An oasis in Tahoe for essential supplies left back at home in the bay area.
Had my favorite Kombucha flavors plus two I've never seen before. Picked up new digestive enzymes and anti-inflamatory...one of the guys made a call and confirmed what we were looking for. Friendly staff. Yummy prepared foods and for us gluten-free people, a variety of GF breads.

A short 15 min drive from Kings Beach.

I'm so coming back on next road trip up here.

While at school in Lake Tahoe I stumbled upon this market and what a delight it was! I agree with the others' comments on the prepared food  - it is delicious. I only had the salads and fake tacos because I was eating raw at the time. The "pump" stations for lotion, shampoo, and oils are really nice.I appreciated the great selection of gluten and nut free food!

I was especially impressed with the selection in the book area. I bought 4 books there!

I basically shopped there every day for 10 days. Next time I am in Tahoe, that is where I will do my marketing . . . again because the thought of Coconut Bliss ice cream  and a delicious salad while in Lake Tahoe floating down the Truckee River is too good an opportunity to miss out on!

This place has a really friendly vibe, and is genuinely vegan, complete with employees who wear those hippy crocheted rasta hats.  I tried a few things (see my photos):

    - house made chocolate medjool dates, stuffed with a macadamia nuts. Very good.

    - house made baklava.  meh.  Not enough layers of crispy filo; it's a blob of chopped nut goop in the middle, and it has a not-so-great burned honey flavor.

    - Their house made kombucha is excellent!  Not to be missed.

    - They stock "Uncle Eddie's Vegan Cookies" http://www.uncleeddies.../ The cookies are OK, but I think that the Alternative Baking Co cookies are better (which are also in stock here).

I agree with the other reviewers - this place is a real cool gem! I don't have much experience with health food stores - but this one seemed very organic - whereas some of the other ones I've been to feel a bit on the sterile side.

I chatted with the guy running the register - he said that even though it's very slow right now - they do enough business in the summer and winter peak seasons to make it.

I bought a cup of their Papaya salad and a bottle of carrot juice. Good Papaya salad!

The "Lady K" and I had just gotten off the slopes at Northstar and decided to grill out that night. We figured a natural food store would have better meat than the Safeway. Well, that's what we thought... New Moon really didnt have anything for us to grill BUT they did have some tasty side dishes they make on site!

Prices were a bit on the high side but what isnt at a natural market, right? Enjoy!

I was really excited to find this place. It has a great selection of foods.  Tasty prepared food and sushi.  The people who work there are very friendly as well.

Extra bonus points for being able to bypass the mobs at safeway.

Every community should be blessed with some decent opportunity for organic related products: produce, veggies, deli, beverages, condiments, body and tablet products.

Yes, prices are higher than a super market offering (Safeway) or the weekly Farmers' Market....BUT, you can certainly find specifics to satisfy an immediate need.

I tend to go to New Moon because of the convenience (rather than Safeway in Tahoe), the personal attention that staffers provide, the daily offerings of the deli....the North shore of Tahoe is blessed to have this little gem.

Try it......you may become a regular.

A cute little health food store at the corner of Granlibakken and Highway 89.  Jammed full of bulk food bins, organic produce, candles and a large selection of  "EU compliant" lotions and cosmetics that stopped my wife in her tracks.  Well stocked cold and frozen cases.  A modestly priced, but small, wine selection.  A separate deli-style kitchen inside "Stony Ridge Uncommon Kitchen" sells sandwiches and salads.  If you are looking for organics or natural food products in North/West Tahoe, check it out.

What a great 'lil kitchen, Uncommon Kitchen is!  Owned by the same folks who ran the delicious breakfast hangout, Stony Ridge, now run this great little find.  It is located in New Moon Foods on the West Shore, the food is fresh, certified organic (or close to it) and reasonably priced.  Not to mention the oh-so-fresh sushi.  Great spot to grab something for a picnic lunch, hike or for the boat.  We are fans and make it by every time we are in town.
