Ripon, CA
I have eaten here several times and I have yet to be disappointed with their food and service.
This is a family owned restaurant on the main street of Ripon. It's a medium size restaurant with all the cool decor you would see in a legitimate Chinese restaurant. When I walked in, I felt like I was walking into down town China.
They have plenty to offer on the menu and their prices are cheap for the amount of food you get. I think their fried rice (chicken and pork) is one of the best I have ever eaten. Very tasty and fresh! I like chow mein, but I dont like all the sprouts and cabbage that typically come loaded in the chow mein. You can custom order chow mein from this place without the sprouts and cabbage, which is a plus for me!
I ordered sweet and sour pork, chow mein and pork fried rice all for $6. I dont think that's bad considering all the food I got and the quality of it.
If you are in Ripon and craving some Chinese food, I definitely recommend this place! -

I've been to New China a couple of times. When we sat down we were given a cabbage type salad, it was OK, kinda boring. I ordered the Won Ton Soup, BBQ Pork Fried Rice, Chow Mein, Lemon Chicken and Deep Fried Shrimp.
The reason I rate it 3 stars is because they use way to much cabbage in their food. The Won Ton soup should have bok choy, instead they use cabbage. The Chow Mein does not taste authentic and again, to much cabbage. Not to mention the "cabbage" salad. Sense a theme here? Cabbage, cabbage and more cabbage.
I did enjoy their Deep Fried Shrimp and Lemon Chicken. It was hot, crispy and not greasy at all. The lemon sauce was also served very hot (temperature hot).
The owners are exceptionally nice and very attentive. If I could rate it 3 1/2 I would. But I couldn't rate higher due to so much cabbage in the food.
I'll go back and just have them omit, you guessed it ... cabbage. -

Okay, so I really have a hard time giving this place less than 5 stars because the family that owns the place are soooooo friendly. We used to eat here for weekday lunch on a weekly basis. The lunch menu prices are great but the food is just mediocre. I typically judge a chinese restaurant by there fried rice and chow mein. Unfortunatley New China Restaurant does not do a great job at either. The chow mein uses those dried chow mein noodles mixed with cabbage and bean sprouts (no wonder thay can bring it out so fast). It is watery and bland. The fried rice has way too many peas and carrots and not enough meat or egg and is very soft and hardly fried.
I would recommend this place if you are craving chinese and don't want to leave Ripon, but I would hope there would be a better place in Manteca or Modesto.Listed in: My Ripon hang outs

My family has been getting take-out from New China since I was in elementary school. awesome family owned restaurant that is good for lunch or dinner. Really is as good as it gets in Ripon for Chinese food. Lunch specials are huge, worthy of a take home box and a good value. So many dishes are good that I can't even name them all. All your traditional favorites can be found on the menu. Whether you get take-out or eat in you are guaranteed to get a good Chinese food meal at New China. I forgot to mention that I love their pork fried rice and their chicken chow mein. A meal at New China isn't the same without those dishes to me. To each yelper their own! Also if you don't like the crunchy chow mein noodles when you get take-out they use the softer noodles so maybe you could ask for those in the restaurant.

Eh - I am not a huge fan of New China. I have a hard time enjoying Chinese food when the Chow Mein awful! It is not even like chow mein. I wish it was better because they do have the best fried green beans, but that is literally the only food I will rave about from there. The rest of the menu is just ok, the prices are not bad, but the food is not that good...so...you decide.
