After a long evening last night and waking up at 4:45am to visit the porcelain god, I had a lunch craving for pizza on an empty stomach and a slight hangover.

There were a few pizza joints I haven't visited, so I decided to give New York Pizza a whirl. Every time I walked past the pizzeria, I saw a specials stand advertising $7.99 for a pizza, salad and soda. I walked in around 2:15pm today and went in to order. They have an extensive menu list of sandwiches, salads, pasta, pizza slices, sides, flat breads, desserts, and beverages. On their combo menu, I saw 4 choices for $7.99 each and include #1: Pasta, Garlic Bread & Soda, #2: Mini Pizza, Salad & Soda, #3: Gyro, Salad & Soda, or #4 Sandwich, Salad & Soda.

I chose the #2 and since I picked up a Specialty topping pizza, I paid an additional $1. $8.99 plus tax totaled $9.82 for my dine-in lunch meal. I was given a medium sized fountain drink and directed along the side wall for my self serve salad bar. The dressings include Ranch, Italian, and Blue Cheese. I wished they had Thousand Island dressing (-1 star). In a few minutes, an order came out which looked like two huge slices of All Meat pizza and almost 1 foot long. The server mistakenly gave me someone else's order and was immediately pulled from my sight as soon as the cashier corrected him. Another few minutes passed and I got my order. It was a small pizza. [see pic]

I picked up one out of four slices and saw the gooey stingy cheese. The first few bites were salty and became less salty as I became accustomed to the taste. Sauce was sizzling hot as I burned my tongue. Argh! There were lots of sausage chunks, pepperoni slices, and ham. The sausages were quite dry and I had to drink lots of soda to make sure the crust and ingredients washed down before I gagged.  The crust and pie was very dry and thin yet hard to chew and digest. (-1 star) By the time I was on my third slice, I was practically scraping the ingredients off the bread just to finish.

Pluses: You can pile high the lettuce and vegetables to make your own salad, plenty of seating and good for large groups, two televisions to pass time, plenty of menu offerings, and large portions. What impressed me the most was their extra large pizzas and slices called King Kong.

Overall, New York Pizza is okay. With its extensive menu, I'm sure I'll be back in the future to see if I can get a better taste from other items.

I prefer their thin crust but both crusts are solid.  Its decent pizza and it's really cheap.  Probably 3.5 stars for the food, but they get the nod to 4 stars because of the price and their outstanding coupons.

I'm definitely not a pizza person. However, when I tried their pizza I was pleasantly surprised. The texture of the cheese was soft to perfection. The crust was crispy on the bottom and consistent on top. The sauce was zesty with rich Italian herbs. I actually really liked this pizza.

They delivered the pie a little ahead of schedule. It was hot and the cheese was still stringy. That was a big plus for me.

Plain and simple I would definitely order from these guys again.

The slices are pretty hefty though, I will admit.

But c'mon homie! Must you burn every slice you make for me? Can i get a pizza delivered that ain't cajun styled? I will admit one thing though, for some burnt pizza, it's still pretty good compared to some other pizza places. 2 words though that salvaged their rep and earned them 4 stars instead of 2:

KING KONG.

Huge.

I ate here for dinner much to my dismay. Being from New York, I have a high standard for pizza, and this, among all the other pizza joints I've tried in the area, didn't come close.

It was edible, and I was hungry, but I would not come back again. We got the margherita pizza - pretty simple, tomato, cheese, basil. The cheese didn't seem fresh, the crust looked like it was once frozen, and the sauce was way too sweet.

This is my favorite pizza place bar none.  And it's local!

The food is excellent.  Great basic pizza from superb ingredients.  Delivery.  Excellent prices.

The dinning room isn't much to boast, but with pizza this good I don't care.

The man on the phone talked like John Moschitta, Jr (fast talker from micro machine 1980's commercials) but if you've ever ordered pizza before, you'll be able to guess what he's saying based on the amount of syllables and general pronunciation of letters.  When telling him that I had a coupon he stopped me after only saying a few words.  I really enjoyed this phone conversation.  Quick and to the point.

2 topping 14" delivered for $14.09.  I thought I had found my dream pizza place.

I was quoted 55 minutes and my doorbell rang after 44.  I opened the pizza box and was disillusioned.  It looked like plastic.  When I took out slices they were easy to split, the cheese wasn't connected to each slice.  The dough tasted like cardboard.  Worse than Domino's.

*note* for delivery review, not in restaurant.

Not a fan of ultra thick dough, Chicago style pizzas, which seemed to be the higher rated that delivered to PA/ Menlo Park.

Found this via Yelp, and quickly called in an order before closed.

Service was ok on phone. Website was good, used to pick what wanted. Online order would have been the coup de grace!

They advised 45 mins, and I think it was about that. Flash was mellow and didn't Cujo the Pizza delivery guy, so life was good.

Pizza was luke warm, but threw the whole box in oven and was ready shortly. Salad was ok, big size. I also splurged for the TiraMisu, which was so so.

Pizza was a Tuscan Chicken pizza. It was ok, not remarkable. I will keep searching - ideally a true, ultra thin crust, pizza place, that maybe even delivers, will emerge. This is certainly a respectable option.

Yay for my new abode being 1.5 M to Univ Ave in PA, and being in delivery zones :)

I've never been to NY so I've no idea what, how, a proper NY pizza should be like. But one thing I know for sure is I like their pizza!

I live in the East Bay but many times me and my friend will drive all the way there for a pizza after a whole afternoon of gaming. Call them to place the order, cross the bridge, park the car in the underground parking cross street, go pick it up, come home with the smell of fresh pizza permeating the car, chow them down, and back to some more gaming.

To me their crust are pretty thin. Sauce to cheese ratio are good, not soggy or greasy, fair amount of toppings. And the best part is their Pizza agrees with my tummy! =]

This place is cheap and the pizza is great. I like that you can order a slice and they cook it fresh for you -- as opposed to Pizza My Heart where the pizza has been sitting out for who knows how long. The slices are also a lot bigger than Pizza My Heart and it's really more of 2 or 3 slices for the price of 1. I usually get the veggie w/ a can of soda and it's about $5.

They also add a lot of garlic to their pizza, which I love! The pizza is always super hot, fresh, and overflowing with toppings. They also don't over do it with the cheese, which I like.

This is sort of a hole in the wall place, but it's great if you happen to be wandering down Hamilton and want something quick, tasty, and cheap.

ONLY ORDER ONE SLICE!  They're HUGE!

Very affordable and relatively quick so it makes for a great place for a lunch break.  Seating kinda sucks unless you want to get cozy with a stranger.  All in all the taste and quality is slightly above average.  It is what it is.

Paying for refills on soda is the reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 3.

I love NY style pizza and salads made here!

It's a little bit tucked away next to the AT&T office and just across the street from WaMu bank. I use to frequent the dining area and order in when I worked near downtown Palo Alto years ago. They just painted over this amazing NYC mural. I'm guessing because of the Twin Towers & 9-11. The TV in the top corner entertains you while enjoying your meal or killing some time waiting. They have great tasting pizza, fresh salad bar, and low prices for combos w/ drink.

I now just use their delivery service to Menlo Park. You have to remember to ask for plates, crushed chili peppers, and parm. cheese! Medium: 2 toppings, salad, and 2 sodas $14.99+tip (Coupon).

I've heard their slices used to be 2.50ish and was a great deal. Now it's 4.50 for a "slice" which happens to really be two slices together. It's still a pretty good deal since the slice is huge. They've also got specialty slices for 5.00 and my favorite is the garlic chicken.

Great service and great pizza at a reasonable price, only complaint is that prices went up (but with the economy like this I'm not surprised)

This place is the worst! I recently moved to Palo Alto and this is the most affordable pizza place around that delivers. The first time we ordered delivery, we were quoted 30-40 minutes. The driver showed up somewhere around 45-50 minutes later with a cold pizza and no 2-liter! He insisted on driving back to get it even though we said not to. Thus, we had to stay up and wait around for another 45 minutes for a stupid 2-liter!

The SECOND time we ordered delivery (out of desperation) we were quoted 45-50 minutes. Somewhere around 1 hour 15 minutes, we called to see what the hold up was. I was put on and off of hold for 10 minutes all just to hear the "supervisor" say he was on his way. Another 20 minutes went by, no delivery. We called again and had to ASK for a discount so the supervisor offered 20% off but we couldn't use our coupon. The coupon saved us more than his lame discount so we said forget it. Another 10 minutes before the driver showed up with our cold pizza.

This place is a freaking joke. Seems like its run by high school boys. Oh, how could I forget the friendly fellow who answers the phone? He asks you questions, then cuts you off with a new question before you finish answering the first one. He always sounds uninterested and pissed off. I'll never order from these losers again.

Now THIS is pizza. Care not if it's from or "related to" New York, or any of it's affiliates, this is as cheap and BIG as it gets. One slice is all you need, unless you're a real porker, Grandpa. So always do it your way. The service is friendly and prices are very reasonable. This is one of my regulars, and if you go there, I think you'll see why? Please?

Every cheap event I've been to serving pizza gets their pizza from here, including MASS (Meetings of Astrophysics Students at Stanford).  Which means I have pizza about once a week from here.  And just today I have ordered from here for my own cheapo event.

Delivery is decent; not a lot of places will deliver to SLAC, or to EV at Stanford.

The tomato and garlic pizza is really tasty.

I've been here a few times now and it's just ok.....I ordered the #2 combo... (mini pizza, salad and soda for $7.99.. I think it's that price if one topping, hard to tell)... The pizza is good, but suuuuuper greasy. The salad bar leaves nothing to write home about, but they do have ESPN on the flat screen, so that was a bonus. I've been here before when some awesome cheesy movie was playing, but I digress.  The place is also small and seating can get pretty cozy.  There are about 8 small tables inside and 3 tables outside. The slices looked tastier than my pizza. I love pizza, so not going to knock this place too much.  But, it's just okay.

blah blah blah I'm from new york blah blah blah

Very edible pizza. I ordered take-out, paid for it, picked it up, and ate it up -- all while being pretty satisfied.

The pies are small though, I was hungry and able to polish off the medium pizza in one seating without really having to try to hard. Somewhat expensive, but I guess that's pretty much the case with pizza out here in california... Anyway, I certainly enjoy this place the best for downtown Palo Alto pizza cravings.

I got delivery from NY Pizza for a few different reasons.

- I'm sick to death of Pizza my Heart, and I've probably only had pizza from there 6 times in my life.
- Amici's doesn't deliver here.
- I was starving, unwilling to leave the house, and other reviewers commented a lot about how speedy the delivery was.

My pizza alone didn't hit the minimum delivery order, so I ordered a Greek salad as well.  The pizza was fine.  The sauce is a little sweet for my taste, and it was just a tad overcooked.  Okay, though.

The SALAD though.  Oh my!  I love Greek salads to begin with, and I'm a frequent orderer of them.  This one was generous with the kalamatas, which were firm and juicy, not mushy and old.  Good, salty, rich feta.  Lots of it.  Fresh, crisp lettuce.

The delivery was fairly prompt, and the gentleman who brought my food was very nice and polite.  Thanked me profusely for his $3 tip on the $15 bill.

Verdict: I'll be back just for this Greek salad!  The pizza?  Sure, maybe.  It was just barely worth the $9.

Best Pizza Value Around.

That's what I have to say about NY pizza.  Yeah - not really a NY pizza.  And, not really gourmet.

But great value.  For $5-6 you can get a whole personal pizza with generous toppings.  Enough to fill you for lunch.  Most places you can get only a slice for this price, but NY pizza gives you a decent 8" loaded with toppings.

Service is good too.  For a larger pizza order we did delivery, and it was prompt.

We'll be back.

Update:  This has really become our "go-to" place for delivery.  They have a system that 'remembers' where we live when we call, their value is good, and service is consistently reliable.  I have upgraded a star based on this.

I forget how I heard about this place, maybe it was from a search of large pizza pies.

This place offers up a monster sized pizza pie. I forget the size, but it's larger than x-large.

Their all meat is great, lotsa meat from pepperoni, sausage, linguica, etc

The dine-in is adequate but small.

The pizza takes some time to heat up, eventhough I am ordering a slice and not an entire pie.

Thin crust, NY style, but it's a little thicker than NY Style.

I've eaten here a few times, all of them I made the drive for.

I was looking for pizza delivery in Palo Alto, and this place seemed to fit the bill.  They delivered the food in about 40 min, which wasn't too bad considering it was a weekend.

We ordered their Pizza and Wings special, which also came with a house salad.  The salad was, well, a salad; nothing special.  The wings were decent, what you would expect.  The pizza was pretty good; we ordered italian sausage and mushrooms.  It reminded me a lot of Little Caesar's pizza, which is not to say it was bad.  But for a place called New York Pizza, I was expecting pizza that was a little more New York style.

Kinda nice that delivery is free also.  If I really don't feel like going out for pizza, this is a decent alternative near downtown PA.

If you're hungry for pizza and want it fast, NY Pizza is a safe bet. I'd say the best thing about NY Pizza is the delivery speed and the prices (no delivery fee!).

The few times I've had pies there, the cheese has been pretty chewy. I'm not sure if that's due to the pies being overcooked? Nevertheless, they tasted fine and the costs didn't burn a hole in my pocket like those of some other pizza joints.

I'm a huge fan of a slice of spinach, fresh tomato, feta, and olive. The slices are hearty and freshly made on the spot, they are never reheated. Tonight I got a medium pizza with spinach, olives, and pepperoni. It was the best pizza I have ever had. So good in fact, that I had to write this review. If you ever think about getting their Buffalo wings, do so. They are very tasty, but as wings are, they are pretty messy (there are napkins on the tables, so don't worry).

Food aside, the staff is very friendly. The restaurant is always clean and cozy, and there are many periodicals available right outside, If you don't want to watch television.

This is my favorite place to eat in Palo Alto.

This is decent pizza, delivered quickly (and for free).  Not bad prices, and the specials are great deals (e.g. 13 1-topping pizzas for $100).  Also open late on Fri/Sat (2am!).

This is definitely not "gourmet" pizza, or really authentic east coast pizza, but I guess pizza is like sex -- even kind of mediocre pizza is still pretty good.

3.5 stars for the pizza taste +0.5 stars for being made fresh and the considerably large slice.

Now this place is NOT true NY pizza because it's crust is too breaded and you can't fold it in half. However, they made a fresh pepperoni pizza slice for me (from a pre-made triangular piece of dough) and when it came out hot, the pizza had a good crispy crust on the bottom. The sauce was pretty tasty and it was big enough a slice to cut it into 2 thin slices. I think it came out to $3.50.

Bottom line: Not real NY pizza and there is better pizza out there, but overall I was very satisfied by the taste, crispy breaded crust, and the size of the slice. I'd come back. Best is to eat in and taste it fresh out of the oven.

My favorite place to get delicious, thin-slice pizza on a budget.

Two great deals to get plenty of pizza for one and a good amount for two people are:
1. 8" mini cheese pizza ($3.25) or
2. A massive cheese slice ($2.69) which is actually two pieces of pizza stuck together.

Also, they switched from a jank TV showing Spanish language novelas to a spiffy flat screen on which occasionally you can catch a UFC fight.  So entertainment and food for all!

While not exactly New York style pizza, it comes close for being in California and is reasonably tasty. I have been getting pizza from them for years now and think that their pizza use to require more folding like the typical New York Pizza, than it does now... seems like they make it thicker these days. Still their pizza is good and delivery is fast. I ordered delivery from them last night, a  very rainy Saturday night where most people would rather get delivery than to brave the storm themselves, and got my pizza delivered in about 35 minutes.

I would recommend ordering your pizza a size larger here because they seem to run smaller than average, but their sizes go all the way up to 24" for their King Kong size...perfect for a party. They also have soda in two liters for close to the cost of two of their cans. They have lots of toppings to choose from. Their hours say open late, so you never really know for sure, but I think they are usually open until 11pm or 12am depending on the night of the week.

Maybe I need to come up with a rating system for CA pizza joints. A simple 1-5 doesn't cut it, not for restaurants on a whole, either.

Excellent and speedy service from NY Pizza on a Friday night. Walked in and worked my way past all the kids who were headed to who-knows-what-kinds of fun and adventure.

(I've been listening to the The One AM Radio album "An Name Writ in Water." That song "Witness" is great and there is a really sweet video for it at the web site http://www.theoneamrad.... I'm kind of obsessed with dusk and summer nights and that moment you might be falling in love. It's one thing you miss out on when you get older and are married--that moment you meet someone new and start to get to know them, and the mystery of those moments. I imagine some of those kids had some mysteries in store for them, after the pizza, at least.)

New York Pizza is not the kind of place you'd want to sit and eat, unless you needed a place to sit and eat. Big TV, though.

I guess I'm stalling--I hate to give a bad review to a place where the people seem hard working, friendly and decent, but calling this "New York Pizza" is inaccurate. It missed on all three counts: dough, sauce and cheese.

You can't make a New York pizza in a conveyor oven. It has to be a regular pizza oven or something better, like wood- or coal-fired. The kind of oven where I got lines of scars on the inside of my arms that took around 10 years to melt away.

This pizza was very edible and I can see why some people like it. But the crust was SO far from a NY crust that I'd even call it Pillsbury-like.

I guess for some people, if a pizza has thin crust then it's NY Pizza, if it is thick it's Chicago pizza, and some other combo makes it California pizza.

As far as ranking this as a delivery pizza, I think it wouldn't be bad. It seemed better than the chains.

So, I won't be going back, but if you don't care a whit for the NYC in your pizza, I encourage you to try it.

the pizza isn't very NY in style, in my opinion, whether you order a slice to reheat or a pie to share.  they are fairly large slices, but the crust just doesn't have that "chew."

however, i am a sucker for lasagna slathered with a rich salty tomato sauce, and theirs is a large, hot enjoyable portion.

about two years ago, we ordered a pie with a few toppings including anchovies.  there was absolutely no anchovies on there.  the guy behind the counter said that they were just hidden beneath the cheese.  we didn't know why they couldn't just own up to the fact that there were no anchovies on the pizza.  hopefully the service is different now.

Not sure if this is under new ownership or not, but there's some new faces working the front.  I went there 2x last week to inhale some pizza, and since it's around the corner from my office, and cheap, it was an easy decision.  Ordered a Jalapeno, red onion, and mushroom pizza and took it back to work w/ a side of ranch.  Service was good, pizza was better than average, I'll be back, when I don't feel like walkin to paxti's.  Oh, and the pizza here is not greasy at all.

Good pizza, very reasonable prices, they'll turn the game on for you, and they have free delivery. I usually pick this place over Pizza My Heart.

Very edible pizza, but it ain't new york style; the crust is crisp, and relatively thin, but way too bready.  The stars are more for the people than the pizza, but it'll do for delivery, and it's good in a pinch for a quick bite.

Awesomely reliable delivery times!!  This is the only place that I've tried that actually delivers when they say they will, or even sooner!  Plus, the pizza is pretty good too.  I like that there is a satisfying mouthful of bread to the pizza and that it is not too greasy.  Just had the hawaiian today, yum.
