How can I NOT give them 5 stars -- even if the wine tastes like ass (which it doesn't -- it's actually very well done), they have personality. The very first time we visited here several years ago, I thought it was kind of uppity and snooty, but I think that was just an isolated incident. Every other time we've been here, we've had a great time. And they have a wine called "Drama Queen." Ok and another called "Train Wreck." I know someone to whom BOTH terms would apply! Maybe I should buy her some....

This such a cool tasting room, modern yet warm, big seating outside where you can take a load off and take a rest sipping winemaker Scotts lovely Newsome Harlow wines. Train Wreck will make you smile - the idea is to pour it in your glass, not have one! Not to worry, no train wreck in Murphys, California because you don't have to drive once you get here! Discover Big John here, you'll be very glad you did, at least if you're a Zin Head you will!

Wow! Nice new winery. We went to the tasting room in Murphy's one rainy Sunday and even though they only poured 3 wines we loved each and every one of them. They have a great Sauvignon Blanc. I usually dislike this wine, finding it too acidic but this one was much more smooth, very nice. Also, pick up the "Big John" Zinfandel (named for an ex UC prof named John who's 6'3") which was delicious.
