The Newes (spelled wrong on this site) is a great place.
The menu varies by year. I was worried when the Harborview bought them, but it's still OK.
A nice variety of beers, though it gets packed.
And please bring back the grilled chicken sandwich even though us regulars know we can still order it.
Well priced pub food. Calamri came with fried jalepenos. Didn't see that comin. Not my thing but everything: awesome. Send me your wooden nickels
The News is my favorite restaurant on the island. What makes it so great is its small size and really cozy atmosphere. The pub-style food is mouthwatering and they have a big beer selection. The service is really friendly despite the fact that they are always busy. Everything on the menu is great and although in the summer you might have to wait, trust me, it's worth it.
Went here for lunch in the off-season. It's a very cool atmosphere and we had high hopes. Honestly, it was one of our more regrettable meals on the island, as we left spending $60 for lunch for 2 people and we weren't really bowled over by it.
The thing that left a very bad taste in my mouth, however, was that when our meals arrived, our server asked if we wanted another soda. We both said yes and she took our current soda glasses. And then, apparently, forgot about us. We got through our entire meal with nothing on the table to drink (not even water), unable to get our server's attention to fix the situation. When she finally saw empty plates, she went "Oh that's right- your sodas!" and brought them over as she cleared our lunch plates.
I understand these things happen and I wasn't going to give it another thought until we got the bill and saw that she had CHARGED US for those 2 refills. Had we not been running dangerously close to running out of our 2 hour time limit in the parking lot, we would have said something but we weren't going to risk a ticket for $5 worth of sodas.

This place is as cool as you can get on the Vineyard. It is a small English style pub that features some of the best bar food and beer on the island. It is small, so expect a line on the busy weekends but well worth it. Great burgers, fish and chips, and the like... They serve french fries (reg or curly) in a brown paper bag that is big enough for the whole table. The desserts aren't bad either. A friendly staff and cool decor make this place a must when you are in town. Ahh and don't forget the beer. They have a good variety of draft beer from around the world ( my favorite is their own news light) and gigantic 26 ounce mugs to drink them from. Not sure what beer you want, no problem. They offer a "rack" of beers were you can choose to taste 5 different types. If you go at night, don't be scared if you get a tap on the shoulder and no one is there. The news pub is part of the Haunted Kelly House Hotel. (By the way, this is were Spielberg and the rest of the crew stayed while filming JAWS on the island) If for some reason you do come across the ghost, buy him a tall, i think he likes Guinness.

I love this place. It is right on a side street in the best part of The Vineyard. There is a good mix of locals and tourists. It is a very friendly welcoming environment. At times I have had to wait for a seat other times they seem to move people right along. Either way there is always a pleasant crowd in there. Make sure to stalk up on your wooden nickels. If you drink enough and save your nickels you could be part of there honorary club.
The news is a popular place. And, strangly, the cheap looking burgers and other lunch menus go well with their beer selections. It is a total experience. So, I recommend this place to the visitors.
The News is a cozy little pub with great atmosphere that I make sure to visit every time I go to Martha's Vineyard. It's a small restaurant, with exposed wood beams and a fire place, which they light in the winter. The pub stools at the bar have name plates of loyal patrons names, and the back of their menu has fun trivia about Martha's Vineyard.
The bar has a wide selection of beer, and also offers the "rack of beer," which is tasting glasses of your choice of five beers. The food is killer. Plenty of comfort food, and there fried come in brown paper bags. Really, you can't go wrong, no matter what you order. Yum!
