Review Highlights
I personally love Nation's. I can't say their pies are very good (their whipped cream is especially disappointing), but their strawberry tart things are amazing!!
I'm not a big meat eater, so I usually grab their Garden Burger (with grilled onions--a must!). It's awesome. One of the best veggie burgers out there, if not THE best. And it's only $3 and some change! Very affordable. Their fries also make the trip worth while, especially when you get them right out of the fryer. My hubby always gets the hamburger and he loves them. I've tried the cheeseburger and it's one of the few meaty foods I can really, genuinely enjoy eating. I've also had their hot dogs (their Giant Dogs are especially delicious!) and their grilled cheese sandwiches are OUTSTANDING. They come with cheese, their special sauce, onions, tomatoes, etc. They're absolutely amazing. Really. Their BLT (bacon, lettuce, tomato) sandwiches are also incredible. I can honestly say I've never had anything disappointing at this place. Even their pies are good (just not amazing). A must try is their ice cream. I don't know how they do it, but their ice cream is SO milky and creamy and delicious. It's not just vanilla ice cream, it has this extra special Nation's kick to it. It's awesome. I love to get their vanilla shakes and come home and mix in some Bailey's Irish Cream into it and make the BEST Bailey's shake out there.
OH, and their breakfasts are equally delicious! If we're running late, we always run to Nation's and grab one of their breakfasts. Their french toast is outstanding as are their pancakes. Their hashbrowns are equally impressive and they serve eggs, ham, sausage, bacon, etc as well.
HIGHLY recommended.
Not many spots to review in Moraga, but Nation's does deserve a nod. I know it is a chain, but this spot is hella good. I guess there probably is a lot of mayo on their burgers, but I actually have a bigger issue with the onions! While these are small things, they're nothing that can't be fixed by simply removing it from your burger beforehand.
Why 5 stars? I love how you can order breakfast all day, the burgers are solid as well as inexpensive, and finally the pies! Don't overlook the pies when you eat from here either. From the custard to the chocolate pie, I don't know if you can really go wrong in my opinion. Oh, also must mention it is one of the places in Moraga that stays open slightly later than you would expect.
Ah Nations Moraga, a fine establishment that I often visited while growing up in Moraga. For the most part, everything about Nation's has stayed the same, the food, the people, the atmosphere. I love it.
Nation's was one of the first hamburgers that i've ever had, my dad got it for me and it was huge! If I remember correctly, everything was perfect about the meal, the burger was top notch and the fries were phenomenal. I suggest Nations to anyone that is craving a good old fashioned hamburger.
Tips and Pointers:
-Hamburgers at Nation's are amazing and my personal favorite
-Breakfast at Nations comes a close second
-Parking is plentiful
-Prices are reasonable
-It's in my hometown so I have to give as much love as possible to it

I've never had SO MUCH MAYONAISE slathered onto a burger before, GEEZ!!!
minus star for annoying teenagers.
Burgers are excellent and made with real, fresh ingredients.
You do need to be in the "mood" for a Nation's style burger. Very different than a restaurant burger, In-n-Out, or Georges, they're served with copious amounts of something resembling mayo but that I am convinced is a special sauce with a mayo base and requisite amounts of trans fats, cholesterol and a sweet punch to it.
So copious, that the burgers are big, messy and slippery. It's just part of the experience to pick up your Nations 1/3 pound burger and, when you squeeze the buns (heh), the contents literally squirt out the other side at whomever is sitting across from you.
Pies also are excellent.
-1 star for frequent boneheadedness on call-in/take-out orders; people call in so the food will be ready - don't wait to drop the fries into the grease until AFTER I get there, for chrissakes!
Yipppeee Nations - our Friday night ritual in Moraga! Burgers are great and affordable - just order light spread or you will probably get clogged arteries :). Fries are yummy, plenty to share in one order. Pies and shakes are good too!
Employees are cool and make the visit enjoyable! Just be careful on game nights - lots of kids take over the place! Not bad kids though, things stay good, just loud. :)
I will love this place until the day I die. Forget In-n-Out, THIS is the place I miss when I go out of town. The burgers are big and messy and sloppy, but so flavorful and delicious. The fries are larger cut and are always steaming hot...
Actually, I'm gonna stop myself there. Same food that all Nation's have, but for some reason, it tastes SO much better at the Moraga location. Must be all the love the friendly owners add to it.
EDIT 2/18/07: I have terrible news! Apparently my beloved Nation's was the victim of an electric fire last weekend. Shed a few tears as they spend the next few months rebuilding it.
But then again, now you have a reason to go to Orinda: a somewhat subpar Nation's resides in the center of that "village" or whatever they're calling themselves these days.
This place is so baller...
Grilled cheese, grilled onions and pickes, hold the mayo
Garden burgers are really good too.
Don't eat the cows. please.
OK Burger, Not great. But then again I forgot to order with lite mayo. Once I wiped off the 1/2 inch of mayo it wasn't bad. Still I like to do my own condiments (ala George's in WC). I'd rate them about 4th behind George's, Lawrences (Alamo), Kinders (Danville)
The best Nations I ever ate at hands down. There was never a long line, never bad service and my food was always hot - fries crispy. This place was always full of families coming from a St. Mary's game, or families who lived in the small village town of Moraga, or a senior citizen couple having dinner. My husband and I used to live a block away from this place and frequented them quite a bit especially when I was pregnant with my daughter or after I did a couple loads of laundry at the wash house a few stores down. This place has great burgers, chili fries and of course pies. I'm really sad to hear that this Nations Giant Hamburgers suffered an electric fire. i'm sure when its rebuilt - it will be better than ever.
This is my favorite Hamburger joint....period!!!! Simple and carefully made with quality ingredients. I remember the days from College were I could drive down the street with my roommates and get a good quality meal here at Nation's. Their Pie's are pretty damn good too. You'll never have a bad experience here at Nation's...Never!!!
good food but slow service.
