So you pay anywhere from $350 to $600 per night, and you basically get an overpriced motel with bad service. WTH?

Upon checking in, we were told that despite asking for a king bed, they only had a room with 2 queen beds. They did knock $100 off the room price for that, which is the only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of 1.

They also promised to send a complimentary bottle of wine to our room, but the bottle never showed up despite us issuing a couple of polite reminders.

The rooms are ugly. Period. Someone here mentioned that they look like they were decorated by your grandma. Yes they do.

Breakfast is served in an ugly dining room that only has large tables, forcing you to sit wedding-reception-style with total strangers. Not so good if you were aiming for a romantic getaway.

Prior to departure, we asked for a late checkout (1pm) and were flatly refused. I realize they don't HAVE to do that, but no hotel we stayed at has ever refused a 1-hour late checkout. And certainly not with such a snotty "we have lots more guests like you, we don't need to make any effort to make you happy" attitude.

If you like paying too much for ugly rooms, bad service and a mediocre breakfast, Napa Valley Lodge is the place for you.

This place kind of reminds me of a really upscale motel. In a good way. It's a nice enough hotel in Yountville but I'm assuming like everything else in Yountville it's very overpriced. It's not really upscale for a hotel and the hotel has a rather clinical, corporate feel to it. No bathtubs either which is a bummer for me, when I go on getaways I sometimes like to relax in a hot bath. Also like another person mentioned in their review I found the sheets less than soft as well. I did like their robe and spent a good amount of time lounging in it which meant I didn't have time to check out the pool and bocce court which both looked quite enjoyable. I would stay here again if I could find a better deal on the price.

The property is beautiful and very cozy.  It's also right across the street from Napa Valley Bike Rentals which makes life so convenient (I highly recommend doing the self-guided bike rental tour and biking around to different wineries).  The hotel is also 1/2 mile from all the restaurants and it's really easy access to Hwy 29 if you're going to St. Helena or Rutherford.

The rooms are really spacious and the bathrooms are great (granite showers and counters, big mirrors, great smelling shampoo and soap).  Each room has a patio and fireplace as well which is a nice touch.

My only beef is that the bed linens are subpar (go to Vintage Inn for the best sheets ever) :( There was no fitted sheet on the bed, just a flat sheet that wasn't big enough to tuck around the mattress, and instead of a duvet cover...there was a flat sheet sandwich around a duvet.  So odd considering the website brags about the Euro-style duvet covers...

Anyway, pluses are a nice pool and firepit, and complimentary breakfast every morning, and wine tastings on Friday afternoons.

Price: pricey, $279/night for a Deluxe King room

Napa Valley Lodge lives up to its name. It is a lodge- cozy, inviting, and relaxing. My manpanion and I escaped to the lodge for an overnight trip and were extremely pleased with all it had to offer. The room was lovely, as was the staff.

I loved: the fireplace in our room (with unlimited logs), the comfortable King size bed, the spacious bathroom with a huge shower, vanity, and sweet smelling soaps. The cozy robes that I wanted to wear ALL the time. Seriously....they were divine. Our private porch outside our room that overlooked a beautiful vineyard. The flat screen tv in our room. The lavender and orange chocolates left on our bed. The continental breakfast with fresh fruit and pastries and a tray to bring up to your room- breakfast in bed anyone? The chocolate chip cookies at 3pm....And did I mention the very friendly and accommodating staff?

We also indulged in an hour long massage each. Though the lodge doesn't have its own spa, it does have a spa services menu. For the massage, we were in the "couples" room. I must admit, I was a bit hesitant to use a couples room for massage, but I had no trouble relaxing. The 2 women that massaged us (forget their names) were so professional and worked quietly, which I appreciated. The room smelled so, so wonderful and I loved how they used hot washcloths throughout the treatment. It was one of the best massages I have ever gotten!

It was a rainy and cold weekend in Yountville and this lodge provided the perfect cozy haven to keep warm. It was within walking distance to the famous French Laundry, Bouchon, Bistro Jeanty, etc....Also, tons of wineries within walking distance, such as Girard and Jessup (highly recommended).

I wish every weekend could be as relaxing and cozy as the one I spent at the Lodge.

Stayed here for $155/night during their New Year's special and had a great time.  The rooms were spacious, very clean, and well appointed.  The staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

Hands down the daily complimentary champagne brunch made our stay.  They had a great assortment of breads, cereals, cheeses, fruits w/ mimosas galore.  Every morning I would fix a tray to bring back to my wife and 2-yr old daughter (she didn't get any mimosas though) and we would have a relaxing breakfast in our room.

The hotel is situated at the end of the town but everything is within easy walking distance.

Only complaint is that the water in the bathroom did not get hot enough to our liking.

Napa Valley Lodge is a quite comfortable hotel on the outskirts of Yountville.  The last time I stayed in Yountville, I patronized the Yountville Inn -- and I enjoyed NVL much more.  The bed was sublimely comfortable.  The appointments were nice and the setting intimate.

Service at NVL is wonderful.  Cassie helped me while making the reservation -- she was delightful, and booked reservations at wineries and restaurants so that we were all set up upon arrival.  We had a problem with our room and we were efficiently relocated with some accommodation granted to honor our inconvenience.

The one category where NVL didn't maintain consistency is with its breakfast buffet.  In a word, it was terrible.  To be sure, I don't care about breakfast and I normally don't eat it.  Had NVL attempted to serve a reasonable breakfast I wouldn't have even taken note.  Yet, at NVL, the breakfast is practically an insult.  I've eaten better crossiants from Trader Joe's frozen food aisle.  Holiday Inn Express would likely give NVL a run for its breakfast money.  I'm not kidding.  Entering the buffet, I couldn't help but to think that breakfast was merely an afterthought -- something that NVL had to offer but didn't really care about.  To me, that was inconsistent with the ambiance of the property and the theme of Napa Valley itself.  Everything about Napa Valley -- and Napa Valley Lodge -- resonates quality . . . so to find dry cereals and frozen baked goods on the table didn't seem to be in keeping with that personality.

I would definitely return to NVL.  I would skip the breakfast buffet, however, and go down the street to Bouchon bakery and enjoy some real baked goods and treats that would be worth the caloric commitment and certainly worth remembering.

I have never had such a peaceful and attentive hotel stay. The grounds and rooms are beautiful- I strongly disagree with a previous yelper. I loved the beds! I wanted to stay in mine for ever it was so soft and squishy and lush. Our room had a balcony where I ate my complimentary champagne continental breakfast. The room had an iron and ironing board, hair dryer, nice closet space, coffee maker if you wanted to use it, and even really comfy robes. There were books on the bookshelf, a nice touch, and tons of helpful information- I was with a native Northern Californian, but we still were grateful we had the detailed map of Napa in our room.

A special note about their continental breakfast- it is far and above the usual stale bagel and black coffee. There was egg salad, peanut butter and jam, hard-boiled eggs, all kinds of breads and pastries of course, delicious fruits and fruit salad, champagne, juices, coffee and teas and all the condiments that you could hope for. I really appreciated having such a delicious breakfast provided- it fueled me up to go wine tasting!

Front desk, bellman and maid service were lovely- kind and with great attention to our needs. Views of the hills were beautiful and the outdoor area looked lovely (it was too chilly to go swimming!). A bonus was the easy walk to delicious Bouchon for dinner. I highly recommend Napa Valley Lodge if you want simple, elegant luxury without a big to-do and top-notch guest service.

Eh.  Eh is about all I can really say about the NVL.  We spent the previous two nights at the W Hotel in SF which basically made the NVL's rooms look like they were decorated by your Grandmother.  (Absolutely nothing quaint or cozy about it. Just blah.)  And the room also smelled like an old person's house.

I'm not a big snob about hotels but when you're paying roughly $300/night, there should be something special or notable about it.  It's gotta be worth it beyond it's location. The NVL is much like a motel.  You park near your room and once you check in, you won't see the lobby again until you check out.  So, it's sort of private but in a seedy day-rate motel kind of way.

Yes, our room had a fireplace (with free Duraflame logs) but it didn't have hot water in the bathroom sink.  I complained but was told the hotel was booked solid -- and no money was knocked off my bill.  The patio was nice except the room was situated on the ground floor, which means that anyone else in a ground floor room could have easily wandered into my room since there was nothing separating the various patios.  The pool looked nice except we went for New Year's and it was 50 degrees out.

On the plus side, the hotel was situated in a pretty primo spot, close to many of the wineries we visited.  Free wi-fi was another big plus. Also, the mini bar was very reasonably priced and the room had a flat screen TV (although that was its only modern feature.)

Free copies of the SF Chronicle were provided outside of the dining room, where a free breakfast was served from 8AM - 10AM.
(If you get up later than 10AM, grab breakfast at the excellent Bouchon bakery just down the street.) The food was okay (no hot foods, just bagels, hard-boiled eggs, cereal, cheese) but they blasted really awful country music the entire time.  If you like Grandma-style rooms and country music, this is probably your place but for $300, for urban folk, this place was a tad anachronistic.

I recently stayed at the Napa Valley Lodge while on a girls weekend.  What an adorable hotel!   The rooms were clean and very comfortable.  Our room had a beautiful view of the Napa valley and we were able to sit on our balcony, drink wine, and take in the scenery..soo relaxing.  I was also impressed with the great service.  Everyone was very welcoming.  The best part was the warm chocolate chip cookies they put out nightly for guests...yummy.

The NVL is in a perfect location, right in Yountville. We walked everywhere..we tasted wine at Girard (great Zin) and had an incredible meal at La Bottega.  You must eat at this restaurant!

I have already booked another stay at the Napa Valley Lodge.  This time, I will bring my boyfriend up there for a romantic weekend away.

First time in Yountville, this hotel is across the street from shopping and a few restaurants.  The hotel is quaint, and quiet.  We had an upstairs room overlooking part of a vineyard and the pool/sauna area.  The staff was cordial, the rooms were fairly large.  The bathrooms were huge, and the showers had lots of space.  The beds were firmer than i would have liked, the fireplace with two firelogs was a nice touch.  Part of the upstairs hotel was off limits due to some construction.  The hot tub/pool area was gorgeous and the fire pit had plush chairs to sit on and relax at the end fo the day.

My husband and I enjoyed our brief Napa honeymoon at the Napa Valley Lodge.  This is a lovely hotel in walking distance of several restaurants, and well situated for your day trips around wine country.  The highlight for me was the fireplace and candles.  We lit lots of fires and enjoyed staying in as it rained all around us.  They provided Duraflame logs; I wondered out loud what would happen if there was a fire at the Duraflame factory, so after that I would often shout, "Fire at the Duraflame factory!"  Yes, that is what it is like to be married to me.

There were large candles around the fireplace and the huge bathtub.  You can arrange for an in-room massage and the desk clerk tipped us to the fabulous tour of Nickel & Nickel (http://www.yelp.com/bi...).  It is quite expensive, and I would recommend staying somewhere cheaper if you aren't going to be spending lots of time in your room.

We lucked out.

There are FOUR places to sleep while in Yountville, and everything was booked solid online.

We like action and adventure, so we really didn't want to stay in the area for longer than one night.  All the hotels require a TWO night minimum.

What to do?

Call and talk to a live person.  Being a Gen Yer, I'd rather not, but in this case it was necessary.

The payoff: Booked ONE night at a rate lower than published online.

The pool and spa area are under renovation, but open for use.

Rooms are decent.  Robes, Gilchrist & Soames toiletries, cotton swabs & balls.  Pretty good square footage and a nice view of the vineyard.

No frills here: self parking, and bell service is minimal.

If you need information about the area, just call 411, concierge is clueless.

Spa service are available in-room.  $100/hr.  I wish they brought a CD or turned on the radio.  The head rest on the massage table was super awkward and brought a TON of pressure to my face.  Other than that, the massage was a nice leisurely one.

Champagne breakfast ends @ 10am.  Wake up early, we missed it.

Location was perfect for our weekend grubfest.

We recently stayed at the Napa Valley Lodge and had a wonderful experience.  The hotel staff was friendly and attentive; our room had vaulted ceilings, a fireplace, candles and a great view of the vineyards.  You cannot beat the location of the hotel either, it is situated right off of Hwy 29, very easy to find and close to some great shops and restaurants.
Champagne continental breakfast was delicious.
I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.  I can't wait to visit again in the future.

My wife and I spend two nights at the Napa Valley Lodge, in Yountville, CA in November 2008.  I must say, I was very disappointed at my visit.  The locations and view that are shown on the website are very narrow in focus and do not represent the true presence of the Lodge.  In addition, upon making my reservation the front desk clerk asked if my stay was a special occasion; since I was celebrating my 20th wedding anniversary I affirmed - the Lodge was to have a bottle of wine in my room upon check in, no wine appeared during my visit.  In addition to the facilities, the nightly room charges were very much overboard for a pre-reservation vs. a off season night of stay.  I would not recommend the Napa Valley Lodge.

Many rooms have fireplaces and vaulted ceilings, which is immensely nice. Throw that duraflame log in the fireplace, light some of the provided candles, and pop open one of the cabs you just bought at Van Der Hayden's.  Perfect.

If you manage to make it out of your room after that, there's also a very nice jacuzzi, heated pool and sauna. If no one's around perhaps you could even go skinny dipping. Theoretically speaking.

Champagne breakfast is surprisingly good, held in a charming dining room - eggs, bagels, muffins, fresh fruits. Also fresh OJ and champagne for some DIY mimosa action.

A great place, but a bit impersonal. If I was staying in Napa again, I would tend towards a small b&b instead of a larger hotel like this. Fireplaces are essential though. I'm a convert after this.

great location, straddled between napa and st. helena.  I was in the area with a friend volunteering for an event at the culinary institute in st. helena, so I genuinely appreciated the lodge's location; just far enough out of town to not be in the thick of things, but close enough to pop into town without it being a bother.

staff were fantastic.  room was quite nice, with exceptionally comfortable beds.  heh -- after being on my feet for 10 hours at a stretch, I'd bet a wooden pallet would have been an acceptable bed; but these were very good, even by recent hotel bed-war standards.

I also enjoyed the breakfast service in the hall adjoining the swimming pool.  it was very pleasant to sit poolside in the morning sun and enjoy the surprisingly good fare.

overall a very good deal -- and a nice place I wouldn't hesitate to stay at again.

I just spent last weekend with friends in Yountville and the Napa Valley Lodge ... and I want to go back! The Napa Valley Lodge is in a perfect location within walking distance to all that Yountville has to offer. The service was spot-on. Upon check-in, the front desk worked to get us a reservation at Bottega, a new restaurant and hard to get table in Napa. (Get there if you can!) They were incredibly friendly and accommodating. The lobby was beautiful and cozy with just the right touches from the fireplace to the warm chocolate chip cookies. The room was clean and newly renovated with a flat screen TV, ipod dock and beautiful bathroom with granite counters. We also had a great deck with views of the pool, fire-pit and surrounding Napa hills. The property also includes a hot tub and gym. Although, we skipped the gym in lieu of wine tasting at nearby Girard and Jessup Cellars! ;-)

Considering how hard it was to find a 'reasonably' priced place in the area since I had a friend coming into town, I lucked out to find a room here.  While they are undergoing some construction work, that was a little noisy in the morning, but we wanted to get an early start anyhow so it wasn't a big deal.  Our room was one with a King and it was pretty nice.  We had a view of the vinyards out front and the highway but it was pretty quiet and perfect for us.  A good location that's not in the middle of everything, but closer to the wineries than most of Napa.
