Very friendly and inviting employees. Carefully explains everything in a helpful way. Not the usual robotic or "I'm being paid minimum wage" to do this job. Tastings occur all day when the vineyard is open, skipped the tour. The price of the tastings are cheap as hell compared to LI vineyards and comes with souvenir wine glasses. Pretty smart move, as vacationers aren't gonna bring their own wine glasses, thus prompting us to buy bottles and bottles of wine to drink in the comfort of our hotel room.

Now to the wine. I am going to cut this short and say there are hits and misses (everyone's pallet is different, we will never agree), but go ahead and pick up a few bottles of White Cap Port for your vacation and for home.

My friend and I stumbled on to the Newport Vineyard a few years ago on our way down visit the Mansions and Cliff walk.  This vineyard is on route 138 in a little strip of stores.  The shop has a tour and a tasting.  The price of the tour and tasting has gone up considerably from when I first went.  This used to be $3 and it included the the tour the tasting of 5 wines and the glass.

I just recently went back and the tasting is now $9.  Luckily my friend and I have bought enough wine over the ages to be members of the Case Club.  This is a great program that as you accumulate cases bought you get a percentage off.  We are now at 20% off each case and this membership comes with 2 free tastings.  So we got our tasting withour paying the $9.

I am not saying that the tasting isn't worth the $9.  I really enjoy many of the wines there so if I weren't spoiled by the low prices of yesteryear I wouldn't even be bring it up.

There are so many wines that I enjoy here that mentioning them all would make this a very long review  So I will just mention a few.  I really love the new blend of Gewurztraminer, Muscat Ottonel, Pinot Gris and Riesling they have called Tranquility.  Each of these wines alone are very good and the blend just makes a good thing better.  This wine is a little more pricey at $19.99 but it is excellent.  The most popular wine is the Great White which is very crisp and delisious and affordable at $10.99.

As far as the Reds the Landot Nior is quite good but at $22.99 it is also a little pricey for everyday wine.   "Landot Noir is a dark, soft and fragrant red wine with exciting complexities of cherry, plum and jam; gently pressed and aged in oak barrels."

The vineyard has a very full range of whites, reds, blushes, sparkling wines, reserve wines, dessert wines and even a hard cider.

I would highly recommend this to anyone.  Even a friend of mine that doesn't like wine found one that she liked here.  You would know it is a ringing endorsement if you knew her.

This place is a lovely vineyard with significantly more selection than the nearby Greenvale Vineyard (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). For $7 you can sample 5 wines of your choice. They have a good variety of wines and even dessert wines (they also have hard cider called Rhody Coyote).

The woman who hosted the tasting was wonderful and explained every wine very well. Somehow she managed to be attentive to everyone (who was all tasting different wines) and explain their wines in a good time frame.

I didn't get to try the vineyard tour because it was really rainy and muddy out so I'm not sure how good that is but the wine tasting was excellent. Definitely try this vineyard if you're in Newport!

Note: There's also little shops attached to where the vineyard's main building is such as a toy store and a restaurant.

I went here on a random trip to RI a few winters ago. They have a great tour, and the wine itself is delicious. The process of picking grapes seems to be intense and precise. They do a great job selling their product on this cool tour. I highly recommend it if you find yourself in RI.

Let me start by saying I am addicted to their "Great White". Four years ago my wife and I found this wonderful place while we were down for the Newport Boat Show. Since then we have gone down to Newport Vineyard 3 times for tastings and countless other times specifically to stock up. We even had Great White as the wine at our wedding reception!

The folks at Newport Vineyard are very friendly and really know their stuff so if you have questions ask away. The tour is short but really interesting if you've never been on a tour before. If you have just buy a tour ticket so you can participate in the wine tasting and also get yourself a free Newport Vineyard wine glass...my wife and I now have quite a few of those glasses :)

If you're within an hour of Newport and you're looking for something interesting to do you should make the trip. You can bring the kids on tour, have a quick tasting, and then head next door to The Glass Onion for lunch or dinner!

Matt, the wine tasting guy was lots of fun, I'd go back for his entertainment!  The wine..ahhhh, not so much but I suppose its a good way to fill in the gaps of a day.  I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend going here but I wouldn't tell you not to either.

i don't have the most sensitive palette, but i know this - wine will get you drunk.

newport vineyards definitely seems to be the biggest and most commercially successful vineyard in the area.  located just outside of newport, rhode island the vineyard is convenient to get to.  unfortunately, being located in a strip mall, it is not the most picturesque locale.

again, with the caveat that i lack a truly sensitive palette, i like the wine.  i'm usually good to pick up a mixed case or three of the:

no oak chardonnay (very flavorful without the overpowering and headache inducing oak i get from the californians);
sanctuary (nice little table white);
riesling (good for a riesling, but i'm not a fan of sweet wines);
vidal blanc (light white);
seyval blanc (a bit heavier than most of the other whites);
rochambeau (fairly bold and dry table red);
gemeni (similar to a chianti);
cabernet franc (a pretty bold red good with heavy dishes).

i've also had, and bought, their muscat and hard cider.  safe to say i haven't been tremendously disappointed with anything i've gotten there.  they range from about $12 to $20 a bottle.

they do a few tasting events each year and, for $5 you can taste 5 of their wines and you get to keep the glass.  realistically, they don't count how many you taste, so you can try them all.  they also have local purveyors show up with items like candied apples, mustards, salsas, pastas, jellies and jams and cabot cheese.

all in all, it's a nice experience if you get a good day and definitely a good stop of any sort of rhode island wine tour.  i highly recommend joining the case club.  first case is 10% off; second in 15%; 3rd is 17% and the fourth (and every case thereafter) is 20% off.  though the weather is likely to be better in the spring, go down in the late fall to see the grapes on the vine.

Great vineyard and very friendly people. They also give you a comprehensive list of their wines with detailed description of grape concoctions and flavors alongwith recommendations for food that will go with teh wine (or vice versa).

I liked most of their wines. The ice wine (under the dessert wine category) was the best.. Newport Rheisling and Merlot were awesome too.

So in short, well worth your time and the drive on a sunny day will bring you out of the wintery gloom haunting your senses.

Stopped by on my vacation to Rhode Island, and tasted some really nice wines, and sent some wine home.  I really liked the selection to choose from for tastings.
