I heard this place is famous for its dim sum. I have been here twice but I have never tried its dim sum.

I enjoyed the food. They are tasty. But I am sure some other restaurants in the area make just as good if not better dishes.

I was surprised by how empty it was during my visit on a recent evening. There are lots of tables around but only several were occupied.

They have a huge parking lot as well.

The servers looked kind of bored when we were there because there were not a lot of customers. But they were attentive enough to us.

    Dim sum virgin no more.

I went to lunch here with some coworkers and had a great time. I went crazy for the Lo Mai Gai (added a mix of chii sauce and soy with it...per my expert dim sum friends). Loved the Pork Shumai and ate loads of broccoli with oyster sauce. Next time, I'd skip the short ribs...it was a little too greasy for me.

As a dim sum newbee, here are my tips for a successful dim sum:

1- Go with a large groups. It's more fun to be with a large group for one, but two dim sum will cost less with more people. Generally you want a bit of everything and they have multiple pieces in each order...enter friends to share.

2- Go with dim sum veterans. I went with 3 experts and that really took away a lot of the overwhelming feelings that arise when you have tons of carts coming by so many options.

3- Try try try to order with your stomach and not your eyes. With so many options, it is really easy to over order.

4- End with mango pudding. You won't be disappointed.

The main draw here is the free parking and the large space, so it's easy to grab a seat and have an efficient meal....  .

My favorite thing here are the two different types of fried shrimp balls. Crackin!  There's one with breading and another with like a tempura/noodle mix dough (not sure but good)... The Hai go amd shu mai are solid too.  Otherwise the choices are standard with the chicken feet, chow fun, spare ribs, etc.  They do have some mini portions of chinese food, the chinese broccoli to get ur veggies. Or u may wanna get ur fix of honey walnut prawns. Though my tiff is with the sticky rice in banana leaf, it's just not good... period.

This isn't my go to.  But in all, a good place for the ones that dont' like to wait and need easy free parking.

I never been here since the first day this place opened.  I was here because there was an event I attended.  All the food is cold, tasteless and oily.  Never again....

Uh. Can't stand coming here.  My wife's side of the family comes here for birthdays and things like that. I'm not sure why. Maybe they think it's one of the more aunthentic Chinese joints?  I can easily think of 5 places in ID that are hands down better than this place but I'm not Chinese so they never listen to me.

Anyway, the food is always the same: zero taste and beyond bland -it's just plain bad Chinese food. Don't ever get their jellyfish or squab or you're regret it. Even adding tons of pepper and soy sauce doesn't help.

When wanting good Chinese food avoid this restaurant like the plague and go somewhere else.  Trust me on this.

The food quality at this place has gotten very poor the last two times I visited it.  The shrimp dishes were the only ones worth eating.  Most of the other dishes didn't taste good or used poor food quality.  I used to love this place when it first opened but something changed in the last year or so.

The plus is that for large family gathering this place is great because you eat in a huge hall.  It is very clean and the service is ok (thus the one star).

This place use to be my "go to" dim sum places...the food quality seems to be getting worse every time I go there and the cart ladies are very aggressive with trying to sell old food...my turnip cake was cold and rubbery, the pork ribs were bland, the honey walnut prawn was mediocre...the parking was probably the best thing about the restaurant...

The other awful part of the last experience was the perverted looking cook who kept staring at my table through the door window...the entire time we were there..the guy was creepy looking :(

It's a pity that I have to give a star.

First of all, we are long time clients of this restaurant.  The quality of dim sum has degraded in the past couple of years.   The size of the steam-buns is getting smaller and smaller.  one buns we had today were barely 2" in diameter and 1" height!   Everything shrink in size, not the price.

I'm so glad that the manager was honest when he told me which foods contained MSG and which did not. It happen to be that 99% of the dim sum contained MSG. He said the resturant will cooked menu items and not add MSG which is very nice since the resturant wasnt slow or busy. I mean he could of said "nothing."

I had a few salty dim sum items in the bamboo containers. Ribs were good soft and not overly salty. Chow mein noodles a little undercooked. Shrimp inside green chile peppers were way too spicy for breakfast hours.
The leaffy greens were perfect: crispy, not too salty, and sauce is optional.
I did not stay for tofu desserts or the sesame ball. I wasn't craving these items.
I spent about $30 for a group of 3 people.

I wish that dim sum was served 24hrs. That's a stretch most likely but wouldn't that just be so awesome? Heck, I love dim sum and I rarely go because I always miss the time! I know what you're thinking, dim sum is served 10am-3pm so how in the world do you miss it?!?! Because girls and boys I am a night person, I work late nights and I get home pretty darn late so I sleep pretty darn late! :)

So with that said, it brings me to my review of this place. It was already evening and my then-bf and I were craving some dim sum so we did the whole search thing for a Chinese restaurant that is still serving dim sum and not going to charge us an arm and a leg for it. We ended up deciding on New Hong Kong mainly because we were already in the area.

Since it was late, there was probably only 2 small other parties in the restaurant which was nice because it was so peaceful. Our server lady was extremely nice and welcoming. We already knew what we wanted so we quickly ordered some items off the dim sum menu and also a plate of house chow mien crispy.

Again, it being kind of late and slow we got our food quickly and all piping hot! We got the bean curd wrap, fried shrimp salad, shu mui and some other stuff. Everything was delicious, especially the chow mien. The server checked on us a couple times asking how everything was and if there was anything we needed. We ended up having to box some of the food to go because we ordered just a wee bit too much ha ha.

Also, the parking was free and in a garage! The only complaint is if you have a lowered car, it sucks majorly getting in and out of there. Still, I would go back at least for the late dim sum.

Yum yum on the dim sum. Great service from some of the finest Chinese in the Pacific Northwest. They have really delicious chef specials and the venue is huge! Great for weddings and ceremonies. I've been to several weddings here and they've all been fantastic.

It's a little hard to find but it's located next to Viet Wah at the PACIFIC RIM CENTER. Get at it.

Meh, not my favorite for dim sum. The best draw of this place is the free parking in the garage.

Food wise, it's okay, but nothing memorable. Service wise...it's pretty poor. I've been here multiple times and it really depends on (i hate to say it) whether or not the majority of your  party speaks mandarin or cantonese. If you do, it's easy to get the servers attention, if it's not...you'll be waiting for your water, waiter, bill, etc.

Overall, nothing too memorable, but nothing overall horrible either.

One of the better dim sum places in Seattle.

It doesn't reach the heights of some of the others, but has a couple of factors weighing in its favor:
    - Parking!  Easy, free, on-site, indoors :)
    - Space - it's a large restaurant and as such the wait, when there is one is usual only a couple of minutes

These two things alone are enough for me to sacrifice a further couple of percent quality wise for the speed/convenience.

For me the measure of a dimsum place is the har gow or shrimp dumplings and on this front they don't disappoint, they are perfectly acceptable.  One addition which marks them out vs. a lot of other dim sum places is that they have yu chee gow or shark's fin dumplings, (no, it's not actually made with shark's fin), they are superb.  Xaio Long Bo are a miss sadly, too doughy.

All in all a good, if not great dim sum place, with enough pluses to make this my normal spot in Seattle.

This place is not my favorite place to satisfy my chow mein and Peking duck cravings. I only go here for two reasons:

    1) When my parents visit Seattle. They dread street parking, which is why they only go here for dinner. Yeah it's cool New Hong Kong has a free parking garage but sometimes I wish I can treat my parents to other restaurants (but that's a separate conversation).

    2) Group gatherings. New Hong Kong does have the space for larger groups. I have came here for numerous graduation dinners, family gatherings and most recently a wedding rehearsal dinner. One perk of hosting a large group of people here is that when making your reservation and orders ahead of time, ask them if you can bring your own liters of soda. This place definitely allows it for free.99, which is so much better than letting your dinner guests order their own drinks.

The food is alright for what it is. I eat what is ordered but like I said, I only come here when told to. I have tried dim sum here and it was alright as well. I just thought some of the dumplings were a little overcooked so they were on the chewy side. Oh and don't order the chicken feet here...they're not as flavorful as the other dim sum spots.

I didn't have high expectations for this place.  Honestly, I thought the biggest plus was that they have their own parking lot.   (Sad state of affairs that this is even a consideration, but whatevs.)

It's a huge place and there was nobody else in the entire restaurant when we were there.  Cantonese food that is chinese american-ish was the fare, and we ordered a ton of ordinary food.

It came out quickly, hot and with good sized portions.  Some were meh and some were tasty.  The food didn't taste re-heated and some of food wasn't overcooked, like you get sometimes when there is a big menu to choose from and some of it is pre-made.

The staff was quick to us and friendly.  To be honest, I felt a little bad that there wasn't more business in here.  It's not a place i would go out of my way to get to, but I'd come again every once in awhile.

Hot and sour soup is so good here. Saturday and sunday mornings things can get pretty crowded but  restaurant is huge so theres hardly ever a wait.

I'm still a dim sum newbie so I'm not yet sure what things are supposed to taste like, but New Hong Kong seemed like an a-ok destination!

The restaurant is big, so there are plenty of tables. Sadly this means that sometimes it might take quite a while to get some food. I think we ran out of food 2-3 times and had to wait a while for the cart to make it over to our table. Also, it was a little annoying that the cart lady sometimes tried to give us certain plates even though we said we didn't want them.

The food was over all pretty good and very filling. A few of the dumplings fell apart while I was trying to grab them, so that was a bit annoying. There was one salad(?) dish that was pretty gross. The Chinese broccoli was a-ok - not as great as the first time I tried it, not as horrible as the second time I tried it.

The soupy tofu dessert thing was... not as tasty as it looked. I was a bit sad.

A-ok dim sum choice, but I'll probably try the many other Seattle options before I go to New Hong Kong again.

(This is based off of utilizing a $20 gift certificate offered to me as a return gift from the owner, Jeremy, after he found out about my recent visit to the Rainier location)

I decided to try this location out for lunch takeout the other day. So onto the #7 bus I go from downtown. Hop off at Jackson and I-5 and walk up here. Right away, Jeremy was at front and greeted me. He's welcoming, cool and friendly and what I felt right away, despite the usual lunch crowd there. I had stuff in mind, while he also offered me suggestions AND ways to best take advantage of the full $20. I appreciated that but told him just "enough for lunch and not too much". So, instead of 2 dishes and an app, he mentioned a rice side to compliment my general tao's chicken, as well as my tofu salt & pepper app. He recommended the almond chicken from this kitchen because (since he seems pretty darn knowledgable about his chefs) it's better plus they're sliced and not chunks(?), like Rainier. Tempting, but wanted something different. I didn't know what my extra fork was for.

I got back to the office. Down the Tofu app. Opened general tao's chicken... does general tao's chicken taste like sweet and sour chicken? Ugh, I'm pretty sure the wrong dish was here... as a sweet and sour chicken, it was decent but way too saucy. As what I ordered, I don't think sweet and sour is General Tao's Chicken... the Tofu app was darn good, though with chopped garnished stuff and GARLIC! =D

    3.5 = food. 4 = service from Jeremy.

A UYE - Dim Sum here - thanks Keoni and the restaurant owner making this happen. There were I believe a little than 20 people coming to the event. We got taken care of the first round pretty well.

5 Stars to Parking! In International District, parking is always the problem. However, the building where New Hong Kong Restaurant is located has a good amount of parking.

4 Stars to Service! Staff was really friendly and nice. They greeted me and my friends with warmth and made sure we were able to find the rest of Yelpers. There were 20ish of us and they were able to bring the dishes in and out, fill water.

2.5 Stars to the food! There are good selections of Dim Sum. However, I can only say they are ok. Some of the seafood steamed dumplings might not be properly prepared. Therefore, the skin came up be broken (not sure if it's over-steamed). Chicken feet, somehow, I felt it was lack of flavor. A lot of the ingredients of the Dim Sum items are the same. Therefore, I ate pretty much the same things with different looks. Though, I have to give kudos to my favorite dish, beef meat balls. I gave beef balls 4 stars. As far as tea goes, it was just very blend tea. A lot of other Dim Sum places offer special tea with more flavors.

I've resigned myself to mediocre dim sum places, thanks to my parent's preference for only restaurants with parking lots in Chinatown. As my aging and lovable folks have become creatures of habit, and as their palates have become more and more restricted to Chinese food only when eating out, I had given up hope for variety and quality when eating out with them.

However, the New Hong Kong is changing that! With a parking garage, dim sum, and nearly a dedicated zip code of tables ensuring they never wait when we get there, this place meets their criteria for a new habit.

Now, I KNOW that there are more fabulous dim sum places around, and many other Yelpers may be ready with a list of suggestions for me to take them to. However, I implore you to understand that my parents will NOT be convinced, and they will NOT parallel park.

On to the review... The host or hostess is always friendly and accommodating, and the dim sum service is always quick (at times curt, though that's common anywhere), and any server has always taken our special requests. My brother loves the beef tendon, my dad and husband each get a serving of the spareribs, and other mainstays of our dim sum feast are the stuffed eggplant, rolled rice noodle, bean curd roll, and sometimes the fried taro, football, or a spring roll.

What is great about New Hong Kong is that each time we go they have such a variety of stuff out on the floor like Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce (usually we order from the kitchen), salt and pepper squid, pork ribs, sweet and sour fish, a glazed hot dog bun (I know, but we were curious), congee, and more importantly congee donuts, dumpling soup, and honey walnut prawns.

I know I can count on another decade or so of visits here (and only here, if with the folks) during their dim sum hours. At least (for now) I can't complain!

I love this place. They're hand-shaved noodles are off the chain. I asked the waiter what was good and he recommended the noodles, saying that they make them fresh in the back and i should try them out. Ok so i was skeptical at first, i mean, how good can they possibly be? Pretty good i would have to say. My friends werent too happy with their sweet and sour chicken though, apparently too over battered. Then again, this is sweet and sour chicken we're talking about!? Anybody who orders sweet and sour chicken is not allowed to express opinion regarding foods and might as well go to Mcdonald's, order a 20 piece, ask for excessive amounts of sweet and sour, slap on a pair of latex's, fill up a spray bottle with the S&S, and unload an awesomeness fury of sauce coating, with surgical precision of course.

Service was also excellent! But then again I speak Chinese. (sorry to the minorities who aren't Chinese "j/k")

Will I return? of course, I work next door

You can't be serious.  This place SHOULD NOT have a 3 star average.

Yes, yes, but the parking garage.  Parking alone does not make this restaurant 3 stars.

Previously, we were here for a graduation dinner, the same night where all the other Asian families were celebrating their graduates as well.  They took in more business than they could really handle -- our dinner ended up being 3 hours long with a 20 minute gap in between dishes because they couldn't get the dishes out fast enough.

Flash forward to our most recent dinner, the beef brisket was so tough it was like chewing gum.  The sweet and sour pork had more breading than pork.  The Chinese broccoli they served were so thick,  it was impossible to bite through -- it was like I was trying to bite through a tree trunk.

this is my go to place for group dim sum outings.  they have free parking, there's never a wait for a table, and it always comes out to be about $10-13 per person...it must be the cheapest dim sum place in Seattle.  The food quality is pretty decent too, though nothing is particularly outstanding...but they have all the typical dim sum staples.  My favorite dim sum place for the actual food quality is Harbor City, but you don't have the above benefits.  My biggest complaint about this place is how aggressive they are about throwing food on your table...you practically have to say "no" 2-3 times, otherwise they will just start putting random dim sum on your table that you didn't ask for!

Food- dim sum is yummy- but i've had better. The fried food isn't as warm as it should be sometimes even cold. I'd recomend coming earlier than 1.

Be careful where the seat you- if they can't see you- don't expect to be served as quick as others.

Because work is up the street and it has a parking lot- i'll be back.

Best thing about this place is parking garage. Imaging Sunday and you're too hungry to drive around for parking spot, this place is saving lives (no, not literally but you get the point). Great for groups but if you got 2-4 people, even faster for a table. Noon is crowded but wait time is not as long as Jade Garden.

Dim sum dishes are decent. I like their beef tripes most, thick and juicy.
This is out B-plan when Jade Garden is like I-5 on Monday morning

One of the few places in the city that serves dim sum all day long! Very affordable, nice portions, taste yummy! I usually come here for the dim sum and a side of fried rice. Typical dim sum selection...shrimp dumpling, fried dumpling, spareribs, etc. Love it all. The staff if very attentive and nice. This is a great place to bring a big group. While there are dim sum places that are comparable, and possibly cheaper. I gave this place 5 stars because there's never a wait to be seated, and they have an extensive menu aside from the dim sum menu.

i uses to love going to this place because the food was good and they have free parking, lately though the selection for dim sum has gotten fewer and fewer. the service? SUCKS. u really  have to flag waiters down and they tend to ignore people. so not sure we'll be coming back.

The ceilings are low so you feel a bit claustrophobic when eating and the lights are dimmed...weird. I came here for lunch and the food was so-so. The parking garage makes me feel like I'm in a cave, it's structured weird but plenty of free parking during the weekdays.

Fast service, fast food but nothing special. This wouldn't be a place where I would come back because I'm craving their dim sum. More for the convenience if anything.

I busted my "Yelp Event" cherry here this morning, and I would call this Diner Dim Sum. Drive smack into the garage, park like you were on rails, and take the elevator up, oops down, to the restaurant itself, whose dimensions are approximately "effing ginormous" by "Australian outback." I am pretty sure an Aborigine could get permanently lost without ever reaching manhood in this restaurant. Hopefully someone at the Reflexology Center across the way could coax him back on the path.

But I digress. I think I arrived too late for the chicken feet, alas, but we did relieve them of some pork ribs, chow mein, many and varied shrimp dumplings, honey almond shrimp (which I coveted but the lazy Susan was especially lazy, or the shrimp too appealing for the stars to align); barbecue pork buns, and--bonus! What appeared to be Oscar Meyer franks in sweetened buns. Who knew?

I thought the tastes were quite good in many of these, but the grease factor was very high. So high that not only did I falter many times helming my chopsticks (normally I'm somewhat adroit), but even just holding the chopsticks IN MY HAND proved complicated, because the chopsticks seemed to conduct the grease every which way; it may have just been me...but maybe not.

Given the excellent company and my hunger level (as the Spanish say, "There's no such thing as stale bread when you're hungry) I found this totally fulfilling in a very greasy-spoon way; satiating and approachable and salty. It has what I'd call broad appeal for the American palate: sweet and salty pretty much across the board. Not delicate, not subtle, but, like a good diner breakfast, substantial, filling and DAMN CHEAP.

We ate as if there were a paycheck involved...or at least, I did. I ate like I was being graded on how much food I could pack under however-many foot-pounds of pressure...and was richly rewarded with a TEN DOLLAR check which I think included tip (but I threw an extra couple of bucks in...that price seemed wrong, as if children somewhere were losing fingers in industrial equipment because of my opportunism).

I would definitely go back, but that's not to say this is fantastic dim sum. It's just fantastic under the right conditions, and that's a great thing, too.

My roommate and I love dim sum and are always searching for new and good place to try.  I'd always seen New Kowloon but because of its odd location I never ventured up there to give it a try.  After reading yelp reviews I decided to give it a try, plus the fact parking was free made it all that more inviting for me.

We arrived a little after 11:00 am and were seated right away; right next to the kitchen, we were excited this meant we got first dibs on the carts as they came strolling out.  WRONG!  SO SO WRONG!   We soon discovered at New Kowloon you need to be AGGRESSIVE in getting your dim sum on.  But once we figured that out and got to sample some of their dim sum all was good in the land of Mitzie H.

We ate and ate and ate to our hearts content and left full and very happy.  Move over Jade Garden I do believe New Kowloon is now my new favorite dim sum in the ID.  Their shrimp/scallop steamed dim sum thingies were my favorite dish of the day and the first time I'd ever had them anywhere.  In discussing the experience with the roommate we both decided this was by far the freshest tasting dim sum we've tried in town, everything was fresh and flavorful and we can't wait to go back.

Free parking in what is clearly a DIY parking ramp.  That's nice.  Now I know what a parking ramp after being shelled looks like.

Huge place with lots of massive tables.  Half of them were empty.  Hmm, you say?  Me too.

Lots of shoveling of food onto the table.  You don't order here, you semi-consent to having food forced on you.  "Oh!  You weren't looking!  You eat!  Too late!  No take back!"

Yeah okay.  Let us treasure this time together, cart pilot.  You are likely never to see me again.

Their dimsum is alright.  It was thoroughly average.  If you order your favorites here, you might second guess if you ever liked them.

Take people you don't like here so that you won't run into them at the place you take people that you actually do enjoy for dimsum.

Oh wait.  I can think of something nice to say.  The beef chow fun was the least greasy that I've ever tasted.

So yes.  Come here for beef chow fun.  To go.

We've been going here on many occasions, dim sum, dinners, lunches.  Their food's been ok so far, however I haven't have dinner here for a while, just Dim sum, and for the most part they still tastes fine, not a lot of selections but they tastes just fine.  Last Sunday I came here to have dinner, I had the imperial pork, the crispy duck, and some prawns, the duck was very good, the prawn was ok, But The PORK, OMG the PORK, I was SOOOOO SWEET! Like it was deep in caramel, omg we couldn't even eat it that's why star subtraction, plus my water glass was empty and was not refill, even after we paid, they came over to ask if we need anything to go, my water glass was still empty, no one refill it, oh well.  I don't think I will come back here for dinner anymore, maybe just Dim Sum....

New Kowloon or just renamed "New" Hong Kong??

What's new? Let's review.... Same interior, same dishes, same "music" playing overhead, same dude that ran the front end before, same....well you get the idea.

Came here for Dim Sum, this past Sunday, knowing better, it was after the Dim Sum rush, we should have headed over to Rainier Ave for BBQ. Oh well, live and learn...

Steam cart was okay, not much selection, I mean really how many times do I have to say no to chicken feet....ugh.... Peppered Calamari should have remained in the kitchen, it was cold, tired, and rubbery.

Knowing about the timing is the big factor, can't say much about the selection of dishes, since it was after the rush and things were being cleaned up.

Service has improved, that's a plus.  Plenty of free parking, that alone is worth 3 stars!

Dim Sum!  We go here nearly every Sunday about noon (prime time for Dim Sum!).   Like the reviewer before me, we have encountered times where we are seated in a back corner where we are forgotten, but that has only happened about once or twice.  Usually you can expect the dim sum to come rolling in on carts at a regular pace.  It is inexpensive, and there is FREE PARKING.  Yes you heard it right, free parking in Seattle!

Food List:  Spring Rolls, Tofu, Congee, Shu Mai, Shrimp Balls, Steamed Dumplings,  Lotus Leaf Sticky Rice, Pot Stickers, Barbeques Pork Buns,  Ribs, various vegetable dishes, Chicken Feet, buns/rolls, desserts, and more... They even have a regular menu is you want.
