This was the hotel of choice for a family wedding, so we stayed for several days just to make things easier and to be able to be close to the wedding party/ relatives.

A note - if you book far enough ahead, the pricing on their website is far more favorable than rates found on 3rd-party sites.

Some of their rooms need drastic updating (see photos). The decor screamed early 80s; duvet and carpet pretty hideous.

Service fairly pleasant - and the beach lovely.  Every day we received fliers that advertised activities like Caribbean Hair Braiding and Henna or Cooking Classes in one of the hotel restaurants.  It kind of felt like a cruise ship... there are definitely lots of activities for kids...

The beach is gorgeous, and there are kayaks available for rent.

Self parking is nonexistent, as others have mentioned -- $10 a day to park across the street or $15 valet (tip not included).

Service is pleasant - whether we were trying to get some drycleaning in just under the deadline, or requesting additional towels.

I don't think we'd stay here again unless we were offered rooms for free.

My friend and i went there to celebrate graduating!! we wanted a nice place by the beach with a nice pool, bar and some restaurants around. The place is good for families and young people looking to party. We were coming from NY so we had intention of hitting the clubs in South Beach, if you do, this may be a little far. Bus ride is about 35-50 minutes to south beach depending on traffic and a cab is about +30 dollars.

We still wanted to dance and have a good time so Kitchen 305 (bar/restaurant) was awesome. Great deals on drinks (one night it was ladies night- free for ladies from 9-12..umm yes please). during the day they have cute activities like bingo and other  games by the pool where you can win free drinks and free breakfast (so worth it). across the street there are a few stores and restaurants that are cheaper than the hotel's restaurants.

The rooms were a good size, and cozy. Could use some remodeling, but the bathrooms were new and clean so no complaints there. We also didnt have a very nice view but we hardly stayed in the rooms so we got over that.

pros: comfortable, beachside,  bar, shopping area across the street, bus really close by

con: far from south beach, dated decor (but clean)

We stayed in a standard room without a balcony.  It was nice because we didn't have to take an elevator to the room.  The elevators were often clogged with people.  It was off to the side of the hotel lobby, however there was a lot of noise in the hallways at all times of the day and night.  This is definitely a family hotel.  There were tons of kids around.  The room was bare bones as the other reviewers have mentioned.  It was relatively clean but very worn- old furniture, cheap blankets and sheets.  There was a refrigerator and microwave in the room which was helpful.

The main attraction to this hotel is the beach access.  The hotel sits right on the beach.  There is also a pool and several restaurant/bars available, so you don't really need to leave the resort much.  The food was ok quality- what you'd expect to eat at the beach- hamburgers, wraps, etc.  The drinks were strong, but expensive- they do offer a $5 drink of the day.  Most frozen drinks are about $9 each.  If you want to leave the resort for cheaper meals, there is a Subway across the street, Papa John's, Einstein's Bagels.  If you walk about a half mile north, there is a good sushi place, Denny's, McDonald's, & Pollo Tropical.  Nothing spectacular.  Also, there is a very convenient CVS right across the street.

One other thing- the hotel claims to have gone 100% smoke free, but this isn't really true because they allow smoking anywhere outside the hotel, like at the pool area and on the beach.  They really just mean inside the hotel is smoke-free.

Another tip:  If you're looking to save money on cab fares to and from the airport (It will cost a flat rate of $52 to get to the hotel), consider taking Tri-Rail from the airport to the Golden Glades stop.  It costs $2 per person.  This gets you to North Miami.  You will then have to take a cab from the Tri-Rail station to the hotel for about $25.  If you're traveling alone or with one other person, this may be worth the savings.  We saved $45 doing in this way, although you sacrifice some time and convenience.

Overall, the place wasn't so bad.  I might consider it again if I wanted to save money.

When I first walked into this hotel's lobby, i thought, "oh, nice. I am going to like this hotel." Oh man, if I only knew...

I was there with a group of 12 from work and was one of the first person to check in. The front desk completely had me switch around with the other people in my group, and even after giving them my driver's license, credit card and reservation number 4 times, they still gave me keys to a room with another roommate! Luckily, we got it all straightened out and they ended up giving me one of the only 2 rooms on the property that has complete access into the pool area from my room.

Once I got to the room I was amazed (not in a good way). The drapes in the room were gross and mis-matched, the carpet looked old, and the handles on the cabinets were falling apart. I even found a used hairbrush full of hair in the closet! I was amazed more when I looked at the rack rate on the back of my door and saw that my room goes for over $800 a night! For THIS room?

If you don't care about where you want to sleep, if you want to be between Ft Lauderdale and Miami, and if you want a hotel that has a pool and access to a beach, I guess this would be the hotel for you. Otherwise, if you want to impress or go somewhere with a little more class, then, don't stay here.

good: location is great; oceanside with cute little huts and beach chairs, towel stand, water activities center, etc; poolside bar, and live dj

bad: horrible customer service; not friendly, not helpful; didnt speak english all that well

good: in-house club playing hip hop music (rare in miami lol)

bad/good: i've learned from other hotel guests that the hotel is under renovation, so some rooms are really old, but some are freshly built

bad: had to pay $10/night for parking across the street. other option would have been $15/night for valet

but all the bad aside, the room was clean and the price is perfect for budget-conscious travellers.

I reserved a room as part of a hotwire package for 3 people.  They checked us into a room with one bed, no microwave or fridge, not what we expected from hotwire's description.  The room was ridiculously ugly and the sheets were dirty... my friend: 'is that frosting on the bedsheet?' other friend 'idk, let me touch it...'  We called housekeeping and got mad attitude, and hung up on us.  Twice.  Front desk switched our room, (they admitted they had checked us into the wrong room) and I have never been happier to see a normal, clean, standard hotel room... I'm guessing that half the hotel has been remodelled.  When asked, they comped us our valet parking ($15 a day!) for some troubles we had with the tub and checking in.  The shopping center across the street with food and a drug store was very convenient.  The concierge was a pretty cool dude, used to play in a band at the hotel.  He gave us some good tips on where to eat and a couple places to go.

We did not stay around the hotel much, aside from a couple days at the beach, which was conveniently accessible from the pool, and one night at the hotel bar.  Pretty decent bar, great DJ that night.  Other than that, it was our first time to Miami and next time we'd stay much closer to South Beach where all the action is.

It is a decent hotel, but you can probably do better.

I'm not sure if my stay was abnormal for this place but I have absolutely nothing to complain about.  I'm not one of those people that complains about the water draining slow in the shower so take this review for what it's worth.  The location is awesome, right on the Beach in a more quiet part of town (North Miami Beach).  We checked in on a Sunday night.  You either have to self-park across the street for $10 night or use valet for $15 night.  The self-park lot is not exactly right across the street, it's behind another shopping plaza and you have to cross a 6 lane highway (A1A) to get to it.  Is this really worth it for a savings of $5??  Anyway on the topic of the valet, never had a problem.  They opened the doors of the car for my wife and I when we arrived and they promptly retrieved my car when requested.  I had booked a city-view suite on travelocity and paid ~$450 for five nights this really can't be beat.  When we arrived on Sunday night they had trouble finding a room for us so I think we were upgraded.  We ended up in a suite with two king beds, an ocean view balcony, two full bathrooms a kitchenette and a jacuzzi next to the master bed.  We asked for a crib for our daughter and they were at our door within 5 minutes with a crib and clean sheets for it.

I can't speak much for the activities as I was on a business trip and out of the hotel most of the time.  My dw said that the pool and beach are were very nice.  I did catch a glimpse of the sunrise one morning and I would agree.  There are a few shops across the street (Marshalls, CVS, Starbucks) as well as  few eateries but nothing spectacular (Papa Johns, Tony Roma's, Einstein Bagels)

We liked this place so much that we are thinking about coming back just to spend a long relaxing weekend in the sun.

Again it's not the Ritz-Carlton, but it's also not a Day's Inn.  This is probably the nicest hotel that I have stayed in for ~$80 a night.

The only thing going for this hotel is the beach access, otherwise very disappointing.  When we got to our room, the first thing we noticed was this funky odor; like wet dog married with moldy carpet.  They were very good about switching rooms for us, but claimed not to smell anything weird (perhaps they're used to it).  Not sure who decorated the rooms but I'm sure it was back in the 70s and hasn't been touched since.

This is definitely a budget hotel, but if you're not going to spend much time in the room and want to spend every minute at the pool or beach, then this place will do.  It's clean, the staff are pleasant and it's very family friendly.  At least the wireless is free.

Great hotel is you just go in, sleep, eat, and use the facilities. If you need to request a service or report a problem, forget it. Management is nowhere to be found and the people at the desk have absolutely no authority. One area that stands out for special problems is the Business Center. Forget abut trying to use the computers - they don't work most of the time. But you have to swipe your credit card first to use the computer. When it doesn't work, they have no authority (not even management) to refund your miney as it is a separate vendor (or so I was told). See nothing, say nothing, do nothing. I was there for one week in January 2009.

If you are on a budget and want to vacation in South Florida this is the place to stay. The Newport Beachside Resort is conveniently located between Fort Lauderdale and Miami. I recently spent a weekend here to just relax. This place is extremely kid friendly with activities for the whole family. I had a blast doing the limbo.. I came soooo close to winning but my back had other ideas. The rates are reasonable and the rooms are well maintained. I wouldnt recommend buying drinks at the bar and B.Y.O.B. since the prices are a bit high.
