One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
Super delicious everything. Good looking design especially! Whoever was the thought process genius behind this place needs to open more, or help others do so. Phenomenal.
It is like an outdoor place, but indoors. They burn incense, which definitely brightens the mood. Great for lunch or dinner, or just beer and wine. Big selection of big beers, I enjoyed the Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin goodness with my Turkey Club. Light and fluffy onion rings go well with the salads, sandwiches and beers.
The design is the best thing here, though. Awesome art pieces, and a sweet mosaic of our downtown skyline. It's even my profile pic!
Every time I come, I am satisfied. Good things. I like that is called Neighborhood too. That means a lot.
Great beer, great burgers..sucky parking. But I'll be back. The burger with mushrooms was incredible..plus their stout (can't remember the name) was delicious.
Also love the artwork..especially the mosaic. Very nice space..I like!
I need to update my previous review because I returned to Neighborhood last weekend after literally stumbling upon it with another couple. We were hungry by that point and looking for somewhere to eat, so this fit the bill. I must say though, that I would not have returned had the manager not contacted me regarding my previous experience. That shows that they are listening and care and that in and of itself deserves me giving it a second try. Although, I tried it this time without letting them know ahead of time as the manager recommended, so that I could get a true feel for what it was like.
I was pleasantly surprised and Neighborhood was definitely able to redeem themselves in my case. This time the food was fabulous! We shared the sweet potato fries, and my husband and our friend had the ribs. I tried the steak tacos. All of our food was excellent and was presented well, warm and pleasantly.
I would not hesitate to return to Neighborhood after my second experience there.

We went on a double-date here just last weekend and I was so excited because I'd heard rave reviews.… Read more »
Consistently excellent. Always exceedingly satisfied when I leave.
I won't get into details, as I fear the Neighborhood will get extremely busy, like poor Hamiltons, which only ruins an establishment for me.
Thank you Neighborhood, thank you for your wonderful happy hour.
The staff is great but that's about it. Neighborhood is yet another boutique restaurant that is over hyped and not that good. The price is too high for the quality of food. What kind of "Burger" spot doesn't carry ketchup? I read that neighborhood was modeled after places in NY, my advice is go back to NY and do more research. Neighborhood would fail in NY to a Street Vendor. The Great Staff can only do so much for a fashion restaurant, up your game
.
I LOVE this place. I go to the architecture school down the street (New School of Architecture) and I often come here for an after-class beer and burger. Their burgers are AMAZING. They don't use a typical bun, but instead a nice ciabatta bread bun, which I know I know...it sounds fancy shmancy, but whether it is or isn't, It's F-ing amazing. The orion rings are pretty awesome too....definitely try those out.
As for the beer list, it changes but they have a nice list of craft beers on draft and by the bottle. Go to happy hour and get two for one specials!
Oh, and the cucumber in the water...i think it's a nice touch, although 2 of my friends somehow hate cucumber...weird.
Very good burger, one of the best upscale burgers i've had... i like this place much better than the "father's office" burger... this one is meater and the medium rare was perfect!
try the 777burger and add carmelized onions... Mmmmm
My favorite SD burger joint- hands down. Great happy hour- 2 for 1 SD beers and the mushroom burger is my favorite. This is one place I get a "crave" for which is far and few between for me.
Came here for lunch.
It's a great setup, nice and open. Cool people, great food.
I tried the deviled eggs and the neighborhood burger with garlic fries.
The burger and fries were my favorite. The roll was soft - so even though the burger was huge it wasn't like you had to struggle to take a bite. And the garlic fries..delicious! Makes you want to eat em with a fork to shove more in your mouth.
Will definitely go back for seconds!
My favorite restaurant, and it's only blocks away from where I live downtown.
A friend of mine told me this place sucked because they don't allow you to alter your order (ie., hold the xx sauce) or have ketchup on the premises.
Which I can understand... choice, it can be an important thing. But I'm one of those weird Mac people, who are subservient to the vision of El Jobso... I love strong visions, esp. when executed well. The interior decor, the menu, the extensive beer/wine list, the lack of 'choice' - it's uncompromising in vision, and it's a pretty good vision. If I were to make a burger place it would turn out something like this (if I were only so talented).
There are some good burger joints in downtown, but The Neighborhood burger, with their thin fries and mayo dip, is my favorite burger anywhere. My second fav is the Kobe beef burger from Las Vegas's The Burger Bar, twice as costly, as a point of reference. But it's more than that - their tacos, wraps, and even grilled cheese sandwiches, are all impeccable. The price is fitting of the food, perhaps even swinging a bit to the 'value' side due to its quality.
JALAPENO MACARONI AND CHEESE.
That's really all I have to say. But I'll go on.
The menu is great, they serve cucumber slices in the water, and the beer menu includes in-depth descriptions of what's available. Neat.
This place is a little hard to get to if you don't live in East Village, which is one reason why I don't frequent it. Great for pre-gaming, especially if you want to avoid overcrowding near Petco. It's not for people who prefer dives, as the environment is modern and geometric (like much of East Village), but it's casual enough that you certainly won't feel underdressed in jeans. But a shirt without holes in it is a good call.
If I ever find myself in East Village, I try to make it a point to visit Neighborhood. You should, too!
I went into Neighborhood yesterday for Beer Week. I had heard nothing but great things about this place in terms of food and drinks so I was excited to try it out.
The atmosphere was really cool, from the mosaic downtown skyline, to the beer embossed leather booths. Thumbs up for decor Neighborhood!
As we walked in, the waitress says, you can sit down anywhere you'd like. After taking one of the booths, we sat there waiting for service for about 15 min. When she finally came by, I asked about what the specials or unique beers that were brought in for beer week were. She looked slightly annoyed, opened up my menu and pointed to "Beer" and said those are all of our beers on tap. Ok...so I ignored the fact that she didn't really answer my question, and began reading the menu. 10 minutes later, she comes back and I order my selection: Stone Arrogant Bastard Cask (which she stated was a Karl Strauss, but clearly...it's Stone).
We got our beers shortly after and also ordered our food: Jalapeno Mac & Cheese, Beef Tartare, Pink Deviled Eggs, Grilled Cheese with Tomato Bisque, and Mini Chorizo Corn Dogs. The Mac & Cheese and Beef Tartare were sooooo good! The rest was not bad, but I probably wouldn't order them again. I'm not a huge Grilled Cheese or Corn Dog fan, but my other friends loved them.
As we're eating our food and finishing the beer, it was like pulling teeth to get the server's attention to order our second rounds before Happy Hour ended. We finally got our second beer order in right before 7. One of my friends had to leave early and asked that she get her check, which after she ran the credit card, was brought out without a pen. Not a huge deal, but I guess we can't really leave without signing the bill.
My other friend asked the waitress would it be easier for you to split the bill or have us just write the credit card amounts on the back. The waitress responds with "yeah, I can't split it, I'll bring you the bill." She brings the bill over, and as we look it over, we notice that the HH beers were not so happy. So I asked her if the bill included the HH already...and she said "well we can't give you happy hour prices if you split the bill." At this point, I was done ignoring the fact that we were getting BAD service. She just contradicted the fact that she didn't want us to split the bill in the first place and yet still thought we wanted it split so didn't give us HH prices? I'm confused....I used to work in the industry and understand that during busy times, it's hard to get to all of your tables, and service may be slow. There is no reason to really act openly annoyed at your guests! Long story short, we got our HH prices, and left.
It's a shame that I would've given this place a much higher rating if it weren't for the service. So 3 stars for food, 0 for service.
I'm not really sure why everyone thinks this place is the bee's kness. I mean, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't exceptional either. I had the veggie sandwich and it was okay. It wasn't anything memorable. They should really think about grilling the inside of the bread so the sandwich doesn't turn into a soggy mess 5 minutes after they bring it out to you. We also got the jalapeno mac and cheese. For the price I expected something better. I feel like it was just melted kraft singles on some noodles with a couple of diced jalapenos. And my water with the cucumber in it tasted like dirt. Maybe I had a dirty cucumber? I don't know.
Alright, now, here's the deal. I'm kinda blind, I can't really see in the dark. So maybe have a little more light so my geriatric eyes can see the menu and the food I ordered. But keep those red ball light thingies, they're pretty bad ass. Also, I feel like places that list their prices as just a number (you know .... Cheeseburger 10, that kind of thing) send out that "we are cool and classy, so we don't need decimal points" vibe. That's fine. But live up to it. And if I'm going to eat a 10 dollar sandwich it should be memorable. I don't expect it to change my life, but I want to be happy. Don't we all just want to be happy in the end?
On the plus side our waitress was very nice and attentive. AND she looked like Samaire Armstrong from the OC. Remember her?! Anyone? Anyone? Ok... anyway, we got our food and drink in a timely fashion, so that was cool.
I didn't try the beer though. I'm cheap alright! Water is FREE. If I go next time it'll be for the beer and some fries (those were pretty good!).
I wanted a burger and beer for lunch so Neighborhood was the choice today. Today the surrounding streets and the building that houses Neighborhood were really loud with construction. Even with the noise, we were able to conduct a little conversation while we waited for the food.
I got a Delerium, Neighborhood burger cooked medium (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) and the regular fries. Along with the dish comes a sauce that is burger specific and it seemed to go well with both the fries and burger. The sauce that comes with the Mushroom Marsala burger was my favorite of the two burgers we ordered (apparently it's the only non-mayo based burger sauce). Once I got my burger, I sliced it down the middle and it seemed to be more on the medium rare side of the spectrum (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) but I'm not picky. The patty was good and I liked the char that was crusted on the outside. The arugula, caramelized onion and cheese were a great combination for the meat. Encapsulating all of it was a pillowy soft bun with a resilient crust - good to catch all of the blood and meat juices flowing out of the patty... it didn't fall apart and my hands stayed pretty clean until the end. The fries were also very nice. I had the regular fries that were cut in the Pik-Nik thin style (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) and tasted the sweet potato ones (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). The sweet potato fries are the best that I've had in recent memory... the cheese crumbles were a great touch.
Another small wrinkle in today's lunch was that the CC processing machine was offline... maybe the construction has something to do with it. If you're going in before the end of October 09, bring some cash with you. Overall, a great lunch.
Yummy burgers and mac 'n cheese. Love the casual, yet lively ambiance. It's my GO-TO place when friends are visiting from outta town. Just beer & wine though
My favorite happy hour in town!!
Neighborhood is an all around great place. I've been through here probably five or so times. The service is good, the food is very good and the beers are awesome.
As of this writing (and since their opening I believe) their happy hour features buy one get one free local San Diego beers!
I'd say go for the happy hour and maybe grab some sweet potato fries as an appetizer. Mucho num num.
I enjoyed my burger and, in general, the look of the place. It's a fairly small space and patrons at several tables were huddled over computers the night we were there.
Liked some of the large decorations on the walls.
Instead of candles, they used red LED balls for light.
Place could use a bit of extra lighting in the evening and a bit more heat.
Would consider going back if I was in the area.
Pretty damn big fan of The Neighborhood. Very good menu and no corkage fee when you bring your own wine, so you save money that way. The menu is quite inexpensive as well...that way you can pay for parking!
But they have something pretty much for everyone, and they have pretty creative stuff on the menu. Plus, their beer list is pretty good as well. It doesn't seem like it is crowded on the weekdays, and on the weekends it is really not bad as well.
This place is good for an after work drink, going with friends or even on a date (which is when I went). Very flexible place and a good atmosphere.
The service is good, the food is good and it is very moderately priced as I mentioned. Tough to go wrong here, especially downtown.
The Cajun burger was delicious and perfectly cooked, and probably the best burger I've had in years. Onion rings were amazing and actually reminded me of some Indian food my mom makes. The Belgian strong sampler was so good and left me craving more. The beer selection seriously makes me drool, and the fact that it more than pleased my girlfriend with it's atmosphere and food easily makes this a place I will frequent.
Definitely worth a visit. Low key, fun environment. Very nice selection of boutique beers including my favorite belgian trappist beers like Westmalle Tripel and Duvel. The food is good quality, fresh, hot american bar food but with some good twists - sweet potato fries (really good), fennel fries (something like onion rings but with a fennel flavor of course), excellent burgers. The only disappointment - when they suggest 'spicy' on the menu (with words like jalapeno or cajun rubbed) if you like spicy food like me then you will be disappointed by the lack of any fire. The other thing is - be prepared for you order to roll out in dribs and drabs as it is ready. Worth a visit!
As plenty of people have already mentioned, The Neighborhood is basically San Diego's answer to Father's Office: a cool little bar with gourmet burgers and a stellar beer selection. They usually have a few special releases from local favorites like Stone, Alesmith, and Port Brewing on tap. They have plenty of great beers from non-SD breweries as well.
I really like the atmosphere of this place: indoor/outdoor seating, cool tile mosaics on the walls, and an overall vibe that feels hip but casual. And it's conveniently located a few blocks east of the main Gaslamp Quarter, so it's close enough to the heart of downtown but out of the way enough to bypass most of the riff-raff. I've never had any trouble finding a seat here. And the service has always been great, especially up at the bar.
The only thing holding this place back from true perfection is the fact that the entrees are good but not outstanding. Their standard burger is a lot like FO's, only bigger and a little less expensive. (One similarity: no ketchup. Get over it.) It's a tasty, well-crafted burger, but I remember that the last time I had it, I felt like it could've used a little extra something to it. Similarly, the chorizo corn dogs and the jalapeno mac & cheese are solid but slightly underwhelming. On the other hand, the sweet potato fries are amazing; the cheese crumbles and garlic dip are a nice touch. The popcorn is pretty incredible too. (And really, how could you not love a place that offers popcorn as an appetizer?)
Overall, it's a great place to hang out and enjoy good beer. Easily my favorite place in downtown SD.
Sweet Potato Fries & Beer? I don't think life gets any better.
best burger i ever had! great munchie items and a wide selection of local brews. check out the san diego sampler!
What do you think Mr. Roger's would have been like if this was his neighborhood?
Well he would certainly have traded in his sweater and loafers for some flip flops and a V neck T. What I mean by this is that neighborhood is kazh but cool. It is casual enough to have a bar with several beers on draft, yet cool enough to serve its food on plates that look like they were stolen from the Jetsons.
I did not order an entrée. Only nibbled on someone else's sweet potato fries which were like the Pringles of bar fries. Once I popped I couldn't stop. I wish I hadn't eaten so much before I came here because the burger looked so good that it made me drool more than San Diego Bikini week!
I'm easy to impress, but I loooove when places serve cucumbers in their water. The server was very nice and politely obliged when I asked for extras in mine. She didn't seem annoyed and even fake laughed when I kept shortening cucumbers to cucs in my requests. It takes good service to get drinks and food promptly, but it takes great service to do it while putting up with horrible jokes by jackasses like me trying to get a rise out of their friends.
This place is great.
The beer is wonderful and the food is EXCELLENT!
the service, thats another story. last time I went I had a female server who couldn't get it together. we waited 30 minutes and still hadn't been asked for our drink order. then once we got our drinks, it was another 20 until she was back for our food order. there were probably only 3 other groups so its not like it was busy. the service was very slow and when she wasn't ignoring us she was forgetting our drinks, or sauce etc. there was a guy working named matt (I think) who saved our experience. after about the 5th time we had to ask him for things she'd forget, or to hunt her down for us, he pretty much took over her job. he made our evening much more enjoyable. he is not only the reason for the 4 star review, but the reason i continue to frequent this restaurant.
Figured I'd take a moment out to update my first http://Yelp.com Review of the Day for one of my favorite places to eat, drink and kick it in SD.
A lot has changed (i.e. improved) at Neighborhood since it opened, but all the important things have stayed the same. There are times when I'm laying in bed at night, or waking up in the morning; even when I'm mowing the lawn, or waxing my ride-- and like a mirage, visions of a Neighborhood burger make me stare blankly ahead, drool escaping my lips. Nine times out of 10 I'll hop in the car and go get one. To go orders are great if I'm still in my PJs!
Besides the same ole burgers, new menu items make Neighborhood downtown SD's true gastropub. Simple dishes, distinctive flavors and perfect served with one of 27 taps. If you ever go to another one of those 'beer bars' and pay 9 bucks for a glass of Chimay you're likely to want to drink more just to cope with the fact that you just dropped that kind of change on a fucking beer. Granted, an excellent beer. But Neighborhood's beers are all on price point, likely due to a good distribution program.
Right now I'm on a porter kick, and Neighborhood generally has anywhere from 2-4 porters/stouts to choose from. In addition to these, there are beers from every family; wheat beers, Belgians, IPAs, lambics/sours... kick ass bottle list.
Reason #44527/J that I love Neighborhood is because they believe in promoting craft beer, and are large supporters of the local scene. Mon-Fri local brews are 2 for one, most under 5 bucks to begin with. Score.
The music is always top notch, pretty people flock in the EV, and overall the 'hood is a stellar place to hang with friends, craft beer and excellent food.

One of the reasons I miss working in Downtown is my proximity to Neighborhood and the promise of a quality burger and a craft beer at lunchtime.
No matter how rough my day was, heading down to this G. St. gastropub would smooth things out via a freshly poured Chimay and the Mushroom Burger, still tied for my favorite burger in San Diego.
Strangely, it's the little things that stick with me about this place. The slice of cucumber in the water...the hip designs on the staff's t-shirts...its things like this that remind me that they've thought out the experience here from start to finish and care about their clientele.
Lately, I've seen them do a lot of events aimed squarely at the local beer community...something I can completely get behind. Doing events focusing on craft breweries like Allagash is sure to have me brave Gaslamp parking for a spot at the bar...and I loathe battling for parking anywhere, so what does that tell you?
In short, not only is Neighborhood a welcome part of the SD beer community, it's a damn good restaurant too.
FYI, Brian M., it's "chic", not "shiek". Just sayin...

"Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" - Neighborhood SD is on my "Top 10" list in San Diego. The food is top quality - #foodinc - options for those choosing to eat at places with a conscience..."Love The Deviled Eggs"...Grilled Cheese Sandwich & Tomato Soup!
The food is great, the beer is stupendous ---but what makes this place fantastic is the friendly, kind and accommodating attitude of the staff...They get the fact that no one is too hip to be gracious to a paying customer.
Check out Neighborhood next time you are in downtown San Diego!
5 Stars for ambiance - 2 stars for food - 1 star for service = 2 Stars
How can a burger joint NOT have ketchup or mustard? Not everyone wants to eat your "Homemade Sauces". Add whatever you want to add to MAYO, Its still MAYO and its gross.
The waitress, Valerie was so sly (and also seemed a bit bipolar because she went from grouch to BFF in a matter of minuets). She said " Fries, Salad, or Chips?" to me, that means the burger comes with one of the 3, right? I'm not going to say I don't want it if it comes with it..... Well, WRONG! Not only do you pay $10 for that dry ass burger, you also have to pay $2 for for dry ass fries?
Also, I called to ask what the happy hour was and I was told it was 1/2 off local brews and glasses of wine. SO of course I order an $8 glass of wine....turns out I was not given the correct specials
Neighborhood is a craft beer bar.
Let me repeat that, because I don't think that it's sunk in with the rest of SD's population yet.
Neighborhood is a craft beer bar.
It's also a restaurant, but you knew that already. Maybe because it doesn't subscribe to the typical bar/beer bar decor of worn wood and aluminum beer signs, or try to look like Oktoberfest or an old pub. Nope, Neighborhood is sheik. Modern, clean, industrial design. Brushed metal fixtures and bar. Track lighting. Good music that's full but not blaring. Awesome artwork and mosaics on the walls. This is the place for beer nerds that can appreciate when a restaurant is set up to stimulate all the senses...not just your taste buds.
Anyway. Back to the beer. While there are beer bars with a more overwhelming selection, the tap list here is extensive, and most importantly, it rotates. It's one thing to just keep a massive amount of kegs in the back and never clean your tap lines since 'it's just the same beer coming out of it'. Eh. I never get tired of Neighborhood because there's always something new on tap that I haven't tried. Special emphasis is given to local brews, and the taps denote which beers are local for some guidance. There's even an, ahem, "Classic American Style Lager" for you cheap-asses. Hey, apparently it won a ribbon once. Must be good.
I'm generally not apt to order wine when in a place with this spectacular of a tap list, but they've got quite a few solid wines here (yes, local CA wines, seeing a theme?). I think there's a 2-for-1 bottle night...ask one of the lovely servers. I did once, but then I asked her to pour me another Speedway Stout, and psh, whadda ya know, I forgot.
The food is top notch too! Sweet potato fries and jalapeno mac & cheese are my staples. I've probably scarfed down every vegetarian item on the menu and have never been disappointed. Sauces are prepared and presented to complement your food. If you're looking for worn out, familiar preservative-laden flavors and condiments, look elsewhere please.
Follow them on Twitter and check out their Facebook page, as I've found that's the easiest way to get updates on special keg tappings, cask ales, and the like. (Hitachino Nest White Ale...drool...) These folks take care of beer lovers.
If you ever see a sweaty guy park his bike outside and saunter in, buy him a beer. That's probably me, and I'm thirsty!
I like the place very nice, small, and good atmosphere. Other than that I had fun drinking my cider on the wobbly table not screwed to base. I moved to another table. The waitress took a long time to come take our food order. I had to ask the food server to fetch her. Home girl didn't come by much and I don't like looking to ask for stuff. Then when the check comes they get all nice and for tips towards the end. Pisshhh I didn't see her much to give more so I just gave the regular tipping I normally don't give. Anyway I was happy with the mushroom burger and sweet potato fries with blue cheese YUM! I didn't even see mac n cheese on the menu the heck I have to go back and try that perhaps...
Man! This place has got the right formula. Great location + Great food + Great BEER + Great Staff = Neighborhood.
I love every experience I have at this spot and I always want to go back for more. The decor is awesome, a blend of causal chalkboards and wall writing with great art and table pieces. The skyline mosaic is the real deal!
I would drop a sixth star on this one if I could just for the fact they promote great beer and local breweries.
OK I am going to have to disagree...
I gave this place a second chance, I love a great hamburger and the beer is a plus, but unfortunately the hamburger was kind of a disappointment, the meat was DRY and tasteless and the bread tasted like it was old. We will be sticking to Hamilton's or O'Brien's for the beer-burger combination.
I came here awhile back ago and forget to yelp about it!
This place is really cute! The venue is a little small but it works. You have to write your name on the chalkboard and wait to be seated. Or at least we thought it was a wait-to-be-seated type place. Because some other people walked in, saw empty seats, and just sat. Are we supposed to know right away that we can just sit wherever we want? Especially if we're not from around here?
The place was packed when we came in. So we waited a good 20 minutes before a server came to us and sat us. I guess you do wait to be seated. I don't know about those other people!
The place was dim which makes for an intimate dinner. They have this little red ball in the middle of the table that acts like the candle.
The food was delightful! I ordered the Neighborhood burger and I loved, loved, LOVED the caramelized onions! It made the burger that much more tastier. It came with garlic french fries which were really good. They're more like shoe-string potatoes than fries. We also had the sweet potato fries and those were good too. Not my favorite, but not bad.
The staff was friendly and nice enough to us. The prices were fair and the service was good. We enjoyed the restaurant and would definitely go back.
This is the perfect place to get your first drink, before hitting downtown.
Tons of import beers on tap. Cute waitresses. Warning this place gets very packed on a Friday night. I don't think they have a full bar. Have not had the food.
i've pretty much had everything on the menu a few times. let me lay out a SOLID meal:
Lunch - Crispy Shrimp wrap on whole wheat tortilla with a coca cola (substantial but not too much food where you feel heavy)
Dinner - Start with Mac and Cheese, (this is not an option). Order a Delirium with the Pink Elephants. Neighborhood Burger (order medium rare, it will come out medium/medium well), and fries.
The owner is chill, the people that work there are cool, the music is solid and honestly one of the best places to go with friends or take out of towners and just hang for the night. good balance of restaurant and mellow bar atmosphere.
Kind of the Hamilton's of downtown. I was there on a late saturday afternoon and was surprised how small it was. I bet it gets packed later on. Jimi and Jesus both have paintings of themselves holding burgers on the wall. That gets an extra star right there :)
Finally went here after my husband kept telling me I had to check it out. I had the jalapeño mac n' cheese, which I wish had a bit more bite to it. The popcorn, however, is delicious-- truffle oil and parmesan cheese! My husband had the grilled cheese, which was delicious (but riddled with tomatoes for those who aren't a fan, like myself). He also swears by the PB&J sandwich. The beer list is also very compete, as many have mentioned, but when I got mine, there was so much foam that it was basically only 2/3 full.
I'd probably give this place 4 stars, but the service is really friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is like what you'd find in Brooklyn, so that won me over. Plus, the menu is very inventive, but there is still something comfortable and fun vs pretentious, which was a bit surprising. I'm definitely looking forward to going back to try a ton of other food choices.
Unimpressed!
Have you seen the print ads for The Neighborhood. The burger looks like it might be the most amazing thing you have ever eaten. When we arrived at Neighborhood, we were met by friendly staff and a amazing beer list (big plus - much on draft). The walls were adorned with images of Jesus, Van Gogh, Jimi Hendrix and the Mona Lisa looking longingly in anticipation of their first bite into a neighborhood burger.
What they don't show is what happens after that first bite. Jesus would have been pissed that he gave up his humble diet of stale bread and fish for a burger lacking in moisture and flavor.
VanGogh, who was impressed by the beautiful descriptions of the burgers, failed to see any artistic merit in the final presentation.
Jimi Hendrix was so high he didn't care and Mona Lisa is a fat girl and will eat anything - even a Neighborhood burger.
The sweet potato fries were good, but came early - 10 minutes before the burgers and were not piping hot. And the chips that came with the burgers lacked that greasy, bring me some more beer quality that they should have had.
One great thing about the Neighborhood is that they do not serve ketchup - there's none in the place. No decent burger should ever be smothered with that vile sauce. I just ordered a case of Heinz to be delivered to the Neighborhood.
Its been a while since I have Yelped, but this time there was good reason.
Stop by the Neighborhood for a beer, but skip the burgers.
Love the beer selection here... Oaked Arrogant Bastard on cask was delightful, as well as the Stone Cali-Belgique and Bear Republic XP on draft (needless to say, I had a good time). The Neighborhood Burger was pretty good as well. I downed the yummy skinny fries in no time in my drunkenness, as well as some sweet potato fries. Seems to be a very popular place. Our waitress was fantastic and took care of us promptly all night long bringing more of SoCal's finest craft brew at will Next time I'm in San Diego, I will definitely be back to sample more beer and gastropub grub. And they put this glowing red orb on our table which led to some wonderful pictures.
Awesome.
