Intriguing - the pictures of Jesus and Freud eating a burger.
Interesting - the servers who look like they came straight from an American Apparel ad.
Entertaining - the bus boys with they're 1920's-style facial hair.
Pleasing - the black bean burger, uniquely piled high with crispy leeks, smoked paprika portobello, cumin mayo and roasted yellow chili (hold the Swiss cheese).

I've been here late at night and I've also been here for lunch. I had a pleasing experience both times. My friend Ianne, who is in the industry, knows about all the cool places downtown so she brought us here one night. She loves the mule drink here... I'm not a fan. She recommended the jalapeno mac n cheese for us to try. This dish is definitely not for the the faint-hearted. It was sooooo spicy because it's literally covered in jalapenos. I had to scrape them off just so I can eat without blowing my nose every 5 seconds. She said there's a secret bar in the back that you have to know the password to get in, have reservations or something exclusive like that. Next time I go, I'm getting in just to see what the fuss is all about.

Lunch is pretty good. I've tried a few things on the menu and all have been pretty tasty. If you're in the neighborhood, check it out (pun intended). :)

Ok, so I was a fan of Neighborhood, but it seems as though the food and service has gone drastically downhill since a year ago.

Ordered the roasted vegi sandwich just like before, and it was NOTHING like what I remembered. I was actually able to finish my meal prior and enjoyed it- this time around I was trying to stomach soggy bread and bland flavorless tomatoes before giving up completely. My boyfriend ordered the steak frites- didn't realize that the meal consisted of mostly fries and 3 pieces of steak.

Service was so so, but pretty much got forgotten by the end of the night.

Bummer, I actually liked this place at one point!

I've been here a few times over the past year. Beer is great! Food is good. Service is hit or miss.

We were there on Saturday and had a really nice time. We were lucky enough to get a table for the 6 of us. Beer and wine were ordered and I especially liked the Belgium flight. We ordered an assortment of appetizers including sweet potato fries (delish & they were sprinkled with blue cheese which is always a plus in my book), onions rings (huge and some of the best I've ever had), chorizo corndogs (super spicy and the breading was a little too thin. We couldn't even finish them they were so spicy), and jalapeno mac & cheese (creamy and comforting).

My boyfriend and I had to leave but the others stayed and ordered dinner ( dinner menu started at 5pm and even though we sat down at 4:30pm they refused to let us order off that menu until 5 exactly). At the beginning of the meal they told us they couldn't split checks but when we asked to see it, so we could leave enough money for our potion, our server split it for us.

Good times for sure. I for sure want to try the speakeasy too!

It pains me to write these words, actually depresses me, but neighborhood has jumped the shark. The owner has gone on to start a restaurant empire, but in the process has neglected quality control at his original restaurant. Sucks because this spot was our favorite.

Our last two visits were very poor. The place was filthy and the staff didn't even bother to bus the table we were sitting at for fifteen minutes.

The burgers, once amazing, have gone downhill considerably. The bakery around the corner, which used to provide the buns, has closed. This was my favorite part of the burger. The buns were square, like a chibatta, and had tons of texture. The replacement buns are soggy, soft, and flavorless.

They have obviously neglected Neighborhood in order to pursue new endeavors. Goes to show that hired-gun management will never care as much as ownership about the quality of the products and customer experience.

    I Wasn't HIPSTER enough

I am a pretty average guy from los angeles area. I asked if they served vodka since it had such a variety of different microbrews and exotic beers; I was answered with "we don't serve vodka because we believe it tastes like whatever you mix it with." Not only was I appalled at the waitresses answer, but i was also treated differently the rest of the entire night.

Every answer I received made me feel stupid and not "hip"

Because of that statement, I felt, (along with my party) that I was treated with complete disrespect from our waitress.

I'm not a super trendy guy...I'm not trying to be. But I will definitely not be eating here ever again.

The service was average AT BEST. Our waitress Nicki was both unhelpful and unkind.

p.s. if you ask for ketchup you will hear "we don't have any; we only have sun dried tomato sauce"

I guess i should have noticed the sign outside the restaurant saying "Absolut Hype" because that's all it was "Absolut Hipster Hype"

This place is a nice little gastropub with a friendly fun vibe. It is a small space and it is open seating, so grab a table as they open up, or grab a seat at the bar. The waitresses were friendly and definitely on the cuter side. They have TVs on the wall behind the bar for your sports viewing pleasure. Tasty food and a great selection of beer.

    Food:
The neighborhood burger was solid, but the cajun burger definitely steals the show (I'm a little partial to a bit of spice and whole lot of nice.)  I'd say they were among the better burgers that I've had a gastropubs and in SD. Sweet potato fries were definitely better than the garlic fries; the garlic fries were shoestring but not really crispy. Corn dogs were good, but you wouldn't be missing out if you passed on them. P.S. The dipping sauces aren't in their own little dishes, so if you try to pick them up, they'll just spill everywhere (I speak from experience).

    Beer:
I ordered a Belgium beer sample and was pleased with all but one of the beers... there was just one that tasted a lot like rancid/vinegary apple cider. My friend ordered a local brew sampler, and of course that was great.

My only suggestion for improvement would be to make the beer sign more visible. Looks like they have a ton of stuff on draft. I'm going to need to revisit this place the next time I'm in SD.

A good selection of craft beers. Very tasty burger. Reasonably priced.

No wait for a booth on New Year's Eve. I imagine it has to get crowded on a day to day basis, because the beer is good and the restaurant is small, but we didn't have any problems.

Solid choice for beers & burgers in the Gaslamp.

I had heard great things about Neighborhood and was excited to finally try it. I didn't know much about it other than they had delicious burgers and lots of beers. So when I went in for dinner, I expected more burgers. There were only 3 on the menu (777, Neighborhood, and Spicy Cajun). Though one thing that was good about the short list was that I didn't have to sit there forever being indecisive on which burger to order.

I stuck with the Neighborhood burger and ordered a side of fries with that. We also got some sweet potato fries for everyone to share. The sweet potato fries came with this tangy vinaigrette dipping sauce that really contrasted and made the flavors stand out. I liked it. The fries were thick and well cut. The regular fries, on the other hand, were not as good. They were soggy, thin, and not crispy. I had a few of the fries before I lost interest. The dipping sauce that came with the fries were really good though.

And the burger.. oh the burger. I got it medium rare, I like my meat bloody! It was super juicy, I liked the caramelized onions, added a sweet hint to the burger. One of the better burgers I've had. It was.. not as big as I would've liked. But quality over quantity for sure. It was very delicious. I got to try a bite of the spicy cajun burger. It was really good too, the flavor was more accented because of the spiciness. I'm not sure which one I liked more.. I guess I'll have to go back and try them again!

I heard at lunch they have a bigger menu with more burgers and sandwiches. So I want to come back for lunch sometime. Oh, it's also SUPER SUPER dark in there. It took a bit for my eyes to adjust, when I first got handed the menu, I couldn't read a thing in the dark. So I also want to come back at lunch because I would like to experience this in a setting with adequate lighting. I wished they gave you candles or something, there's this little red glow ball that I'm pretty sure they got from IKEA, while it glows, it doesn't really illuminate anything. It's cool, but it doesn't help at all. I'm sure part of their appeal is being very dim lit, but it was pretty dark in there. A few more lamps or candles would be helpful.

Anyways, their burgers are really good. Super juicy and flavorful, I can't wait to try it again!

BEST MAC N' CHEESE OF MY LIFE!!  Holy crap, whatever you do get the jalapeno mac and cheese...you won't regret it! Spicy, creamy, goodness!  All three of my friends burned the crap out of our mouths eating this because we couldn't stop shoving it down our throats quick enough!

Great beer selection.  We opted for some bottles of Russian River, which you can't find everywhere.  They had Consecration, Supplication, and Temptation!

    The veggie burger was awesome!

My only complaint was that it was pretty difficult to get a table or even a seat at the bar, but then again it is the Gaslamp quarter and it was a Saturday night, so really I shouldn't even complain about that.  It's a fun environment with very interesting decor.  Check it out!

Don't believe the hype. Don't follow the crowd. If you are a pretentious hipster with an undeveloped palette, you will love this place. Sure, it has a great beer selection, but so does every restaurant in North/South Park. I don't generally don't review unless a restaurant violates unspoken principals of good food. Excuse the unorganized nature of this rant.
First, the short ribs were good. Why they were on a butter lettuce, I don't know, but they were decent at least. Everything else we had was garbage. The sweet potato fries were overcooked, like they had been pre-fried and left in the oven. The idaho potato fries were greasy and had no seasoning. How do I describe "The Neighborhood Burger?" It is a burger for people who don't like burgers. It was too sweet and had no personality. Though the taste was okay, I can eat a burger and fries five days a week and be happy. I didn't even bother finishing this one. All of this, though annoying, pales in comparison to the insult that is their milkshake. $7 for a thimble of runny vanilla soup. Give me a break. A $7 shake had better come with gold leaf, a shot of rum, something. Take this shake and the fact that they do not, as a rule, offer ketchup and you see the symptoms of a sadly pretentious restaurant. Don't waste your money here. Go to the Red Door, Urban Solace, or the Tractor Room and you will get the same type of food, but it will taste good, it will be prepared properly, and you won't have to patronize some Mickey Mouse establishment that thinks it is too good for hostesses and ketchup.

The only thing I love about this place is the food and the beer. And maybe the location and atmosphere. Other than that, the service is mediocre. The people who work there seem depressed about their lives and seem to hate working there. I asked for a glass of water and the waitress gave me the look of death. Let me tell you this: If you work at a bar, get used to people asking for a glass of water or beer! The service is the only thing keeping me away from this place.

Time to update this place.  A little bit of a wait to seat but I put my name on the chalk board and 30 minutes later we sat.  The service was a bit slow.  The cheese board : Drunken Goat, Porter Cheddar, and Blue Cheese was delicious.  I ate the The Local Animal for $9: BERKSHIRE DOG / BRAISED PORK / FRIED EGG / MUSTARD + MOLASSES GLAZE / GRUYERE / ARUGULA.  It was a too sweet for my taste but was a good unique combination of ingredients.

I still can never read their beer board.  (perhaps they should use another font)

Super mellow, lots of beers on tap, decent wine selection. Food was ok...split some jalapeno mac n cheese and it wasn't too exciting. Could have used more cheese. Friends told me to go with the black bean burger (that sounded delish), but I opted for the house salad. Huge mistake. While I liked the mix of salty (house cured pork), sweet (canteloupe) and creamy (cheese), it definitely fell short.

I'd come back for low key drinks with friends next time I'm in town, but I'll probably eat beforehand.

I don't have time to write a worthy review of this place, but it is the place I most enjoy eating in downtown. Their version of some pretty classic dishes caught me off guard by how visually appealing and tasty they could be. Just look at some of the pictures and you'll see their stuff is legit.

Misses 5 stars only because it's a bitch to find seating most nights... probably all those people waiting to go behind the kegs.

I've been meaning to come here for months -- months! -- based on some solid reviews of the food.

Gotta say, my food was only alright. I had a spicy hot dog which was drenched in too much sauce, and put together poorly. However, my friend had some fries covered in cojita cheese that was pretty incredible.

The vibe of this place was pretty hipster, which I've sadly gotten used to in sunny SD. I wish people would embrace light more in this city of sun. Good for a date, perhaps, if you can find a quiet spot in the relatively small space.

But the happy hour deal was great. 2-for-1 beer? Can't go wrong.

The mac and cheese and burgers are pretty solid. It always seems crowded.

When Matt B. and I booked our trip to San Diego, I was determined to get into Noble Experiment.  I didn't realize how far in advance we'd have to make the reservation, so we ended up leaving our name and having dinner at Neighborhood.  I'd looked the place up on Yelp and with almost a thousand reviews and a 4 star rating, it certainly checked out.

We had to wait for a spot at Neighborhood as well, but it wasn't too bad.  We put our name on a chalkboard and got seated within ten minutes.  Our seats weren't optimal, as they were against an open window on a fairly cold night, but they weren't too uncomfortable.  Service throughout the meal was reasonably good.

My favorite aspects of Neighborhood were the atmosphere and the beer selection.  The place felt like a cozy gastropub, with a definite casual neighborhood feel.  The beer list was excellent, with dozens of attractive options on tap.  I had a Pliny the Elder with my meal and enjoyed that greatly.

The meal, though, was problematic for two reasons.  The first, I'm particularly sensitive to, being in possession of a picky picky boyfriend.  The menu contained an anti-ketchup screed that read, in part: "With the hope of not sounding too arrogant or pretentious, we believe ketchup does not compliment [sic] the chemistry of our offerings, and we make condiments in-house that we feel compliment [sic] our food a little bit better."  Sigh.  Who wrote that?  I mean for one thing, learn the difference between compliment and complement.  For another, all the "we feel" and "we believe" only underscores the condescension.  For yet another, there was sriracha on the menu.  House-made?  Doubtful.  50 cents?  Yes.  Anyway, the anti-ketchup "we do what we want because we do it better" attitude would have been less annoying if it were only deserved.

My main complaint, then, is that Neighborhood's food was nothing special. The exception here was the jalapeño mac and cheese, which was great, with lots of yellow melted cheese sauce and pasta cooked to retain a lot of bite.  We ordered this mild (again, picky boyfriend), but it still packed some pleasant heat, with flecks of salsa and jalapeño mixed in.  Everything else, though, left me cold.  I ordered the spicy cajun rubbed burger, and it came with pickled radish, onion, cucumber, and jalapeño mayo.  It could've used ketchup.  I mean, they tried to mask a mediocre patty with condiments anyway, so why not ketchup? The patty was actually cooked correctly, to a tender medium rare, but it was remarkably lacking in flavor.  I don't know if it was a failure of seasoning or just a bland cow - it didn't taste like a juicy puck of beef, and the extras were only distractions from this shortcoming.  I did like the crunch from the pickles, but that was it.  The bun, too, lacked character.  It was soft, but had nothing else to offer.  I ordered a side of Idaho fries, and these were limp and uninteresting.  They did come with a couple house dipping sauces, a garlic herb mayo and a mustard aioli.  These were fine.  We also ordered the sun-dried tomato purée as a substitute for ketchup, as Matt does not eat mayonnaise.  For whatever reason, what was listed on the menu as a tomato purée was also an aioli.  That was a waste of 50 cents.  Matt had the grilled cheese as his meal, and this was also aggressively mediocre.  It wasn't bad, but it was a pretty standard grilled cheese, with toasted white bread and some gruyere and cheddar, with a sticker price of $9.  It came with a roasted tomato bisque, which tasted good in that jarred pasta sauce way.

We did get into Noble Experiment, so our meal was not for nothing.  We also enjoyed the beer and the atmosphere as we ate.  That said, attitude has to be earned and Neighborhood did not earn it.  The kitchen obviously rates itself higher than it should - for all I know, some of its shortcomings might be mitigated by some Heinz.

I'm a burger officianado so when my cousin was raving about taking me here I was excited but skeptical at the same time. This place is epic! A cool lounge feel with great artwork and my kind of music. They got custom paintings of Jesus, John Lennon and The Dos Equis guy eating a burger, Rad!

Get the THE NH BURGER Caramelized Onions/ Gruyere/ Blue Cheese/ Arugula. Best burger Ive had in years. Or the SPICY CAJUN BURGER Pickled Radish/ Pepper Cucumber Slaw/ Chipotle Mayo. The PB and J sandwich is one of there staples too. The vinaigrette dip that goes with there crispy sweet potato fries is spot on.

Atmosphere: The Mosaic mural of the San Diego skyline is a great touch. Can hear a combination of jazzy beats and classics.
Service: Took a long time to get our food but its a cool place to just chill, they got a great selection of magazines too.
Beer: They got all my favorite beers I recommend an Alagash or Delerium with a burger.

I REALLYYYY like this place. I've only been here a couple times and unfortunately it's been a while, but I still like it. It's a great place to take a group of friends and have laughs with some good beer!

The staff seemed OK to me, but then again I've gone during the day when it wasn't really very busy. The only reason why I give them one less star is because I didn't like what I ordered, but I sure did enjoy my boyfriends food!

    *WARNING* Rant Review

This is a review based purely off of my experience sitting at the bar. I think we may have started off sour with the bartender (who, btw, looks like Antonia from MADtv, awesome!) I would have totally been happy to have her as our bartender except one of our poor friends doesn't drink dark liquor and I soon found out we were very unlucky to have this bitch of a woman helping us. My poor friend kept asking for a lemon drop. And the bartender proceeded to tell her they carried everything but vodka (in a somewhat pretentious manner). A good (and friendly) bartender might say that although they don't carry vodka, they can try making something similar to a lemon drop, like a whiskey sour! But there was none of that with Antonia look alike. She was probably disgusted with my friend for even thinking of drinking a lemon drop. I decided to butt in and told my friend to try the Lindeman's Framboise Lambic, which are really sweet beers that taste like fizzy juice (gag).

So I ask the bartender, "what flavor Lambics do you have?" And this is where it gets annoying. She says they have the Lindeman's Framboise and instead of answering my question, opens a menu and jabs her finger at some space. Ok, I'm sorry for not looking at the menu for the choices you have.  But was the attitude necessary? Just tell me what the flavors are, sheesh! I proceed to check the menu for their flavors but I can't find it anywhere. Did she really just pointlessly throw a menu in my face? Oh helllllll no. I was seriously about to pull her over to give her a lecture on how she needs to go learn how to be a proper bartender, one who knows what drinks they have or at least go and find out when a customer asks! Or I could just punch her in the face.

But it's the holidays and I'm feeling obligated to be good to others (even if others are not) so I flagged her down and with a forced smile, said "I know this is silly but I can't find the Lambic ANYWHERE on the menu and I just wanted to know what flavors you carry. People usually have raspberry, peach,...." Of course she answers, "I think we carry the LINDEMAN"S FRAMBOISE in peach and raspberry, but let me check." Right sweetie, you were supposed to do that the first time around.

I gave it an extra star because they do carry a solid list of beers and although the lame bartenders out front do not know how to make a proper cocktail with their "spirits", they do have that tiny "speakeasy" in the back they lovingly call Nobel Experiment.

Moral of the story? For God's sake, don't even THINK about ordering a lemon drop here! And also, make sure to call drinks by their FULL FU*KING NAMES. Oh and this is a rant to save for next time if I choose to try their burgers: They do not serve ketchup at this fine establishment. I'm bringing Heinz over to kick their sorry ass.

I was visiting SD this past week and am so glad to have found Neighborhood! I stopped in a couple of times in my 3 days in town. I went for the beer and expected typical bar food, but I was very pleased to find that they had an awesome food menu as well. I recommend the Pork Belly Melt paired with a Russian River Blind Pig IPA or the beet burger (yes, beet burger) with the Craftsman IPA.

We had a wonderful time! I took my husband here for his Special Birthday after doing research online of who had Pliny the Elder.... so I feel awesome about making the right choice. We loved the food because it had lots of flavor (we ordered the black mussels, their burger, fries and onion rings and shared all) and everything was pretty yummy! Great beer selection, energy and ambiance! Looking forward to our next visit.

Went here on my birthday. Pliny on tap. Nice! Good selection of other beers too. All the food had lots of flavor. Nice staff, manager, and a great overall experience. Try it!

So chilling in SD one night. Sarah thought I would like this place so we grabbed a late dinner here. I didn't know what to expect but when I walked in:

    Dark hipster-ish atmosphere - check
    Large beer selection - check
    Outdoor seating - check
Cool modern artsy decor - check
    Sticky glowing balls - CHECK!

The menu was simple but had a large selection of food and spirits. Beer selections get me all giddy and excited! I wanted something light and ordered an Avery White Rascal which was smooth and refreshing.

For the meal, I got me some Steamed Pork Buns. It had braised pork, mushrooms, and veggies. There were 4 of them for $11. That's a great deal. These buns are the fat folded buns similar to the Bun Truck or Momofuku in NYC. All 4 came served on this silver zigzag plate. It kept the buns intact and separated.

The buns itself were bursting with delicious juices and flavors. The Sriracha on top gave it the Bruce Lee kick!

I really did like this place. The glowing balls on the table were cool, but they were also sticky............

    Nope, nope, nope.

I hated this place.  So.  Fucking.  Much.

I normally keep my cursing to a minimum in reviews, but this place was the fucking pits.

So, I'll start with the positives:
    1. The 777 burger came out spot on medium rare, tasted alright, and filled us up (we split it amongst the two of us--the other twosome in our group had already eaten).
    2. The beer selection is well curated and reasonably priced.

Now, onto the reasons this place resembles Dante's Inferno:
    1. The fries were limp, soggy, cold, and the accompanying aioli was foul.  Like, tasted curdled foul.  I'd rather be at Burger King.  And I hate Burger King with a passion.
    2. They couldn't make me an old fashioned.  Really, people?!  You say you don't have "equipment" to make a very basic, standard cocktail.  Really, no muddler or cocktail shaker in this overpriced, trendy piece of shit bar?  REALLY?!  Of course, your "secret" back room has the equipment, you say, but you can't be bothered to fucking muddle a cherry and orange and pour some bitters and bourbon into a glass?  I've had better at a dive bar for $6.  And yet you have this seemingly lovely selection of "spirits!"
    3. Service SUCKED.  Sorry, Susan.  You were horrible.  You took care of other tables who sat down 15+ minutes after us (what, were we not hipsterish enough?) before even offering us a drink order.  Your knowledge of bourbon and scotch sucked--and you seemed pissed when our table asked for a recommendation.  You wouldn't stop rolling your eyes.  You took forever for even the most minuscule of requests--what, getting a glass of water is too much effort?  I was actually APPALLED that we ended up tipping you 22%.  I'm a 20% tipper by habit, but you deserved 10% tops.  It took you 15 minutes to even get us our bill, for Christ's sake...and this isn't counting the fact that the hostess did 90% of the work serving our table.  Give her our tip, please.
    4. The clientele was a clusterfuck of the most obnoxious of hipster ilk, people trying too hard, and the bitch who cut in front of me in line for the bathroom.  By the way, idiots, you need to keep toilet paper stocked in the ONE STALL for the ladies' room and if I say "oh, no toilet paper!" you should replace it and not roll your eyes at me, you piece of shit group you call a staff.  As is, I was grabbing napkins from the hostess' stand and secretly hoping I clogged your toilets.  Assholes.
    5. Of the TWO cocktails they'll make you on the menu, the gin one I had was barely drinkable.  Barely.  The $11 cab I had after summoning gastrointestinal fortitude to swallow the gin mess tasted corked so I made the better half swill as I wasn't touching it.  Did anyone ask us if we were happy?  No.  Was there ever any inquiry as to our overall satisfaction?  Of course not.  Neighborhood is too fucking good for that, apparently.
    6. When it's mid-December, I don't care if it's San Diego: CLOSE YOUR FUCKING WINDOWS.  Your clientele will freeze!  It's a sad sign when the outside seating--with heat lamps--is more comfortable than inside.

Overall, this was, by far, the worst bar I've been to in San Diego.  I left visibly shaking from anger, disappointment, and sticker shock.  From the dirty (yes, dirty) atmosphere--does no one else notice the cockroaches?--to the horrible service to the awkwardly bitchy clientele...I see NO reason to come here again.  Which is why I guess we were able to score a 4 top table on a Saturday night with no issues.

I wholeheartedly say NO to this place.  And if you're smart, you will too.  Hype is one thing.  I can get that.  Standing behind a good product is another.  Neighborhood may have hype, but it has absolutely no shit to back it up except an okay burger...which, frankly, I'd rather have had at In-N-Out.  At least they have decent staff and consistency going for them.

If this review was based on food only... It would be a decent 4. We got a recommendation for this place from our concierge because it had "everything". We get here and realize that the menu looks good, but really different. The waitress takes our order and we wait... And wait... Finally, around 45 minutes later (party of 8) we get our food. Everything looked great but nothing came with much dressing/sauce. Also, they DO NOT have ketchup or ranch or any type of normal dressing/condiment. And their sodas come in a can- no refills here! After we got served, the waitress sat down in the restaurant and started eating! The lady who sat us was also on her phone! Overall, the food was good but not worth the time or service.

I'm an extremely picky eater and rarely give 5 star ratings. This was BY FAR one of the best burgers I've ever eaten..Period!!!

Recently came to SD and my son wanted a burger for lunch. Jumped on Yelp and saw all of the great reviews for Neighborhood. We came around 3pm on a Wed. so there was no wait and open seating. The menu had some pretty interesting options so it was hard to narrow down what we wanted. I opted for the 777 Burger because it had so much random stuff on it I figured it had to be good (baby spinach, plum tomato confit and bernaise sauce...random right?). Real talk - this burger was the truth!! It was cooked to absolute perfection. The ingredients were on point, meat was tasty and well prepared (perfectly medium) and the bun was deliciously warmed but not toasted. The PERFECT Burger! Aside from the insanely good burger, I also ordered a side of jalapeno mac & cheese...it was DELISH!

The overall decor of the restaurant is also really cute. It's a rather small restaurant so I can only guess how insane it must be on a weekend night. They have a ridiculous assortment of beers on tap and I love the artwork on the walls (see pic). Can't wait to come back!!!!

We got a late start and we knew we'd have to wait for a table.  But a reliable source recommended Neighborhood and we were up for an adventure.    Besides, who can resist a gastropub whose "mascot" is Jesus.  I mean, come on.

The food was very inventive and fun here.  WE started with deviled eggs (sinful!) and spicy corn dogs (fried goodness!).  Then I had the grilled cheese and soup...yummy, but as I like to say it's hard to eff up grilled cheese.  My friends seemed happy with their burgers as they chowed and licked their fingers.  Sweet potato fries?  Check.  Good stuff maynard.

Of course, who could write a review of this place without pointing out that they have an amazing array of craft beers.  A few wine selections, of which I had the South American white (good) and no cocktails to speak of.  Come here if you are interested in good food and beer and fun people watching.

My visit to SD couldn't have started better than with a visit to Neighborhood.

San Diego Beer Week was thinking about winding down as the final weekend approached. A lonely Thursday spent waiting for my friends to arrive on Friday was bolstered by the great staff and incredible drink selection at this swell little joint.

I happened in on Embrace Sour night, where a big chunk of the tap wall was occupied by pucker-worthy sour beers from around the globe. I booked my mini tour via beers from Maine, Brussels, CA, and who knows where else. I was stuffed to the gills with pizza from a previous stop, so I didn't consider food.

As I pondered the meaning of life as inspired by an Allagash collaborative brew, I watched douche after douche walk in and order drinks. In SD, this is as normal as a stoplight turning red or a wave breaking on the beach. HOWEVER, the awesome bartending staff, especially my new favorite keeper of the taps, Cora, sent a stream of sarcasm from the hydrant to put out that douche inflagration. Sample:

    Douche #` - "I want a vodka drink."
Cora - "We only serve drinks with flavor."
    Douche #2 - "Can I get a Crown Royal."
Cora - "We have a great bourbon selection in place of drinks like Crown."
    Douche #1 - "Yeah! Let's get Crown!"
Douche #2 - "Alright! We'll have 2 shots of Crown."
    Cora - "Please leave."

Following this exchange, I asked her if they train their staff on acceptable levels of sarcasm for dealing with customers, likable or not. She just laughed and asked if I was through talking. ("These go to 11.")

A fantastic place to drink quality beverages, and a great place to witness some true customer appreciation.

    3.5...

Came here after a failed lunch.

It was beer week, but they weren't serving the beer specials for the day until 6p.

    Ordered the following:
-Kennebec Fries ($4): Shoestring fries. They came out cold, but the fries inside the stack were still warm. I think it had been sitting out for a while.
-Crispy Tempura Shrimp Wrap - Organic Baby Greens/Cucumber/ Bean Sprouts/ Avocado/Sweet & Sour Mango Sauce ($8): This was surprisingly good. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it sure was tasty. This is a great meat alternative. You have the option of choosing grilled shrimp or tempura. I needed the crunch factor, so I opted for the tempura. Unfortunately, not much shrimp and waaay too much greenery. The veggies were fresh and the mango sauce had great flavor.
-777 Burger - Baby Spinach/Plum Tomato Confit/ Bearnaise Sauce ($11): Very good flavor! I loved the veggie and sauce pairings and how juicy it was! Def recommend!

The service was ok - friendly for the most part. It took a while for the food to come out although we were the only ones in the restaurant.

Small restaurant/bar. There is one big corner table that is reserved for larger parties, but otherwise opening seating. Bar seating, high tables, booths and outdoor patio seating available.

Yet another neighbor speakeasy/gastropub.  Cocktails were ok but $1-2 overpriced.  I had the sweet potatoe fries and steak tacos.  Both were average.  There's a "secret" bar in the back called Noble Experiment but it's reservation only and the hostess there was a bit snooty.  If you're in the neighborhood, stop by, but if not, there's no need to go out of your way.

Good but not amazing like I had hoped. For two we ordered the steak frites and neighborhood burger. We ordered a couple beers on tap which were really good - I love when gastropubs have Belgian beers on tap. We weren't really sure which sauces to order, but one of our servers just gave us 3 to try. It's a nice place to visit if you're in the area, but not sure if it's worth the pain of finding a damn parking spot in the area. Not too busy when we entered on a Friday night.

It's been close to 2 years since my last review of this place. I love this place and I'm glad that they're still operating. A lot of my favs in the East Village had closed down due to the recession.

Couple weeks ago, me and a friend were sitting in the patio area facing G St (?). We were minding our own business when a homeless lady possibly suffering from dementia started pestering my friend. My friend took it all with a sense of grace and tried her best not to engage or encourage an argument from this homeless person.

After a minute or two of this nonsense, I asked the bartender to have the Mgr on duty come out. The Mgr on duty handled the situation with the utmost professionalism. In my place of business, I have to deal with unruly homeless people. So I don't really care to do it when I'm out in public and enjoying a meal.

The Mgr on duty politely asked the homeless lady to leave less the cops being called out on her. Thankfully the homeless lady left w/out any further issue and me and my friend enjoyed the rest of our meal with a complimentary shot!!!

I forgot the Mgr's name, but she handled the situation very well. I'll always be a fan of neighborhood....
