I love our little library. It's East Nashville and our Library kind of fits our neighborhood vibe, eclectic and unassuming. It' s obviously an older building and much of the original finish work is well in tact which I really enjoy.

I also love that it's small and quaint. I love our big library too but when I take the kids, it's a little less overwhelming for them to peruse the shelves and find specific books they are interested in. The kids section really is pretty small but it's well stocked and I think really ideal for kids getting to know the library.

As for me, well the adult fiction section is a pittance compared to most of the other branches. However, you can go on line and with the # on your library card, you can order up books that may not be carried at this branch and they will deliver and hold them for you. Sooooooo, I get whatever books I want and i never leave the hood. I pretty much stick to going to the shows at the downtown library because I never know when I might get back downtown and it makes it easier to manage returns from this branch.

If you go directly between 2 and 4 on weekdays, it is full of teenagers from the high school. I can't say that i have ever run in to a problem with any of them but if you are looking for the typical whisper in the library experience, it ain't going to happen.

While Nashville Public Library's East branch is nowhere near as grandiose and extensive as the branch on Broadway, it's still a pretty great little spot to read, check out some books or use the internet.  True, the hours are a bit erratic and it isn't a very large building, but it's quaint, clean and friendly.

The library is just across the street from East Literature Magnet School, and it's typically full of young students using the computer stations or perusing the books.  Their children's section is pretty good, and I was able to find some pretty interesting books despite the fact that sections like Reference are a bit lacking.

The East Library kind of makes me think of how libraries used to be.  It's local-friendly and you'll always find people just hanging out and reading.  If you need to find a lot of material or prefer enormous buildings with impressive, beautiful architecture, go to the branch on Broadway.  It's just nice to have a spot to take home some books without having to cross the river.

Like Kyla said, the East Branch library is full of kids from the school across the street after 3 pm.  This is a small library, so the kids tend to take over and make it unquiet.  I kind of enjoyed observing them, since I don't really know any school-age kids, but if you're going to the East Branch to study or use a computer, you'll probably be pretty frustrated with them.

You'll find a moderate selection of fiction and nonfiction books, magazines, music, and movies here.  The children and juvenile sections are relatively large, taking up about a third of the library.  If you're looking for something specific, you'll probably want to put it on reserve and have it delivered to the East Branch, or go to the main library downtown.  They also have a public copy machine and a meeting room downstairs with a big wooden stage.

Like many of Nashville's libraries, East Branch is a pleasant place to read and study, located in a beautiful old building with lots of natural light.

I'm not overly familiar with East Branch because every time I stop by I seem to come at the time when the kids from the high school across the street.  I'm glad they spend their after school hours at the library and all, but there's so many of them that the wait for a computer is endless.  If you bring your own computer to work or just want to sit down to read a book all the tables and chairs all taken.  So if you're going to go to East Branch make sure you check the hours before you leave the house because they're a bit odd and don't even bother going between 3 and 5.
