I just do.

I have to say it was one of the original Vietnamese restaurants in NYC. Now there are so many in the area even right next door I think they have to beef up the pho portion! The flavor is there on all the items on the menu but they seem to have lost the touch of making customers feel welcome. They seem to push you out as fast as they can due to the line at the door. I feel like a cattle being pushed to the pasture. Otherwise the food is ok. I tried next door and the food was the same if not better due to the service, they didn't push to seat the the next guest. I will leave it to you to decide how your experience is.

Was looking for a good pho for quite sometimes and tonight the aroma of the pho here was to die for. Andy the manager was very polite and communicative . I love Vietnamese food because it's among the healthiest cuisines in the world. not fried, not salty, not greasy and easily digested.

I was in chinatown and I was really craving some Chinese noodle soup, but all the places were full up so I ducked into here to have a pho.  I tried the meatball pho and the only thing was thinking is that it had some sort of different flavor then all the pho I've eaten. By the way, I have eaten a lot of pho. It was prob differen because it seemed to be run by Chinese people.

Nha Trang is my jam! Despite not being Vietnamese, growing up in the Bay Area surrounded by pho restaurants made pho my go-to comfort food. I honestly can't imagine anything better when you're feeling down than a nice hot bowl of noodles, meat, and ass-tons of sriracha, and Nha Trang has, without a doubt, my favorite bowl of pho in the city.

Plus it's cheap as shit! I get the mixed seafood bowl and usually end the meal with either Vietnamese coffee or a glass of che ba mau (a sweet "rainbow drink" made with red beans, mung beans, and some kind of jello-ish rice-y substance), and, like I mentioned previously, it's super cheap. You can reach maximum capacity, even soaring to food-coma levels of gluttony, and still only put down like, 6 dollars.

Also, the food comes out at most about five minutes after you order it. Some people may bitch that that means it's not fresh or whatever, but like, when you're tired, stressed, and hungry as balls, who the hell cares as long as it's fucking delicious? And it IS!

It was a cold and chilly day and we were all in the mood for some pho! There is a place I usually go to but thought I'd try something new and looked on Yelp for a good pho place and was directed to Nha Trang One.

Jimmy C. was running a little late so our other friend and I just sat and waited at our table. It wasn't prime time for lunch or dinner so they didn't really rush us in ordering. I wanted pho with beef and beef balls (they're my faves!) and while it wasn't on the pho menu, it was on a different menu. The menus are super confusing because there are two of them and they say similar but different things. Anyways, the pho came out super fast, as always, but instead of getting beef and beef balls, I got the combo with tripe, tendons, and some other stuff. I don't eat tripe so I picked it all out! I kept on digging for my beef balls..and they weren't there wahh.

The waiter saw my disappointed and distressed face and asked me what was wrong and I said he gave me the wrong order and I really wanted beef balls. He came back 5 minutes later with a bowl of beef balls for me, which was really nice...even though he messed up my order in the first place.

It was also extremely hot. I don't know if it was my cashmere sweater or what, but we were all sweating hardcore! I had to go outside for a couple of minutes just to cool down.

The pho itself was pretty good, but my whole dining experience was pretty icky. I'd come back and give them another chance, just because I feel like a lot of things went wrong this time!

P.S. They take max of 2 credit cards per table just FYI.

One perk of living in downtown NYC is ready access to cheap and good pho.  For the uninitiated, pho is Vietnamese noodle soup, with rice noodles, mint, basil, beansprouts and usually beef.  I usually head to what I refer to as "Pho Row" - a stretch of 5-6 Vietnamese restaurants on the outskirts of Chinatown.  Here,  a big bowl of steamy, hearty pho will keep your belly full for about $5 - not too shabby!  On a recent chilly night, I visited one of my faves of the "row" - Nha Trang.

Of course at that bargain price, utensils and napkins are strictly self-serve only. And menus are not only handed out (make sure you don't get the "American style" version) but displayed under the glass-top tables.

My eating buddy and I started with cha gio, or Vietnamese spring rolls. Served with a sweet and tangy dipping sauce, these spring rolls were crispy, satisfyingly greasy, and served piping hot. Delicious!

I ordered my usual - pho bo vien - or pho with beef meatballs (first picture).  The noodles were pleasantly chewy, the broth savory and flavorful, and the meatballs the perfect texture (soft but tenacious. Yes, there is a tenacious texture).  I slurped away to my heart's content.

My eating buddy the chicken and vegetable dish over rice, which had a flavor that was more reminiscent of Chinese food than Vietnamese cuisine (we were on the outskirts of Chinatown, after all), but was still delectable.  This plate was gone in no time.

If you're looking for inexpensive, satisfying Vietnamese food in the NYC area, definitely head down to Baxter Street where you'll find Nha Trang and several other Vietnamese restaurants (I'm also a fan of Thai Son a few doors down).  For less than $20, you and an eating buddy will be stuffed!

    Cheap and good.

The pho here is done the right way, but with that said nothing was spectacular.  It was not the best pho Ive had, nor will I remember it in the next couple of weeks.  However at $6.75 for a pho dac biet (pho with everything) served a decently sized bowl, the value is there.  The pho comes out hot with the pieces of meat near the surface rare like its supposed to be.  You dip the meat into the hot soup to cook it through, therefore when you finally eat the meat it is not tough and chewy.  Of course the meat is only one part of the story, you still have the noodles and the broth.  Yes the broth here is good, clean, flavorful.  The noodles were on par with other pho out there.  The condiments are standard with your lime, basil leaves, bean sprouts.  Service was efficient, and i left with a full belly and also a fat wallet.  Definitely a solid option if you are craving some pho.

This place was my first experience with pho. I had never tried (or heard of) the stuff before coming here. It's so great though -- it's not heavy but it's really tasty. I dumped a bunch of bean sprouts and sriracha into it and dug in. That's the way I was told is a smart move and I have to say, it worked out fantastically.

I forget exactly what I had as an appetizer but it was a wrap that had a little hint of mint in it and the name had something like ga in there which is the kind of meat it was. Despite my vagueness, I really think you should try this appetizer.

Oh and even better, this place doesn't really cost too much at all. You can get more food than you can eat for $10 a person. Solid. If you bring a date, pickup the bill. It tastes so much better than meals you can get for many times the price.

Pho is awesome in Winter New York cause who doesn't like hot soup on a cold day! It should have been closer to 2.5 stars because of the service but I rounded up lol.

    FOOD:
Tasty, Good Portions...Not the best Pho I've ever had but was enough and not too stingy. Maybe being a fellow Texas my whole life I may have been use to larger portions of Pho but it was still ample enough to fill me up. Not sure if it was MSG Free but still delish.

    SERVICE:
Is where they fell short. They messed up on my friend's order and gave her the wrong soup. She had ordered like fish ball/meat ball soup or something and they gave her like a beef soup. However the waiter came back and gave her a bowl of meatballs to add so that was nice. However!!!! When taking our order, the other waiter seemed very rude, and not willing to be patient and talk to us and wait and was rushed to get back to watching TV or something. (May explain the messed up order) And at no time were we waited on, until we were leaving and we were there for a while!

    ATMOSPHERE:
Small quarters, close proximity seating.  And they were cranking the heat, so I guess that was generous however, is that a comfortable and proper good temperature environment? I don't know, may have to be more aware on that one.

    SUMMARY:
Decent Pho Place to go to on a cold day. Don't know if I would say it's a stellar place but will hit the spot on any given day.

As a transplant from Southern California, I think it's justified for me to say that I've tried my fair share of Vietnamese food.

Unfortunately, since moving to NYC, I have NOT been satisfied with the Asian food I've been eating here thus far. Every Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Korean restaurant just has not been cutting it compared to what I usually experience back home so it has caused me to embark on a long and sometimes frustrating journey to find the best eats in this city that can help cure the homesickness that one feels when separated from such excellent cuisine.

So far I've been to about 5 different pho restaurants and this one stands out FAR above any that I've been to so far.

Location: This is located right next to the courthouses in Lower Manhattan, so the area is very safe to go to at any hour of the day.

Environment: The restaurant is fairly small, can fit about 60 and has a very 'hole in the wall' feel to it as soon as you walk inside.

Service: The waiters have always been very nice to me, the place usually never gets busy so they pay extra attention to you, make sure your cup is always full, check to see if you want to order any extras, etc...  (They also give you free tea, which is something I rarely see at a pho restaurant, NY or CA).

Food: Ah, saving the best for last... While I wouldn't rank Nha Trang One as a GREAT pho restaurant (Hence the 4 star review), it is good for what it is, that being a pho restaurant in NY, at least the best one I've had so far. The portions are FAIR for the price, the meat tastes good, as does the soup and noodles; however, my only complaint (as is universal with all pho restaurants I've been to in NYC so far) is that the pho dac biet doesn't really have as much of a variety of meat as back home in California. The other dishes are also nice to try out, but everytime I come to this place I generally have the pho with an appetizer which comes out to around $10, $13 with tip.

This place is nice to grab lunch with a friend, go by yourself, or take a date, the place is very quiet, kind of hard to find, but overall, a good eat and I would go again (and I do!).

One thing I would recommend is not going between the hours of 1-2 PM because that is when everyone goes out to lunch and this restaurant (as well as almost all of the restaurants in the area) become packed and unfortunately, but expectedly, the service you receive degrades by a significant factor.

I am in New York for the first time visiting a friend and we wanted to do some shopping in China Town. It started snowing really fast and I immediately knew I had to try some Pho in New York. Thanks to my Yelp App on the phone and the reviews, we decided to try Nha Trang One.

It is a small place, but it was packed and WARM!
We were greeting immediately and brought complimentary hot tea!
Of course, I had the Pho Tai. The broth was perfect. This was my friend's first adventure with Vietnamese food and their menu had many options instead of just noodle soup. (All the staples of Vietnamese food). He decided on the bbq pork chop which he loved! :)

The only think I didn't like: there was only one bathroom and it was Unisex. I got over it though.

Overall, I am happy that my Vietnamese Restuarant in New York was authentic and up  to par.

After trying the com suon nuong and pho ga, this place earns a 'just OK' from me. There's been a full house on both of my visits, but Nha Trang One just can't seem to deliver the goods. The pork chop was a bit oily and had decent flavor but it didn't wow me. The pho ga kind of missed the point: a scant serving of meat and the broth was just not all that chickeny. Go here if you're desperate for some Vietnamese standards, but don't expect much.

Um...what? How is it that my table's food of 4 dishes came out in less than a minute after we ordered at peak hour on a Friday night?  Though I stared suspiciously at my food for a few seconds...("is this microwaved?"....), one taste set aside all my suspicions.  After two visits to Nha Trang One, this is now my choice place for pho tai in the city.   As far as I know, not being Vietnamese), the place seems fairly authentic - they provide ample amount of basil, bean sprouts, and lime for your pho, and each table is stocked with sriracha, hoisin, vinegar, soup spoons and chopsticks.  Also good are the grilled chicken, grilled beef, and summer rolls.  Waiters are friendly and super fast.

    Dimly lit, but decently clean.

I had the bun bo hue here instead of pho.  It tasted just the same as any other bun bo hue I've had anywhere else, so not WOW or anything.  The summer rolls are pretty good as well, but also the same as anywhere else.  Spring rolls are a-okay as well.

As for the pho, I didn't try it but I came with a few people who I have had pho with many a time back in my days in Atlanta (where my favorite pho is!), and they said it was inferior and not very tasty... I guess I will have to try for myself next time!

    Date/Time:  Friday - 1pm
    Occasion:  Lunch
    Party of:  Two
Location:  Located in on "pho" rowe in Chinatown. Pretty big on the inside
Ordered:  Pho tai bo vien small, Pho dac biet, and Bo tai chanh
    Total incl gratuity: $25

No trip is complete without succumbing to my craving for pho.  Make the trek to Chinatown for some hot noodle soup.  Of course it ended up being a hot toasty day for this meal; not the best idea.  Nonetheless, we stopped in for our pho.  Be wary, Nha Trang is located amongst several other pho restaurants but we opted for this one.

We ordered bo tai chanh (raw beef salad) as an appetizer.  It was served after our pho arrived and was not raw.  It was cooked beef with shredded lettuce. So disappointed! The pho was ok; nothing to rave about.  You could definitely taste the spices in the brother and it was extra hot, which is really important!  It was a generous portion of noodle.  It made my tummy happy.  Prices here are normal - about $6 for a bowl. Great place for fast, quick, hearty lunch.

When I was invited to dine on Vietnamese food, I didn't really know what to expect.  The meal of choice was to be Pho, which, again, was pretty cryptic - but as a silly American, when I found out that it was basically just beef and noodles in broth, I was on board.

I loved that we were able to assemble part of the meal ourselves.  Diners are given the option of adding greens, lemon, and bean sprouts to the Pho.  I also liked the texture of the noodles, and the beef was pretty tasty.

Cons:  Kind of hard to eat.  I'm finding this to be an issue at multiple places lately, so maybe it's just me.  The waiter also either forgot about us or forgot to tell us to pay up at the register.  Not really a big deal, especially because they were pretty busy.

When I asked my friend what he thought, he simply said, "It's Pho.".

That comment influenced my final decision:  Pho out of five stars.
Okay, that was cheesy, even for me.

TL, DR; Good food, go try it!

I return to it almost everytime I'm in NYC.  It's your basic vietnamese restaurant: order is asked for before you have even sat down, no one ever returns to check on you, but the pho other dishes are tasty and everything is fairly cheap.

This is definitely one of the better pho places in Manhattan.
My husband and I are very predictable --he gets the pho dac biet and I the pho tai; add summer rolls, one coke, and maybe a ca phe sua da post-meal.  WE GET THIS AT EVERY PHO RESTAURANT WE GO TO.
My pho tai was generally very delicious.  I was not impressed by the meat they used though; I've definitely had more tender and better cut of meat elsewhere.
Summer rolls were also very good.  We get the fish sauce because the husband is allergic to peanut.  Very very good fish sauce.  Probably one of the best I've ever had.
Otherwise, definite mindy's seal of approval.

Nha Trang One is our go-to pho place in the city.  It helps that it's conveniently located where Pomelia is living.

I can't really say too much about the atmosphere of the place.  It's on a small side street, it's usually got a good amount of people inside, and the service is pretty good (unless they are particularly busy: then your service can vary wildly.)  The pho is really good here and it always hits the spot.  And if you aren't in the mood for pho (and really, why wouldn't you be), I can even speak well of some of the other meals offered here (rice dishes, noodles, etc.)

One time they forgot Pomelia's order of spring rolls, and after we let them know about their error, they brought us summer rolls instead.  :-/ We told them that we ordered spring rolls and then they finally brought them out.  Besides that blip, we haven't had many issues with this place.  They've got tea and bean sprouts up to your ears for munching on before your food arrives (even if it's meant to be put _in_ the food). Oh, sometimes you have to ask for them to bring you the check. They never seem to want us to leave....

You can't go wrong with Nha Trang One.

I love pho. I crave it at least once a week especially on rainy days or when I had a bad day. With that said, I have not really branched out and ordered anything else but the pho (#1) to exact.

In my opinion, this place serves the best pho in the city and this is why:

Always fresh herbs and bean sprouts and they don't give you dirty looks when you ask for more

Soup base is complex and not too fatty With just the right amount of star anise

Generous amount of meat and good meat to noodle to soup ratio.

No MSG dry mouth after I eat it!

I don't eat beef, so I ordered the Pho Ga (chicken), and it was delicious! Pho Ga is normally not prepared very well, so I wasn't expecting it to be this great! Mmmm comforting!
We also had some spring rolls and a dish of frog legs in chili over rice. Both were yum yum yum as well!
And to top it off, unlike most places in Chinatown, this place accepts credit cards!!
Needless to say, we've finally found our NYC pho haven!

My favorite place for Vietnamese in Chinatown.

I usually stick with the #1 Pho.  It has all the goodies that I like: tendons, tripe, and thin slices of raw beef.  It just hits the spot.  Probably won't blow your mind, but really solid and consistently good.

Their Vietnamese Iced Coffee is also my favorite coffee of all the Viet coffee places!!  Get it!!

Great Pho. I had the meatballs and my friend had the deluxe. The tendons and beef in the deluxe were very tender. Both HIGHLY recommended. My friend grew up in Nha Trang, and so knows good pho. We started with the fried spring rolls and Banh Cuon. Spring rolls where okay, a little small and lacking a good filling, but the Bang Cuon was just superb. I finished off the meal with a traditional Vietnamese Coffee, which was just perfect in my books. An enjoyable experience for reasonable price.

I am so confused by the rating for this place...so, so confused.  This doesn't even compare to the pho from the bay area/San Jose and yet it received 4 stars...did I mention I was confused.

The portions are on the smaller side but the lower price reflects that.  Service was surprisingly good as they were well staffed.

I came here for dinner last night in need of summer rolls. I was all excited to see that they had them on the menu and even better they were able to make them veggie by adding tofu!! Once they arrived I couldn't wait to dig in ... just to find out they were soooo bland, boring and flavorless. Just plain awful. They were stuffed with rice noodles, ice berg lettuce and tofu. Where were my carrots, mint, basil, anything?! At least the peanut sauce made up for it.

For entrees, my friend asked our waiter to recommend either beef or chicken. The waiter asked if my friend liked spicy or not, which he doesn't so the waiter recommended the pork chops. I'm pretty sure he ended up with the Bo Lan Salad beef slices in special sauce with salad. Which was just sliced of beef on a bed of ice berg lettuce with a few carrots and cucumbers. Kind of random.

I had the Dau Hu Dau Bap Zao Sa Ot tofu, mushroom with okra in lemon grass sauce. This was delicious and totally made up for my summer rolls. The sauce was really what made the dish.

I also got a side of rice noodles and mixed it with the peanut sauce because I was a little obessed with it. Good size portions of food as well.

The service was also very attentive. I really liked our waiter, he was a little bit of an older gentleman and was very friendly. He really liked joking with us, I couldn't tell he was just being rude or joking .. but it was only joking. Bill was $25 which I don't think is too shabby for what we got. The place was busy but not packed.

Can't say I'll be running back anytime soon ... at least not for the summer rolls!

I am currently sitting at my table, staring at my bowl of pho tai in awe.

I'm asking that bowl in front of me : "little bowl, how is it that your contents are so mightily tasty? I am confused and happy and overwhelmed at the complex simplicity of your steaming contents!"

The bowl, deeply and sumptuously staring back at me goes : "it's just how I do."

To which I answer : "well allllllll right."

    (enough said)

My pho-fatty sister and I love Cong Ly but once in awhile we try a new pho spot to see how it compares to our favorite. Nha Trang One is sandwiched between two other Vietnamese restaurants, Pho Pasteur and Thai Son. While I haven't tried the other two, my first impression of Nha Trang One was that it's cleaner and nicer than most Vietnamese restaurants in Chinatown.

Nha Trang One has a crazy selection; they have two full menus! Even though there were so many choices, we stuck to our favorite dishes since we were trying this restaurant for the first time. We started with SUMMER ROLLS. http://www.yelp.com/bi... They were pretty basic but fresh and well made. For pho, I ordered the PHO DAC BIET as I always do. http://www.yelp.com/bi... The pho broth was a bit weak as if it had not simmered long enough on the stove. They gave a lot of beef which was nice, but there wasn't enough of the other stuff (tendon, tripe, brisket, etc.). The noodles were good. To put it simply, Nha Trang's pho is decent but not the best I've had in Chinatown. I'll be sticking to Cong Ly for my pho cravings and returning to Nha Trang One to try more of their non-pho menu.

Arguably the best pho in Chinatown at a very reasonable price.

The bowls of pho are absolutely massive, the noodle-to-broth-to-meat ratios are solid (if unspectacular), the adorning sauces--sriracha, plum sauce, garlic chili sauce--are provided in copious, free amounts, and the complimentary hot tea is delicious.

In terms of price, you really can't beat Nha Trang One.  The go-to pho dish--L1--is an absolutely massive bowl of pho for only $6.50.  The appetizers and side dishes are also reasonably priced; summer rolls, spring rolls, etc. all come with 4 decent-sized rolls for under $4.

The only thing that rivals the price is the hastiness of the service.  Although many (if not most) of the servers "struggle" with English to say the least, the food and appetizers come out INCREDIBLY quickly.  So, if you come here in a large group and hope to engage in some good ol' fashioned group conversation, you better get started early; your food will be out before you know it.

If you're looking for a lunch or dinner spot to dine in and have a great blow of Vietnamese pho, this is probably your best option in all of Chinatown.  PS They DO accept credit cards.

i believe they were two for $3.25 with the sauce,
and they are pretty filling so don't be too greedy!

Very close to the best Pho i've had in nyc.  About tied with Thai Son, and better than Pho Grand and Cong Ly.  I prefer the brisket a little fattier, but otherwise all their meat was excellent.  Might be more meat at Thai Son, but this bowl is fiddy cent cheaper.

As a pho connoisseur and therefor one who is not trying to waste his time in a pho paradise like Chinatown or Little Saigon, I had to do my research.  I had been to Pho Grand before very late night when it was the only thing on grand open.  I liked but not completely enough to keep me from checking out other places.  So I Yelp-researched other places in the area and Nha Trang seemed to be my next good bet along my pho tour.

The place is nice, quiet, room for big or small groups.  The staff was not very friendly but did their thing with no problems.

We started with the sugar cane shrimp appetizer, which was more an experience than anything else (wrapping the sugar cane already wrapped in the shrimp blend with lettuce and filling the wrap with cucumbers, carrots, sweet sauce, etc.).  Then I ordered the pho with beef brisket and tendon (I always new I loved the weird, chewy, clear meat but didn't know until now that it was tendon).  Obviously it came with good, fresh bean sprouts and mint (no jalapeno, which was a shame).

The broth had good flavor and the tendon and brisket were both very good although but served in small portions.

My pho along with my friends pork chop with rice dish and the shrimp appetizer all came to only $20 (the pho alone was about $6).

Cool place, good meat, still haven't found THAT PHO PLACE though.
