Review from Jacqueline D.

The chicken vermicelli noodle soup wasn't what I expected; it was yummy! I thought it'd only be chicken and rice noodles, but it had onions, celery, carrots, and bean sprouts. They separated the soup from the noodles, so I had two separate containers, which I appreciate. I don't like my noodles all soggy and having soaked up all the soup. I placed my order online and asked for hot sauce as well. I actually got it! The other places I request it, but they never include it with my order.
I'm a fan of hot & sour soup of all sorts. They didn't let me down! Peppery taste, not too much vinegar. It also had a good amount of tofu, bamboo shoots, etc.
I work a block and two streets over from the White House. The cops had apparently blocked off my street. The delivery guy ended up parking at the monument and walked my order over to my work. I had tipped over 20%, but I felt bad when I found out he walked my order over. -

Wanted some soup, so being only place open at the very moment on sunday night I
ordered here. I had very low expectation on them but... turns out the soup was very good. I ordered the vermicelli noodle soup... If they would just add some cilantro and lemon on side for it, it would have been so much better... But still I was happy... Definitely going back. -

My favorite Chinese takeout place, always great for lunch. Best price to quality ratio you'll find in town. Delicious Kung pao chicken. Had good vegetarian options too: tofu and egg plant dishes also quite tasty.

Seriously the best Chinese and southeast Asian food!! All my southeast Asian friends approved its authenticity! Good to eat in or take out... My favorite is the noodle soup here, the Singaporean style. The soup base is perfect. Their fried chicken is really good too. Yum

This place is a sleeper for Malaysian and SE Asian food! Their curry laksa is great! The staff were very cordial, which is a pleasant surprise for most Chinese-style places. But like I said, try ordering the non-typical AmerChinese dishes, or even just ask them for their Malaysian dishes, and you won't be disappointed!

Cheap but delicious. Doesn't pretend to be anything it's not. Busy at lunchtime, but can find some good specials on the menu. Look for the student special (free soup or soda) if you're a student.
Pricing can be a bit funny-- I've ordered the same thing on different occasions and been charged difference prices so be careful.
Online ordering-- didn't work for me the time I tried it. I would suggest calling in orders or calling to confirm if you do use their online ordering system. -

I've been to New Dynasty twice, mainly because my coworker loves it. The first time I had chicken lo mien. It was too greasy, and there wasn't enough other stuff. It was mainly just noodles with a couple pieces of chicken or veggies here and there. Also, the portion was way too huge! (This might be good for some people, but I ate half, took the rest back to the office, and then ended up throwing it out because the thought of eating it again made me feel kind of icky inside. I hate wasting food.)
The second time I got moo goo gai pan, which is my favorite Chinese dish. Huge problem: They used canned mushrooms. CANNED MUSHROOMS! Gross. So I didn't eat the mushrooms, which is the main reason I like moo goo gai pan. Very disappointing.
I gave the place two stars and not one because the people are friendly enough, it's really cheap, and it's not like I got sick from anything. Still, please consider the second star generous and just go to City Lights of China instead. -

Ordered fried rice that did not taste like anything and got a sezchuan chicken that was zoggy and not spicy. The beef on a stick was dry, but tasty. That is why it gets 1 star. Their soy sauce does not taste like anything. I still havent found good chinese food in DC.

Great take out Chinese food. There are available Livingsocial and Groupon instant vouchers that make it an even better deal. The Kung Pow Chicken is all chicken and peanuts, none of that filler you get at other places. It's a little spicy, not as much as I would like, but better than most. The service is fast and the owner is friendly and efficient. The interior is much more spacious and cleaner than I would have guessed for a basement restaurant on P street. Probably my new top contender for take out Chinese in the area.

Good local Chinese take-out place. Haven't tried the delivery service yet. First Chinese place I've ordered from that gives an option to order all white meat chicken, which was nice. The chicken and eggplant is probably one of my favorites.

My favorite Chinese Takeout and Delivery place. It's priced right and the delivery doesn't take forever. The surprise here is how good the Thai food is on the menu. I order the PAD Thai regularly.

No complaints about this place. Its a bargain compared to the two to three block span of P st. For less than $10 you get two helpings of rice and a main dish.
I went witht the General Tso's chicken it was not bad. Semi-cryspy, not too tangy.
Bang for the buck I would go here instead of Mei Wah, which is about 2-3 blocks away. -

I tried out this restaurant for the first time and was very happy with the food and service. The chicken with black bean sauce was very good and the fried rice that came with it was super good. The person who took the order was very nice. They have some thai and indonesian flare in their menu. Recommend it.

New Dynasty is exactly what take-out chinese should be, and what quick dine-in should be. Fresh & crisp vegetables, tasty sauces, quick & friendly service. We're hooked!

I am reviewing this place as a takeout Chinese place (although they do have a decent amount of seating). I am not making claims of 'authenticity' or even comparing it against places in Chinatown or semi-specialized places like Great Wall-Szechuan. As a Chinese take-out place though, I definitely think it's worth 5 stars.
Like Iain, I have eaten here for 6+ years, but only for lunch. I might take off a star if I were eating here for dinner given that prices do jump a bit. However, for lunch, I am rarely disappointed. My two favorite dishes are General Tso's tofu and Chicken and Eggplant. What I really appreciate about New Dynasty is that their meat is of a high enough quality that it doesn't freak me out. There is nothing worse to me than gristly, fatty, weirdly dry, or otherwise 'strange' meat. Granted, I am not saying that you'll be getting high-quality steak, just that you won't have to cringe at your meat.
The service is always efficient and friendly, and they are willing to accommodate special needs (fyi their food does use MSG but they are happy to make anything without it if you ask).
I would also suggest going outside of the normal menu for some of the options like Singapore Noodles, etc. A little more expensive, but very good! I also love their egg drop soup, which is actually called Minced Chicken soup (it has chicken and corn and egg).
If you're in the area and need a good Chinese food fix (or in their delivery area, which from their website looks fairly large), I think it's worth a try!Listed in: Lunch Spots in Dupont Circle

I'm a huge fan of New Dynasty, they have the best Kung Pao Chicken (get it well done, I invented that!). I've been eating here for 7+ years. It's a favorite around the office and is just a few blocks from center of Dupont Circle.
It's a small place and can be packed to the gills with dine-ins and take out if you hit them at the wrong time.
Keep in mind, after 3PM their "dinner prices" are in effect. I ate too late one afternoon and I only had exact change for the lunch price but since I was a regular they let me go. :p
They don't really have waiter service. They will bring your order to your table, but that's it.Listed in: Dupont Delectables

I got into my hotel late, so there very few options, but I thought I'd check this place out. First of all, they plaster the top 100 Chinese restaurants thing everywhere. Is it the top 100? I don't know. I think you could make that claim about a lot of things. To me, given its stature and location, I think it's definitely up there.
From the outside, you'd expect a lot less, but the quality of the food is not bad. The rice is good. And their soups are tasty. I had the hunan beef. Not too spicy, but the broccoli was too big. I also had the cheese wontons, thinking they were gonna be like crab rangoons minus the crab. This was actually more like wontons filled with mozzarella cheese. But it was not all that terrible, just... different.
I'll probably go back at some point to try out some other dish. An interesting fact that nobody mentioned... they also serve thai food like pad thai. Haven't tried it yet, but I might in the future. -

And now for the super secret formula for excellent Chinese take-out: Above average taste + cooked to order + large portions + close proximity + cheap = perfect. New Dynasty (their real name) aces this culinary exam. Why only four stars? Because that's a perfect score for this kind of place -- it's like your favorite dive bar, no one wants it to be a perfect 10 (or 5), just perfect for them.
Food tastes good to better than good (excellent General Tso's and fried spring rolls). Everything is cooked to order. If you live close enough you can leave your abode almost immediately after placing your order by phone and it will be ready for pick up when you get there. Prices are outstanding -- almost every entree is between $5.95 and $7.50 if you order takeout/eat in. Portions are huge, taking up an entire 3 section styrofoam container--this can mean dinner AND lunch for $7. If you live within 5 or so blocks, there is no reason for this place not to be a regular stop.
And now for my favorite New Dynasty story:
(Over phone)
"May I have your phone number?"
"Sure, 9..."
"5?"
"No, 9"
"5?"
"No... 9"
"5?"
"No, 9 the one after ei...."
"Hang on a second" (New voice) "Hi, sorry, can you say your number again?"
"Yeah, no problem, 9..."
(said away from phone) "Ohh, he was saying 9, not 5..."
Tumultuous laughter ensues...
I love you New Dynasty! -

This is definitely one of the best chinese takeout places I've tried in DC. It's cheap and quick for lunch and you get a lot of food!
I had the Kung Pao chicken combo (rice, hot and sour soup and spring roll included) for under $10.
The chicken and the soup was especially delicious, but I wasn't a huge fan of the spring roll.
Will definitely return! -

Uh....I am going to have to disagree with the first starlit review. Indeed, I am thankful that there is a Chinese joint on P St. Believe me, I've spent many evenings ordering take out from here for dinner. It's fairly cheap, fast and hits that empty stomach fast.....But if this is as good as it gets, then I've just fallen into the worst free wonton soup I've ever slurped.
Desperately Seeking Chinese: If anyone knows of a good Chinese place that doesn't use MSG in or around the Dupont area, please let me know. -

I'm just glad there's Chinese food that's edible around here.
I ordered to-go and the food came relatively fast, within 30 minutes. I got the General Tso's chicken and the vegetable lo mein. I would recommend the noodles as the chicken was HEAVILY breaded. -

I hate to be a naysayer, and maybe I'm missing something, but... I've had far, FAR better Chinese food out in the MD and even VA burbs than at New Dynasty. Owing to the four-star ratings, I gave them three tries and I don't think I'll be going back for a fourth.
Pros: Convenient, fast, relatively inexpensive, and takes credit cards. Service is moderately friendly. The fried wontons are pretty delicious!
Cons: They're missing a lot of my favorite ubiquitous dishes. Everything I HAVE ordered has been doused in a syrupy sweet sauce with barely a hint of tang or spice. Quality of meat has been meh.
When I'm at work and the craving for Chinese strikes, I often find myself tempted by New Dynasty..But I have yet to walk out feeling like that craving has been properly satisfied. -

Cheap, good Chinese food at its best. I was in Washington for a semester and would eat here with my friends at least twice a week. It was great for students on a college budget!
My favorites are chicken with eggplants, chicken fried rice, and sesame chicken. If you're a student (show a Student ID), you can get a free coke or soup with your dinner entrée. I'm not sure if this deal is still in place.
The owner is also pretty amazing. He's an ethnic Chinese born in Pakistan, and speaks at least three different languages. My friends and I always joked that he has the perfect skill set to work for the CIA.
The restaurant is a little small and not really a place to take your family (i.e. there's no service). However, it's a great place for take out and a fast food like experience (but with amazing Chinese food). -

I'm going to have to agree with the rest of the reviews here: this place is awesome.
While I haven't eaten a great deal of Chinese food in DC, this place really tops the list of what I have tried. Let's face it: most Chinese restaurants taste exactly the same. Achingly the same. Basically, the taste can get incredibly boring.
Not so at House of Dynasty Express. I had orange flavored chicken, one of my favorites. The sauce was good, but what really made the difference was the chicken. I got a lot more white meet than you'd expect from a Chinese restaurant, and the way that it was fried made it absolutely succulent.
The ambiance is lacking, even for a Chinese place, but the people who work at Dynasty are really nice. I do wish they offered beer, but I guess you can't have everything. -
Review from Cadence R.
Washington, DC
I really enjoyed the food here mostly because there was a lot of it. Looking for a meal that is cheap and plentiful? This place should probably be on your list. I got the chicken lo mein and it was as if it never ended. I kept eating just to get to the bottom of the plate. To top it off it was only 6 or 7 bucks!
The chicken was a bit rubbery, but that didn't totally throw off the overall taste and the plates I saw others getting looked pretty good. Not the best Chinese I've ever had, but it was a great find because it's proving difficult to find Chinese I like (inexpensive) in the DC area.
Check it out if you're in Dupont looking for a quick bite! -

*THIS IS A TAKE OUT PLACE*
You can eat here if you'd like. There's tables. But why do that when Dupont Circle is two blocks away? Seriously.
So cheap so good. Go for lunch, very filling for $5.95. It's Americanized, but even for Americanized Chinese, it's light on MSG and full on flavor. I had the General Tso's chicken which is pretty much impossible to mess up, but they did a real bang up job of making it shine. Best part of all? It's literally a two block walk from Dupont Circle. Go grab a lunch and enjoy the weather in Dupont. You won't regret it. -

Well we headed here for a quick dinner & were pleasantly surprised that it actually is pretty good Chinese food and we all managed to eat for about $6 a person.
Biggest plus - the guy who works there is really nice and he let us know about this special deal, if you have a school ID you get one free soda or soup with each entree.
And everyone else is right: the food comes in huge portions & is ready super fast. -
Review from Lauren C.
Cheap, fast and decent. Standard takeout Chinese, but definitely a good lunch deal. I've eaten a lot of egg rolls from this place. They're heavy on cabbage and have a smidge of mushroom (for the veggie rolls) shrimp (for the spring rolls).
Bonus points for being an entirely convenient location for me. -

Very good value for decent chinese food.
you just need to know what to order :) being chinese i'm glad to find a cheap take-out place around the corner that offers good food at cheap prices. my personal fav: sacha chicken, spicy (brocooli beef/chicken, spicy is quite good too)
don't come here to expect SPECTACULAR chinese cuisine. it's just a home away from home resto for me (and one i've become a regular of) -
Review from Jacqui B.
Washington, DC
I'm not sure if it used to be called House of Dynasty, but I know it as New Dynasty based on the sign in front, and the name on the take out menu.
I got dinner from there for the first time last night. I got my food very fast, and it was pretty good. The vegetable fried rice I got came in a surprisingly large portion, filling an entire 3 section stryrofoam take out container. The vegetable crispy spring rolls were excellent. This is saying a lot considering I don't particularly care for Chinese food in general.
I went back again tonight after regretting not getting the sweet and sour chicken. Let's just say I am not one to keep myself from what I want, and tonight I wanted the chicken. It was just as tasty as I could have hoped, and even better because as off tonight, if you order any entree, they will give you something free. Tonight it was dumpling soup.
They're doing this because they claim to have been voted one of the 100 top Chinese restaurants in the country.
I haven't been to enough Chinese restaurants to know if they're one of the best in the country, but I think they're pretty great. -

Convenient location and damn quick. Quick to the point where I don't call in my order anymore and just wait a few minutes to grab it fresh. Go with the szechuan chicken. Cheap and they hook up a free drink if you have a student ID.

Visiting DC , and stopped by after reading the reviews on here.I was quite disappointed. Nothing special as far as the meal. The portions size
were quite small . Lots of rice but not a lot of actual food. Yes it was cheap

News Flash: There is no acceptable Chinese food in DC
So I stumbled upon New Dynasty on Grub Hub (I have a real problem with having to actually speak with someone on the phone when I can just order online). They were fine. Our relationship flourished. Until tonight. Off comes the lid to my Hot and Sour Soup and what do I see? WHO THE HELL KNOWS. All I know is that it looked like a mangled rabbit kidney or some kind of purple frozen mouse that you feed to your pet snake floating on the top. VOMIT. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT tempt fate. You never know if there could be an owl pellet in your Kung Pao. -

New Dynasty fills the void in Dupont of a neighborhood, hole in the wall chinese joint which can feed you well for very little money. The food is your average american chinese cuisine and it's good for take out only. The general tso's and mongolian beef are both solid options. They have seats, but the basement food-court atmostphere does not create a pleasant eating ambience. The staff are extremely friendly, and have even bestowed a New Dynasty VIP card upon me which makes me feel extremely guilty for only giving the place three stars. Solid american chinese food, and the cheapest you will find within a mile radius, but nothing special or unique on the menu that I have found. But don't get me wrong, I still go here quite often due to the convenience and value.

This is my FAVORITE lunch spot. I have formed a serious addiction to the Kung Pao chicken and shrimp with broccoli at New Dynasty. I have been coming here for almost 5 years and they are always consistenly good. I think the food is better here than Meiwah and less expensive. The gentleman at the counter is super nice and always has a kind word. I just love this place.

Ooooeeehhh. I walked by this place many times and one day decided to try the sweet-n-sour chicken on a whim. Wow it tasted fabulous but the feeling I had after the fact was not...very....appealing. I forgot about the aftermath weeks later and ordered the same dish delivered...and yeah, needless to say it had the same effect on my poor insides. Tastes great but only if you have a stomach of steel. You don't have to wait long at all for carry out or dine-in, they have record speed in the kitchen.

One of my favorite places to get Chinese food off the red line. Its cheap, especially if you include the free soup or drink that you can get if you are a student. Bad thing is their food has msg, atleast the soup does as I was told. There best is combination fried rice with a free soup, comes out to 6 dollars even. Worst is pad thai noodles (awful). Don't know why I got thai at a Chinese restaurant, but I did. Don't try it.
