Went on a Friday night, empty as expected, which is a little weird, although it is in that goofy "dead zone" of Belmont where everything that opens fails....
Seasame Chicken-Yum, real white meat chicken!! Not the weird chunks of strange dark meat like at china buffets. Light breading, good broccoli.
Crab Rangoon-not awful, but skip these for sure
Kung Bao Lo Mein-yummie! Noodles were skinnier than expected, not the thick ones Im used to at the China buffet, but still pretty good.
BYOB, nice touch :) -

I have been to New Jeanny's Chinese Restaurant numerous times back to when it was still Old Jeanny's Chinese Restaurant. The food has always been ok nothing is bad but nothing is great.
The one big issue I have is the egg rolls seem different every time. Sometimes they have a peanut butter taste to them other times they are more meaty and other times more veggies sometimes they have tasted real good other times ehhh. The size seems to change also and I wonder if they have 2 egg rolls the ones they give out free when you spend over a specified dollar amount and you get the free egg roll and the regular ones on the menu. Cause the small ones which im guessing are the freebies are never as good. Not only do the egg rolls change the sweet and sour sauce is different too. They use to give out the what I think was home made sauce in a little container and if you asked for more they would give your the packaged crap... hate to give the customer the good stuff they will like more of right. Now it seems they have moved to all packaged crap.
Consistency is king for me when I crave Chinese food it starts with a egg roll and if I can't count on a good egg roll Jeanny we have a problem. -

You know there are those restaurants that are key staples - they are quick, taste pretty decent regardless if you are hungover or completely sober, and they microwave well the next day (or 2) as leftovers. For me, that go-to is Chinese food.
I tried this place after yelping decent places in the area. Looked at the menu and it was fair - can be considered pricey, but you have to consider the area. I walk in and I am kinda nervous, I am the only person in here and they do not close for another 1hr or so. However, I am hungry and decide to move forward.
I decided on the Spicy Hot Chicken and Vegetable Egg Rolls. It was ready in like 10 minutes! Another bonus for me. I get home, rip the box open and I notice it is more stir fry and sauce then actual chicken and there is no spice. My egg roll was equally lack luster.'
In short, it was okay and served the purpose. I am definitely not in a hurry to get back. I'd rather wait on delivery from a better place if it means good food and only a marginally longer wait time. -

I FOUND A METAL OBJECT IN MY FOOD:
I ordered delivery from the restaurant and had the sesame chicken, singapore chicken chow fun, egg rolls and some egg drop soup.
I keep my standards VERY LOW for chinese food delivery. What do you expect? I don't mind greasy comfort chinese food when I don't feel like going outside. What's wrong with Netflix and chinese food delivery?
The delivery was pretty fast and the food tasted pretty good. I was kind of excited to order from this place again in the future.
I was eating the chicken chow fun when suddenly I bit my tooth on something very hard and sharp and almost choked on the stupid thing. I spit it out into my napkin to find a sharp metallic hook! It looked like a fish hook or something? A piece of wire that was twisted? The piece of metal was about twice the size of a staple.
I called the restaurant to tell them about the chow fun metallic object fiasco (more like chow NOT fun if you ask me). They didn't really believe what I was telling them and wanted me to bring the leftovers to the restaurant with the metal shard before they could refund any of my order. They only wanted to refund me for the cost of the chow fun. I told them the leftovers were in the garbage (curried noodles all over the place). They insisted that I fish them out of the garbage and bring them to the restaurant before they would offer any sort of refund.
CONCLUSION: Extremely poor customer service and very insensitive when you tell them that you find metal in their food. Food is decent and delivery is fast. -

I can't believe I haven't reviewed New Jeanny's. I've gone here every so often for about 2 years. The service is always fast- for example, I once walked in, ordered, and the food was ready in 4 minutes. Some might say that is too fast but I didn't mind. If you're dining in, there are usually tables available and no wait. The food is pretty standard Chinese- I have not been overly wowed by the food but it is good, and they have a wide selection and huge portions.

I ordered combination lo mein, and sesame chicken for delivery on 1/23 (Chinese New Year) and was very impressed. Not only was the quality of the food great but it also came 20 minutes before the quoted arrival time. The delivery person was very polite, excited, and surprised when i wished him a "Happy New Year". I was very happy and will be ordering from New Jeanny's in the future.

I have to say, I do like New Jeanny's. I just, on occasion, get a "wait, is this what I ordered?" feeling. I've dined in once and it was delicious. Amazingly huge amounts of food so you'll have left-overs for while. Each subsequent visit has been take-away. Here are a few notes:
1- The egg rolls taste different every time. Not bad, just different.
2- Is Lo Mein different in Chicago than in most other states? I ordered Lo Mein one time only from here, and it was like Chow Mein with ramen noodles. However, I noticed the same thing at a Panda Express here, which is why I'm curious if that's just how it is here
3- If you don't try the Mu Shu ANYTHING you're missing out.
If you dine in, it's BYOB so that's pretty awesome, unless it's you and a friend, and a group of already drunk people in the place, and that's it. Then it's kind of annoying. But that's not at fault to the restaurant.
Get the tofu and mushrooms if you REALLY like mushrooms. So good. -

Ordered here for the first time a couple nights ago and this place quickly replaced my favorite place for Chinese. Order was delivered within 20 min or less. The food was ridiculous. I got the lemon shrimp - that sauce is to die for, plain fried rice, and the fiance got Kung Bao Chicken with lo mein. He loved it too. Not as heavy or saucy as other places. Reheated well too. We will definitely be ordering from here in the future.

Not that great... I had a lunch special. The spring roll came with it, but when I cut it open, I saw the meat was still raw like red and bloody raw...
The orange chicken was okay, but the chicken fried rice side was kinda bland...
My lemonade was "orange" and not really lemonade.... All this is verified in my photos... -

Wow! They came exactly 20 minutes after I ordered on http://grubhub.com and everything was piping hot! The food is pretty much the same as the closed Chinalite restaurant.. why did they close? I remember the prices were a bit lower than chinalite anyway and you're getting the same exact food anyway. Chinalite was also super fast with delivery and very reliable.. I always knew that I was going to get my food right away.
The egg rolls are good enough to satisfy my egg roll craving but they're not as good as Moy Lee on the north side. Moy Lee has the best egg rolls ever. The crab ragoon is big and pretty good. I really really like the crispy tofu appetizer and I can't get that anywhere else. I really love all of the entrees I have tried. They give you a lot of nice quality chicken and vegetables. The sauces taste good too. You can request no MSG in all of your food so that's a big plus. Each entree is enough to satisfy 2 people in one meal. They give you plenty of sauce packets so you don't need to worry about that. They also give you fortune cookies and almond cookies :) :)
I'm very happy with New Jeanny. Thank you. -

Oh, New Jeanny's. You're like that lover I don't want to love, but keep coming back to over and over again. You know, I tried to play the field, I did. I tried to explore relationships with other Chinese food joints and find something better but, inevitably, I kept coming back to you. And, now I realize it's for good reason. Yours is the only Chinese food I've found that truly satisfies. Every. Single. Time. I don't know what I was thinking stepping out on you. Please, accept my apology. I promise never to do it again.
But, to keep me around (forever and ever), mind changing your crab rangoon up a bit?
Loves,

Fast and friendly delivery, so points are awarded for that. Came in ~ 50 minutes, which was 15 min less than the quoted time.
The compliments basically end there..... because New Jeanny's did what I thought was impossible..... they made crab rangoons not good. Their crab rangoons are not a little folded wonton deal, they are a triangle shape. They are a) huge for a crab rangoon and b) don't stay crisp on the outside due to the triangle shape. The whole middle of the triangle is just soft breading and cream cheese. The edges are crisp but the middle is just a blob. NOT yum. My hangover was not happy with crappy rangoons.
The sesame chicken was high quality white meat chicken, so that was nice to see. HOWEVER, it's your typical sesame chicken that's breaded, fried, and tossed in sauce...... which is fine....... BUT....... By the time the chicken got to me, the breading was mushy because it had been sitting in the sauce. New Jeannys, you need to improve your breading pronto so that it can hold up to your sauces. I've had sesame/orange/general tso chicken (it's all the same) delivered from a million other places that didn't have soggy breading issues.
Considering the abundance of Chinese delivery options in LP/LV, I highly doubt NJ is going to see another order from me. -

FINALLY! I found a decent Chinese food restaurant. It's been really surprising to me the lack of decent Chinese food places there is to choose from for dining in or delivery in this city.
I can't say I've been in New Jeanny's, nor can I even really tell you where it is, but I've ordered takeout from them several times. The menu and portions are huge (they even provide accurate pictures), they always get my order right, and their delivery fee is minimal.
The reason I like it so much is attributed to the fact that the vegetables were extremely fresh, the sauces were flavorful and thick, and the crab meat in my crab rangoon was actual meat and not just a glob of cream cheese thrown into a burnt won ton and a deep fried. -

Speedy delivery and the food is always hot. My order has always been correct. The food is decent for the price. I have been ordering from here for years. I have tried lots of others places and for the most part it all seems to be the same. I have never been blown away by Chinese delivery food, nor do I expect to. If you are looking for decent food, to arrive quickly and hot at a decent price, then you should really give this place a try.

THE GOOD: They came much sooner than their predicted delivery time, which was great because I was starving.
The sesame chicken - very flavorful. As everyone else on here has said, it is real white meat with no gristly, tendon-y things. The veggie lomein had lots of fresh veggies and was flavorful and not too salty. Free almond cookies. Huge portions. Low minimum delivery charge.
THE BAD: the sesame chicken is breaded, and because it sat in its sauce (flavorful sauce, remember) for a while, by the time it got to me the breading was soggy - so really not worth the extra calories because it didn't have the crunch. I'd be willing to try it in the restaurant though, just to see.
THE UGLY: the egg rolls. dry, pasty, unidentifiable fillings, no flavor, and the veggie egg rolls definitely had something meatlike in them.
I don't know. There are enough Chinese places out there that I don't think I'll order from NJ again. -
Review from Laura W.
I've been wanting to try New Jeanny's for a while because I noticed they have shrimp toast on the menu and i LOVE shrimp toast despite what Bourdain says. I also received a flyer in the mail from them with some decent coupons so I ordered a bunch of carryout from them.
We had the shrimp toast, which was pretty good, not the best I've had but #2 or #3 in my book. The crab rangoon was HUGE, the biggest ones I have ever seen in my life, at least 3x the size of anyone else's and they were good. The chicken pot stickers were my least favorite app.
I read so much about the sesame chicken so I decided to try it and the sauce was unlike any other sesame chicken sauce I've had. I think there was some BBQ sauce mixed in there which gave it a unique flavor. My friend liked this the best. I really liked the Mai Fun with chicken. The noodles were nice and thin and easy to twirl to get a big mouthful and the chicken was steamed so I felt it was one of the more healthier options on the menu.
Overall I am glad I finally tried it and I want to go back to try the lemon chicken. -

There is usually no-one in here everytime we've ever came here we are literly the only people eating which can be good and bad it depends on your mood. The food is reallly good! they give you tons of food! get quite a bit of food for your money way too much almost and the food is the best I've never had Chinese food this good!
We ordered the crab rangoon, orange chicken, beef pan fried noodles. So good! Crab Rangoon is probably my favorite thing in the entire world I've had it from pretty much everywhere. I can honestly say with 100% honesty from New Jeanny's it's the best! THE BEST
Overall, the food was great- best Chinese food I've had in the city so far. -

Pretty much standard Chinese-American fare. Except that I have to mention the quality of the chicken. This is just solid white chunks of chicken. No chewy pieces, no weird connecty tendons. It was just really delicious, when made into sesame chicken and sweet and sour chicken. I liked both dishes, and that's pretty good. It seems like a lot of the time, you end up liking one or the other, and that sucks. We also ordered BBQ pork fried rice, which is my favorite, and which you can't find at every Chinese joint. It was good here, too. Plenty flavorful, and not too greasy.
Two weaknesses: the crab rangoons and potstickers. Neither one of these appetizers was good. The potstickers were HUGE and hugely greasy, with not-tasty filling. The crab rangoons, which I didn't try, weren't liked by the husband. He said that they were standard thick-shelled crab rangoons, and neither one of us enjoy them at all.
So. Depending on what you like to eat at Chinese places, this might be the place for you. Might not, though.Listed in: Lazy Day Eats

I was in the area and stopped in for an early dinner based on Yelp reviews. For the first time ever, I was really disappointed by suggestions I've found on this service. I ordered the hot & sour soup which was alright but nothing special. For an entree, I think I ordered the orange chicken (although maybe the General Tso's chicken). I'm afraid that it's been a little over a month since I went. Either way, it was one of their specialty dishes yet there was nothing particularly great about it. I know that I'm spoiled living in Chicago because we have so many incredible local neighborhood options but the food simply tasted salty and a little pasty. Maybe I was there on an off night. There were only 2 other tables dining while I ate but there was nothing that made me want to return. I will say that the portions are pretty good but isn't that true of any Chinese restaurant???
My advice to anyone who thinks this is a great place is to go to Chen's in Wrigleyville if you want a similar environment or, better yet, Emperor's Choice or the Golden Bull in Chinatown. Their meats are all high quality and their seafood is always very fresh. If you want to see large servings, these places can't be beat. Spoiler Alert: The pea pod leaves/greens at the Golden Bull are possibly the best cooked vegetable I have ever tasted and well worth trying. -

Sweet merciful crap.
I love Chinese food so much it's borderline gross. So when my friend suggested we go for the most amazing sesame chicken in the universe, I was all for it, but skeptical about this "most amazing sesame chicken in the universe."
Is there some kind of moral about how people who doubt are stupid?
Because holy shit it IS the most amazing sesame chicken in the universe. I am reasonably certain there is crack or heroin in the batter or the sesame sauce or SOMETHING. But everything - and this goes for the General Tso's Chicken as well - is PERFECTLY fried, and the batter is AMAZING.
And the vegetable tempura we had as an appetizer was fucking GREAT as well.
As a sit-down restaurant, this place is pretty much 100% empty all the time, so when you eat there - you feel like some kind of mafia don, in your empty restaurant, only you're eating eggrolls and not meatballs. But as you're sitting there in the empty restaurant - you'll notice the delivery guy coming and going every 5 minutes or so. I can't even begin to imagine how much money this place makes from delivery of their fucking amazing food.Listed in: ROTD

The food is priced just right - the portions are huge which is even better. I love the pinapple rice and the vegetable egg foo young.
The delivery is quick and if you eat in, the service is great. I'll keep going back.
But don't get the orange chicken. Not good. -
Review from Sara P.
I went here on a Friday afternoon at around 2 pm with one other person. The restaurant was empty except for us. The decor was cute, a sort of modern take on a chinese restaurant.
We sat down and were given water immediately. The waiter was very good about keeping our glasses full the whole time, which is nice because the food is salty.
We ordered the pot stickers. We got 4 huge ones. The dough was pretty thick and the filling inside was good. Just as good as any place in Chinatown.
Then we split an order of the sesame chicken. The chicken was white meat, which was great. It was hot, and good. Salty! We had more than enough for both of us, and a huge thing of rice. I also liked that they gave us both almond cookies and fortune cookies.
Overall, good chinese food. When I have a craving, I will definitely go back here. -

I've only gotten New Jeanny's for delivery (never been there), but my boyfriend & I think the food is great. We've never ordered the stuff that some of the other reviewers have ordered, but the walnut shrimp, orange beef, crispy duck, and noodles in black bean sauce (I can't remember what the english words for that item specifically are on the menu) were all great. We've ordered several times now and haven't been disappointed.
The prices are okay--not mindblowing, but not bad either. We're hooked unless we can find someplace better that delivers to our place. -

a guy i dated and i used to order Jeanny's all the time; before they remodeled. the only thing i liked there was the general tao's because they served the broccoli on the side. THAT IS GENIUS.
now, the rangoons here are not good. they are the triangle ones that were always really "doughy." now there is no DOUGH in a RANGOON!!
so bad rangoons, not coming back. -

I admittedly was unfaithful to my regular Chinese delivery establishment because of potstickers and opted to try this place.
While they did have potstickers, the restaurant had taken the dish that I intended to order for my entree, off of their menu. I was forced to make a quick decision and ended up with sesame chicken, which had too much breading and not enough broccoli. Also, the eggrolls are small and too doughy for my taste.
Overall, the food arrived by the promised time, hot (even on a very cold night) and was packaged appropriately. -

I have been searching all over the North side looking for a good order of Egg Foo Young and I have found it! It's just perfect - fresh, the gravy wasn't too thick, cooked just right. And the portions are huge, and the price is so affordable. Everything we ordered was just great, and the best chinese I have found on the North side as of yet.
I am sorta mad because I just tried them recently. I live close by and walk by often, but it's usually empty so I thought...meh. But another New Jeanny's lover said the majority of their business is delivery, and I understand why! It's one of the only chinese delivery places and it was fast and hot when it got here!
If you're looking for good, solid and affordable chinese in or near Lakeview - New Jeannie's is your place! -

Good solid Chinese delivery. Its one of those places that has all the normal items and all the items taste exactly like you expect them too. They are usually REALLY quick, they say 45 minutes and are ringing the bell in about 20.
Huge Portions. -

If there's any time when I need Chinese food delivered, New Jeanny's is the first one on my mind.
I've dined in and have had food delivered for quite a few years. Their quality of service and their consistency in food preparation and taste has stood the test of time. At least for me anyways.
Mind you, any Chinese food not served in the mainland just can't compare. So you always need to understand the "handicap" that comes with most Chinese Restaurants in the states. Exceptions are usually made for those rare finds in China Town in any major city.
Specifically though, the servings are always generous, dine in or out. Some of their favorite dishes have changed throughout the years. But from what I understand, it was due to a change in management some time ago. So, I can understand circumstances and how the food they prepare might be altered.
Nonetheless, the food is always dependable when you've got the cravings. Also is the staff. Whenever I order, it's almost always the same guy who is probably always there if you ever go inside. Very pleasant, and caters to your needs without any attitude.
A friendly face behind the counter, warm and delicious food that'll put you into a coma - I highly recommend this place.Listed in: Chopsticks and Chicago

Fairly decent Chinese place. Governor's tofu is pretty good and not something i've seen before. On the sweet side but good.
Staff is very friendly. One of the nicest I've seen. On the night I went there was a pretty obnoxious group at the other table and the server didn't let it bug her and was still cheery. -

I like my Chinese food like I like my hookers: hot and dirt cheap. Oh, and, uh, prompt. That's why, despite it not being the best food in the city, I order from New Jeanny's at least once a month. It is by far the absolute fastest Chinese delivery in Chicago. Once it even came so quickly that I hadn't had time to run to the ATM, so the poor delivery guy had to walk to Walgreen's with me so I could get him some cash. It always arrives hot, and for what you pay the portions are huge. There are ALWAYS leftovers for the next day (or an hour later when you're hungry again).

Everyone has a Chinese place and this is mine;)
I love their sweet and sour chicken. My sister loves their chicken chop suey. They have GENEROUS portions and never skimp on the fortune cookies and almond cookies when we pick it up.
The restaurant itself is BYOB, and usually very quiet and fast service. This may look like some same old same old chinese place, but I have found their food to always taste and be fresh. Always delivered or ready for pick up when they say it will be. And their delivery guys are super friendly.
They also help you pack it up to take home if you can't finish what you got at the restaurant. -
Review from Robert S.
Is it the recession or something else that keeps this place virtually empty every time I visit? Their carryout business is busy and extremely efficient--the fastest delivery I've ever experienced. Unfortunately, their food doesn't match their sterling deliveries.
The egg rolls are a tad on the greasy side. Bland and uninspiring entrees that are just so-so. Most of their dishes are ok, but the lemon chicken is a mess; especially horrid when ordered in the restaurant because they serve it on a dish surrounded by two dozen lemon slices. As if the glop of lemony syrup the chicken (white meat, at least) is doused in, the lemons add an icky sweet flavor. The fried rice is passable, and their portions are decent.
Sticker-shock pricing, though, for my first time eating dinner in the restaurant. An appetizer, two soft drinks (refillable), two regular dinner entrees and a side of veggie friend rice cost us almost $40 with tip. Ouch. I'll continue visiting on my own, but only for lunch. -

Best Chinese food I've had outside of China (and of course $50 a plate Chinese restaurants).

When I say that I live right on top of this restaurant, I mean it - you can see up into my apartment building through a skylight in the restaurant!
The food isn't that great - about pretty standard stuff. I usually get the Sesame, Orange or Sweet and Sour Chicken, as well as the above average crab rangoon.
The place is always empty and I assume most of their business is carry out or delivery. Living here I have to say, the number of rodents I see running around in the alley behind the place concerns me quite a bit, but I've never seen inside the kitchen, so it may be pristine - and anyway, what Chicago alley isn't teaming with pests? Regardless, it never stops me from eating here - because sometimes I just have the craving (especially when I get home and my apartment smells like Chinese food). And I can't complain about the fact that it when I order carry out, it takes about 10 minutes from the moment of ordering to getting the food in my hands. Score!
Oh, one more bit of advice - the portions are generous. I always ask for the lunch (small) portion which still tends to be enough for a couple of servings. -

This is my single favorite Chinese take-out/delivery.
I struggled for about seven years to find a Chinese delivery worthy of my praise. Chicago certainly has an abundance of places to try but after finding New Jeanny's, the search was over. The food is excellent in quality, quantity and overall yummy-ness.
Any and all meals I ordered included my favorites of Veggie fried rice (which was spilling over with an excellent combination of vegetables) and Crab Rangoon. I tried the more standard and more Americanized dishes usually. I liked the Orange Chicken, the Sweet and Sour Chicken, the Beef Broccoli, etc. Everything is fresh, hot and delivered quickly. Out of my numerous orderings, there have been a few delayed deliveries but the ratio is certainly manageable. -

Yes, it is very odd that the times I have eaten in this restaurant it has been completely empty. Still, the food is above average for standard American-Chinese, and the service is friendly and efficient. The potstickers aren't quite as good as what you'll find in Chinatown, but the Crispy Tofu is something for which I will return again and again. Their version is extremely light and crunchy (must be corn starch in the coating) and the mixed peppers and onions add the perfect spicy kick.
I've also enjoyed their friend rice, noodle dishes and entrees - all perfectly serviceable and handily winning my endorsement. Again, it's not "fine" dining by any stretch, nor is it as exciting as the more traditional Chinese places to be found in Chinatown, but what they do they do very well. -

Food is good generally. I had one bad lunch special experience where the chicken seemed quite hard and either miscooked or frozen too long. About 3.5 star quality but their hostess is rude and they have a painstakingly strict attitude about both bringing your menu coupon AND mentioning it before the order. No if's, and's, or but's. I've been coming for 6 years and the attitude hasn't warmed any.
