Nathan & Co is what I call a "stuff store". They have tons of things you didn't know you needed, and a great selection of small gifts and cool cards. They also have a section with cool baby items if you know any new parents. Make sure to check out the kitchen utensils upstairs, and their new second location on College Ave.

SO. CUTE. And SO. MUCH. FUN.
I can easily spend hours looking around here. Its a small shop, but there can be so many interesting and funny finds ("Time Flies" wall clock shaped like a swatter, anyone?). Don't forget to check out the second floor with cool kitchen stuff.
In the end I only ended up with one item that the huzbeau spotted, which will remain a secret. Its that awesome, and I don't want you to be as awesome as me. Hee Hee! -

i use to worry about growing up...
as the jingle goes "i don't want to grow up i'm a toys R us Kid", and i use to worry that if i did... well you know the rest. then i came across this store during an afternoon stroll.
yup! a stroll. that's the sound of growing up. but no worries big kids at heart because this place is where big kids can go and shop. a toy store for grown ups with plenty of things that will surely catch your eye and would want to go and play with.
from clever cards- like the hammer head shark one that says "stop. hammer time" to the spray paint can that's actually for mixing drinks this place is amazing! they also have mugs for scrabble lovers. too bad they didn't have a J10 for me...
i can't wait to go back!
until next time
cheers! -

CUTEST LITTLE GIFT SHOP EVER!
I bought some Christmas gifts here. They have so many unique things that I couldn't even begin to describe. They have a bunch of random items, from a build your own straw kit to a cannabis cook book.
I bought a really cool cappicino set. It's beautiful and the best part is that it's stackable. The prices are reasonable and the staff will even wrap your item for you if it's a present. They pretty much carry everything in this store for a unique gift. It's a perfect place to get a gift for someone who has everything.
They have hilarious books and cards as well. I love the kitchen area upstairs. It's filled with cool little gadgets. Everything is just great. This is definitely a gem in Oakland. -

1.NOT a friendly place for the disabled - you will not be able to get a wheelchair through or even into this place, and 2. Mostly mediocre and cute-sy stuff. The place is so packed, it's hard to move. It's a good place to waste money on useless but expensive stuff parading to a less educated clientele as "design" and even art. For stuff like this, you'd do much better, get more and higher quality for your $, and do more for the Bay area art community by going to SF MoMA and buying same type of things at the museum store. No, really - I am serious.

This place has the cutest gifts and trinkets. I loved stopping in here once a week. They always seem to get new stuff in!
They sell cool ice cube trays, salad tongs, birthday cards...such random stuff but all so adorable and trendy. Best place to get a birthday present for the person who has everythinggg. -

I was walking by on my way to another store & saw the window. It immediately pulled me in. This place has one of a kind, whimsical finds. I felt like I was in a treasure chest of funny. Where else can you find a floating mustache pen?
They do have pretty items as well as some practical. This IS the spot to find local, amusing gifts that noone already owns. Bonus: the upstairs loft has all kinds of great things for chefs. My fav: The guitar cheese grater. I can imagine myself alone in my kitchen grating my cheddar singing Cradle of Love. -

I heart Nathan & Co
This is the place to go when you are unique gift shopping, there is something for everyone, from babies to dogs.
They turned the upstairs loft into a Chefs paradise for all your kitchen needs.
The people that work there are really helpful and even point out all the new stuff they have. Definitely one of my favorite stores in Oakland. -

This place rocks. It has a fun, eclectic collection of great gifts. Some are extremely affordable, and some are a bit expensive, but if you hunt around, you'll surely find something good for the random friend. Plus, they have oakland t-shirts :) I'm a local - what can I say?
I was so excited that Nathan and his original little shop did well enough to expand to the larger space. Congrats!!Listed in: Fun Eclectic Gifts

A friend of mine told me about this place. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! It's been 2 weeks since I last went in, and I'm going back again today to get my Nathan Co. fix! They have the cutestest things, and there are sooo many things in there, I get so excited that I feel like my eyes can't keep up with everything that's in here!
I LOVE THIS PLACE! -

Love love love this cute store. You can find cool quirky things here for all your cool quirky friends. As a pill pusher, I found the large tin capsule amusing. I now use it to hold change for feeding meters (or the occasional drive-thru when I don't have bills on hand & don't want to use my debit card and the cars ahead of me are moving at a snail's pace).
Support this neighborhood store! Everyone here is always super nice and helpful and won't hover over you if you're just browsing. If you like products from sites such as ThinkGeek or UncommonGoods, this is the store for you.
Where else can you find a cotton drawstring laundry bag with $$ $$ $$ all over it (just like in the cartoons!!). -

This is a great place for hostess gifts. There's a variety of cards for all occasions. They also sell really interesting coffee table books. I love going in here to just look around.
Minus one star for the customer service. Although they are nice and helpful, I feel like they don't treat everyone the same. I've gotten both very attentive service when I go in the store after work but on a weekend, just in a jeans and a tee shirt, I feel like I'm looked over a little. It's not enough for me to stop shopping at Nathan&Co.
I do really love everything that they sell there. Definitely a place to check out if you are on Piedmont Ave. -

I live near Piedmont Ave., I like strolling, I like perusing shops...Nathans might be a problem for me. I have never gone in here and NOT walked out with something. If you are a fan of Rockridge Home, which I VERY much am, then you are a fan of Nathans and Co. Great for gifties and treasures for the home. Dont miss the lil room upstairs...always jems up there too. Bring your wallet (it can be pricey), but you'll leave with a Nathan & Co bag and a smile.

I have spent a lot of money at N&CO. They stock unique and cool stuff... from well designed household items like pillows, art, kitchen-ware, etc... to books, and drapery, etc...
and it is all cool.
BUT,
there have been a couple of times I've gone in here and been treated as if I didn't belong.
I especially found it unwelcoming to my son, who was super-excited about some of the toys they had on display. When he picked one up and played with it, someone behind the counter said - under her breath, but loud enough for me to hear - that she wished we would leave the store.
We left, and I won't shop here any longer.
3 stars for having a nice collection of stuff...
too bad the experience ruined it for me. -

I don't have a lengthy review of this business, it simply is not necessary. Nathan & Co is the perfect place to go for a unique and thoughtful last minute gift. I have never been able to walk in and just look. I always leave with something, usually for others, but I have found nice things for myself as well.
This store consistently has a wide variety of delightful little trinkets, decorative items, hilarious cards and interesting books. It is a one-stop gift shop with a wide spectrum of quality gift items. The staff is helpful and fun without being invasive, and they will kindly wrap any gift items for all those of us like myself, who are often times in a hurry.Listed in: My Neighborhood

Who is Nathan and why isn't he there saying hi to me?
I've been eying some of the cute stuff in this store for quite some time, so the other day while I was waiting for my to -go order at Gregoire, I dropped in. They were having a storewide 20% off sale and I immediately found a lovely scented oil diffuser that smelled better than anything I have ever smelled in my life. I went to pick it up and browse around some more and then I realized... why does it feel so weird in here? I was the only customer in the store and there were TWO girls working and not one of them even looked at me! Not a nod, not a hello, not a smile, not even so much as a glance!
I love the stuff in this store and I adore that they leave a bowl of water outside for our thirsty doggies, but if these ladies are the face of Nathan and Co, I hope they learn to at least say hello! I don't like to be harassed by people when shopping, but I HATE being ignored. I felt cold and lonely inside Nathan and Co. $25 scented oil diffusers ALMOST sell themselves, but not quite. You could have had me at hello.....
I will try again, but, PLEASE, ladies, a glance, a smile... SOMETHING! -

I love this place. If you need a spiffy but unusual gift for someone, try here!
-Space Invaders ice cube mold
-Magic Garden kit (look it up)
-Book on the fetish art of Superman co-creator Joe Shuster
-Packet of cool Thank You cards for job interviews (hope to use these!)
Also extremely cute baby stuff -- like homemade onesies crafted by some Oakland moms -- so once i have a job again I look forward to gifting some friends' little ones... -

This place is just perfect. So much fun stuff, and such a helpful and friendly staff. When I need a gift, this will be my first spot to check for a great present.
Plus - The store is totally dog friendly! Yay! -

Thanks to Nathan and Co. I am the favorite Aunt!!!
I spoil all of our friends kids with Nathan and Co.'s whimsical goodies. I had to stock up on kiddie animal slippers, a favorite of my little princess. I also just picked her up a fabulous princess wand to drive her parents crazy! I got her little chef brother a kit to make his own animal crackers, I need to go back and get him that classic Kazoo that I saw on my way out.
For our favorite babies that just arrived all over the U.S.(yes our friends have been getting busy) I Hella Love Oakland onesies.
You just can't go wrong with the amazing little goodies. I just want to gift everyone!! I am doing all my Christmas shopping here.
I love that the new space is not only closer to my house but a beautiful space as well. Yay!!! shop local. -

Nathan & Co is the perfect place to find a gift for yourself or others. I've purchased adorable items at reasonable prices that have been a hit with mom, friend, and co-worker.
Only drawbacks...they don't gift wrap but for a brand bag and tissue paper, and the customer service is decidely low key.
But low key is the way of Piedmont Avenue and I like it that way. -

I needed a gift fast and Nathan & Co. came thru! The mix was fun and eclectic, the prices ranged from reasonable to high. Happily they were having an after Christmas sale, so I bought a couple early presents as well as a few things for myself. I enjoyed just wandering and looking, but when I did need help the staff were friendly, helpful and and knowledgeable.
This will now be my first stop for gifts! -

so i'm a fan of this place. it's always a good spot to just walk in and browse, always new quirky stuff to check out and play with. so it is a toystore, there's a good bit to just have, but not necessarily anything you need. revisited recently on their 5th anniversary, was promptly entered into a raffle, offered a cupcake and champagne, and my friend got a 50% coupon for our entire purchase! holler! purchase of the day was a little succulent garden in a teacup, which now sits on my bedside table.
i'll definitely be back to browse and tickle my fancy. don't miss the upstairs section, either!
(and it's SO much better than rockridge home, i hope that place closes.) -

Whenever I need a special gift, I always go to Nathan's and I always buy something for myself too. I mean, who can resist with an inventory to die for and the wonderful personalities that work there and make the shopping fun.
My favorite thing that I bought there, a bright Tepper Jackson wallet, gets compliments every time I pull it out.
I love this store!!!!!!!!!! -

When it comes to trendy little home / gift stores, this is one of my favorites. The items are fun, hip and high quality, and there is a nice mix of kitchen / home decor / children's items which always seems impressively well thought out and cohesive for how eclectic it is. What keeps me coming back, though, is the constantly changing inventory -- I almost can't walk by this place without noticing something different in the window that beckons me in to see what else is new. A very well executed little shop!

Nathan's is plain and simple unrefined awesomeness. Plus Nathan himself is such a great guy! The rest of the people that I've met that work here are such friendly people that it's hard to not strike up a conversation with them.
I wish that I could stock our gift shop where I work with all the fun things that Nathan carries. Go here if you want to find a full range of gifts. From fun and cute, to stylish and modern. Seriously. If you don't believe me go see for yourself. -

SUPER fun shop. The sort of place where I spend an hour just looking at stuff and end up with an armload of things I bought simply because I want to give them to somebody, anybody! The best part is that nothing seems too terribly expensive here. There's a fun, unique, unexpected find for every budget.

I am a fan and frequent this store whenever I want to get a fun & funky gift that I can't get anywhere else for someone special. However, I went in today, and it seems they just can't handle the Holiday crowds! Customer Service was at an all-time low today and the staff was not handing out smiles for FREE!!! Yes, I do shop here for quality fun gifts and the fact the gift wrap, but really??? is it that bad to work at a cute shop on Peidmont Ave??? Lighten up people!!!

I love this store to pieces. I'm a sucker for anything cute, cool, funny, and twisted and this store has it all. Everytime I walk in, I say to myself "If I had a shop, I would want it to be just like this."
We're so lucky to have you in the neighborhood!!! -

Nathan & Co. is an interesting little place with some cool, quirky finds, including the replica retro airline bag from China Airlines I got here for $25 bucks. However, as amusing as this store is, and despite the fact that it's always enjoyable to walk in, I find the prices for some things to be a little outrageous. In the upstairs loft where they sell kitchen wares, there were fake display pastries and food made of styrofoam for sale, and a fake block of cheese was going for $27 dollars. I can buy multiple blocks of REAL cheese for that amount of money. And while the assortment of kooky goods is fun to peruse through, I honestly don't find myself in here very often simply because I don't feel the place gives me much incentive to return. The customer service isn't terrible but isn't stellar either. I wouldn't steer anyone away from here by any means, it's worth checking out, I just don't know how often it's worth returning to.

This place is great! 5 of us came into the shop to get our Hella Love shirts and the two guys working in the store were great! They let us take over the store and kept bringing us sizes until we were satisfied.
Not only that, they have some of the best cards I have ever seen! They were hillarious! Can't wait to go back -

Attention legit and wannabe Oakland lovers: get your "I Hella Heart Oakland" shirt here! Not the knockoffs on the street corner during Lake Merrit Farmer's Market! Not the knockoffs from Cafe Press. But the legit http://hellalove.com t-shirts. Ok, now buy one for all your friends who make fun of you for living in Oakland. And the woman who works here is an absolute doll. She's totally into hearing you make fun of your friends who make fun of you for living in Oakland and she'll return the favor. Yep, it is now safe to say that the self-proclaimed "suburban hellraiser" got urbanized!

Although I walked out empty handed I would go back to check out new merchandise. Nathan's is good small to medium sized gift place. The shop has a nice vibrancy to it. This is the only place I know of that carries the "I hella love oakland" t-shirts. Be sure to check out more stuff upstairs in the back.

Great store for gifts and hilarious decor. The buyer for this store must be the coolest. I was sucked into this store the moment I saw it, and ended up getting a gift for my friends. I'm sure I'll be hitting this store again before the holidays. Their stuff is awesome!!!!

I came by the shop the other day and saw a huge clearance sale because Nathan was picking up and moving. I was really bummed. Then, on my way home I saw the new Nathan's!!! Its still on Piedmont Ave but closer to all the action (near Gregoire) and its so much bigger. He can now pack in all kinds of beautiful gifties. Ive already picked out quite a few Xmas presents so I better get my booty back in there and buy them before you all show up and clean him out.

what an awesome store. I came in here looking for the "I hella love Oakland" shirts, and I discovered so much more! I didn't ask, but the gentleman that met me must have been Nathan. He was very nice and helped us find exactly what we were looking for. Everything in here is very cute and unique. I could probably spend hours in here looking at all the trinkets. And nathan was even sweet enough to nicely wrap our shirts in a cute gift bag, with tissue!! To be honest, I was just expecting some sort of plastic bag. But for him to really go out of his way to make sure you are happy says a whole lot! Love this place!

CUTE STORE!! I am so glad they moved to another location. The staff is super nice. I'm glad they have something like this on Piedmont.
