Possibly 3. 5 Stars...This used to be Dicks Market years ago. It is a small residential market that serves the dual Asian and Mexican Demographic of those who live in the Lakewood Village area. Not to sound racist, as other races live there too. I am (white) What is interesting, is I feel like I am taking a step back in time like 30 years when I go in there. I do not know, that is just how I feel. What the hell do I know.

But they do have an interesting eclectic mix of foods at this place. so I would go here if you are looking for some foods or ingredients that you are having a hard time finding, when preparing a dish that is foreign in culture and taste.

We get most of our groceries here.

They have the best fish market in the area. Their selection and quality is usually better than 99 Ranch (MV) and the fishmonger is really friendly and helpful. In particular, they have excellent trout, salmon, mackerel, and yelloweye. The produce is consistent and inexpensive, though the selection is not as wide as a typical supermarket, unless you're looking for the odd asian vegetable.

They stock balut. Saw a guy walking out with a tray of them once...

I love it 'coz it's near my place. I don't have to drive to Ranch 99 just to buy one bunch of spinach. They have promotions from time to time and I was happy to find young coconut at $1 for two! I think their range of vegetables can be cheaper from Ranch 99 (normal price) but not the variety. I think they sell mostly oriental/asian, but you can see mexican products there too. I haven't check out the meat and fish dept, but it was pretty crowded on Sunday.

I don't like the 'boring' & 'cold' atmosphere there, so usually I just get in, shop, pay and go.

I just moved nearby here, so I decided to check it out to grab some Asian snacks.  I'll stop by here regularly to grab Pocky, other biscuits, and some salty rice cracker/nut snacks.  Oh, and maybe some Mexican soda.

Place seems ok, and clean enough.  I only ever get packaged stuff, so I can't comment on the 'freshness' of anything.  My only quibble is that they don't have any bags of straight up rice crackers (without peas or nuts mixed in), which are my favorite.  Then again, I have a hard time finding bags of that anyway.  But I sure wish they had them :(

Lines are fast, checkout people are nice, can't ask for much more in that regard.

I love this place.  I live in the neighborhood and I am so glad to have a market nearby for last minute items.  The people are always very nice and helpful.  I don't use it as my only grocery store.

The meat and fish rock, to the point that I will make a special trip to buy it there.  I also like supporting the neighborhood businesses.

OMG I'm old...

I remember when this place used to be Dick's Supermarket (back then Dick was a nickname used for Richard).

It was a good homey grocery store at that time and now that it's the New Wing Yuan Market, it's still serves the neighboring population that surrounds the center.

I do occasional shopping here - and like other Yelpers have said - when I don't feel like going to Ranch 99. Safeway at Rivermark can get really crowded, and when I'm just needing a few items, it's easy to run in and get out quickly.

Their fried talapia is wonderful (and it's great to bring to a party) - and you don't have to clean it or get your own kitchen fishy smelling to have great tasting fish!

Their produce selection can be iffy sometimes. Check around - sometimes it's not the freshest. Otherwise, good deals to be found especially in their meat and grocery sections.

This place is a quick place to shop and you'll find a lot of oriental items maybe not as much as Ranch Market but save yourself the parking and getting hit my carts by elderly people who aren't paying attention.

The only thing I don't like about this place is the snobby owner. She wears glasses and maybe looks in her 30's? She's such a bitch. One time I bought pork blood so my family could make dinuguan(sp?) a Filipino dish and she was in a hurry ringing me up. There wasn't even anyone behind me yet she insisted to throw my groceries around. The pork blood was spilling and she asked me what was wrong. I said the pork blood is leaking and she just double bagged it and brushed me off.
UGH.

If I can escape her line I always do before I slap her!

Was in the area and tempted to get some Giovanni's pizza so drove into the strip mall. Was curious about this Asian/Chinese supermarket a couple of doors from Giovanni's so decided to drop by. New Wing Yuan was a surprising big place and reasonably well stocked with many of the usual Asian groceries. Also was clean and seemed organized.  The only thing was that it had that typical cold florescent lighing so the whole place seemed rather depressing.

Bottom line: It's no Ranch 99 but if you need Asian groceries and veggies around the Lawrence/101/Sunnyvale area and don't want to drive to Milpitas or Cupertino, this is a pretty convenient place with lots of parking. I wish they change their lighting or add more colors so I don't feel so dang depressed when I walk around here. Bring some Prozac with you.

So my mom..MY MOM(you heard right)found this place.  I come from a long line of seafood lovers, and have discovered my love for oysters, any kinda shellfish, and FISH.  When I was in college, my mom used to surprise me with  fried tilapia.  I know...sounds fishy...but so good!  I never knew that my mom used to go to Ranch 99. How did she get so hip?  Tragically, the mountain view location closed, and wolfe/sunnyvale was too far for her.

Fast forward to present day, and a lent filled friday AGAIN.  I can't be creative with my choices...but my mom does, and she sure knows how to surprise me.  Finally, my own tilapia!  Crispy, crunchy, full of flavor, sprinkle some lemon, and enjoy.  $1.83 per pound, so it was about 3 bucks for my lil guy.  Totally delish!

On a recent visit to my parent's, I had seen the chowing down on some fried Tilapia.  I wondered...what about me...where could I get some, what about a bite left for me?

I drove by the joint...and discovered it's in a strip mall, behind a gasoline station. It's a little Asian market with basic items for your pleasure.  Tragically, I don't go for the produce, but like their cookie and fruit juice/drink section.

Picture all types of stuff, and a seafood section.  All you do is walk up, pick your fish, have the guy (in this case super friendly latin gentleman) fry it...pack it, and away you go.

Truly a wonderful...once in a while experience...and if you don't want to drive to Ranch 99 or deal with parking issues, then this is your next best bet.   I mean the tilapia is not the healthiest...but good  for those "in a pinch moments."

All I needed was a beer and a sunset...oh wait...it's still lent...and I have to go back to work.

Good for your one stop shop after eating at Saigon Village next door.  However, the selections are limited and the produce isn't always that fresh.

But if you need a quick run to buy soy sauce or oil and you live around the area, this place is the way to go.

I can't wait for the new Ranch 99 to open up!

This is the closest grocery store to my office. Safeway at Rivermark plaza is a little farther away, but I hate the lack of parking there. At first, I always drove past and ignored New Wing Yuan and its equally bootsy looking neighbors, but I have started to develop an affection for it. Yes, its pretty dingy looking, but they have lots of pluses.

I like that they have unique rice, last time i went there i got some pretty tasty jasmine brown rice. of course most asian markets have lots of rice.

I also like their produce mark-downs. they mark down huge amounts of bruised or otherwise damaged fruits and vegetables. lots of times the stuff isnt worth getting, but they have a whole cartful every day, so you never know what you might get. i am a big fan of surprises. ive been able to snag big bags of slightly imperfect korean pears and green beans for a dollar.

they have a pretty decent snack section, which is always good to peruse when I need to get out of my cubicle. They sell big bags of the sweet/salty coated japanese rice crackers called "bin bin" for 69 cents each. my latest and greatest find was a product from Taiwan called Cheese Mochi. it is an amazing thing. oh-so-wrong, yet oh-so-right. basically you take that gummy rice delicacy that is the outside part of japanese mochi, inject a bright orange cheez-whiz filling, and coat it with chocolate. the first time i bought it, they also had strawberry and mocha-filled versions, but by the time i got back to try those, they were gone. still, i have returned several time for the cheese mochi. its $1.49 for 7 individually wrapped packages. an extraordinary taste sensation that i would recommend for my fellow food adventurists.

there is a minimum purchase amount of $10 for credit cards.

update: I went back for the cheese mochi, but they dont seem to have it anymore. instead, they have only peach and mango versions, which are now 40 cents more. The filling is essentially a very thick jam, surrounded by marshmallow, with the same yellowy riceness covered in a thin layer of chocolate.

I know the whole point of yelp is to go out every night to a different restaurant so you can have more reviews and make more friends (~_^), but I have this horrible habit of cooking for myself... Problem is, I love a lot of Asian food that I don't know how to cook. However, thanks to the internet and Kinokunya (http://www.yelp.com/bi...), I'm well on my way to learning. So....

I need ingredients! Safeway is good for... wait, what are they good for? I hardly shop there anymore except to go to their deli and sometimes I buy fresh-cut steaks. To cook Chinese food you need New Wing Yuan Market. They have most everything you need, though their produce section isn't too great (last time I went, they didn't have any red chiles!! what the hell?). They do, however, have some of the best lychees around. Hooray!
Plus they have some Japanese, Vietnamese, Filipino, and even Mexican ingredients.

Best part is they're they only market in walking distance from my mother's house. I hate having to drive to the store every time I forget to buy some garlic.

Jeannette also pointed out that they clean and deep fry your fish upon request. Convenient! I also like to buy their Korean beef cuts, since I'm not that great at slicing beef up thinly.

This is in my 'hood, so I'm there a lot.  This is comparable to the 99 Ranch markets but a bit smaller.  However, the parking is better, the aisles are wider and clear (they don't pile stuff at the end of the aisles), and they CLEAN and DEEP FRY your fish if you want them to for free!  Yeah, they do this at the Ranch markets too, but the lines aren't as long here, and did I mention that parking is better here??

Another plus, they cater to the Filipinos and Mexicans in the neighborhood by having an entire aisle for their ethnic ingredients!

Like some of the other places in this mall, it's bigger than what you see from the outside. Not as crazy as Ranch 99 or Lion market but still a decent selection of Asian goods. My friend lives not too far away and has great stories about little old ladies trying to muscle him out while he gets seafood on the weekends. Good practice for the Dim Sim line over at Hong Kong Saigon Village next door.

The smallness of the exterior belies the largeness of the interior.  Indeed, this is the Tardis of local Asian markets.

This store has a good selection of cheap Asian staples, and it's nearly always deserted.  It's definitely a lot easier to move around in than any other Asian market in town.

It's very easy for me to pop in on the way home and pick up some quick tofu and ground pork and noodles and whatnot for very cheap.  I also habitually pick up the small cans of coconut milk, which are the perfect size for peanut-sauce-for-2.  They have these at Ranch 99 as well, but who wants to fight the crowds?

I live half a mile from this store so it's in my hood.

They have fresh vegetables and the usual variety for Asian cooking. I don't buy the fish here since I go fishing myself but the pork and chicken are fresh. I buy the beef ribs and those are pretty good. I did buy some beef steaks once and they were old.

This store also sells a pretty good variety of beer and carries some Hispanic products as well. The dinner rolls and baguettes are brought in fresh from a local bakery.

The parking lot gets packed on the weekends starting at 12noon b/c of the dim sum restaurant right next to it. Otherwise I like this store and the clerks speak Cantonese, Mandarin and Vietnamese.

This place is the closest Asian market to my house, so we come here fairly often. I love that they carry Ramune (Japanese marble soda) for a dollar a pop. I also like to get the packaged chicken drummettes to bbq. The prices are reasonable here. But watch out for the produce. My sister noticed that they retagged some moldy/wilting items with new exp. dates.

It's like the scene from Oliver Stone's Heaven and Earth. I felt like the little Vietnamese woman walking into a cornucopia of abundance and being wowed by the selections. It's not your glitzy, neon adorn "Ranch 99" but it will give you what you need. The store is clean with wide isles. Most of the Asian ingredients cater to the Hong Kong/Vietnamese/Mexican dishes that you want to make. Sometimes I actually end up going to three different Asian markets to find all the ingredients of one dish. I come here and kill three birds with one stone. Check out the picts I took while being amazed at the sterility and orderly fashion of this neighborhood gem!

If you feed your dog raw food, this is a great place to get it at.  A nice selection of organ meat, tons of beef, pork, chicken and fish.  You can usually get goat, as well as duck and quail.  And the prices are reasonable, too.  As it is on my way home from work, this is where I usually get Kohl's organ meat from.

This is your "99 Ranch is too far" destination for Asian groceries.  They have a fresh seafood and fresh meat section, but the "fresh" part is questionable.  With 99 Ranch, I'm sure they have a higher turnover of products to ensure fresher items.  With this place, it's usually dead.  Also, when looking for fresh fish you should look at the eyes (they should be normal and not red) and smell it (they shouldn't have a strong fish odor).  The times I went, they failed both tests on most fish there.  Who knows, maybe I went on a bad day.  However, they do have a huge selection of Asian items such as sauces, noodles, and vegetables.  They have items from different countries, including China, Japan, Philippines, and yes, even Mexico.  The service is always friendly and the wait in lines is non-existent.  Something I can't say about 99 Ranch unless you go there right when they open.

Great food selection. The produce area is very well kept clean. All the produce looks very fresh. I would recommend buying fruits and veggies from them. The fruits and veggies looks very fresh not even 99 Ranch has fresh looking produce like NEW WING YUAN! and New Wing Yuan is very well organize. BEST! looking oriental market ever. There meat section is great aswell provides very fresh meat and fish. You can get your fish cleaned and deep fried for free. Every aisle is kept to tip top condition. Workers are great and very nice people. i would HIGHLY recommend this market if youre planning to buy some top quality food from produce to meat A+++.
