2 reviews for New Mill Restaurant
First a point about Yelp...
I always find it funny that whenever I try to edit the name of a listing which is incorrect, nothing gets done for 2-3 weeks. Then, when I finally get annoyed enough and say something snarky about how Yelp doesn't care about people in CT in my review, it gets fixed immediately.
Anyway, thanks, Yelp... Now my OCD side can hibernate again.
On to my review of the restaurant...
New Mill is pretty good. First of all, the setting is fantastic. As one might guess, it's a converted mill. The surrounding area is gorgeous and the woodwork inside gives the restaurant has a very warm feeling.
As for the food:
Clams Casino -- decent.
Antipasto -- very nice selection of cold cuts, cheeses, and marinated veggies.
Filet Mignon au Poivre -- excellent cut of meat, cooked perfectly. although, generally this sauce is supposed to have a touch of cream in it and their version did not, which i found disappointing.
Mashed Potatoes -- awesome.
Vanilla Bean Cheesecake -- good.
Service was very friendly, although our server wasn't terribly knowledgeable (but not clueless either).
The one real issue I had here were the prices. They were very high. Which is fine, but then all of those food items above should be described as "excellent."
It's still a better dinner than I might have at a lot of places, as the ingredients are of very good quality, but when a meal costs around $80 per person, I expect it to knock my socks off. This was a very pleasant meal and I enjoyed myself, but I could go to Bernard's Inn in Ridgefield and pay the same amount for a truly spectacular evening.
Regardless, I don't want to take away too many stars simply because their prices raise expectations to a level they aren't really able to deliver on. I mean, it was a very enjoyable meal in a very relaxed setting and I left happy, so it's not like they failed miserably or anything.
I'd be willing to go back and give it another shot. Perhaps I won't order a steak that costs $45 next time...
we went here for a work function and it was an overall positive experience - we were a pretty large group and they had no problems with our orders or keeping the meal progressing, the atmosphere was pretty nice but i don't really understand the jungle theme for what is trying to be a steak house. the menu didnt have a lot of vegetarian options but they worked with me on my selection and it was very good.. everyone liked their meals, i heard no complaints and we all had a great time.
