One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
My favorite sushi in NYC. Always great service and the food is outstanding, a little twist on your traditional sushi. They offer Neo Sushi Fusion which is a set of pieces of sushi all with their own topping of some sort, a sauce or something small to add flavor. These are intended to be eaten as served and not dunked in soy sauce. The flavors are outstanding and their special rolls are always very tasty.
Presentation is very nice and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful with your order and with sake selection. They have a nice sake sampler if you are new to sake which helps you decide which kind you like. Wasabi shumai appetizer is a must and I would highly recommend trying Neo Sushi their way. I have been to many, many sushi restaurants in my life - from the all-you-can eat to the high end and Neo is right up at the top.
You usually don't need reservations, but if it is an important dinner make reservations and ask for a booth.
I mainly came her because of a coupon and it was still quite expensive. So fair warning, expect to pay money for your rolls. Its unique so thats nice.
The good side of it, its actually pretty good. Its not the best that I've had but its definitely better than average. I'm sure you could find a similar place for less but I'm not from NY so, what do I know?
Presentation and service is great too.
I wanted to love NEO after reading the decent reviews here on Yelp. I was excited to go for dinner as we had a coupon from http://restaurant.com, and I was totally in the mood for sushi.
I loved the setup, small, but romantic and nice. Although we had a reservation at 7:15 on a Friday night, we didn't really need it as there were a lot of open tables. If we had come an hour later we would have needed it for sure, the place was packed.
After we were seated they brought out complimentary edamame, which I thought was fantastic. You could also order more as an appetizer, but I thought the amount was plenty for 2 people. We were able to order pretty quickly, but then it took forever for our rolls to come out. They have some very complex type rolls, but since my bf is vegetarian he only ordered a few veggie rolls, and I ordered the spicey tuna roll and the sweet potato roll. We waited about 10 minutes before our miso soup was brought out (very small portion for the price), and then about 30 minutes after that for the sushi to be brought out. Once they brought the rolls out, they had forgot to bring one that my bf had ordered, but they said it would be right out. Well, we finished out meals, and the roll still hadn't been brought out (a mushroom roll...nothing crazy!). Finally it came, and we ate it up quickly.
After waiting a while for the waiter to come back with the check, finally he did. If I recall correctly he never checked in during the meal to see how things were, and we had to call him over to ask if the mushroom roll would ever be brought out.
Anyway, the food was good and fresh, and I would probably try it again with hopes that the service would be a little better.
The spicy tuna somen appetizer is probably one of the coolest looking things I've ever eaten. It consists tuna, avocado and tobiko wrapped with a skin of noodles, which are then either fried or steamed or both until they're stiff. It's a really cool tube of sushi wrapped in stiff and crispy noodles- awesome.
We also had the oysters, and wagyu beef, butterfish, and snapper sushi. Everything was amazing. The oysters come with two different sauces- one with yuzu and scallion, and the other with spicy radish. Beats cocktail sauce, hands down. The beef was amazingly tender- it was sliced really thin, and we watched the chef cook it with a blowtorch at the sushi bar. The butterfish is probably my new favorite sushi.
It was really expensive though. Even with free edamame and BYOB, we still spent a lot of money on the meal. The food was delicious, but I stopped at Yolato for a large froyo after dinner because I was still hungry...
I came to Neo with a friend, who knew the owner and thus we had several dishes on the house. We ordered the tuna carpaccio (AMAZING) and got the sashimi ceviche. They were both very fresh and was cut very well. For our entrees, we got ginger jumbo prawns (didn't try it, but he said he liked it) and I got the glazed chilean sea bass. The bass cooked just right and was moist. We also had the green tea tiramisu, which was a perfect balance of light and airy texture with a sweet (but not overly sweet/ overpowering) flavor. GET IT.
This is not your typical sushi place with "rolls" that taste like dry mush with hardened rice. Trust me on this, I lived in Japan and know what is good and bad sushi. They are very attentive to detail and presentation and everything tasted amazing.
Everything was appetizing and presented well. The service was friendly and attentive. But then again, that may have been because we knew the owners...
Really good sushi and service. This is more of an asian fusion place. Sushi and specialty rolls were really fresh. Right now it is BYOB which is awesome b/c where do you find that in NY?!
A little pricey (compared to other sub-par sushi places in UWS), but you get what you pay for :)
Great food with prompt and attentive service. Fillet wrapped in bacon was awesome, but then again, anything wrapped in bacon is awesome.
BYOB for a limited time only!
I've tried this restaurant twice. It's pricey but if you go to http://restaurant.com, you can get discounts. The rolls were different and fun to try. The sea bass entree was cooked perfectly and was very moist. You also get much more for your money with the entrees vs the rest. The tempura was also a huge hit. Everything was good quality. The only thing we tried that we didn't like was the mixed seafood entree- it was overcooked. Personally, I think the water tastes funny at Neo which impacts the tea.
The food was delicious. It's pricey, but it's worth it. Always great service, manager is always around, portions are basic "japanese portions" (some of these comments complained about going home still hungry). Seabass and miso cod are some of my favorite "cooked" dishes. Sushi quality is excellent. So yummy, can never get enough. Every time I visit NYC from LA I always make a stop over.
I still love this place! Need to go more. Been downtown alot. Love it! And the manager and his brother are sweethearts! The nicest guys! Cool vibe. Great food!!!
More neos please. These guys know sushi, and they know vibe...and service!!! Kind professional. A great place to bring a client!!!
:))

THIS place is wonderful. I love the food here. The service. Its amazing. I have eaten sushi in NY ,… Read more »
Neo is a trendy spot on the UWS. Neo's fusion take on sushi/ Japanese cuisine is quite refreshing. Decor is sleek and modern. If you go, you must try the tuna carpaccio, miso cod and of course, the green tea tiramisu. Service is friendly. Price is a tad on the pricey side, so it's definitely not your casual dinner spot. If you have a date, this is the place to impress.
Sushi here was sliced extremely thin, so I wouldn't bother too much with that unless you like skimpy sushi. I sat at the bar for one of the first times, and I finally watched how precise sushi chefs try to be. Very Nice. I appreciate sushi making alot more now. I ordered an avocado roll (kind of small), ikura sushi(very explosive yum!), Two pieces of seared tuna sushi(very skimpy), and main course of prawns. Good thing I didn't think back to watching D-9 last week, or the prawns wouldn't be possible to eat. But I saw them, My eyes lit up, and I devoured. They were in this rich sauce and tasted awesome. Nice jumbo sized tails, so juicy and shrimpy! I thought the prices were high, but I was on the upper west side, so I did it to myself. Damn those prawns were good.
After seeing all of the praise for this place, I grabbed a few friends and decided to try it out on a Friday night. Unfortunately, the experience turned out to be an overpriced, overhyped and unsatisfying.
But first to the pros: the service was superb. We were able to be seated (with no reservation) at 8:15PM-ish. The restaurant was in the process of renewing their liquor license, so we were able to bring in our own alcohol. The restaurant helped us serve two bottles of wine. The edamame was complimentary.
Now, to the cons: Although it was heralded as a "fusion" restaurant, we weren't impressed by the creativity. The dishes were lackluster imitations of Nobu and Sushi Samba, but at about the same price. Although the arrangements were artistic, the portions were diminutive. The sashimi ceviche ($17) left a fishy taste in my mouth-- the fish that wasn't entirely fresh. (I did not have an upset stomach afterwards, fortunately). The hamachi serrano ($20) was also a it fishy. I was the only one who detected this, but I'm also the biggest fan of hamachi at the table. We also ordered the yuzu miso cod ($21) and soft shell crab ($21). Miso cod meat was nice and flakey, but the skin was incredibly fishy. The soft shell crab was actually the highlight of the entrees. Nicely battered and perfectly crispy. Lastly, we shared a neo Special Mango Roll ($20 for 8 pieces) and neo style Spicy Tuna Roll ($19 for 8 pieces, also heralded to be "the best tuna roll in the city" by the waiter). Frankly, there was nothing special about either one of these rolls. Again, the portions were small. Typically for this price, the rolls that you'd find are significantly larger than usual. These were just about the same size as the $7 rolls you'd find at any other sushi restaurant. We were left to scratch our heads and ask "what fusion??" Besides the little dots of "special sauce," on the plate, little else was unique.
Even after all of this, it was just about enough food for 2-3. Not 4 (2 girls, 2 guys). The bill came out to $120+ and mind you that this did NOT include the alcohol. We all were left still hungry and had to order some extra take out back at my apartment.
I'd like to give Neo sushi the benefit of the doubt and suggest that it could've been an off night for them or we were simply looking for something a bit more filling. Perhaps our expectations are much higher than the typical diner's. But from what I've tasted in NYC, I would still recommend to save your money for somewhere else.
The service was incredibly attentive. The seaweed salad was very good and came with sliced tomatoes. Their sushi was delicious and exquisitely prepared, but overall their food is rather overpriced. The 56$ chefs pick only comes with 10 pieces of okay looking sashimi. The rolls, like the Dragon and Rainbow are almost $20 each, but are all decorated with orchid flowers and those little crunchy eggs. The oolong tea was very good. Its nice for a treat or business dinner but I wouldn't recommend it for a date or night on the town.
I eat a lot of sushi, and I have my usual haunts in the UWS. I am not sure how it happened, but we've managed to live in the neighborhood for three years without once setting foot in here until last night. I wish we'd come in much, much sooner. This is not your traditional sushi. It is, as our server pointed out, "fusion" or an Americanized version. There was no soy sauce at our table, and no little mound of wasabi corralled by fake plastic grass on the platters of beautifully assembled, jewel-like pieces of sushi. The sushi didn't need any of that anyway. Each piece came with its own special sauce, designed to enhance, not overpower, the flavor of the fish. And that's exactly what the sauces did. I'm not sure how they managed to plate our food up without the sauces mingling or ruining the other flavors. Every piece of fish we had was fresh. The ginger that came with the single roll we ordered (the nëo Style Yellowtail Chili Roll) was very gingery, not too pickley. The roll itself was not my favorite, only because the nigiri we had was too good. We saved room for dessert, sharing the green tea tiramisu and a chocolate cake, the name of which escapes me. The tiramisu was amazing - light in texture, but extremely flavorful. The chocolate dessert came with ginger ice cream, which complemented the richness of the ganache perfectly. Our server was very friendly, and did not seem to mind that we took our time. We did not feel rushed at all.
It's expensive, but this is a special place. It will not replace our usual, "every day" sushi, but I think this is our new "special occasion" sushi spot. I'm looking forward to finding an excuse to celebrate here in the near future.
Fresh, innovative and delicious sushi! Thank goodness I read the reviews about the http://restaurant.com gift certificates... however, I should have bought the $50 off instead of the $20 off... how did I know our bill for two would be over $125???? Service is top notch and I really enjoyed the maki rolls which run around $17 - $20 a roll (avg. 8 pieces). We also tried the yellowtail appetizer which was really good, but not sure if it is worth the thirty bucks price tag.
If you feel like splurging, then try Neo with a $50 GC. Otherwise, try Tenzan not too far away.
The food is great and high in quality. However, the prices are really high for what you get. Definitely an nice indulgence once in a while.
OMG, this is the BEST sushi I have ever eaten!!! It is seriously the most delicious and beautifully arranged sushi - complete with elegant sauces drizzled ornately on the plate so there's no need for dipping in soy sauce!
We ordered the neo Eel Cucumber and Avocado Roll. The eel was chopped -not SLICED like how I normally see it, but chopped and still wrapped around the sushi! And it was filled with tempura flakes, deceptively giving the taste of delicious tempura shrimp. YUMMY!
We also ordered the Salmon Miso neo Roll, neo Mango Special roll, and Spicy Tuna Somen. All very good, especially the Spicy Tuna Somen. The spicy tuna was wrapped with salmon and the somen ends were deep fried! It looked and tasted absolutely amazing!
All the sushi we ordered had a great combination of ingredients and flavor. Each bite was definitely a taste of heaven! It is a little pricey though - about 20 bucks a roll. But it's soo worth it just to splurge a little esp if you have a $50 coupon from http://restaurant.com!
We also ordered the Kelp Salad (seaweed salad) - it was piled up high! Our mushroom soup also had about 3 or 4 different kinds of mushrooms.
The service was spectacular too! The waitress was so attentive and elaborately described each dish to us before serving it. We also ordered hot tea that came in its own tea pot and placed on an individual fancy coaster. She also refilled our tea cups for us and exchanged my bf's cup for fresh hot tea while he was using the restroom!
Too bad we're from California, or we'd go all the time =(
I was here on a Sunday night with a close friend for a late dinner. We were greeted and promptly seated by the hostess. Our waiter was a pretty cool guy who helped us choose some great entrees from the kitchen. We started out with the Hamachi Serrano (thinly sliced yellowtail sashimi with a yuzu infused soy sauce). It was very fresh & tasty and helped kick start our wet appetite. We then the Yuzu Miso Cod (alaskan black cod marinated in a yuzu miso reduction), Glazed Chilean Sea Bass (marinated in a honey tamarind sauce served with unfried sushi rice) , and the filet mignon (wrapped with bacon on a bed on mash potatoes. They were all perfectly cooked and well presented. After all that we still had some room for dessert. So we ordered the green tea tiramisu...vey tasty and not too sweet. The total bill came to $105 which was perfect for the $50 GC I got from http://restaurant.com. It was definitely a great way to end our Sunday evening. Highly recommend this place!
FYI - Neo's currently not able to serve alcohol as they're in the process of renewing their liquor license, so BYOB is encourage if you like to pair your food with alcohol.
Ok. I gotta tell you that this place rocks!
I was coming from Japan Day event in the central park.
My friend and I were really starving and she wanted sushi so bad!
Unfortunately I didn't know that we were going to a Japanese restaurant, I didn't research before I left home.
And even though I had an iPod touch, I couldn't find free wi-fi hotspot.
I called another friend and ask him to find a good place.
And this place was the one.
We got there at 3:20pm, and the place was closed to prepare for dinner.
They said they open at 4, so we waited at Banes & Noble until 4.
When we opened the menu, we were like "WOW! this place is fancy.. hm..."
But when we got our sushi, we were yelling "WOW! THIS TASTES AWESOME!!!"
OMG! We kept yelling and yelling!
It was expensive but was worth the money!
My friend's kids were kind of noisy but waitresses were very kind to them and very nice to us.
The waitress who served our food explained each sushi to us.(how nice she is!)
I will come to this place again for a date or an important meeting. :)
I met two friends here for dinner because I had a $50 http://restaurant.com coupon I wanted to use. I checked out the reviews on yelp beforehand and was pretty excited to try this place out. I'm happy to report that everyone here is correct - this place is amazing! The presentation of the dishes is beautiful and the food is delicious.
Between the three of us we split four rolls and a bottle of wine. We all agreed that we usually over order when we go out for sushi, but this was the perfect amount.
The prices are a bit high to make this a regular dinner spot, but I'll definitely be back again. (Eventually)
Neo has all the looks and pretentions of your typical NY corner sushi restaurant. When I came in and opened the menu, I thought "Wow, they've got some really interesting maki rolls and wow, they are a bit expensive." Somehow, Neo maintains that casual neighborhood feel (the tables are close and it's not uncommon for strangers to engage in friendly conversation between tables), while cranking out sushi at quality that I've only seen replicated at Nobu.
To start, my girlfriend and I split the Hamachi/Kampachi appetizer. A little steep to pay $25 for 8 raw pieces but I have to say, it was fantastic. For mains, she had a couple maki rolls, while I had the stone Filet Mignon BBQ. This is one of my favorite things at those uber Japanese places like Tao and Japanais and it was cool that they had it at Neo. The quality of the meat was fantastic, though the staff was surprisingly, but understandably nervous about my cooking raw beef on a sizzling hot stone, offering to cook it themselves in the back. I'm sure this has caused many disasters in the past, but they trusted me and it was, of course, great. It came with some side vegetables to grill and dipping sauces. I'd highly recommend it. I washed my dinner down with a Saketini, prepared with Ketel One. Have that too.
Rebecca L is sooooo right. This place gets 5 stars for its bathroom that smelled like cherry blossoms. I got back to my table and proceeded to tell my date that she absolutely had to go to the bathroom because it smelled so good. Yeah, she came back with a silly, pleasured grin on her face.
Seriously, though? It's the same attention to detail showcased in the olfactory pleasure of their bathroom that made their dishes so delightful.
Two dishes stood out. Their yuzu miso cod was indeed one of the tastiest things to pass my lips in the last month; doesn't matter to me if it's a knock off since I never had the original (& seriously, tasty is just tasty folks). The spicy tuna somen, while a little bit hard to eat, was delicious and novel. It made me wonder why more things are not wrapped in crispy somen; it's so durned toothsome!
Neo Sushi might be a little too pricy and modern to replace your favorite traditional sushi joint. But it's a great place for a comfortable splurge on a weeknight. And you really must go to their bathroom.
THAT WAS DELICIOUS.
I just got back from a meal at Neo, and the $56 12-piece sushi dish? Totally worth it. The sushi is not served with soy sauce. Instead, the chef marinates/prepares the sushi with sauces and garnishes that will bring out the flavor of the fish, rather than letting them all taste like soy sauce and wasabi.
And his flavors were pitch-perfect. Honestly, normal sushi seems boring to me now. It was also the first time I thought "ikura" (salmon roe) tasted good--delicious, even. I just never liked it until now. It's probably because it was so fresh.
I liked how the uni wasn't marinated at all. Some things are just better naked.
The service was attentive and courteous as well.
Oh, and it's on http://restaurant.com. I bought a $50 coupon for $4, which is only applicable after ordering $100 or more. Which, trust me, is not hard to do here.
Will definitely be back, but probably only on very special occasions. The bill came out to be a little under $140 with tip even after the $50 coupon (between the two of us).
BUT IT WAS DELICIOUS.
I heard this place was gonna be the best sushi I will ever try and I had my doubts till i actually got to try it. Being that I live in LA near sushi row, it is pretty hard to impress me with sushi. That is until i went to Neo. Amazing doesnt even justify the quality of fish. I was in New York for a week and went back 3 times. The service is impeccable. I went on a dinner date and the atmosphere was quite enough to have a conversation and when I went back with friends they had a big enough table to accommodate 8 and we had a blast.
Dont forget to try some of their top shelf sake. I would go back just for the sake... but I doubt I could turn down the sushi if I was there.
I couldn't agree with Hana Y. more. The way their sushi is served is perfect. No need for extra wasabi or soy sauce. Oh dont forget they make their own soy sauce.
Keep an eye out for a celeb too.
I've been here a few times and got introduced by a friend who's a sushi fanatic. I on the other hand at the time wasn't really into sushi or ate sushi at all. But so I went in, I was by myself and sat at the Sushi bar. I look over my left and saw this this lady having a long plate with all kind of different color fishes on top. So I asked her what roll did she get? She replied "Rainbow Roll" So I was like "That looks really good, I actually don't eat fish but I'm beginning to study Japanese so I've tried Unagi twice and it was okay." She was pleasantly nice and told me to try one and see if I'll like it before I order. So I picked one, and try it and it was so damn good! That's the moment I got hooked to Sushi.
So okay after that I couldn't stop smiling and told the chef to make a Rainbow Roll for me. I ate one after another and the flavor of the soy sauce, wasabi, sashimi and avocado melt in my mouth mMm. Drinking hot Sake on a freezing day made it even more awesome. The next time I was here I got a little more bold and tried the 8 piece Omasake. The Sashimi was fresh and prepare with a house sauce and it just dissolve this great flavor in your mouth when you barely chew on it. It is totally worth every penny and I recommend it to everybody. I don't know if it's a new way to eat Sashimi but I haven't found a restaurant that does it with their special house sauce on top of sashimi here in Cali yet. I need to look!
The place is nice and filled with friendly people. One time I sat next to this Japanese couple in their mid-40's. I'd heard they were talking in Japanese and I wanted an opportunity to chit chat a little with them. So I said excuse me in Japanese, what is it that you're eating there? Then he told me what it was then both of them offer me to try it. Everybody is really nice there, and the staff is very attentive. She kept coming back since I told them I was gonna get something else but whenever she come to ask I wasn't ready and she had to come back like 5 times but she was nice about it. Overall, I would definitely suggest everybody to try this place. It's still the best sushi place I've been to.
oh heck yes!
I had one of the best meals of my entire life here.
And I eat...
A LOT.
My brother gave me possibly the most awesome gift ever, gift certificates to participating NYC restaurants every single month for the next year and Neo was one of those restaurants.
Seriously, could fish taste any fresher? And did I really eat steak wrapped in bacon atop mashed potatoes garnished with potato chips?? Did I really eat pumpkin cheesecake with ginger ice cream garnished with pocky??? OH YES.
YES I DID.
and it was damn good.
especially washed down with some plum wine.
plus the workers here, manager, owner were all extremely courteous and inquisitive on the service. the bathroom was large, clean and pretty... it even smelt nice. I think that's an oxymoron.
But Neo made it possible.
Thank you, Neo, thank you.
Went here the other night having read a number of positive reviews. I thought the food was above average, the service excellent, and the menu choices interesting. However, the price was absolutely absurd. I ordered the chef "choice" sushi plate for $56. After waiting over an hour (they sent over a comp plate after hitting the 1 hr mark)...10 pieces of "skimpy", average sushi...nothing at all special. Would rather go elsewhere for better sushi at a fraction of the price.
I went to Neo with a bunch of friends with high expectations because I've been hearing so much about this place. Usually when your expectations are high you tend to get disappointed, but not this restaurant. Neo was everything I imagined and more. The service was great, they always knew when to refill my drink and recommended the best dishes.
Here is what I had:
Carpaccio Tuna Neo Style - thinly sliced tuna in a beautiful presentation
Hamachi Serrano Chili with Yellowtail Sample - spicy and tangy, delish
Rainbow Roll - fresh ingredients and awesome
My friends and I had a superb dinner. Thanks Neo!
Nice space. Ok food. A bit too expensive for your little neighborhood sushi place. Really slow service.
We also purchased a $50 off certificate for $10 on http://restaurant.com. I probably wouldn't give Neo 4 stars if we had to pay full price. If I were to go back (and I would) I would probably skip the rolls and order hot entrees from the kitchen. When I order a $20 roll from a Japanese restaurant, I expect it to be pretty darn good, but their neo twisted roll was nothing more than mediocre. The kitchen food was excellent though! Loved the miso cod and supposedly the prime rib was also very good.
Excellent sushi, decor, service. Prices a bit too high, even for the quality of food. I found the fusion sushi interesting, if not traditional. I thought their strongest point were their garnishes-- this even ranged to the lovely creamy Kumamoto oysters which had scallion and citrus garnishes, as well as a spicy radish garnish.
Other standouts were the spicy salmon roll (wonderfully crunchy with some coconut), the Eel and avocado roll- whose sauce was fantastic, and the tuna tartar, which they were nice enough to add on the house after a drink was spilled by our waiter (he was very gracious about it, and moved our table so we didn't have to deal with them cleaning up). I enjoyed the Sable fish sashimi, as well.
If you're not worried about price, this is a great sushi place to go and branch out to some new fish. If you have a budget to think about, this might be a bit to pricey.
Really? Neo is getting 5 stars? really? I came here with my girlfriend around 10:30pm on a Tuesday about a year and half ago and it is memorable as the worst service I've had in all of NYC. They brought out her food, then it took them over 30 minutes to bring out mine (after I asked twice) and the place wasn't very full. The maki rolls were fine but certainly not worth ~$20 per roll. My impression was that this is sushi for people who don't really like sushi because the main focus of each roll was how it was paired with fancy sauce or something similar. Based on other reviews I might go back and try it again because people make it sound sooo different than my experience. I'll update my review if I ever do.
Definitely the best sushi on the UWS.
The service is awesome - our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and made excellent recommendations.
We had delicious hashimi, followed by salmon tartar - the presentation on both of these was beautiful. Then we ordered two rolls - the rainbow roll, which is the specialty, and the "twister" roll, all lobster goodness.
It's definitely pricey, but I think it's worth it.
I also went here after getting a http://restaurant.com certificate. The food from the kitchen and from the sushi bar are both fresh and flavorful. The staff was very friendly and helpful and it has a nice highend ambiance but still seemed to be family friendly. It is expensive but like the other reviews say, if you get the $50 http://restaurant.com certificate or have the money to spend then it is worth it.
i shouldn't even review the food because i hate fusion. it doesn't taste like this and it doesn't taste like that, and in the end it just doesn't taste like anything plus you get a bellyache.
i love discovering new things. i love trying new things. but the best things are the ones that have withstood the test of time; tried and true for eons. there are plenty out there, and i'm just waiting to discover them.
i was dragged here to eat the most "amazing sushi in the whole city". when i heard it was fusion i just shreiked inside but it was already too late, we were on our way and i couldn't back out diplomatically.
ok so the place is really well decked out, the staff is professional and service is great. the lighting is good. its comfie. but you don't need to hear me bash the food. just have a few bites and enjoy the sake.
My favorite is green tea tiramisu!
Sushi platter is work of art and other dishes are phenomenal too!
I was there few weeks ago and sat next to Keanu Reeves!!!! What a view!!!!
I love dining at Neo.
I see that many people who wrote the review can't tell the difference between your cheap neighborhood sushi joint with a high-end place like Neo. It's always those people who consider California rolls as sushi think that all sushi are created equal.
Absolutely amazing. I love sushi, I have for the better part of my life and have had it in numerous states and countries, made by essentially every ethnic and racial group, and with fusion that ranged from utterly disgusting to life changing. This my friends, is the gastronomical equivalent of resurrection after the death of your hopes, dreams, and taste buds. Nothing comes close to this experience - noting I have been privileged enough to eat yet. And with that in mind, please do yourself the favor of coming in here and trying anything on the menu, disappointment is not allowed in this fine establishment, for it would be a lie to yourself and the sushi elders who have accepted fusion as a means of reaching the palates of new audiences, and spicing up the lives of th enthusiasts.
Recently ate here and I have to say they have some of the best sushi, sashimi and Japanese food in the city - even taking both Nobus and Masa into consideration. I had a great tasting and the only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is I that believe consistency is the most important thing for sushi - so hopefully I will be graduating the review to 5 stars after my next visit!
Yummy! I ate here with my roommate and everything that we go was sooo good. It's definitely a little bit of a fusion with nontraditional sauces and creative appetizers. We got the somen tuna tar tar appetizer (YUM!), the miso-cod, VIP sushi (superb!), soft shell crab!! For dessert we got the green tea tiramisu (my fav) and tempera green tea ice cream (my roommates fav)! Everything is presented really nicely and i was super satisfied with my dinner!! I would definitely be a regular if it wasn't such a trek up to the UWS!!
