I've lived across from this place for almost two years. The coffee is always amazing but the sandwiches are equally as good. One of my favorites is the prosciutto.
You can also text your order to have your coffee waiting! -
Review from Tajira M.
I've been hiding out a lot lately, since I'm taking the bar exam in just a few weeks. I've haunted pretty much any coffee shop that offers wifi, trying to keep myself in a mode of focus and motivation around other people that have to study or get some work done.
I came across this place thanks to some really great reviews, and I'm so glad that the reviews led me here - this is a great study spot! Nice, big tables, no problems with outlets, not crazy full, and yummy drinks and panini. I didn't notice any cleaning issues; quite the contrary, all of the tables were wiped down and they swept several times during my visit. Lots of locals seem to visit, and no one seemed to be displeased either with their order or the service.
I started my day with a caramel latte, and I always feel a little special to have a design in my drink's foam. Silly, I know, but it's a nice touch. I've also been on a chai latte kick lately, thanks to someone I met recently, and their chai is pretty awesome. Not overbearingly sweet, but also not thick and powdery, their chai latte was hot, smooth, and had decent spice. I think this might be my new favorite chai, honestly.
Since I spent the day here studying, I also had lunch -- a grilled cheese panini. Nice, crispy bread, gooey cheese, a little spinach and tomato salad on the side. The panini would have been awesome with some roasted tomato soup or bisque, but I really can't complain.
They use WEBbeams for their internet service, so you do have to get a new wifi code every 2 hours. That's a little irritating if you're planning to work most of the day, but it's pretty simple. You just walk up and ask for a fresh code, and they hand you a piece of paper the size a message from a fortune cookie. It helps to keep that session timer open so that you're not surprised when the internet shuts down on you.
Seriously, try the chai! -

Please clean!!
Every time I'm here the place is a mess...and everything is sticky...
It's really starting to bug me...
Coffee shops need to be CLEAN.
I think they really need to do a better job wiping tables and putting newpapers/magazines away and moping the floors.
You gotta clean after your customers!!
Corporately run businesses like Starbucks and Coffee Bean knows the importance of keeping a tidy store...but small coffee shops like this don't seem to know that...
I think this might be the reason why I always take my coffee to go.
Nothing makes me want to sit there.
I don't know if I'll come here anymore when I'm in this neck of the woods...i'm starting to doubt their cleaning skills on the espresso machine and everything else they use back there.
And now I look at my coffee suspiciously.

I've been meaning to write a review for neighborhood grinds for awhile now, but today I had such a great experience that I couldn't put it off anymore. The baristas there are, as a rule, friendly, outgoing AND great at their jobs. Their dark chocolate mochas are delicious and their iced coffee is always perfect--never too watery or too strong (how do they do it?!). Plus, prosciutto paninis.
The thing that they do really, really well is treat their regulars like they're valued. I go there an embarrassing amount and often stay for a really long time doing work, but they never make me feel unwelcome, or like I'm taking up space. AND they remember me each time I come in. It doesn't sound like such a big deal, but it makes a huge difference in my coffee experience. -

Long Beach, CA
My cousin and I were looking for some good coffee and we stumbled across this nice little coffee shop. Since it was our first time here, we asked what their popular hot and blended drinks were. My cousin got the Dark Chocolate Mocha (hot) and I got the Triple Chocolate Delight (blended). I tried some of her dark chocolate mocha, which was pretty strong, but she loved it. I'm not that much of a dark chocolate fan, so I figured I wouldn't like it as much. On the other hand, my triple chocolate delight was delicious!! I have never had a drink that tasted so good. They topped it with chocolate whipped cream and even had chocolate pieces in the drink.
Too bad I don't live in this area, but I would definitely come back here if I were! -

I am a total coffee addict and former barista. I've scouted coffee locales all over the U.S., and I have to say that Neighborhood Grinds is some of the best drip coffee I've ever had. I would put it up there with Intelligentsia (CA), Diedrich Coffee (CA), Vivace (Seattle, WA), Stumptown (Seattle, WA), and Victrola (Seattle, WA). The staff is always really nice and welcoming, there's free wi-fi for customers, and local artists on the walls. If you're in the South Bay, you must go here!

Another aimless day landing wherever the wind blows me left me finding myself here at Neighborhood Grinds, a modest sized independent coffeehouse with eight square metallic cafe tables accompanied by wood chairs reminiscent of grade school and three similar tables outdoors. A high-back bench suitable for 4 is pressed up against the wall adorned with framed photographic art pieces available for purchase. Indie-Rock resonates throughout the humble coffeehouse at a medium level, comfortable enough for conversing, reading a book, or playing one of the supplied board games.
The overall feel of this cafe would be summed up in this statement: Pre-corporate intimate Starbucks.
A variety of eats are available in the form of traditional sandwiches, paninis and baked goods. Lattes are embellished with well executed art. Unfortunately, I cannot comment further than the super friendly service and caffe latte I ordered.
I didn't take advantage of their "free wifi." Free wifi is time limited and requires purchase. Their wifi is monetized, so if you choose not to purchase anything from the coffeehouse, you can pay for access.
Large 2% Caffe Latte: 3/5

The barista claimed they roast their own beans. If you would have blindfolded me, I would have guessed this cup was a Starbucks caffe latte based solely on flavor. Neighborhood Grinds' roast is darker/stronger and is more bitter than sweet, yet remains smooth.
If you live in the Redondo Beach area, Neighborhood Grinds is possibly your best bet for a decent caffe latte. Being an independent, they have their advantages over Starbucks or The Coffee Bean and Tea leaf, offering a slightly better quality product at similar price points. The ability to text in your order is a nice option.
Parking is free and shared among the dozen or so businesses in the strip mall.Listed in: Thanks a Latte!

Review from Ed L.
Broke up with my Starbucks because I wasn't being treated right. Was driving around, feeling sad, needing my coffee fix. I was about to go back to Starbucks, but remembered Neighborhood Grinds. Drove by here for a couple of years, and was so fixated on Starbucks, that I didn't pay attention to the special, beautiful coffee house right next to me.
Neighborhood Grinds is spacious, inviting, with nice dark laminate hardwood flooring, and a very relaxed atmosphere. The coffee was very good, although the medium size is about the size of a tall at Starbucks, but it is slightly cheaper. We also tried the mini cupcakes which were delicious. Most of all, the service was very friendly and attentive. You can text in your order so it's ready and they have curbside pick up as well.
Happy. Found my new neighborhood coffee shop. Starbucks who? -

I usually like my cup of Joe just plain with creamer. Recently, I've been on a cappuccino run. I got so hooked on Paper and Plastik cafe's cappuccino which they use Intelligentsia's coffee but they are so far away from me.
DON'T" even try to order a cappuccino at Starbucks! It tastes nothing like a cappuccino and just leave you angry for spending $4 on a drink you're going to trash.
Neighborhood Grinds has great coffee and recently to my findings, EXCELLENT TASTY CAPPUCCINO!! I love this place! They have quality coffee at affordable prices. They have free wifi and a very cozy place to chill. Lucky me, it's just a few blocks away where I live!!
They also have free curbside pickup. Text your order to 310-463-0844, and you can pick it up at the curb without getting out of your car.( Call them for more information)1 Previous Review: Show all »

Wow I feel so left behind I just recently started going to this place and I'm addicted. I actually just recently started drinking cappuccinos instead of tea so it's relatively new to me. However I went to starbucks and got the same thing and it wasn't nearly as good.
They don't offer a large cappuccino for some odd reason so I order the large latte with an extra shot and ask them to make it like a cappuccino.
I also love the doughnut muffins and the panini grilled cheese. -

I've been here twice, and the coffee and food is pretty good. I just doubt I'll venture back here much in the future, the interior is just SO dingy. It feels like the lobby of some run down youth hostel...nothing seems very clean, the furniture seems very cheap, everything about this place has a very loosely thrown together feel.
I'm nowhere near a neat freak, but I'm usually pretty anxious to leave as soon as I walk in here. -

Final Decision: Cool local coffee shop
Found this place off of yelp app as a meeting spot for a first date. Got here was immediately greeted by one of the barista and was introduced to the menu. Ended up grabbing a chai tea while waiting for my date. Simple space design, roomy tables and study space and the noise level was average. Sat and met with the date and chatted for hours uninterrupted. Kinda wished I had a place like this around my home within walking distance. Solid place for coffee. -
Review from Nathan W.
Fantastic chocolate whip cream on mochas, good strong espresso with proper golden creme, that should be enough to keep you coming back.
They open at 6:30 in the morning, plus you can text your orders in advance & it's waiting for you, still perfectly hot.
Never really hung out here, or ate more than an everything bagel (which was good), but this place tops any Starbucks for sure! I used to work in coffee myself, & we all need to boycott that shit. They are part of the problem! -
Review from Denise D.
For the neighborhood, i think it has the best vibe and coffee. It is certainly much more fragrant and reasonable to all the coffee chains. I love the fact that they have books and newspapers for all ages. So don't hesitate to bring your kids or laptops as they have toys and cables. Family friend I would say.
Their pastries are on discount after 8pm. They looked real delicious but i didn't try any. I was mesmerized by the latte. It was very well foamed, hot, robust and sweet.
Service is great. Very amiable and carefree people. You guys have awesome taste of music too!

This is a cute little coffee shop where you get free wifi, relax or play games with your friends while drinking your coffee. I wasn't a fan of the coffee but what I did like is if you ask you get a cute little heart on your coffee...

Small coffee shop, expected much more, but not all that as the reviews say so. Free wifi, quiet, in a crowded lil shopping center. Their panini I would have to say are slightly overpriced at over $7, the coffee is good, i must admit.

If you're driving west on Artesia, it might be worth your while to pass Starbucks to get to Neighborhood Grinds. Nice, quiet atmosphere, and the coffee was great - I ordered a white chocolate mocha. The coffee had a bit of a swirl at top and tasted great. The staff was diverse and friendly, and it felt great to get out of the 'coffee chain' experience for something a bit more humble and charming.
They also provide board games for all ages, 2-hour free internet access with your order, and outlets here and there for your laptops. I will definitely return here :) -

Three of us had just finished having lunch at Yanagi and were walking around the neighborhood. Two shots of sake proved to be too much for me and I was wobbling about, trying to keep up with the other two. I saw Neighborhood Grinds and decided I needed my daily caffeine fix to help wake me up.
I ordered a medium vanilla latte which was accompanied by a perfect little leaf in foam art. Quite delicious, even if I prefer my lattes a tad less sweeter.
On our way out, we noticed a local artist working on a mandala-like drawing. After looking through his pad, I scored the most recent drawing for 20 bucks. Yeah!
Neighborhood Grinds is a nice coffee shop to hang out in or to do some work. It's great that they offer sandwiches, shaved ice, and baked goods made with love by a baker that comes in every morning. They also take orders via text! -

So today was my first time here.
It looks like a Starbucks, but what sets them apart are the interesting blends of coffee drinks.
GET THIS!!!! The Raspberry White Chocolate Blend was freaking delicious!!! However, I wasn't crazy about their Hazelnut Iced Coffee. Also, the barista writes the drink in cursive on the cup, giving it a signature charm.
I wouldn't mind coming back here with friends or by myself.
I'm apprehensive about trying to order by text because I'm not quite familiar with their menu yet.
I think their prompter to display their menu was probably broken because it was not legible. It looked like their prompter may have fell or something. -

Great local coffee shop. Good coffee, friendly staff, nice, relaxed atmosphere. Plus they make a mean panini for lunch.
And if you find yourself in the mood for an ice blended drink and get the Triple Chocolate Delight, be sure to get it with whipped cream. Normally I don't like whipped cream on my drinks, but with this one, it's chocolate whipped cream, and it makes a huge difference. Without it, it's technically a double chocolate delight. -

Can't speak on their coffee but their shaved ice is bomb! For $3 you get a mountain scoop of ice infused with up to 3 flavors of your choice. It sure was refreshing to have on a hot day.
The shop has a great ambiance, great for locals to chit chat, study, or read a newspaper. -
Review from Lucy P.
I was so excited to see a sign that said "shave ice". My hubby pulled right into the parking lot after I asked him to stop here. I ordered a shave ice with watermelon, strawberry, and lime syrups. The texture of the ice was similar to a "sno cone" and the syrups did not have too much flavor. After several bites, I threw it away (I'm not one to keep eating something because I don't want to waste food).
This is what bothered me most about this place. Although the barrista was friendly, she did not have her hair pulled back at all. Her hair was several colors (That's ok since I remember the "punk rock" era) and it was not restrained either with a "pony tail" nor a hat. For that, I am docking 1 star.
My favorite "shave ice" in the world so far is from "Get Shaved". After eating one from the said establishment, you will not want one from anywhere else.Listed in: "Coffee, tea or..... "

What is a local coffee shop?
A local coffee shop, to me, is a place where you love to go at any time of the day. The people are friendly and coffee is brewed with passion.
Neighborhood grinds is one of those places. No matter what time of day I have come in here the service is always awesome. I usually just get their black coffee. No need to put anything in it. They also have some amazing teas and I really love their bagels.
If you enjoy coffee and a great environment, stop on by to my neighborhood and visit my Local coffee shop.Listed in: Coffee!!!!!!!!!

I came in again today and am impressed every time. I never realized it, but they have a text or call in your coffee number! That is really neat! One of these days I will have to give it a try. I'd only suggest it if you are in a hurry.
I was waiting for my coffee and saw the guy behind the counter being very careful making my drink. As he was pouring my drink into the cup, he was going ever so slow to make sure it would not spill and fill to the top. Too many times at other coffee joints (starbucks, etc) they pour my coffee 3/4 full carelessly.

So I was in the area for a training and didn't know the area very well. I actually Yelped this place and decided to give it a try. It's very easy to find and parking wasn't a problem.
I have decided to write a review about the food at Neighborhood Grinds. I had the Turkey Cranberry sandwich. I have to say it was pretty good. I liked how everything in the sandwich was tasted very fresh and instead of french fries or chips, it was accompanied with a spinach salad. The sandwich had a lot of meat inside and the cranberry spread looked like it was a combination of cranberries and cream cheese. I would definitely get it again.
I gave them 4 stores because I felt as though the service could have been a little faster. We were on a time crunch and seemed to be waiting awhile before we saw any food. -
Review from Greg D.
Ok...I really love this place now. I always get a house blend coffee in the morning before work.
Why I think it's better than Starbucks:
1) WAY less crowded. Sometimes there's no line at all.
2) Better tasting coffee in my opinion. It's got a boldness to it without being overpowering - but still wakes you up.
3) It's about 20 cents cheaper on average per size.
I like supporting a local coffee house as opposed to a big conglomerate. Stop in if you can...you won't regret it!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Cute, local coffee shop with a warm feeling of love and tenderness inside. It's super clean with great service. I had the prosciutto panini with a good cup of Joe. I decided to sit outside on the patio for my brunch on a lazy sunday afternoon. The sun was hitting my fair skin as I chomped my panini down with delicious harmony of prosciutto, lettus and ..pepper? yum! Everything was great! I give them a harsh three stars for ambiatic purposes only. i wish the patio area was given more love. ...the dead plants in planters and the bare fences that reaked car fumes and loud noise from the street next door was a total turn off. i recommend lush greenery with lots and lots of plants to cover the ugly street and fumes. That patio has SOOO much potential ...

Neighborhood Grinds is a godsend to the coffee drinking world of North Redondo Beach. They might have one of the best cups of coffee I've ever had. Their baristas display such attention to detail in each and every cup of coffee they pour. Plus they do latte art, how cool is that?
The vibe at Neighborhood Grinds is casual and laid back. Free wifi means it is easy to enjoy a good cup of coffee while getting some work done. Plus, the staff is SUPER friendly. What more could you ask for? -

Stopped by here on the recommendation of a friend. Had a very good cup of iced coffee.
They also have some sandwiches & shaved iced but, I only had the coffee.
If you like non blended iced coffee that is sweetened & creamy you must come here. Literally the best cup of iced coffee I've ever had. Creamy yet refreshing. Mildly chocolatey yet no mocha. Yummmm. (I usually drink my coffee black too.)
Ask Phil for the "Best Iced Coffee." It isn't on the menu. :) -

I love this place. I am a regular and come as often as possible.
Here is the best reason to come here (other than amazing coffee, tea, sandwiches and ambience)-you can text your order in. I text my order in all the time. As a mom with two kids this is a huge helping hand. I just text my drinks and food, tell them my name so they can debit my gift card, tell them I'm going to be at the curb and voila, a barista brings me coffee, can help me recharge my card, and I don't have to stress out parking, getting two kids out of car seats, wait in line with impatient kids, wait for coffee while trying to entertain kids...you get it right? This place is the bomb and makes me a happy mama.
And it helps that their coffee rocks! Try the Tomo green tea on ice!Listed in: My Neighborhood, Don't Support Corporate Coffee

For the anit-Starbucks, this place is for YOU!
This place has a good selection of coffee, sandwiches, pastries, and even Hawaiian shaved ice!
I got the iced white chocolate mocha and delicious turkey panini! Perfect place to spend a couple of hours working or studying. There is a 2 hour limit on the wifi password, but I'm sure if you purchase another item, they'll be happy to give you another password.
They even have a some boardgames like Scrabble and Cranium, I guess when you want to take a break from your work/study. There is plenty of power outlets AND Plenty of parking in the parking lot! -

What to say, I feel lucky to live within walking distance of this coffee shop...it is the best coffee I've found since moving to the South Bay!
They roast their own house blend, and if that was not enough to entice you they use a French press (!!) to make their coffee! The result is a very smooth cup of coffee.
I am not the type to order some foo foo soy-hazelnut-vanilla-cinnamon-white-mocha drink, so if you are just looking for a delicious cup of coffee then go support this Neighborhood Grinds and be sure to leave a tip for the friendly Baristas!

I used to frequently come when I lived in Torrance. It's been a wonderful place to stop by and study (FREE super-fast WI-FI) with GREAT coffee and YUMMY sandwiches and pastries. I came so often that Fred, the owner, already knew me by name as well as his Right Hand Man, Phillip!
I've moved a little further away, but I do stop by when I can. They still have the same great service and declicious food. I miss you guys! -

After trying most of their drink menu I am hooked. I can't stand going to starbucks or coffee bean, their water downed crap is nothing compared to the stuff served here. I still prefer a latte, they make them strong and not really sweet, and so you can still taste a good amount of espresso. The dark chocolate mocha is really rich and bitter, so I only recommend if you really like dark chocolate. The iced white chocolate latte is my favorite. I haven't tried any of their food or breakfast items, but that will be next. Besides catalina coffee down by Redondo pier, I think neighborhood grinds serves the best espresso in town. They are also quick with making your drinks, and you can text ahead if your in a rush. Finally, a place that serves coffee I can enjoy; although they can still work on making their interior a little more warm and comfy.

What a nice, quiet coffee shop in the hustle and bustle of this area! Ample amounts of natural light inside, ample amount of seating, and super friendly service! The girl working here when I visited was so sweet, and I saw that she actively asked customers if they wanted a wi-fi access code and explained the instructions for logging in. I ordered an iced cafe au lait, and while it didn't suck, there was way more 'lait' than 'cafe'--my biggest coffee-related pet peeve. I'd definitely still come back if I'm in the area though. The baked goods, shaved ice, and sandwiches all sound very delicious.
P.S. Props to whoever compiled the music playlist during my visit. Awesome taste in music, you! :) -
