Newport Italianfest is by far one of my favorite festivals of the summer.  Not only does this event celebrate the rich cultural contributions of Italian immigrants to the Greater Cincinnati area, but some of best Italian eateries are on hand to serve up their famous dishes. Italianfest is held in June along Riverboat Row next to Newport on the Levee.

First thing I do when I arrive is hunt down the best looking piece of pizza I can find (okay, I almost always go with LaRosa's) as a starter. Next, I'm onto the lemon ice or gelato stand, depending on my mood. Then, I start my mission for the best looking entree (many are served with a small salad), which will probably set me back about $6. I've had everything from creamy vegetable lasagna to savory ravioli, and have never been disappointed by my choice. Mangia! Mangia!

The fireworks are can't miss. The display is courtesy of Rozzi's Famous Fireworks, the same pyrotechnic wizards who light up the sky for WEBN over Labor Day. Other activities include cooking classes, pizza-eating contests, live music, games, rides, and more.
