They have authentic (and less than) dishes. I must have dined here on over fifteen occasions. I like the duck, crab claws and legs, clams, squid and fish (mackerel, to be exact). Everything else is a blur. I tend to steer away from orange chicken, broccoli beef and egg roll crap. It's too typical.
My father-in-law always suggests coming here. And he's from China and is the head chef at a Chinese restaurant in Chicago. So, we know this place is good. -

actually, considering the current landscape of the complete lack of decent asian buffet in the west suburbs this one by any comparison is the best around - you can always find something to eat, just dont be an indiana Johns, u know the one who jumps into the unknown depths of the culinary adventures. Be safe ! And you will enjoy it !

Review from Willy W.
Downers Grove, IL
I once thought this was my favorite buffet place..
I still remember the long lines it used to have during the weekends!!
What in the world happened to this place?!
It used to be such great food!!
All the food had seriously gone DOWNHILL! (except the crab ragoons- that's the reason I'm giving place 2 stars..or else I"ll be giving it 1 star)
But Crab Ragoons never fail. They've always tasted delicioso. & I guess I"ll have to find another place that has good crab ragoons, caz I"m not paying $10.50 to only eat their crab ragoons
Omgsh, you seriously gotta be kidding about the sushi. It's not even 'real' sushi. Do you know what they put in their so- called 'sushi'? They put carrots, cucumbers..that's it....Not kidding...Well, let's say that's what they put in them that day when I went.
I think I would totally pay a little bit more to go to Royal Buffet. -

My husband and I went here for dinner before grocery shopping one weekday evening. It's like $10.50 for adults. The selection is huge. But the quality/taste of the food is spotty. Some of the offerings were very good (I think the mongonlian beef and the green beans were really good). Some were not.
Initially I was impressed when I checked out the buffet because they had some adventurous selections, and I'm generally an adventurous eater. I need to remind myself that an all-you-cat-eat-$10.50 buffet is NOT the place to be adventurous.
Don't try the stir-fry with the octopus and don't try any of the calamari. Just don't. I don't care how much you like octopus. Because I love it. LOVE it. But stick to ordering it from restaurants with much higher quality food. I mean ... duh. I should I thought of that BEFORE I tried it. (I didn't get sick on it or anything like that ... it's just that if you're going to eat something like octopus, do it RIGHT. Go to a nice place that will get high quality octopus and grill it right, or go to a reputable sushi place for it). As for the calamari, the two options were grilled (way over done and tough) or fried (tasted like a french fry). They also had some kind of stuffed chicken shrimp ... it was disgusting.
However, they did have some kind of sauteed seafood mix that was decent. Like I wrote above, the selection of food is spotty. -
Review from Samra M.
Shrimp: GOOD
Sesame Balls: GOOOOD
Sweet and Sour Chicken: GOOD
Superman Ice Cream: THE BEST (My fave)
Now for real... All of the above is true. I feel like the design of the place could be spread out more, because everyone bumps into each other in this place.
It's pretty good, better than other buffets I've had in the past.
My friends and I went here to celebrate our friend's graduation and overall the experience was good. As all buffets are you go up there until you're full... I fail at this and eat one plate then a little bit of fruit and head straight for the ice cream. I don't do well at buffets but this place makes me wanna eat, but I just simply cannot. -

This place was awful.
I went there on a sunday with two friends. It was very crowded which we thought was good (Fresh food). Our "Host" told us to sit at a booth, after seating ourselves we found that someone else was already sitting there. No big deal though.
The food was disgusting. The selection was huge, and it looked good. But it was all luke-warm and gross. I tried almost everything. One of the chicken dishes had gritty pieces of God knows what in there. The egg roll was cold, soggy and nearly made me sick. The only thing i could eat that was decent was the peel and eat shrimp and the crab rangoon. Even the fruit wasn't ripe, or too ripe, or had something wrong with it. The food didn't even come close to resembling chinese food. The sushi looked nasty, the "smoothie bar" was a bunch slushies packed into an discolored ice tray. Gross.
When we went to get ice cream after eating half of a plate we saw there was a used brown paper towel in one of the containers. Appetizing! So we scratched that idea.
The bathroom was gross and looked like it belonged in a subway station. There was grafitti all over the walls which no one bothered to clean up.
Honestly, I'm usually very generous with my reviews, but this place was just awful. I'd rather pay to eat at mcdonalds than eat for free at this dump. -

The oranges were fresh and fantastic! The rest of the food was bland and awful. I typically do expect much from any Chinese buffet, but this place is the worst I have had. Now off to see if I can eat $10 worth in oranges!! :-) Also the Pepsi was watered down and flavorless.

This. Place. Was. Horrid.
This was easily the WORST Chinese food I've ever had. Heck, it might have been some of the most disappointing food I've ever had, period.
The selection is very large. The drinks are self-serve. There is a bar of fruit and desserts, and several of "mixed bag" stuff that did not seem to be organized in any particular fashion.
Some of the things looked very appetizing but when tasted were bland, or greasy, or just plain odd.
Some of the things looked too nasty to try (like the oddly preserved, clearly previously frozen pizza). The sushi scared me. The calamari was completely inedible. In-ed-i-ble. Fried to a rubbery crisp.
The "steam buns" had no meat in them. They were stuck to the lettuce underneath them. They were just...bun.
The almond cookies were probably the single thing that I really enjoyed; even the fortune cookie was the worst I've ever had. The fortune cookie tasted like soy flour, not egg whites, and was rubbery, not crisp.
Come on, New China. Switch to a different brand of fortune cookie, at least.
Bleh. Save your money and try a different place. Please. -

I agree with another poster. New China Buffet has gone down in quality over the last couple of years. The once packed buffet now has plenty of empty tables. It's still an OK deal but there is at least one much better around the area (Osaka Grill in Bolingbrook). One tip I would offer to the New China Buffet - please run the salt and pepper shakers through the dishwasher more often. Nothing more gross than touching sticky shakers, especially while you are eating food with your fingers.

You can thank/blame my friends for getting me hooked on the whole ethnic buffet thing. And New China Buffet is where it all started. Yes, I know there is something wrong about the concept of all-you-can-eat gluttony, but if done right, sometimes you gotta swallow your principles like you swallow your food- well prepared, nicely seasoned, and reasonably priced.
New China Buffet is not the largest ethnic buffet I've been to, in terms of size or selection. There is nothing adventurous offered here, and chances are you've already tried most of the food in one form or another at other Asian places or even American places. Overall this is a low-cost, low-(taste)risk place to eat.
The beef offerings in particular are well seasoned in pepper, and this seems the case no matter what you pick to eat. Beef and broccoli- hope you like pepper. Korean BBQ, nicely marinated with juice, and pepper. Mongolian Beef with pepper, over pepper. You get my point. However the chicken offerings, despite their similar appearances, do have their distinct tastes. For some zing, try the General Tso's chicken.
The seafood selections are a different story. On any given visit expect two fillets of fish waiting for you on the serving line. Of the many times I have eaten here, I've only been disappointed once by the fish selection, and that was partly my party's fault for showing up too close to closing time. The salmon is pretty good, as is the whitefish. It is unfortunate that sometimes the type of fish is not labeled or mislabeled. It is pretty common for us to sit around the table and say "That was good, whatever it was," only to find out three visits later what "it" really was.
The desert table consists mainly of fruit and ice cream. Like other Asian buffets I've been to, there is a token selection of American food for picky eaters and children, but in reality this place is one of the least adventurous places I've eaten at. There is a sushi bar that I can't vouch for and I have yet to see any of my friends eat stuff from there, so I'll avoid it until I see otherwise.
Shifting away from the food, if you have more than three people with you, or if anyone has an "American Style" physique, avoid the booths. They are vinyl covered torture chambers that simultaneously squeeze and constrain you. Some may look at their appearance as unsanitary, but I've seen worse, so don't let this bother you. Grab a table instead, and your visit will be much more pleasant. All in all, not bad for a pretty cheap place.
Pros: Seafood, particularly the fish. Food will not intimidate sensitive taste buds. If you like beef with pepper, this place is for you. Low cost.
Cons: Buffet selection is on the smaller side. Seating can be uncomfortable.
To sum it up: A solid stand-by if no one can decide on where to eat. -

Large selections, never out of food. For a such a large restaurant, there is only 1 bathroom stall for both men and women. Nevertheless, if you don't have to go, this place is a good restaurant.

Oh my goodness, for $12.50 this place is GREAT. Try the steam buns! You will not be disappointed. GREAT selection of sushi, and seafood.
Great selection of other foods as well. Excellent desserts, full fruit buffet. AND IT IS HUGE. All around, this place makes eating until you throw up seem like a great idea.
However, and this should not be a reflection of the restaurant (which is great, if you haven't gathered that by now!) there is something about this place that screams terrible parenting.
It's as though there is a banner outside that I missed that said "Let your kids run around and scream while you eat!" Seriously, there was not a quiet moment the whole time we were there.
So if you go, go with an empty stomach, and bring ear plugs. And if you're a parent, do me the favor of leashing your crotchdropping, eh? -

There were two things that were merely satisfactory about our experience at this place: (1) the Pepsi, and (2) the ice. Seriously, I can not think of anything good to say.
Granted, I went into it with low expectations - what would you expect with a $10 Chinese food buffet? But there is something distinctly wrong with having to chew on a piece of chicken for 2 minutes before being able too comfortably swallow it. The meat was the lowest quality of meat that I have ever tasted - in fact, I truly believe that half of what I ate wasn't actually meat.
I only ate about 1/4 of the first plate. Thinking I had made the wrong selections, I tried again with a second plate. I was sorely disappointed.
I will not be going to this place again. -

I went to this restaurant for lunch. I've also reviewed Royal Buffet which is also close by, but I prefer NCB because it has slightly better sushi bar, smoothie and more seafood items from the buffet. This place does not have mongolian stir fry but I don't miss it. I think it's also slightly larger than Royal Buffet.
