So far I have enjoyed the pizza, and the delivery is quick, and free. It is nothing like NY pizza, but I have never had a NY style pizza anywhere else than on Long island.
I can instantly tell when a pizza shop is an authentic NY style pizza. When I call and ask to order a pepperoni pie and they ask what size, they are not NY style pizza. There are no sizes. It's a pizza pie, end of story.
I should have known what to expect given that every other customer and the guy behind the counter was under the age of 18.
Oh, and I apologize to the city of New York.
If you're a pimply indolent teenager looking for a place to hang out and spend your allowance after school, hell, why not here? I'm sure I would have liked it then too. If you're looking for a good slice of pizza, or even a so-bad-it's-good type of pizza, go elsewhere. This pizza is just blah: the sauce is overly sweet and canned tasting, the cheese is bland, the crust isn't crusty. You order a salad, you get a limp pile of greens and dressing in a plastic pouch. It's one notch up from Little Caesar's in that it actually smells like pizza, but that's about all I can say.
You know what... this is just a great 'What you see is what you get' type of pizza.
Nothing fancy. No super special combos. No huge restaurant style pizza. It's not Linguni's, it's not La Val's, it's just a good ol' fashioned thin sliced New York style pizza.
I mean there are so many pizza spots to choose from in Alameda... but this place is just a great tasting, low priced pizza joint that i always find myself coming back to. Forget it... you get 5 stars.

Don't get confused, this pizza really is good.
Just because it's called 'New York' Pizza, i think… Read more »
Just a note to New Yorkers who love to comment about how great their pizza taste. Apparently, a study was conducted, and your pizza is so great because of the New York water it's cooked with....so California pizza will never taste like your pizza...get over it, or get it shipped.
btw, this place is ok, just a little pricey for a slice, $3.75. Alameda Pizza on the Westside is a great alternative at $2.50 a slice.
I've had the cheese pizza a few times and have enjoyed it each time. They deliver pretty fast and they're reasonably priced. Good stuff.

Really it's about 3 1/2 stars. Better than average pizza.
I remember when this place used to be further down on park... when it used to be good. The pizza USED TO be cheesy, perfect crust, and a slice was probably about a quarter of a medium pizza.
Now?
it's like the pizza you used to get at the school cafeteria in 3rd grade.
it tastes like cardboard.
Only they charge you more for it. Even when it's fresh, it's still lukewarm. It breaks my heart.
This is my favorite pizza in Alameda. The pizza is thin sliced but the real gem of this place is there sweet sauce. I do not recommend their chicken wings which are frozen but their pizza is always a favorite.
Damn. I'm a straight up pizza junkie and this place does not disappoint. $4.50 for a fat slice of pizza and a soda is a steal. It's delicious thin crust and monstrous toppings is what I'm about. I also like the fact that its a family run business and the people there are really nice. I would recommend you trying this place at least once.
Alameda isn't exactly pizza town, but New York Pizza is yummy with a tasty crust. Order by the generous slice ($3.10 with one topping) or an entire thin-crust pie.
We generally order to-go, since we live just a few blocks away. Also, however, it's always uncomfortably warm inside, and usually virtually empty. Which is too bad, since they have Anchor Steam, Fat Tire, and Trumer Pils on tap and Dreyers ice cream!
I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately it let me down. I ordered a sausage and mushroom pie and it was very soggy with liquid running off the top. The kids running the place are nice enough, but it does seem to be a hang-out for their buddies on the weekends and the staff have to keep getting up from their friends and going back around behind the counter when a customer comes in. I will probably not go back.
Four stars for New York Pizza in Alameda. Great pizza ,and I do mean great. The veggie combo was so packed with goodies that one piece filled me up. But of course, I still managed to wolf down a second.
So why only four stars you ask? Well, I brought my soccer team after a game last Friday night and they had no beer on draft! What's up with that?! Its STOOPID. We were the only people in the place at 9:30 on a Friday night. Get a clue! The owner, I guess, said they didn't buy a large CO2 tank because they don't get a lot of in-store customers. Well, duh. Now we know why.
So we bought one round of bottle beers and the place lost out on what could have been a sizable bill. Their loss.
The ambiance is nothing to speak of - one large room with a full wall mural of the NYC skyline. This is definitely more of a "to go" place. But the pies where a delight! Thin, but not too thin, crust and just loaded with toppings. Definitely worth a try.
there are very few pizza joints in the East Bay which I would dedicate my hard earned dollars to. I don't understand the hype of Zachari's, i find their tomatoe sauce to be too sour/bitter, which overpowers the taste of the pie.
I was a fan of lanesplitter for a moment, but there have been too many times of late where their crust seems too dry and I get all cotton mouthed.
enter, New York Pizza, my savior! they just seem to get it right,...on the same vibe as Speederia in San Carlos. thin crust on the main portion, a bit more crust along the edges...excellent tomotoe sauce, just the right amount of cheese, which is not too greasy and often carmelizes along the edges.
New York Pizza sells by the slice and is a true bargin. $2.50 for a cheese slice, add 60 cents per topping. what you get is a slice which the place adds the topping and places it back in the oven for a few mintues, so give yourself 5 mintues. the slices are so large they get cut in half, kinda like a $5 Cybelles slice.
If you like the Slices at places like Victors on Polk in SF, you will enjoy New York Pizza....I find it hard to describe what makes this a great slice, it is just something which once you have a slice here, you will remember it.
NYP is a great place to go for a slice. They are quick and tasty. I'm a big fan of the veggie slice...Sometimes I'll even order two slices because I love it that much. Even better, if you don't want to wait the 10 minutes for a slice, you can phone the order in ahead of time, so by the time you get to NYP, you slice will be waiting there, fresh and hot. Yum!
I ordered New York Pizza the day I moved to Alameda ... probably because they had the largest ad in the yellow pages.
New York, not quite. The crust was okay, the cheese was fine, the toppings were good, but the sauce ... oh, the sauce. Not good. The sauce was sweeeet. Almost sugary. It was like ... tomato paste. Out of a can. And it had no spices to speak of. Good pizza sauce needs lots of oregano. I piled it on at home, but it should have already been there.
I'll be trying Alameda's other pizza options before I give New York Pizza another chance.
I grew up in NY.
This place does not disappoint. A bit pricey for a single slice, but worth every penny if you buy a pie.
So my new jersey boyfriend just moved out to California with me and we've been in pizza hell ever since. We went from having fantastic pizza on every block to the delivery dead zone know as Oakland. New York Pizza is the closest thing we've had to the real thing after 15+ tries. I's not actual NYC pizza but it's close enough that we don't have to cry ourselves to sleep at night starving. The cheese mix is actually exactly right.
The pizza is just what you expect it to be. Normally I visit just to grab a slice and maybe a beer. I have had Bowzers but they can over do the cornmeal a little.. When I just want a simple good slice I pick New York Pizza.
Now they don't have much when it comes to things not pizza. Just salad and wings. There are other places on the block to grab something other than pizza.
lived in alameda for 3 years and just tried NY Pizza for the first time last week and was pleasantly surprised. It had a good crispy thin crust with a good cheese mix and spicy pepperoni. $4.50 for a slice and a small soda ( a little pricey in my opinion) but I'll definitely go back. nice family run joint and I'd much rather support a small local business.
went here last night. i didn't think i would eat here cuz one time i had asked for change for the meter and they said they didn't have any. i knew that was a lie but whatever. ordered a veggie slice. the sauce was good and the crust wasn't too thin. they are pretty good with the toppings but i've had better pizza. Still though, it was much better than i was expecting. The girl working there was pretty nice. the place is kinda small... long and narrow area for seating. they have a flat screen but you can only see it from certain seating.
This place was a godsend for a displaced easterner like me who was despairing for my first few months here of ever finding pizza out west that matched up to what I'd been spoiled on back home. Then one day, lo and behold, I stumbled upon this little spot in Alameda. The simple, sturdy name says it all--they make delicious, greasy pies with thin, crispy crust that are not fancy but which are somehow inexplicably just right. When it moved across the street and down a couple blocks, I thought it'd out of business and was good & worried for a while, though I think by then I'd also discovered Zachary's and so wasn't quite as heartbroken as I might've been. I rediscovered it while playing a show at John Patrick's one night a couple years later, and all was again right with the world.
I think that the Pizza sucks. No taste and the topping options are lame. I grew up in NY and lived in SF for 10 years. So, I can judge. Do not get pizza at New York Pizza. You will be dissappointed.
Maybe the worst pizza in Alameda. I was so disappointed. Several years ago this restaurant was on the opposite side of Park Street. Back then, their pizza was good. Today the pizza is soft and wet. It reminds me of undercooked grocery store take-home-and-cook-yourself pizza. In Alameda there are many more pizza choices so skip New York Pizza for sure.
we didn't like it the first time, a couple of years ago. but i always try stuff again (after all, there aren't a ton of options in alameda, and one can only go to round table so many times). and now we like it. it's different. i think the crust is good, it's not overly cheesy and they have a fair amount of parmesan or something in the mix, so it's kind of tangy, a little on the greasy side like pizza should be, the toppings are good...we get their pizza a lot. the actual restaurant is unpleasant (bright, lack of decor) which is too bad because they do serve beer. parking is a pain since it's downtown but there's usually something around the block.
