Loved our stay here! It was our first time in the city and we couldn't have picked a better spot. Staff were friendly and helpful. We arrived early and our room wasn't ready. They happily stowed our luggage and offered to call as soon as our room was ready (which turned out to be only about 20min). We were smack in the middle of everything. Walking distance to the theaters, shopping and more.* We stayed free with rewards points, and we were 'rewarded' with a lovely room on the 42nd floor overlooking times square. For being such a huge hotel, the room (very clean, updated) was very homey and we enjoyed retiring there each night to our extremely comfortable bed. There was a little noise above us from the lounge, but after a full day of sightseeing and a few glasses of wine, nothing could bother us! I would definitely return.
*With the right shoes. -

I recently stayed at the Marriot for a business trip and I was instantly dismayed that it was located in the heart of Times Square. Having lived in NYC for a while and it being a regular destination for my business travels I can tell you that I could have lived without being in the middle of the madness.
My first experience at the hotel was confusion - not knowing how to get to the lobby to check in. Since there was no staff around to direct me, I finally found my way up to the 8th floor and then waited in line a while to actually check in. Aside from being a bit lost, the check in process went smoothly. The front desk attendant was pleasant and the process to check in, after waiting in line, only took a few minutes.
The walk to my room was less than pleasant. Each floor is in the shape of a square with the rooms lining the exterior of the square. The elevators are located on one side and my room happened to be directly across from the elevators on the opposite side of the floor which meant I had to walk a length and a half of the building to get to my room. During that walk, I encountered a large number of guests sitting on the floor outside of their rooms talking on cell phones. I had to attempt to squeeze by most of these guests and with multiple pieces of luggage this was no easy feat. I know the hotel cannot really control this but I found it extremely annoying.
The rooms, for NYC, are quite spacious (those who have stayed in NYC know space is a commodity and so a nice size room in NYC is a rare find). I had a desk, a chair, a king sized bed, dresser with TV and a night stand. The bathroom was a bit small but functional. The view of Times Square was nice but I could still see some of the bright lights even with the light blocking blinds closed. Interestingly, there was no noise to mention so the rooms must be fairly well insulated.
My only complaint about the room was the lack of power outlets. In order to plug in my phone near the bed I had to pull the nightstand away from the wall and reach half way down to plug in. On the desk, similar situation. The plug was mid-way down behind the side of the desk. This is a no-go for me.
All in all, I found this hotel to be a bit too large for my taste and a bit overwhelming in terms of navigation. I have another business trip coming up that requires a stay in this area and I have already booked a different hotel.
While I personally am choosing not to stay here again, it's only because of my personal preferences. I think it is a great value and location for tourists - you get a lot of space for your very reasonably priced room. -

We didn't stay here. We always go to the eighth floor lounge and look over Times Square. The view from the window is wonderful. Very relaxing.
Unfortunately, as usual, the glass for my martini was warm...they never chill them. The food is so-so....they got rid of the wonderful sushi they used to serve. The service is slow.
If you want to the view, go and enjoy. Otherwise, don't expect much in the way of quality. -

My choice of hotels in New York. Location is great, right next to Time Square. Great place to meet people.

A huge mess of a convention center/theater space. It takes forever to get up and down the elevators to your room, so don't forget anything! I'd prefer to stay at the Renaissance in Midtown just up the way at ~57th and Lex. Oh and the rooftop bar was closed by ~11:30 on a Thursday night...changing my stars from 2 to 1.

Like most TImes sq hotels this place has tight-ish security (read as over protected...don't other your keys or you may sleep in shelter)
I guess if you are from out of town, country, or plant and really really need to overlook the brazing neon lights all night, this location is for you.
It's typical Marriott and in my opinion it's totally outdated. Nothing stands out. I'd rather stay different place, unless someone else pays for it (lucky me, I had to work so late I got to stay here one night) -

This was my first time spending the night on NY. After this time I will not come back to this hotel again. We made reservations for having rooms with double beds and they messed up the request and instead gave us a Single bedroom which does not have a couch bed and can barely fit a roll away. Keep in mind we reserve our room a week before our stay knowing that around this time is the busiest time of the year. After spending an hour down at the front desk they ended up giving us a bigger one with a single bed that has a couch bed and brought us a roll away. The room smelled as if someone had left something dirty in the room and didn't clean it up. I ended up waking up in the morning with pink eye. I will not be coming back to this place again.

Review from Mitch G.
This place continues through the ages to morph to remain relevant and "the" place to meet up. Ever evolving and timely, the Marriott Marquis has managed to be relevant and ready for the next trend in the city. I found that the hotel price is very expensive but the old adage of " location, location, location" rings true. This place is near everything that we wanted to be near. So, on that note it is forgivable. What I do not find forgivable is the $15/day fee for internet usage in my room. It would be better if they hid that cost in the price of the room rather than deny me the use of the internet in my room. This is particularly silly with a Starbucks in the lobby where you can go and use the internet...if you find a seat. This should be changed because it really does not make me feel like a valued customer. Am I really not paying enough.
The rooms are comfy all the way around and they are clean. My room was a good size and I know that many of the hotels in NYC are tiny.
The check in at the front desk was just ok. I was not impressed with what I perceived to be service with an attitude that seemed apathetic and robotic. No smiles overall and not smooth.
Again. The mantra when you are here is "location, location, location". This really is the heart of it all and you will not feel like there is anything you can't do in the city while you are here. It's up to you. -

We called this hotel home for about a week.
Perfect location: You can pretty much step right out of your hotel into the middle of the madness that is Times Square. Within walking distance to shows, food, shops and subway stations. For food close by, I definitely recommend checking out Havana Central (Cuban food) and Patzeria Pizza.
The staff: Cleaning crew were great... they even lined up our shoes after drunken messy nights. Front desk people were nice too.
Rooms: Apparently the rooms are huge compared to other New York Hotels. Nice and clean everywhere in the hotel.
Very nice workout room with a ton of different machines.... that I barely used.
Just a heads up tho, the elevator system is kinda weird. You push the level your room is on, then they give you a letter that tells you what elevator you take. Can't just hop into any elevator.
The only complaint I have is that the cleaners threw away our leftover pizza. Well, that's not really a complaint, but it made me sad..
I loved this hotel and wished I could have stayed longer. I will be back, hopefully soon. -
Review from Jason R.
It's a hotel.
I was hoping for a little bit more... The Marquis in Atlanta has a bar that draws in people other than the bored, tired business traveler. As a bored, tired business traveler, I was hoping for a bit of Times Square people watching. Not to happen. The configuration does not encourage mingling. While I understand it to some extent, I was hoping to relax with a few smiles and some chat before bundling off to sleep.
The room was great (and huge for NYC), but typical. Cookie cutter. The iron was a real iron, believe it or not. That's a nice bonus. And the staff were great overall. I was here on last-minute state rate, so I think I was bumped up to an available better room. The "lounge" on the 30th floor wasn't available to a peon like me, but the paperwork in the room never mentioned that. Minor point, as I intended on blintzes for breakfast. The workout area seemed serious, but I wasn't.
Now that I've stayed at Times Square once, I feel no need ever to do so again. Nothing bad about the hotel, just not my thing. -

We had one of our guest stay in this beautiful hotel in the middle of New York. From the moment you drive up to the entrance, checking in we experienced an excellent service.
Our guest had a 'red eye' from San Diego, and arrived 5am at JFK. Check in time is ussualy 3pm, and on request you might be able to check in at 12pm. We made a call to the hotel, and to our surprise the told us "just to bring him." Check in was 6am with no additional charge... now that's service.
Our guest had a tremendous time in NY and at the Marriott Marquis. This is an excellent hotel to stay, or to put your guest in.
The view from room 3737 is amazing! -

Now that I have a kid, this is pretty much the only place I stay in NYC. The rooms are HUGE (for NYC or anywhere else) - I can fit the pack and play in the bathroom.
This hotel's been around for a while, and they've rennovated the rooms, nicely. They're currently in the middle of redoing the lobby (on the 8th floor), but that doesn't take away from the feel too much. The staff is suprisingly fantastic. The maid we had remembered us (most notably our baby) from our last stay 3 months ago and was SUPER nice. The front desk staff is super nice and accomidating, even if the hotel is the size of a Vegas monster hotel!
The location can't be beat. Now, I HATE Times Square. But all the midtown offices are close by for work, you're close to Midtown tunnel to get out of town, you're reasonably close to the park...it just makes sense.
The only issue I have is paying $400/night for a hotel. Ah, but it's NYC, good luck finding something cheaper that doesn't have rats. -
Review from Lois M.
Disclaimer: Hubby and I are big Marriott fans. We have the credit card to get the points and stayed here with all the points we've accumulated. And, we get VIP perks because we are hoity-toity Gold Club members. Enough of the gloating...
This is in the heart of NY theater district. It's a huge property, but we had no problem checking in early, getting access to concierge level rooms, and having them take care of reservations to restaurants and theaters. Of course, worse than a cruise ship, the open palm quickly wipes out one's supply of 1's and 5's. Hubby hates tipping, but after a while, he realized that you do get better service and tips by greasing the works with the green backs - especially when having the doorman get you a taxi. After a few times, we were regulars, and when coming out, the doorman nodded and immediately got us transportation and always arranged for shopping bags to be taken up to our rooms.
The rooms are very standard Marriott. I especially love the rain showerhead (which I'm lobbying Hubby to install in our home). Hubby hates these shower heads, though. He wants the sand-blasting intensity of water hitting him, not the soft-gentle-tropical rainfall that I love. Don't get me going on this - it's one issue that always creates angst whenever we go to Hawaii!
As another Yelper noted, elevators are challenging. People just don't read or understand. You end up in a full elevator with people getting frustrated because it doesn't stop on their floor. We never ate at any of the restaurants here - too many outside. Since we stayed with points, cannot comment on the rates, but I'm sure it can get pricey. -

Fabulous location. This is my second time staying here and it really was great. If you are an elite Marriott member, the concierge lounge is really great and save you money on not having to spend $$ on breakfast and appetizers/desserts at night. I didn't get my times square view so I'll minus one star for this stay. We got a view of the hudson and Jersey which was just ok.

Stayed here this past weekend using a friend's corporate discount. I'd definitely recommend this hotel for the following reasons:
1) Location is great (right in Times Square);
2) The rooms are HUGE by NY standards; and
3) Room renovations are a big improvement.
Only suggestion (and more so to Marriott) - time to buy new towels, the ones we had were a bit flimsy. -

I cannot comment on the accommodations, as I have not stayed here. The true amenity at this hotel, that can be experienced by anyone, is the lounge peering over Time Square. The view is incredible!

It's all about location, location, location. This hotel is perfectly located in the center of Times Square. This Marriott is close to practically everything in New York City.
I stay here every time I go to New York and that won't be changing anytime soon. The rooms are nice and if you have the opportunity to get a room overlooking Times Square go for it. The view is breathtaking and you definitely won't regret it.
The staff is very courteous and they try to accommodate your every need. I've never had a serious issue at this hotel.
Their breakfast is delicious and so is the food at their restaurant. If you can't stay at the Marriott then try to at least eat at their restaurant which overlooks Times Square. It's a perfect place for a nice evening dinner. -

I love the Broadway Lounge on the 8th floor!!! It overlooks Times Square and it is sooo beautiful at night. They have nice drinks, and a glass of champagne is about $10. The strawberry shortcake slider dessert was very good, but extremely small... definitely not made for sharing!

If you can't afford the rates at this perfectly placed hotel in Times Square, at least take the elevator to the 8th floor and enjoy a cocktail in the lounge overlooking the bustling city. The martinis are generous, perfectly mixed, and you get the shaker to boot! Warning, they are expensive... top shelf is $17.50. Service is friendly and the hotel is quite impressive.

Review from Travis W.
Perfect hotel if you want to be in the heart of Times Square. Other than that, I wasn't all that impressed. Seemed a bit outdated in terms of the interior lobby areas as well as the interior bedrooms, etc. Probably only a decade or so old though....2003'ish. Couple restuarants on site and two Starbucks as well as some different stores for shopping in to keep you busy (as if you needed another thing in NYC to keep you busy). The staff was quick to help with bags and very efficient with the check in and check out process. We were lucky enough and they were gracious enough to check us in early (like 9:00am) and give us a late check out (1:00pm) on the day of our departure, so they will certainly accommodate if they can it seems.
In terms of room rates I found this hotel to be a steal for it's location so that was it's greatest appeal, although next time I probably won't stay in Times Square....too touristy for my liking :)Listed in: Hotel....Motel....Holiday Inn?

Great hotel with great location for Times Square events. All staff extremely helpful and pleasant. Two resturants in building with nice views, especially on 8th floor. Elevators sort of strange, but the good thing about them is they do not stop at every floor. Conceirge lounge needs another serving table to manage the crowds but a beautiful room with a view. I will stay there again for sure!

The first thing you have to comment on when you think about the Marriott Marquis are the elevators. There is a giant column right in the middle of the building surrounded by glass elevators that zoom up and down constantly. While they look cool, it's IMPOSSIBLE to avoid the crowds of seriously confused tourists and visitors who can't figure out the "type in your floor and then go to the elevator with the letter that comes up on the screen" game. After a few times you really get tired of it.
Once you get up the elevators the hotel rooms are no different than your standard Marriott rooms. The renovated rooms feature updated furniture and nice big flat screens. The showerhead was one of those wide rainfall ones and the hot water worked well.
The lobby is on the 8th floor (which is annoying), but if you're an elite member you can check in on the 1st floor near the crowds of confused tourists. The gym is on the 23rd floor and it's really nice for a hotel gym - tons of cardio equipment and plenty of freeweights and weight machines. The concierge lounge on the 30th floor had a great breakfast spread, but the evening snacks were disappointing. -
Review from Tom E.
This is where I stay when I with my family in NYC. The central location is great- but is always busy. Right next to the theaters and in the heart of Times Square (if you are into that kind of thing).
The actual hotel is your typical Marriott- they did put in flatscreens in the rooms now. You get great views if you are high enough and on the right floors.
The elevators are cool but be weary if you are afraid of heights!
This is probably the best deal if you want to stay in the square.
Beware though, room service is expensive!
Always plenty of taxis around too and right next to train station for easy access around the city. -
Review from Jason N.
I enjoy staying at this hotel. It is conveniently located right in Time Square. The rooms are good sized with enough space with a good bathroom with high water pressure in the shower.
Beds are comfortable with plush comforters and clean thick towels.
Service from the front desk, concierge, bell desk, and cleaning are all courteous, fast, and efficient. I have not had any problems with any of the times I have stayed here over the last several years.
One thing that I really do appreciate about the hotel is the elevator system. The central core of the elevator bank you punch in your floor and it tells you which elevator to go to. This allows travel to be grouped by floors. That way your don't have 20 people crowding a single elevator and hitting 10 different floors.
The only thing that I don't care for with the Marriott is the ethernet cable internet in the room with no wifi and an additional charge for access. in this day and age really?Listed in: Lodging

The location is primo. You can't get a better spot if you want to see the sights of New York City. Right outside is Times Square and most views overlook at least part of it.
Elevators: We loved them. They are fast, super fast. The elevator system is designed so that no one waits long. We didn't have any trouble with them at all.
Rooms: Nice sized rooms which are big for NYC. Ours was clean and neat when we arrived.
Food: We didn't eat in the Hotel so I can't comment.
Staff: Some of the friendliest people in NYC.
Noise: The hotel was quiet. I could hear the person on their cell phone in the bathroom above and below me however.
Privacy: Beware of hotels in NYC especially cheaper ones. You'll have to share a bathroom with other rooms. This one has a bathroom in every room as one would expect.
Decor: Not bad. The style of the building is unique. The floors overlook an open area which reminds me of the Luxor in Vegas.
Surprises: The lobby is on floor 8. That surprised me when I tried to check in. I'm used to the lobby being the first thing you see as you enter. -
Review from Thais A.
Best beds, comforters, and pillows in New York City, by far!
I just spent an entire week at this lovely establishment for the National Model United Nations Conference, and while I didn't get to enjoy the city as much as I would have liked to, it was refreshing going to sleep at night on pillows that felt like heaven.
Every evening when we ventured back to the room our beds were neatly made, and new fresh towels were restocked and ready to go. Always consistent!
Dead center of Time Square! You're literally in the middle of it! Very touristy, but if you're rarely in NYC, that may be exactly what you're looking for.
The cons: Wi-Fi was a nightmare, they offer it complimentary, but the signal was terrible. Rarely could we use the internet in our rooms, and it was nonexistent on the 8th floor of the hotel. This became very frustrating after the third night.
The elevators were also a huge mess. It could take up to 20 minutes to navigate from the 34th floor to the 1st floor. I'm hoping that this was only because of the conference and not a normal thing that hotel guests have to endure. On the upside, the elevators are pretty cool, they look like space shuttles and actually do travel at an alarmingly fast speed.
But my five star rating will remain the same as I sincerely believe the two cons were only because of the large conference that was being held that week. -
Review from Patricia B.
Troy, MI
Being a victim of misleading four star hotels in the NY area in the past, I was both nervous and concerned that my expensive trip to New York was going to be marred with bed bugs and poor service.
I'm here to tell you that I wish my annual RWA Conference would use the Marriott Marquis over and over.
I was wonderful. The service level was exemplary. The room was freaking awesome, and I didn't feel like I was away from home. I often forgot to where my shower shoes, which is a great stretch for me.
If you have the opportunity, I would strongly suggest this hotel. It's quite $$, but I didn't mind spending that for the safety, comfort and style that it offered. -
Review from Jana C.
Paid $140 on Priceline for a Monday night in early May. Given a choice, I would likely stay at another hotel.
Cons:
1. Beds uncomfortable. The sheets were coming off and exposing the mattress. That is just disgusting.
2. Thin walls. We could hear people talking, toilets flushing...all the fun stuff.
3. No free wifi
4. Really odd elevator system. You can't just go up in an elevator. You have to type in the floor number and then find the appropriate elevator.
5. Outdated decor. Made you feel like you were in a Vegas casino.
Pros:
1. Good location in the center of it all.
2. Didn't go, but the view from THE VIEW restaurants is supposed to be one of the best if you are wanting a nice drink or dessert with a nice view.
3. Rooms fairly good size.
4. Two Starbucks' in the hotel. -
Review from Nancy P.
Right in the heart of Times Square, the Marquis is a pretty posh looking building. Loved the bag checking service since we had multiple heavy luggage and wanted to wander the city asap.
We stayed on the 34th floor. Did anyone else notice how fast the elevator shoots up? While you're in the elevator, you get to see all the floors and rooms as you go up. It makes you feel pretty insignificant..like in the Matrix..in one of those pods out of millions.
The rooms are nice even though we didn't have much of a view. The rooms must be pretty new since ours still smelled like paint.. But the bed was comfy and the room was clean.
They had a taxi service area that had heat lamps yay!
The best part, aside from being in Times Square...You're next to a Junior's Cheesecake. -

I chose this place based off of the reviews. Here are a few good and bad things about the hotel.
1. Location - Time Square super cool if that is where you want to be. Close to all broadway shows, hells kitchen, subways, 48th floor rotating lounge. Cooler than empire state bldg in my opinion. You can have drinks, food and watch new york in full circle!
2. Room - Here are my issues and maybe it's me as a Californian. No bathrobs, no soap for the sink, no fridge as I requested (well in advance). Pillows not that great. Blow dryer was melted (I don't use one) but it was so tacky and ugly. Spend $10 and get a new one. No laundry plastic bag for your used clothes.
3. Lobby - on the 8th floor it was nice and had an open atrium, bar area. Starbucks on 8th and 1st floor. Service was nice no complaints on the satff. The business center was convenient to print out our boarding passes (free).
4. Elevators - Very cool all glass and you can see the entire hotel going up and down. Painful when it gets towards the weekend and you have to stop at every floor. But that's part of it I guess.
5. Gym - Free and lots of cardio machines with TV. Free weights. Overlooks time square and they give you free water and fruit after. Towels available and a staff member onsite.
6. Taxi Service - Convenient if you need a cab insted of the subway. Lines can get long so beware and go early if it's during rush hour or dinner time.
I would stay here again -
Review from Liz R.
Ken and I stayed here for our 09/2009 vacation. I used points to stay (I was Gold Elite at the time). They gave us a nice room on a higher floor, but we did not have a view of Times Square (I know, I'm griping about a 'free' room... but I can't help it. Us frequent business travelers get overly bitter if we aren't treated like royalty all the time.)
Huge, huge hotel. If you're looking for a smaller, boutique Marriott property nearby then I'd recommend the Renaissance. But, if you want to be in the heart of Times Square, definitely do the Marquis.
I was never informed that they had an Elite lounge (which means no free breakfast, no free internet, no free apps and drinks in the afternoon). If you're Elite - ASK! -

I really wanted to write a mean review after my most recent stay but as I've thought back the things that made me so upset weren't THAT bad...just not as good as other "top" hotels.
1- They have no microwave...they say it's against Marriott policy incase someone tries to reheat their leftovers and then sues if they get sick. So dumb. I hate that people are crazy!!
2- No bottled water in the conceirge lounge. I'm all about being green but really...I don't want to drink sparkling water!
Like I said, there are some good points- good location and big rooms but compared to other Marriotts in the city (specifically the Marriott Downtown by the financial district) the customer service and the conceirge lounge just aren't up to par. -
Review from Brian Y.
Great hotel with a nice location if you're looking to be in the middle of Times Square. Didn't have any serious problems at all with my stay. Worth noting that the rooms are significantly larger than many other rooms in NYC hotels. So many other hotels have rooms so small that the maximum occupancy is two; on a weekend trip, my friends and I were able to comfortably sleep four of us in our room without feeling the least bit cramped.

Now don't get me wrong...for someone who hasn't been to NY before, the lights might be dazzling and the thrill of Times Square could make this Marriott a place to remember...who needs Vegas, when you have bright neons in your face all night long?
However, if you've lived in NY before, like I did, and the purpose of the trip is business, then the Marriott is just a convenient place with yes, great views of Midtown and yes, a reliable source of breakfasts.
But if you want to go authentico, go Uptown and leave the neons to the neophytes. -

I have stayed in this hotel 5 times in the last few months and this will be my last time.
As Marriotts go this hotel is so so. The rooms are a decent size especially for Times Square. The elevators are probably the worst part about the hotel. The trip up always makes me sick and you may have to wait up to 10 minutes to get one.
The food is lack luster, both the concierge lounge happy hour and room service. They do have a good breakfast in the concierge lounge.
House keeping leaves something to be desired. They have not left new soap 3 days in a row and now I'm out.
The hallways on my floor smell like something died. I know they are remodeling and this may be the cause but I don't like smelling things like that (obviously).
While in the bathroom each morning, I can hear conversations from other rooms coming through the vents which is creepy.
If you want a nice Marriott, I've had good experiences with the Marriott Downtown. The area is quiet there and the staff is nice, so is the hotel. If you are open to any hotel I would recommend the Westin Times Square. -

We came to NYC for out "babymoon". I ma pregnant and due in 5 weeks. It was a great location for us because I didn't have to walk far to get to anything! The room was on the 34th floor and was very spacious with a GREAT bed. My husband and I are kind of "bed snobs" and we loved it! Had several nights of restful sleep.
The only reason I did not not give this hotel 5 stars is that there seemed to be a lot of hidden/not made clear costs. The internet in your room is not free (although I was able to steal access through other nearby networks pretty easily). AND- the room service charges were not at all clear. We ordered breakfast and the menu said that "an 18% service charge HAS been applied". Not at all true- they meant WILL BE applied.
Overall- we had a great experience!
Hope this helps! -

I came here for the wedding expo, which, in and of itself, was insane. But I'll restrict this review to the venue experience itself.
I feel like this Marriott embodies Time Square. It feels a bit run down - maybe it's dark or something? - but it's definitely clean. There are swarms of people. What's sort of strange is that someone else had to press the elevator button for our group given the floor we were going to.
When I asked where the bathroom was, I got a very annoyed, "Up the stairs." There should be more signs, especially given all the traffic this hotel gets.
Not sure how the rooms are, but I felt overwhelmed as a one-hour guest.
