Breathtaking. Probably the prettiest street I've ever been to. It's like you're walking around in postcards.

Surely this place is in the top x things you must see before you die. x being anything from 50 to 10001.

I won't go into too much detail as it seems the other reviewers have told you what you need to know.

Anyhow. Amazing, gorgeous houses. The street I live on is supposed to be the prettiest street on the south shore of MA, but it is easily trumped by this neighborhood (obviously :D).

Definitely a place that needs to be seen!

The many times I have been to these glorious mansions, I am in awe and so will you be. This is the most beautiful attraction you will ever visit. These houses sit on beautiful Bellevue Ave which is loaded with huge houses that are occupied. The mansions sit on this street in the midst of Salve Regina College. These houses keep in mind were the summer homes of the rich and famous of the Golden Age. The houses are not all open for viewing at the same time. Some are open year round then some are only open in the summer. The Newport Preservation Society (I was a member for two years) does a great job taking care of these places! The mansions are gigantic and each is very different. The best part is they sit on the edge of a the ocean wall and behind them (this is the best part) is Cliff Walk. This path runs the entire length of this street and goes along the ocean and is something you MUST see. You can park at the end of any of the streets behind the mansions and walk along this awesome paved path and get some great pictures. The interiors of these mansions are a site to see. They are decked out in Gilded Age fashion with just remarkable style and luster and I can't even explain it. It is just spectacular and worth every penny. The houses can be purchased via tickets in a visit to three different ones or individually. I purchased a membership since it is almost cheaper to get a membership and also support this great society. You must visit these houses well in Newport! It is absolutely amazing!!

This was the most amazing neighbor I've ever laid eyes on!  I can't imagine what "keeping up with the Joneses" meant during the heyday of this area.  Various easy walks through the area are available and make it simple to survey several mansions.  Whether you choose the one that rims the edges of several backyards on one side of you and the ocean on the other or you hoof it down the center of the area on a city sidewalk, there is a lot of beautiful scenery to take in.  We visited on a whim and were not disappointed.  Newport is amazing, charming and steeped in history that I imagine involves a lot of old money.  I really enjoyed touring several mansions and imaging the parties and very different lives that were lived out in them.
