Loaded up with excellent road food options here before trekking across the desert to Boise. This is the last place with brown rice sushi for many, many hot miles. We also got a wide selection of iced teas. It is a magical thing to be stuck in construction traffic outside of Burns in the middle of a sea of sagebrush and whip out a salmon, yellow tail, shrimp roll and an ice cold sencha tea.

Who needs whole foods when you have Newport?

Conveniently located near downtown.

Really nice store but way too expensive.  Deli and hot food case very disappointing.  Organic section a bit weak.  Meat section very good. Only go there if price is no object, though.

Good stuff.  I had their soup for lunch the other day- mushroom barley- yum.  This is a great place for some great stuff.  Service ALWAYS fantastic and food quality is great.

Sushi they have there is some of the best "store" sushi options in bend.

Patronized them twice today for the first time.  Stopped by and found my tea and soap I wanted and scoped a few cute girls.  Nice place.

Second time, brought home Sushi and snacks for dinner, perfect!

This place is like most granola places, Expensive.  The only difference is it has a bit more of a local feel to it.

We happened to stay across the street from this market during a recent vacation to Bend. My husband headed over to get beer for our deck-time and came back tittering about the excellent selection (we're beer snobs, too). We had to stop back the next morning so I could see. The entire store is hand-picked and very unique. You will not find the horrible candy stands at the check-out here.
I recently discovered that the store is owned by the parent's of a friend of mine. This is the only market you'll need if visiting Bend.

This is really the only place to shop in Bend if you want specialty food. The people there are mostly nice - but specifically the people in the cheese department are the best! They are so nice, and they are very helpful...

Sandwiches, sushi, and paninis are great - if you're looking for a quick fix for lunch. It's relatively cheap, and the quality is good.

Of course, the number one problem with this place (and Bend in general) is that it's expensive. Of course, I know... it's expensive due to the freight. What can I say, I want it all. :)

While my boyfriend and I call this the 'yuppie' supermarket, we do so with gentle adoration, for this type of store is unheard of where we live.  An independent (well, compared to the Safeways of the world) market that features an assortment of wines, cheeses (mmm, don't get me started on the cheese counter), produce and things I'd categorize as 'food gifts'?  You'd have to drive to Sacramento at the very least.

I'd give this place a 5 star rating were it not for the fact that most sundry items are far more expensive here than at other big-box stores.  However, cruising through the store with gluttony and desire in my eyes, I tend to overlook that.

Items I've found there that are worth the cost include fresh fish  (I've *never* seen seabass at my local Safeway), wine, chocolate (ok, the organic stuff is cheaper than at my local health food store) and the cheese (oh, the cheese!).  Produce, not so much (meh), unless you're in the market for specialty items (giant portobello mushrooms, for example).

But I love visiting there at least once a trip to Bend, for I feel almost like I'm back in San Francisco.  Almost....

Unique offerings and outstanding customer service make the Newport Avenue Market stand out above other grocery stores.

Their wine selection is expansive. They have a wine steward on staff and offer tastings via their "Thirsty Thursday" event. Whether you are a snob or a newbie, it's worth checking out.

The beer selection is also varied and outstanding. Many regional microbrews are featured.

The deli counter, sushi, fresh meats, and cheese selection are outstanding. When I was there recently, they had no fewer than ten (ten!) varieties of brie.

Gourmet items abound. If you can't find it - they will happily order it for you.

Organic and other fresh produce are plentiful.

Standard groceries are overpriced, but that is not the draw. If you are looking for something special for a party or occasion... or if you are just a foodie... Newport Ave is a haven of quality.

During our recent visit to Bend, we enjoyed dinner at our friends home one evening and our first stop was to pick up some things from the  Newport Avenue Market.  I was impressed by this place right away!  Living in SoCal, we're used to grocery and specialty food stores with a great selection of cheeses, wine, meats, etc.  So after discovering all the delicious and unique things the NAM had to offer, I was convinced I could move to Bend and be happy. :)  The prices are a bit higher than your usual chain grocery store but their selection makes it  all worth it.  Extensive wine and cheese choices, baked goods, large deli counter, fresh meats and seafoods, and GREAT customer service!

Newport Avenue Market is the best grocery store in Bend! If there are any natural food items that you can't find there, then try Devore's across the street. While you're in the neighborhood its easy to check out other nearby shops and Nancy P's Bakery. Bon appetite!
