"THAS A GOOO BACKHAN!" - Robert Chen

That is what i will always remember when Masta Robert Chen of the NYTTF witnessed me blaze a backhand past my foe, Drew Toal, staff writer for Time Out New York. Drew and I traveled around nyc testing out new york's finest table tennis establishments and this was by far the best. Not only because it felt like it was some place where you felt they held late night ping pong tournaments in which the loser got killed, but because the best talent was training there. There wasn't a non-asian in sight! Have you seen the movie Rounders? Where they play poker in John Malkovich's basement?  Its top secret like that except with better lighting and of course ping pong.  You have to take an elevator to get down there. It doesn't get any better than this. but bring your A game. All first timers shoudl go to Slate or the tables at Stuytown.

Wow,  I didn't think it existed. A Ping Pong Parlor. AWESOME. Seriously,  it was exactly as you imagine it. A long, well lit room. A row of Table Tennis (or Ping Pong, they call them table tennis) tables.  A guy sitting there,  in front of a box of paddles and NYTTF branded, neon colored Ping Pong Balls. Its relatively cheap,  18 bucks an hour,  and that includes paddles and balls aplenty.  It also looks like they host birthday parties,  and that they are closed on sunday evenings, to allow the NYU Table Tennis Team practice time.  It was pretty amazing,  the games looked pretty intense,  and there were players of all ages.  They host tournaments every monday night,  and I imagine that there are things on many other nights. No sign of Table Tennis hustlers,  but I imagine we were a little early for that.  Anyway,  check it out for an evening of Ping Pong and fun!!!!!
