San Francisco, CA
My favorite pizza in Alameda. Perfect thin crisp crust (and im not a fan of the thin crust but these guys do it right), right amount of everything, perfect for me. Easy amount of sauce, not overweming with cheap toppings. I always go original and simple with this place: X large Pepperoni, Sausage, black olives, extra cheese with the white garlic hmmm mmm.....
I would recomend getting it delivered fresh and hot rather
then the ones on the counter seem to sit there, I know plenty of pizza joints throw em back in the oven for min then serve it but Im not too much a fan of that.
Delicious pizza for a nice treat yourself! -

Ehhh...Went in for a slice yesterday for lunch. It was a huge slice...but, I'm pretty sure it had been sitting around for a while and just re-heated with some cheese and fresh pepperonis. Now, I know that this is not an uncommon practice, and I've actually done the same thing with leftovers, but, I don't know, when I pay for a fresh slice...it's kinda what I want.
Oh and don't advertise it as Diet Coke when it clearly is a cheap knock off. -

Alameda, CA
Loved their thin, but not too thin, HUGE slices of pizza since I was a little kid. The recipe has stayed the same forever, and the only thing that has changed is the location and some of their menu. Go there after having some drinks on Park St., get a slice or two and relax with some friends. Or go for lunch/dinner and order some Kabob and rice off their new menu (an excellent addition!)
The place is a strait forward old school style pizza parlor with a twist. It's got the biggest pizza you'll find in Alameda, good beer selection, salads, calzones, and now kabobs! Don't expect a fancy restaurant, just expect good food, quick service, and large portions. =) -

I'd give this place 4 or even 5 stores if the ambiance was a little better (aesthetics and dining environment matter to me--don't get me wrong, it's not a hell-hole, but don't go expecting to want to linger and chat after you've eaten), but for delivering on a good, solid slice of NY style pizza, they do a good job.
Good, thin crispy yet chewy crust, right amount of sauce with good flavor, toppings cooked just right (some crispiness and shallow pools of grease from the pepperoni which is how I like it!), and the right amount of cheese.
Solid portion size too -- comes from a large pie slice.
Reasonable prices starting at $3 per slice.
I am not a NY native, but NYC is one of my fave places to visit, and I ALWAYS look forward to noshing on pizza by the slice when I'm there.
If you have a pizza craving and need to get your fix and prefer NY style, you should be happy with a visit here. Otherwise, I don't know what to tell you -- keep looking! -

I was craving pizza and found NY Pizza on Yelp. Stopped in for a slice of pepperoni and sausage. I like me some thin crust pizza, and I have to say this was not bad.
I of course always want more toppings, but the sauce on the pie was very tasty and the cheese was perfectly melted. All n all not a bad choice if you have a pizza craving. -

We ordered a large pepperoni/mushroom pizza, wings and soda for delivery. The pizza was huge and yummy. The wings were great as well. Got the 10% yelp discount and the total was around $28. It was the perfect amount of food for 4 adults and 1 child.

The owner is a jerk and is a micro-manager. The yelp ads are always wrong but he never owns up to it. They don't deliver to Oakland even though the website allows you to place an order.
Other then that I am a NYC native and think this is the best pizza in the bay hands down. -
Review from Brian Y.
Castro Valley, CA
I love the pizza crust here, it is crispy on the outside with just enough chewy bite on the inside.
At first I was concerned about the $4.05 price tag for a slice of pepperoni pizza, but when I got it I understood. The thing is huge, like 23 inches or so. I'm no New York native so I can't say for sure if it's authentic or not, but the pizza was delicious.
My only gripe with this place is when I got my order to go, I got it on a thin paper plate with a paper bag. The hot oil immediately soaked through both and burned my hands pretty good. If the owner ever reads this, I know you are trying to save a few pennies, but please know that this is pretty dangerous. Not to mention that it friggen' hurts. -
Review from Isabella M.
This pizza was awesome - easy to order (online) and so big! It seemed pricey but when it arrived it was a really good deal.
The crust doesn't have any grease on the bottom and it's thin and browned. The toppings are yummy and they have a special with 17 toppings. 17! Also, it's not too salty, but so tasty. -

New York Pizza is good, I prefer the thin cheese, but any selection will be a good one.

I heart New York Pizza in Alameda!
I ordered 5 large pizzas (cheese, pepp, hawaiian, combo - yes, for a kids' party). I called a few days in advance to see if they can accomodate this. Spoke to the owner, Addibh (sp?), and he was great to work with! I asked for double slice on most pizzas since kids don't need a huge slice... he accomodated and was really nice about it.
The combo was my favorite and had a good balance of veggies (onions, green bell, olives) to meat (pepp, sausage). It had a thin crust but not so thin that it falls apart. Terrific tomoto sauce -- not too thick and tastes fresh. I really dislike huge toppings of cheese and NY Pizza didn't fail. They had a perfect cheese to compliment every bite.
The pizzas were piping hot when they delivered! They delivered on time and with a smile.
I have NY Pizza on speed dial and will be calling them again when I'm in the area! -

* 2.5 stars *
Hm.
Stopped in this place a few times in the past to check it out or get a togo menu or see if they had pasta or whatever (which they don't), and finally decided to try 'em out today... despite always feeling the place was kind of blah, the service seemed on the cold side, and the prices a bit high...
Conclusion: Pizza here is "meh" & on the pricey side. There's much better and cheaper at either Bowser's or Alameda Pizza (the latter being the superior one).
(I'm not even going to attempt to get into the whole argument of whether this place is authentic NY pizza or not, because I'm not even going to pretend to be any sort of expert on that. I just judge pizza on how damn good it is).
But.
There are a couple little semi-redeeming factors to help out. One, it's pretty cool that (according to the very dispassionate owner) they've been open for 27 years. I'm 27 years old! Damn! Two, I'm retarded and didn't see the "Vegetarian Slice" option which has six veggies on it for $4.50. My total was $4.05 for a one topping. I felt pretty stupid after ordering and subsequently realizing this.
SO yeah.
Overall, not good enough to be three stars or to even round up to three. I may come back here to try the veggie slice, someday, but probably not for a long while...

I remember when this place used to be further down on park... when it used to be good. The pizza USED TO be cheesy, perfect crust, and a slice was probably about a quarter of a medium pizza.
Now?
it's like the pizza you used to get at the school cafeteria in 3rd grade.
it tastes like cardboard.
Only they charge you more for it. Even when it's fresh, it's still lukewarm. It breaks my heart. -
Review from Greg G.
You know what... this is just a great 'What you see is what you get' type of pizza.
Nothing fancy. No super special combos. No huge restaurant style pizza. It's not Linguni's, it's not La Val's, it's just a good ol' fashioned thin sliced New York style pizza.
I mean there are so many pizza spots to choose from in Alameda... but this place is just a great tasting, low priced pizza joint that i always find myself coming back to.Listed in: The Ultimate Alameda List, Sweet Baby Pizza

Got a small pepperoni pizza... the crust was tasty, tomato sauce was sweet, cheese was stringy, and the pepperoni was crispy just how I like it!
After reading the reviews, I braced myself for the worst, but it was actually quite good. I ordered over the phone and picked up 15 minutes later. No fuss. -

Just a note to New Yorkers who love to comment about how great their pizza taste. Apparently, a study was conducted, and your pizza is so great because of the New York water it's cooked with....so California pizza will never taste like your pizza...get over it, or get it shipped.
btw, this place is ok, just a little pricey for a slice, $3.75. Alameda Pizza on the Westside is a great alternative at $2.50 a slice. -

Alameda isn't exactly pizza town, but New York Pizza is yummy with a tasty crust. Order by the generous slice ($3.10 with one topping) or an entire thin-crust pie.
We generally order to-go, since we live just a few blocks away. Also, however, it's always uncomfortably warm inside, and usually virtually empty. Which is too bad, since they have Anchor Steam, Fat Tire, and Trumer Pils on tap and Dreyers ice cream! -

I should have known what to expect given that every other customer and the guy behind the counter was under the age of 18.
Oh, and I apologize to the city of New York.
If you're a pimply indolent teenager looking for a place to hang out and spend your allowance after school, hell, why not here? I'm sure I would have liked it then too. If you're looking for a good slice of pizza, or even a so-bad-it's-good type of pizza, go elsewhere. This pizza is just blah: the sauce is overly sweet and canned tasting, the cheese is bland, the crust isn't crusty. You order a salad, you get a limp pile of greens and dressing in a plastic pouch. It's one notch up from Little Caesar's in that it actually smells like pizza, but that's about all I can say. -

there are very few pizza joints in the East Bay which I would dedicate my hard earned dollars to. I don't understand the hype of Zachari's, i find their tomatoe sauce to be too sour/bitter, which overpowers the taste of the pie.
I was a fan of lanesplitter for a moment, but there have been too many times of late where their crust seems too dry and I get all cotton mouthed.
enter, New York Pizza, my savior! they just seem to get it right,...on the same vibe as Speederia in San Carlos. thin crust on the main portion, a bit more crust along the edges...excellent tomotoe sauce, just the right amount of cheese, which is not too greasy and often carmelizes along the edges.
New York Pizza sells by the slice and is a true bargin. $2.50 for a cheese slice, add 60 cents per topping. what you get is a slice which the place adds the topping and places it back in the oven for a few mintues, so give yourself 5 mintues. the slices are so large they get cut in half, kinda like a $5 Cybelles slice.
If you like the Slices at places like Victors on Polk in SF, you will enjoy New York Pizza....I find it hard to describe what makes this a great slice, it is just something which once you have a slice here, you will remember it. -

Alameda, CA
Four stars for New York Pizza in Alameda. Great pizza ,and I do mean great. The veggie combo was so packed with goodies that one piece filled me up. But of course, I still managed to wolf down a second.
So why only four stars you ask? Well, I brought my soccer team after a game last Friday night and they had no beer on draft! What's up with that?! Its STOOPID. We were the only people in the place at 9:30 on a Friday night. Get a clue! The owner, I guess, said they didn't buy a large CO2 tank because they don't get a lot of in-store customers. Well, duh. Now we know why.
So we bought one round of bottle beers and the place lost out on what could have been a sizable bill. Their loss.
The ambiance is nothing to speak of - one large room with a full wall mural of the NYC skyline. This is definitely more of a "to go" place. But the pies where a delight! Thin, but not too thin, crust and just loaded with toppings. Definitely worth a try. -

I ordered New York Pizza the day I moved to Alameda ... probably because they had the largest ad in the yellow pages.
New York, not quite. The crust was okay, the cheese was fine, the toppings were good, but the sauce ... oh, the sauce. Not good. The sauce was sweeeet. Almost sugary. It was like ... tomato paste. Out of a can. And it had no spices to speak of. Good pizza sauce needs lots of oregano. I piled it on at home, but it should have already been there.
I'll be trying Alameda's other pizza options before I give New York Pizza another chance. -

NEVER AGAIN!!!
I ordered only from these guys for over 3 years, whenever I was on my boat. Well after delivering a very cold very old very late pizza, I called right away, and they said they would send another.
Remember I have gotten bad pizzas before but never complained, and I was a loyal customer for over 3 years, and turned on over 11 other boat owners to this place.
Well an hour plus went buy and I ate one slice. After like 75 minutes the new pizza arrived (luke warm) and they requested the old pizza back, which i gave them.
Then the owner called back yelling at me, as I wasted the nearly 2 hour old pizza and he couldnt resell (?) (isnt there laws against this?) and yelled at me for five minutes, at which point I hung up.
This incident happened last summer but as a recent yelper I decided to warn others to stay away from this horrible service place (albeit the pizza isnt bad).
Theres lots of other choices on alameda, and dont want to plug anyone in particular, but we have been very very happy ordering from the pizza place on webster street. -
Review from Phung D.
Rosemead, CA
This place doesn't deserve 3 stars, more like 2.5 but it was not THAT bad to get 2 stars either.
Maybe we missed their sign "pizza by the slice" or didn't pay attention so we ordered a small for 2. It was more than enough. With one topping is $9 something, and it costs additional for more toppings. We got pineapple & ham with cheese, thin crust and it was just decent. We expected the crust to be crunchy but it wasn't. The pineapple wasn't that sweet either. The caesar salads was definitely a waste of money! $3 something for few pieces of lettuce. The salads didn't even taste clean nor fresh, as if they didn't wash the lettuce.
It seems like they do mostly delivery here since we were the only one that dined in. Parking is on the street only. Service was pretty ordinary, can't really say they were friendly. The pizza came out after 15 mins of waiting, which is the usual time for pizza I guess. This is just something for you to try at least once, not twice. -

it's obvious these guys do most of their business in delivery because their phone doesn't seem to stop ringing. But in between calls, they are putting together some pretty decent pizza. I've ordered a couple of pies from them and each has been very satisfying. The crust is thin and chewy and the sauce is flavorful. All in all, a solid pizza joint.

This place does not disappoint. A bit pricey for a single slice, but worth every penny if you buy a pie. -

Alameda, CA
First time ordering from this place, a to go 2+2+2 special. Had a coupon from the Alameda phone book. The special is 2 medium pizzas with 2 toppings each and a 2 liter of soda. Ordered 1 pizza with bell peppers and ground beef. The other pizza was sausage and olives.
Placing the order was a little difficult due to having a bit of a tough time understanding the employee. I had to ask several times for him to repeat himself. We got through it and my to go order was ready in 15 minutes as he said.
It was Saturday around 2pm when I went to pick up my order, had to drive around the block a few times before finally finding a parking spot about a block away and across the street.
Was disappointed on the amount of toppings. My olive-sausage pizza had way more olives than sausage bits and my bell pepper-ground beef had lots of open cheese spaces than the nearly handful of the 2 toppings.
Flavor wise it tasted great. Nice thin crispy crust, sweet tasting sauce, and nice amount of cheese for cheesiness. Just disappointed on the amount (lack off) toppings. -

I'm from Chicago, so all this east coast pizza -fugedaboutit.
Anyway, WE call this east coast pizza style: thin crust and you can fold it to get it in your mouth. So for me, its ok.
No body on the island does real Chicago style. NOBODY. -

Stop it California.
There is nothing here that tastes like pizza in New York.
I can handle that I'll have to wait for a flight home to eat real pizza but don't break my balls by calling your somewhat okay dough, sauce and cheese concoction New York pizza. It just disappoints that much more.
For those who are 'from New York' and love this joint... Albany doesn't count. -

I would give it 2 stars if they didn't pretend to be a New York pizzeria and instead just called the restaurant "Pizza". It's about as authentic NY as Little Caesars. But I have to give it 1 star because for people looking for NY pizza, you will be very disappointed. However, for people looking for melted cheese and tomato sauce on some baked bread cut in the shape of a triangle, then you will probably be happy.

This place was a godsend for a displaced easterner like me who was despairing for my first few months here of ever finding pizza out west that matched up to what I'd been spoiled on back home. Then one day, lo and behold, I stumbled upon this little spot in Alameda. The simple, sturdy name says it all--they make delicious, greasy pies with thin, crispy crust that are not fancy but which are somehow inexplicably just right. When it moved across the street and down a couple blocks, I thought it'd out of business and was good & worried for a while, though I think by then I'd also discovered Zachary's and so wasn't quite as heartbroken as I might've been. I rediscovered it while playing a show at John Patrick's one night a couple years later, and all was again right with the world.

Damn. I'm a straight up pizza junkie and this place does not disappoint. $4.50 for a fat slice of pizza and a soda is a steal. It's delicious thin crust and monstrous toppings is what I'm about. I also like the fact that its a family run business and the people there are really nice. I would recommend you trying this place at least once.

Alameda, CA
Not the same pizza it used to be. Not NY thin crust either so don't start Jonesing for it, you won't get it here [anymore].
When first moving to town, friends brought over pizza from here saying it was the best in town. We liked it. A good thin crust and on the crispy side. Yeah a winner, we thought, for those near weekly pizza cravings.
Well, it's been downhill ever since. And now we're done with them and will start looking for another place when we need a fix. Their pizza crust is thick like a Round Table regular kind, very doughy, not sure the change as the first pizza was definitely a thin crust and could be folded in half.
But the real kicker that makes you question this place, their drivers DO NOT carry red pepper or parm cheese packets with them....YOU MUST ASK for them when you place the phone order. Hello? How hard would it really be for a driver to have some packets in his car of some stinking red pepper. Is this place that cheap? Hey, we get it that times are tough, but are they really so tough that a pizza place can't spare a little packet of red peppers UNLESS you remember to ask when you place the order? They don't mention this when you order either.
Stick a fork in us, we're done. -

So my new jersey boyfriend just moved out to California with me and we've been in pizza hell ever since. We went from having fantastic pizza on every block to the delivery dead zone know as Oakland. New York Pizza is the closest thing we've had to the real thing after 15+ tries. I's not actual NYC pizza but it's close enough that we don't have to cry ourselves to sleep at night starving. The cheese mix is actually exactly right.

lived in alameda for 3 years and just tried NY Pizza for the first time last week and was pleasantly surprised. It had a good crispy thin crust with a good cheese mix and spicy pepperoni. $4.50 for a slice and a small soda ( a little pricey in my opinion) but I'll definitely go back. nice family run joint and I'd much rather support a small local business.

This is my favorite pizza in Alameda. The pizza is thin sliced but the real gem of this place is there sweet sauce. I do not recommend their chicken wings which are frozen but their pizza is always a favorite.
