11 reviews for Nevada Museum of Art
We've enjoyed this museum and recommended it to all family and friends who visit the area.
Luckily, we've seen museums in Italy, France, Spain , New York, DC, LA in addition to the museums each community we visit offer. The Nevada Museum of Art has first class offerings.
I was so happy to get up close and personal with Picasso's "Le Reve" before an elbow went through it.
Thank you, Reno, for this enlightening addition to our community!
I went to the museum last weekend to catch an exhibit I thought would be interesting. Now, for such a small museum, I think that the price is ridiculous. $10? Seriously? For three floors of exhibits, one of which is dedicated to local high school art classes? Although I really liked the exhibit (and ones previous: Khalo, Warhol) I still feel like I am being ripped off every time I go there.
I was slightly annoyed when I paid, the man told me that all four floors were open today! Then when we got to the top of the building (deciding we would work our way down) the top floor was closed due to the weather. Huh? Don't tell me that all four floors are open if they aren't. Just let me continue to feel ripped off by how much money you charge. For a little Reno museum, $10 is a lot.
A treat.
Small and over priced but fun and very unreno
I just visited the museum today to catch the Yosemite exhibit before it was gone. This is my second trip to the museum, and my overall impression has been the same...a very cool museum, but pretty small for the $10 entry fee. I concur with the review below...you can do the whole museum in about one hour--especially if you have already seen the permanent exhibits. I would like this museum a whole lot more if it weren't so expensive, and as it is I only now go when there is a big temporary exhibit I really want to see.
That said, the building, which is pretty ugly from the outside is lovely inside and a nice place to visit. Plus, they have lots of events, classes for adults and children, and frequent film screenings, all of which add up to a great asset for downtown Reno.
I was pleasantly surprised by the Museum of Art. You think to yourself, "Art? In Reno?" but it's a well-presented and diverse collection.
I don't find myself in Reno that often, but I'll definitely check it out again the next time I'm there.
Cool Frank Lloyd Wright exhibit, sparse otherwise. Check out the Cafe', a little snobby but delich!
want something besides casinos and bars, here ya go. pretty cool.
The new NMA is a great addition to Reno. The admission is only $10 ($8 for students) and memberships are pretty cheap. Its a good sized collection for spending a few hours to a whole afternoon there. I also really like the museum's cafe and the shop has great gift items. I really like that a lot of their permanent collection focuses on local and/or Western artists. They also host lots of special events--art classes, Sunday Jazz brunch, First Thursdays, etc. I think the NMA is well worth a visit!!
A beautiful building and a strong collection of regional art. I now can stop in Reno without getting depressed by the sad casinos on Virginia Street.
While in Reno I always like to explore. I decided to take in the museum of art. There are three floors of artwork by various artists and one floor dedicated to Yosemite. The artwork was beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed the Yosemite collection. The museum did not allow photos to be taken which was disappointing however they did allow photos on the rooftop where there were a couple of sculptures and some awesome views of Reno. I was able to get some good shots in up there. The museum admission is $10.00 for adults and is well worth a look see.
Decent collection, fair size, not too big. The main gallery at the time was on Maxfield Parrish. Nicely arranged collection of art, however I would have liked more explanation on the lithograph procedure. They tout the roof as its own mini-exhibit with great spots for photography. The scene from the roof is OK, you can see the snowy mountains, but there are segments to shoot through, not a spread view. I would have liked more description of the two sculptures on the roof as well. Overall considering the huge art exhibit in San Francisco is free, $12 a person is hugely overpriced for this relatively small collection (nicely sized for going through in an hour) They did have a variety of media, and the area left for children to do activities was nice. Just remember that if you want to take notes on anything to bring a pencil. I had a pen and they didn't seem happy about that, asked me to put it away.
