After finding that the Barking Dog doesn't serve brunch - or at least they didn't the day my friend and I tried to go - we decided to drop into this little cafe on 70th in Ballard. What a find! I had never seen this place before, and I now can't wait to go back.
The dishes were mostly Moroccan-influenced with lots of veggies and great spices. We were torn between several options and ended up splitting the grilled vegetable and potato dish with gorgonzola, honey, and cinnamon (I can't remember the name of the dish), as well as another dish that was a scramble of vegetables, lentils, flat bread strips, and eggs.
The combination of honey, gorgonzola, cinnamon, potatoes, cauliflower, and carrots in the first dish was incredible. I can't wait to try it again. The second dish was great, but it didn't hold a flame to the other.
Other options that looked great were the orange-cinnamon french toast and the omelet with dates, brie, and pears. The lunch menu looked really interesting as well.
The service was a little spacey at times, but they were very friendly. We just ended up with a slightly more leisurely Sunday breakfast than we had planned - not at all unwelcome!
Something to be aware of: They only accept cash or check.

Mmmm, I dream of the Treed Salad at the Neighborhood Cafe! What's that? You don't know what Treed Salad is? Neither did I until I stumbled upon this adorable cafe in "upper Ballard." Treed is a super-tasty fry-up of flatbread, veggies, lentils, and maybe some raisins, along with delicious Moroccan spices, served either over eggs (breakfast!) or romaine (lunch!). Everything else on the very affordable menu is delicious, too, including the amazing coffee cakes and the other scrambles and sandwiches.
Service can be hurried at times--it's usually the owner and her daughters (and their friends, perhaps)--but they're always funny and friendly. Try it!

I love this little cafe ! They serve a wonderful breakfast, with a Moroccan flair. I've eaten here several times and always come away satisfied. I love having the Treed with marquez, a slightly spicy lamb sausage. It's an amazing concoction of lentils, veggies and Moroccan spices, with strips of fried flat bread; especially when you top it off with a couple of poached eggs. But today, they were out of the lamb sausage. I was crest fallen, but quickly rebounded, opting for the corn beef hash. I love corned beef hash , but I'm always wary of how it's made. I'm not fond of having hash out of the can, pulverized and greasy. At the Neighborhood cafe, they smother a heaping helping of sliced corned beef, in fried potatoes and onions. Absolutely delicious! If you love homemade coffee cake , delicious gigundo cinnamon rolls, and a great cup of coffee, you can't go wrong! They have recently chance their name to the Treed Cafe, but the great service remains the same, you don't have to beg to have your cup of coffee refilled. JR
