Came here for a conference this past three days and the place was clean and people were nice. Too bad the weather wasn't so nice and I didn't really have time to swim around in the three pools. They have this contemporary restaurant called Sam and Harry's which was pretty good.

The bad parts of what I didn't like was the fact that our rooms were entrance via the outside and maybe that is because we booked late but I didn't care for stepping out in the cold to get to my room. Also the room didn't have a towel rack for my own towel which was a bummer.

From the outside, it looks like an old run down Marriott. But once you walk around, you'll discover that the Marriott has more offer ie, pool, bar/lounge, restaurant and etc.

The negatives:
- the shower. the water level builds quickly because the shower floor is flat. its kind of inconvenient when all the water rinsing off your body is at ankle level.
- towel rack: there's no place to hang up towels. that was unfortunately disappointing.
- the all you can eat breakfast bar: after breakfast, i had to pay an urgent visit to the toilet. i blame the omelette.

The positives:
- good TV channels: i stayed late at night  watching E.T. and The Good Son
- staff is friendly and courteous
- nice spot for a wedding. i enjoyed the patio area for the appetizers and open bar.

First of all, this hotel was definately NOT "two blocks from the beach" as indicated on their website.

Hotel was alright, room was clean, staff wasn't rude and shopping is right across the street.
Just make sure to double check your room service orders. I'm still boggled by how they messed up our order. It's not that hard, people. A diet sprite, a combo 12" pizza and a fruit/cheese platter. We received a non-diet Sierra Mist and just the fruit/cheese platter. What if I was diabetic? And where is our pizza? We called and they have no pizza on the order. The kitchen was closing so we didn't get our pizza. =/

Relaxing at the pool was the highlight of my stay. They had a bar opened with live entertainment. It wasn't too crowded but there were a few too many kids for my liking.
Not sure if I'll be back if I EVER choose to come back to Newport.

Not much to do in Newport Beach. Besides having a decent beach, we were bored out of our mind here!

A fine hotel indeed.  The woman checking us in was very helpful and pleasant.  Upon entering our room, we noticed it smelled, well...let's just say, someone had a rough night of drinking, perhaps?  So we immediately called the front desk and they happily switched us to another room with the same fantastic view.  The view is truly amazing overlooking the pool, the golf course and further out to the ocean.  The beds were comfy and the bathrooms were clean and spacious.  The pool/spa looked very enticing and we wish we could have taken advantage of it but we were on a time crunch.  All in all, I thought this was a fantastic hotel for what we paid, just wish parking was included, but at least my fellow yelpers had prepared me for that ahead of time.  We'd happily stay here again.

I had to stay here for a business event. Eew! This place was pretty gross!

Don't let the front desk fool you.  The front desk/reception area looked okay...but the room was pretty icky.  The rooms were a lot smaller than the photos.  I despised the sliding bathroom door...and all the extra doors in the room that led to "connecting" rooms - creepy!

The "oceanside" view?  Yeah, I could see the ocean way-way-way off in the distance...ha!  The place reminded me of the inside of the Embassy Suites in Burlingame...but not as nice, and so yeah...eew.  I'd say it had a motel vibe.

ONE star for the nice employees. They were all pretty cool.
ONE star for the breakfast/brunch buffet - which was pretty grubbing!

Definitely, a good place to have breakfast, but not that great of a place to want to stay again.  However, the Hyatt down the street looked pretty nice.

The folks who think this place is 4-5 stars have very low expectations.  I mean, yeah, it's 5-stars compared to the Motel 6...but get real! lol

PS
If you have a banquet there, they have pretty good dessert...the food, not-too-great.

pretty nice, we had an upgraded corner room with a view so it was nice.
the bed was super comfy and the view was beyond nice!
the bathroom was on the small side, but the walk in shower was nice.

too bad we were only there for a night, we really wanted to check out the lounge/sushi bar.

the restaurant on site Sam and Harry's was yummy. i'll review that next. good view and really good food.

loved that there multiple pools to choose from...
i like this place, the room was very relaxing, i can't say it enough.
it was also a plus that we could see the fireworks from our balcony.

Room service was great! Two bud lights (cause I knew I'd want another after it closed) and a cookie assortment. I would skip the ice cream sundae though, it was small. It's hard to be a portrait of class and grace sometimes.

My only complaint was the jacuzzi wasn't that warm, and by that I mean I take a hotter shower every day. Sorry, Earth. Oh and the little 19 year old in the jacuzzi who was pissed that she couldn't get drinks brought to her like at the St. Regis (direct quote) while her boyfriend informed us that it is improper to say San Francisco is in Northern California, because only Arcata is.

I stayed here for a week over this past Christmas with my boyfriend while we visited my family.  My mom had recently downsized her home since all her little chickies had flown the coup.  So since my 2 younger sisters were home from college visiting as well, and the new house is only 2 beds, my boyfriend and I were lucky enough to stay at the Marriott.  I mean come on, I am the oldest, I deserve.

We had a lot of Marriott points or miles or whatever you want to call them so we actually only ended up paying for 4 of the 9 days, or something like that.  We had a great room with an excellent view.  Right over the pool we had a lush landscape of the golf course that expanded into Balboa Island and the bay.  Quite beautiful.

The beds were extremely comfortable and I loved their pillows.

There was a little miscommunication one morning when I ordered room service and said that it was for 2 people so to double the amount of food and charge me twice as much or whatever blah blah blah.  And when the breakfast arrived the next morning it was only for one person.  The grapefruit with the carmelized brown sugar on top was one of the best thhings I have eaten in recent memory.

Stayed here while attending a fraternity reunion across the street at Fashion Island. Had some of the guys back to hang out and BS till 5a and didn't hear a complaint from anyone.

Nice room, comfy bed, flat screen HDTV, walk-in shower. Got upgraded to an ocean view in the newer tower which was a plus. Staff/Valet were very friendly. Parked and was in my room within 10 minutes. Check-in was a breeze.

I've seen people complain about paying for parking, but that is the way it is. Deal with it.

Didn't eat on property so can't speak to the restaurants.

Would definitely stay here again.

Fancy Schmancy! Why, yes. Service was excellent. Prices were steep. But the view...............Ooooooweeee, amazing! We had a view of all the city lights and accompanied with the cool ocean breeze. Makes a girl feel really special.

Also bumped into one of the NBA teams who were playing in town. Now, that's what you call ''baller'' status when staying at the Newport Beach Marriott.

Won't go back.  This is one of the most expensive hotels in the area so you would think it would be great.  Not for us.  The first room they put us in was advertised as an "Ocean View"; it did not look out on the ocean, but on a small inlet of the bay.  It reeked of tobacco smoke (in a non-smoking hotel), so we asked for a room change.  They had no other Ocean Views, so put us in a "Garden View", which overlooked the golf course.  I then had to negotiate the price down since it's a cheaper room.  Then the room only had one bath towel.  Both rooms were extremely humid - which is weird for an air conditioned hotel.  I expected more for $200/night - and have gotten much more from $125/night at other hotels.

Yeah yeah.... I live in Orange County but I stayed here with some friends recently.

Possibly the best sleep I have had in a long time...  Waking up wrapped in the down comforter that was extra fluffy and the pillows... (sigh)...  The drapes in the room block all sun out which makes it easier to sleep in.  When I finally woke up I walked out to the balcony. We had a nice view of the ocean.. (we were not on the ocean but we could see it)... Breakfast in bed would of made it better.... (sigh)... Oh, yeah the room itself was nice. Large television screen but we didn't watch any TV........ The place was just comfy..... The bathroom.... LOVE THOSE SHOWER DOORS! Extra stars for toiletries. They use Bath & Body Works shampoo, conditioner and body lotion...  The best part was the fact that I woke up without the noise of my dogs waking me in the morning....  It was a nice little escape.....

For those people who are on holiday.. This place is across the street from Fashion Island.. So, tons of shopping!

Probably one of the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in. I had a couple nights stay here due to a business meeting in Southern California. Let's start with the staff.

The service staff here is first notch and extremely helpful. Everyone from the shuttle service, front desk, bell boys, and maids are really helpful. Just to give you an example, this hotel is pretty big and has several different rooms and levels for conferences. If you ask for directions, they don't point you in the direction, they walk you there.

They have tennis courts, a dinner area, bar, and even their own Starbucks. The gym here is nice and every exercise machine had it's own personal TV. There's a golf course near by and you're within walking distance to the Fashion Mall.

Let's talk about the rooms. The rooms here are extremely nice, large, and clean. Some hotels hide the dust, this place completely removes the dust. The rooms come with a HiDef TV, a nice large bed that is very comfortable, and a nice work area and desk. Even the coat/pant hangers in the closet are nice. The bathroom also very nice and everything is done in granite (or slate or some fancy rock material). No bath tub, but the shower is plenty nice.

Here is my only complaint about Newport Beach Hotel, they nickle and dime you here. They do have wifi but you have to pay like $10 for it. Now I can understand if I was at the Motel 8 paying $60 a night, but at $275 (at a group discount), you can at least throw in free internet. Also I was helping out running a conference and everything here is very expensive and IMO overpriced.

Nothing wrong with charging for first class service and product, but the do seem to overcharge for example it was about $75 for coffee and tea service.

Would i come back, yes I would come back. The Newport Beach Marriott Resort is an extremely nice hotel with service that is unparalled in this industry. The only thing that is preventing me from giving them a 5 star rating is that they do nickle and dime you here and at $200+ rooms, there really is no need to do that. Overall 4 Star and highly recommended.

Fan-say!

This is baller status right here. Rooms are clean and upscale, LCD TV's in each room. The regular rooms are not that big but I saw the "Honeymoon Suite" which was two stories! It span across 12th to 14th floor (no lucky 13). But all the rooms had an excellent view of the back bay and the Newport Peninusla.

The pool area was great for kids or drunk 20 somethings. Large pool . Spa with table in the middle for drinks. Badmitton court. Ping Pong table under a tent. AND A FULL BAR! Leave the wife shopping across the street and hang out with the kiddies all day.

The Newport Marriott is a mixed bag with a little something for everyone. Beds are comfortable, some rooms have a nice view of the ocean while others, not so much. The pool area is filled with kids running around high on ice cream. The bar area has cool fire pits and good drinks. And breakfast is really nice. Fresh juice and breads. I was impressed. It's also across the street from some great shopping.

I would not call this hotel luxurious but its comfortable, clean, and well maintained. Seems to be a good spot for weddings and conventions. One of the groomsmen at one wedding puked in the elevator and people were hooking up left and right in the bar. Party central!

I was here for a conference on Objectivism (the philosophy of Ayn Rand) for a week.   The lobby is nice; the painting of the ocean waiter behind the bell stand along with the night light fountain aglow outside are nice to watch if you're waiting around.

Upon arrival in the afternoon our room was not ready so they sent us to the bar for a free non-alcoholic smoothie.  I really would rather not have 2000 sugar calories of girly drink that doesn't even contain a single shot of vodka; give me a beer dammit.  Even the Holiday Inn would have given you a beer.  Note: I feel sorry for the bartender that clearly has to make this effort intensive crap drink 50 times in an afternoon.  The rooms were nothing special and mine was a solid 10 minute walk from the lobby.

The events opened with cocktails on the Seaview terrace; it has a beautiful elevated over the golf course view... the sea is rather far.  It was a nice setup and enjoyable to eat appetizers, take advantage of the open bar and mingle (and by mingle I mean hang out at one of the black cloth draped bar tables).

Being across from Fashion Island is ok but tiresome after a week of the same food options and little to do but shop.

The outside gas fire pits with comfy seating areas were the place to be after dinner to drink and enjoy the company and conversation of friends.  However, this area closes early (at variable times, maybe 11pm) as this an the pool area are within earshot of part of the hotel which is infuriating as its the best place to go.  Service outside was super spotty and often they would give a last call order, show up 10 minutes later, hand you your drink and then kick you out.  If the time the patio closes can't be changed, then adjust your timing of last call policy, etc.  I did complain about this and was offered some alternatives but it's just not even close.  It was a decent but not great place to watch the fireworks for the Fourth of July; next time I will take the free shuttle to the beach.

This review will focus on staying here for a wedding I attended in August 08. The first thing that stood out was the great location, right across from Fashion Island.  The views from the rooms were spectacular!  Since I was able to see multiple rooms I can honestly say that any room from the third floor up will give you a spectacular sight.  Every room has a balcony, even if some are only a foot long it's enough to stare out in the evening with your significant other.

We also spent some time by the pool swimming, playing badmington and table tennis which is all conveniently set up for any guest!  They held a cocktail hour for us before entering the reception hall outdoors on a nice grassy area with cobbled stones dispersed intermitently. The reception hall we had housed about 130 guests give or take and had plenty of room for a large dance floor.  The little sleep that I was able to get was pleasant, staff was curteous and would highly recommend it for special ocassions.  It is a bit pricey but I am positive that for the area it is priced right!

So I gave them only 2 stars since we had a false fire alarm at 1030p on the last night of a 3 night stay. Not only was it poorly run when they finally shut if off they came on the loudspeaker in everyone's room to tell everyone it was a false alarm. This would be fine accept for the annoying loud drone of a sound that came out for at least a few minutes before and after their 5sec. announcement. This experience did not instill me with that much confidence in their staff, at the time, to handle this kind of situation.

Also their hot tub was not that hot, the bed's pillow top, which was comfortable, stabbed me with its feathers here and there, and everything closes way too early for adults.

The gym was ok but missing some attachments for their nautilus.

Parking costs $18/day and you have to keep getting these tickets at the entrance which is confusing but the attendant said their from an old system and we could throw them away.

If you stay in room 645 is small and weirdly shaped. Also it sounded like their were hard wood floors either from the upstairs of adjacent hallway. Every time someone walked by it sounded like they were in heels.

The pools were nice and the staff was friendly.

The location if alright if you like the mall, otherwise you need a car to escape Fashion Island!!!

Nice, clean room for a decent price.  The spa is good, too -- nice facilities, including a sauna, saltwater whirlpool and eucalyptus steam room.  My massage was good, not great, which was disappointing, but the facilities almost made up for it.

The staff is friendly, but a bit clueless -- they don't seem to know much about the hotel's policies, especially the rather confusing self-park procedure.  Oh, and don't go to the restaurant for breakfast unless you want to share it with a bunch of screaming kids (or maybe that was just because it was a holiday weekend...).

Overall, though, it's a good place to stay, and I'd go back if I needed to go to Newport Beach again.

I've stayed here a few times over the last 9 months or so.  The most recent time was four days last week (early December) and ended with my company holiday party at the hotel.

Overall I think they have done a really great job with the renovation.  The common areas are all modern and upscale -- the lobby, the lounge and the meeting spaces.  The pool area is large, but nothing special.  The rooms are fairly standard Marriott design -- which is good.  Of the three rooms I've stayed in, one had a 42 inch plasma (I heard that they are adding these to all the rooms).

If you're going to be travelling to Newport Beach on business I would definitely recommend this hotel.  The location is extremely convenient to any of the businesses located in Newport Center and there is a lot more going on here than any of the hotels near John Wayne airport.  I like the fact that when I was in the lounge on Wednesday night last week having drinks with a few colleagues it was quite lively -- good atmosphere.  Also, if you like to shop, Fashion Island is just across the street (all kinds of shops, restaurants, movies, etc.)

I stayed here for a conference and had a good experience. The rooms were small but clean. I was a little let down because I was expecting a resort and spa and those were afterthoughts at this hotel. Overall the service was great, food was good, and location was nice (right across the street from fashion fair mall). If you drive here, be warned they charge 18 dollars per night for self service parking. It's ridiculous because this isn't downtown LA,  there is plenty of room for parking.

This is a really nice, serene place.  I was a bridemaid for a wedding and I spent the night here in a comfy room sleeping one of the most softest, spacious hotel beds that I've ever been in, which made it difficult for me to get up at 6 AM the following morning.  The actual wedding took place at a cathedral, but we returned to the hotel later that day for the reception and banquet.  The design of the facilities and lobby area is what you'd call grand-definitely, opt for the resort wear, or in my case, my bridesmaid dress which happened to be really cute.  The food at the reception and banquet  was superb  If I visited the OC more frequently, I'd come back here just for the food.

I think this is the place we stayed at.  We pulled in and there was an army of exotic cars all parked out front.  The place is nice but old.  It appears to have been renovated recently and is pretty modern.  The rooms are kind of small and the bathroom doors do not have locks which is kind of a pain when you come with your extended family and all the adjoining rooms have doors in between.  The corridors to the rooms are outside and in the fall/winter it's kind of chilly.  They do heat the outdoor pool and there is a large spa.  A golf course is next door and they have an indoor massage-type spa that looks nice but it beats me where the tennis courts are.  There is a large shopping mall across the street with plenty of restaurants if you don't want to go to the steakhouse at the hotel.  Also, if you are thinking you'll be anywhere near the beach or Balboa Island, you'll be disappointed.  Rooms are about $200/night which is probably a bargain in that neck of the woods.

This is a really nice Marriott.  We went to a wedding here on Saturday night and it was outside in a garden with a gazebo and a view of the ocean (by Fashion Island, who knew?).  There were tray passed apps and also cheese and fruit platters.  Then we were led inside to the ballroom.  The service was excellent (though we did feel a bit rushed through the 5 course meal, but I don't think that was the hotel's fault).  We ended up with a free room (one of the groomsmen had to work the next morning) - score!  It was tastefully decorated and also with an ocean view.  The toiletries were Bath and Body Works and the turn down service was a box of truffles.  We didn't get to try out the spa but the lobby smelled like lavender and there was a place you could get cups of water flavored with strawberries and mint.  Nicely done Marriott!
