Their French Roast whole bean coffee, get it from Costco. That's all you need to know. You will not be disappointed.

Of course, it helps if you like dark roast. If you don't, disregard this review.

    Thank you.

Not only is this coffee amazing, but Mitch is a wonderful philanthropist. I love supporting local businesses that give back and this is definitely a giver.  It's so great to see from where it blossomed from...a little coffee house to where they are now...Pumpkin Spice is my absolute favorite!

This was the only coffee I drank for almost 2 years! When I was out in the L.A. area it was much easier to come by... all I would have to do was go to Costco and pick some up. Since I moved back to Texas, online ordering is the only way to get my hands on this stuff without visiting California.

I love that Newhall Coffee is a micro-roasting company, so most of the coffee beans you buy from the retail store was roasted relatively recently. One time, I bought beans that had been roasted that same day and the coffee was SO good!

My favorite varieties come out around the winter holiday months. The Peppermint Mocha and the Pumpkin are delicious! I can't get enough of the Kenya AA, Sumatra and the Costa Rican SHB for daily drinking. At $10.00/lb., that's a pretty premium price for coffee but worth every penny.

The best coffee ever roasted!!  It's smooth, creamy, rich in flavor!  I love Newhall Coffee!  My hope is that some day there will be more Java n Jazz shops out there than there are Starbucks.  Come on, Mitch, get the move on!  :)

    Dear Newhall Coffee,

    Thank you.

Seriously though, you guys have managed to completely justify my continuing Costco membership through your excellent French Roast, and what a price!

I've had two food production fantasies in my life: roasting coffee and brewing beer, and while you've admittedly done little for the latter (aside from some ideas in the way of a particular porter), your story and the end result has been nothing but inspiration.  Plus, you're actually fun to follow on twitter!

    Keep up the good work.

Here's how it started:  a very friendly fellow named Mike was offering free samples of Newhall coffee at Gelson's grocery store in Pacific Palisades, where I went today to take photos for Yelp.  The coffee was so delicious.......then I found out it is made from organic (USDA certified) & fair trade beans!   WELL, I told Mike to pose for a picture because his company is about to be reviewed on Yelp.  From that point, it just got better and better.  I found out that Newhall is a small mom-and-pop micro roasting company with just 12 employees.  They use only the top 1% grade A arabica bean (did I get that right?)  The product is hand-crafted in small batches to control the quality of the roast.  Newhall is setting aside a portion of profits in an attempt to raise 1 million dollars to donate to the Leukemia Society (a personal story is behind this campaign).  Newhall Coffee is available online direct or at Costco, Vons, Ralphs, Gelson's, Albertson's & more.  Mike, you look great in the photo and those coffee spots on your shirt don't even show....just like I told you they wouldn't.  Pleasure to meet you and thanks for the great coffee!!

whoa, guess im giving Newhall Coffee a bump.

hmmm, where to start.  well, ive been having their coffee sent directly to my house now for about 3 years (yes, they deliver! 2x 1lb bags a month) and i cant complain one bit.  i like it all, it's reasonably priced, you know its fresh because they frick'n roast it in the SCV (i love stopping by in their place in the Valencia industrial center - mmmm, smell the freshness), and its not burnt to all hell like 5-Bucks is.

what else is there to say?  damn the man.  refuse assimilation.  support local business.  and besides, its good stuff too.

this stuff is SMOOOOOOOOTH.  it's the other great way to jump start your day.  ya know, like, after a shower... ; )

i forget how we started on this stuff but whether it's whole bean or pre-grinded, it's still very flavorful.  we've been living in this corner of l.a. for almost 2 yrs and this is one of the few pleasant finds of the area. =|

like a previous reviewer mentioned you can get  a few months worth of coffee for around $10 at the Canyon Country Costco (select flavors of whole bean only).  OR i've found that ralphs in the area also regularly put them on sale for less than $5 in the smaller size where they carry more varieties, and most, if not all, are ground.

if you're not close to SCV or know where that is, try looking in gelson's markets or ck out newhall roasting co's website for the next stop in their tasting tour.

what's been brewing in our house?
    -hawaiian hazelnut
    -vanilla bean

can't wait to try them all!

Love the french roast coffee! very smooth! Great price at Costco too. Less than half the price of the Starbucks that they sell there and its way better. We love seeing your coffee up in Mammoth too and love to support local businesses (when they're good!)

BEST COFFEE EVER!! I have enjoyed this Coffee for at least 6 years! I will drink no other. When I travel I grind my beans and put it in sandwich bags to use in hotel coffee pots My morning fave is Firehouse blend. It is strong, bold and kicks your Butt first thing in the morning!.
I order on line so I can get it as fresh as possible. I recently found it at the Costco Marina Del Rey(French Roast 32 0z $3.50...YAY!!) I GRABBED UP 6 BAGS IMMEDIATELY!! once AGAIN LOVE THIS COFFEE!!

Thanks to Joan S. for her historical info on Newhall Coffee
which is an example of a sucessful family run business serving
up quality coffee and not afraid of competition from the Starbucks
on every corner.  I have been an avid fan since a co-worker brought it to work claiming that since we live in Santa Clarita Valley we
should support the local businesses and that it was coffee
good enough to rival Starbucks.  He was right and I am hooked.
I love bargains so I purchase from Costco or Sam's Club where
I purchase 2 lbs for about 11.00 but they do not offer all the
available flavors. One of my favs is Snickerdoodle which is in opposition to my husband's favorite of hawaiian hazelnut.  During the holidays, we tried the Peppermint Mocha and it was delicious.  Buy it
as whole beans and grind it yourself or at the store to ensure freshness.  Also try the Toasted Southern Pecan and/or Cinnamon & Vanilla flavors, yummy.  Check out their website: http://www.newhallcoff...
