I was on a business trip in the 'burbs yesterday, and my co-worker and I were in serious need of refueling. We also had about an hour to kill before our next appointment.
I spied a Panera Bread and pulled into the shopping center, but as we drove around, we saw Newport, and decided to try that instead.
I am so glad we did! EXCELLENT coffee! I love that the regular brews for the day come in Mild or Strong. (and Decaf, but what's the point?) I love burly coffee, so I opted for the Strong, which was French Roast. Sooo good! Rich flavor, full body...my perfect cup of coffee.
After a few sips, I considered buying a pound, since Newport is a small batch roaster as well, and actually roast on the premises! They have a great selection of African, Latin American, and Indonesian blends. Unfortunately, I couldn't rationalize spending $16 on a pound of coffee. I am sure they are GREAT, but alas I am a cheapass. As much as I LURVE coffee, I just couldn't do it! They also sell their beans in half pounds, in case you simply can't resist buying some.
My co-worker ordered a latte, which she said was remarkably good. We also shared a pastry, I think it was called a Monkey Bar or Monkey Cake? It was a crumbly coffee cake. Yummy! They have the normal selection of muffins, scones, breads and biscotti.
The space itself is pretty standard. Cute bistro tables, a bar against the side wall. 2 PCs set up so you can update your facebook status to say "Michelle is drinking awesome coffee at Newport Coffee House!" while you're there. There were a few people tapping away on their laptops, and another table was chatting quietly. Nice relaxed atmosphere.
God forbid I find myself roaming around Bannockburn again! But if you live or work in the area, DEFINITELY check it out! Yay small businesses!
This is a great local spot with a coffee-centric focus. they roast their own in-house and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. I am really pleased to be able to support local businesses like this. If you know San Francisco, then you'll get my next comment. This has a Pier 41 vibe -- "what you see is what you get, we're all about coffee (and tea) and we hope you are, too."
during my college days I would come here when I wanted to avoid other people from my college or didn't feel like starbucks. its a good indie coffee shop, fun workers, great lattes (stronger than starbucks) and they have live music on occasion. also free wifi and good tea with fun names :) the only bad thing is that their chairs are not very comfy.
