This place is legit and I want everyone in Toledo to know about it! People should be lining up out the door for their dim sum. Way back in the day, there used to be a restaurant in Toledo called New Bamboo and that had the best dim sum Toledo had to offer. Sadly, the restaurant shut down quite a while ago and the family moved away to Cincinnati. Until New Empire opened, the city was deprived of my favorite meal on earth. But now it's here and y'all should take advantage!

Must-haves:
- Ho-fun with seafood (huge chunks of seafood with a light white sauce, not slobbered in soy sauce like most ho-fun dishes)
- Turnip cake (best I've had in a long time!)
- Garlic ribs
- Pork bun (both steamed and baked - huge pieces of bbq pork!)
- Egg custard tart (nice flakey crust)

My patronage of this restaurant stretches over a decade of fine service, reasonable cost, Delicious food.  I rarely dip into the Dim Sum menu and cannot comment upon that in an informed way other than to note the variety and selection available appears to be extensive.

Other location on Navarre Road in Oregon needs updating - but the food is equally good

I've gone to New Empire twice for dim sum... we were told that it's the only place in Toledo to get real Chinese food.  My thoughts?  Meh...  I've had much better, for much cheaper... haha, it's called Chinatown, folks!

No, but really, the food's not bad.  It's palatable, it's filling.  Just not anything to write home about.  And I guess in an area where Magic Wok and the token Asian buffet reign king, New Empire really is the best and most authentic there is!

My first dining experience in Toledo? Dim sum at New Empire.
My welcoming gift? Hours of vomiting and nausea afterwards.

Seriously, if anyone needs to kick a weekend dim sum addiction, just imagine that all of the wonderfully looking small plates looking like beef stew and tasting like putrid eggs. Trust me, it will when you are regurgitating your food the way I was.

Bummer considering it's the only dim sum place in Toledo (and it was quite delicious too!), but I don't think I'll be enjoying their bo lo baos and hargows anytime soon. The culprit was one of the following: the stuffed tofu, bo lo baos (or Mexican buns on the menu -- no idea why it's called that), hargows, steamed shrimp rolls, steamed lotus buns, jiao yen tian ji (salt & pepper frog legs), and the niu nan bao (hot pot beef brisket.)

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the South Toledo/Holland/Maumee area.  It's conveniently located in Spring Meadows Shopping Center & there's ample parking.  Going inside, you may think that it's fancy...but it's not & the prices aren't either.

The waitstaff is helpful & friendly & always willing to answer questions.  Their menu is extensive & has a great variety.  My husband's favorite dish is the crispy beef, which comes with white rice.  The portions are substantial & we always have some to take home.  I personally like their house fried rice-chicken, shrimp & pork mixed with rice, peas, carrots & egg.

They also have combo dinners which include a smaller size entree, egg roll and a chicken wing.

This might be the only Dim sum restaurant I know of in Toledo, I've only seen it  here on Sunday though.  But come visit owners/sisters Kim and Michelle as they take care of you with Traditional Chinese food.

If fresh seafood is what you want, they are available for you to pick and have cooked at market price in the main dining room.  The service here is great, they have a bar, nice restaurant.

And if you are on a budget for lunch, its amazing what they will give you for under 5 bucks.
