The National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium is packed with lots of different exhibits both indoor and outdoor. If you are interested in learning more about the Mississippi River then this is the place to go. The weather was pretty bad on the day that I visited so I wasn't able to get good photos of the boats outside but it is definitely located in a very picturesque location.

It is a great place but unfortunately what I remember most was a little girl staring at my mom like she had just seen a ghost. Her expression really freaked me out and this is coming from someone that has experienced things like this numerous times while traveling this country. One would think in this day and age that people would have more exposure to minorities if not in person at least on TV.

The Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium is an attempt to place the mighty Mississip in some historical, cultural, and ecological context. It features everything you'd expect - some large fish tanks, some interactive exhibits, a gift shop and a small restaurant. I most enjoy the tanks, which contain some finned creatures of truly impressive size (and which will make you think twice about taking a dip in the river!). I also like an interactive exhibit that allows you to fly down the river from a bird's eye perspective, starting at the headwaters in northern Minnesota and going to the Louisiana delta.

Adjacent to the museum is the William H. Black, an old 1934 steamer which dredged the Missouri River. Definitely worth seeing, and if you're really adventurous, you can even stay on it overnight! If that's not your cup of tea, the Diamond Jo Casino is also next door.

3.5 - 4.0 - Nice small town aquarium. Great exhibit about the Mississippi River and River boats! Nice gifts in the gift shop. Had fun shopping in there. The exhibit was very unique tracing the rivers origin and how it spreads through the US and North America.  Check it out while you are in town.
