super comfy beds and pillows! I love the sheet:comforter:sheet system they use - much more water-conscious than washing a whole comforter
The hotel is a Historic Hotel of America, which is evident in the cute, turn of the century decor in the lobby.
We had a room with a balcony that overlooked the jazz club downstairs, and I really liked that the windows were soundproof. The floors/ceilings, however, were not soundproof (see Erik U's review).
Spa treatments were wonderful, the hotel is in a good location, and its fairly reasonably priced. I'm glad to have the hotel as a part of my engagement story.

Spent a night here and had a really good time. The room was nice, maybe a little over hyped from the pictures. We got a good deal with spa and food and wine tasting. We had a view over the courtyard and the river. Our only problem was nothing to do with the place, although a suggestion comes out of it.
Get a place on the 3rd floor. We woke up to the glorious sounds of bumping uglies at 6 AM on the floor above us... 6 AM. Who knocks one out at 6AM Friday morning? Thin floors, thin walls and creaky beds.

OK, forgive me because I completely forgot to review this place a month ago when I was there. But here it is...
Such a cute and cozy little hotel right in the heart of charming downtown Napa. The rooms are lovely. Big beds, a nice bathroom, fine amenities, and clean as a whistle. Room service food is absolutely fantastic!
What's nice is that even though it is easily walking distance to Old Town Napa, the hotel has a shuttle service! Awesome if you don't want to mess up your heels walking to dinner ;)
Treat yourself to a night if you're gonna be in Napa!

Hubby and I stayed here for two nights. Quiet room, comfortable bed. Great breakfast served to our room in the morning. Overall the service was very good. I know that Napa hotels are a little pricey but I felt that this inn did not have a lot of ammenities for the price.
Cute and cozy place to stay and one of the most reasonably priced nicer hotels in the region. Room service brings you breakfast every morning and it's located in Old Town Napa (five minute drive from the wineries with a cute area to walk around at night) where I wasn't familiar with before staying here. No pool or spa (one is affiliated with them which I assume is very close) but a cute place that will still impress your significant other. After reading the previous review I asked for a room facing the lake and they happily obliged.

I had the best time this past weekend with my fiance here. Not only did they let us check in way early, but they upgraded our room for free! We stayed in the supposedly haunted room 207. Absolutely stunning! Nothing haunted us except the fact that it was so nice!!
The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is because there was a champagne/strawberry snafu. In the end, I would say 4.8 stars. I am thinking about giving my parents a weekend away here it's so good. My fiance and I will definitely come back. Renee and Tiffany are fabulous!
Great hotel with wonderful restaurants... We went to dinner, hit the jazz club, and then stumbled back to our room. Awesome!

A Historic Hotel of America... not a crapshoot at all! (Hu-rumph!).
Adjacent to the Napa River Inn and part of the Historic Napa Mill are: Sweetie Pie's bakery, Silo's jazz bar and wine club, Celadon fusion food, and Angele French bistro (unfortunately closed for a few weeks in January), and the Napa General Store. All of these top notch establishments add to the charm of Napa River Inn.
As for our room: We had a quiet evening in the Embarcadero building, 2nd floor; a lofty, comfortable bed with dream inducing, starch-ironed sheets (how do they do that? my toes wonder.) A Sweetie Pie bakery breakfast was delivered to us at 6:30am as requested since we are early risers. Homemade granola! Fab-u-lo-so! We got our room for $209, perhaps a room upgrade, just for coming during the slow season in Jan. Yes, we got a room facing the parking lot but it didn't matter because we were out exploring the property instead. Free Wi-Fi but I prefer an even faster connection.
Last night we checked Celadon's but finally decided on Zuzu's for dinner- 1.5 blocks away. Then we strolled back to Silo's to hear Wesla Whitfield. My 65yr old mom was delighted adding she used to beg grandma to watch Wesla on TV. Excuse me, Ms. Whitfield; can I get a picture with you and my mom? Thank you!
In summary: A charming inn with posh Engish decor centrally located to downtown Napa's main attractions on the river front. So sue me... I just love a pretty walk.

This is a great place to stay. The staff is incredibly friendly, the prices are much more reasonable than other places in the area, and it's nice, clean, and totally comfortable. It's an easy walk to downtown Napa and there's a nice riverwalk right outside the hotel too, so it's pretty convenient.
The huge plus is that it's dog friendly. They seriously love dogs and seem to be willing to bend over backwards to make sure you and your dog are comfortable, even if you have to go off to dinner without the pooch.
We'd definitely come back. The only down side is that I prefer hanging out in St. Helena and Yountville. While Napa isn't that far from those areas, it's not close other. Small gripe for sure. We still love this place.

I have to say, I've never been let down staying here. The rooms are large and accomodating, with fluffy pillows, soft down comforters and a nice deep bath tub for soaking those tired feet. You are very close to Old Town Napa so put on those comfy shoes and walk, walk, shop, shop! There are so many restaurants to choose that are right there at the hotel that you won't have to drive, so drink the wine! We enjoyed ourselves and the staff are very attentive and friendly! Everytime we go I end up buying something from their gift shop. Such unique things, I love it. The price is sort of expensive, but if you go off-season you can get a better deal. The Inn offers many, many complimentary services, they even have town cars that drive you around within the Old Town area. Gotta Love That!

Favorite place to stay in Napa ...
Napa River Inn is a cozy, non-kitchy/non-cheesy option for Napa. It's central location can't be beat - and years later, I'm still thinking about those amazing breakfast buns/rolls that arrive in the morning for you to enjoy on your balcony.

Dog friendly...
You're a San Francisco dog owner and you are looking to escape the city for the weekend. It'll cost you about $40 a day to kennel your dog if you don't have a trusty friend to dog-sit.
Besides, I hate burdening my friends with my dog. On a whim, we decided to head up to Napa so I typed "dog friendly napa" into Google and I came up with this WineCountry Newsletter (http://www.winecountry...) about all the places that are dog friendly.
The number one hotel they recommended was the Napa River Inn--with their Very Important Pet (VIP) Program. Oh my God, we are THOSE people! Anyhow, it's $25 to bring Fido along and they even give your dog a blanket to sleep on, food and water bowls, dog bags, and special organic dog biscuits made with real wine.
Our dog is in absolute heaven. What about the humans? The room is pretty damn nice for humans too.
* Terry bathrobes for two
* Fireplace
* 27" plasma TV
* CD player with a nice Jazz CD included
* Towel warmer in the bathroom
* Complimentary breakfast
* Complimentary bottled water
* Down pillows
* Free WiFi
* Complimentary town car service within 5 mile radius
Minus a star because there's no in-house spa and there's construction everywhere. That's probably what we get for coming in the winter but regardless, I'd come back here in a heartbeat.

We love this boutique hotel, we have stayed here multiple times and recommended it to a few friends who loved it as well. Part of the thrill of a boutique hotel is that it's smaller and a little more intimate than a larger name brand hotel, but it's not so small that it's bed and breakfast where you feel like you are staying in someone's house.
Things we love about it....proximity to downtown Napa...you can just walk down the streets, shop in boutiques, have great food, get great coffee. I love the on site restaurants, easily some of the better ones in downtown Napa. The general store on site is one of my FAVE spots...after we check in I always make a beeline for it to see what new things they have for sale. You can also do wine and cheese tasting in the general store's little cafe/restaurant, and they also serve food in there as well. The absolute gem on this property is their bakery, Sweetie Pies. LOVE IT. We never seem to get out of there without a little (big) box of pastries. You can walk downtown to do wine tasting in the Vintner's Collective building as well if you just want to do a tasting sampler and not do a full day.
The rooms in the Embarcadero Building are our top choice, they have all dark mahogany wood...the ones in the main building are typically more 'Wine Country Floral'. All the rooms we have stayed in are nice, we have not had a 'disappointing' room by any means, but the ones in the Embarcadero building have been our faves. The Floral main building rooms have patios and balconies that overlook some parts of the river, but also over the main courtyard, which is where the restaurant serves breakfast, beautiful but it can be loud starting somewhat early if you get one of these rooms.
The Embarcadero rooms also overlook the River which depending on the time of year can be full or low. We actually have stayed there one New Years Eve when there was a flood warning in effect, the river was VERY full! A lot of the rooms in this building also have balconies overlooking the river.
The service at this place is very good, check in is typically quite quick and I have had them respond quickly to me whenever I have asked for something. One thing we also love about Napa River Inn is the complimentary breakfast from Sweetie Pies, ham and cheese croissant freshly baked yum, with coffee and orange juice and a scone. Tasty!!! Sure it's a little greasy but what fun is it if it isn't?? It's a croissant!
Also, sometimes this place does 10% return guest discounts, so you might want to ask about it, or sign up for their emails because that is how I have gotten it before.
One downer about this place, it may bother some but does not bother us, it's right next to the county jail in that area. So it's kind of a funny placement at the end of the main downtown road, but right next to the jail. However we've never had an issue with it.

I guess I am jaded and over the thrill of a "luxury" hotel - I have seen the pillow menus and the complimentary glass of wine and other frivolities. It's just as well, because the Napa River Inn is not one of those places. That said, I guess this place did fulfill most of the requirements.
We traveling as a pack, on the hunt for good food and good wine, so space was a primary consideration. There was me, the missus, me Mum, and the poo-atch, all squeezed into one room! Actually, not so bad - the room was quite spacious, and the bathroom had a lock!
The included breakfast was just passable - a giant mc'egg bagel supposedly from some near-by restaurant, juice, granola. The coffe in the room was the worst I have had since... whenever!
The main down-side is that the neighborhood is really quite dour and boring. I guess I was imagining a cute little balcony overlooking a slow-moving river, but that was not it at all. Granted, soon the river wall will be finished and the water will appear more peaceful, but the highway on the other side does not look like it's going anywhere soon.
I also imagined a happening little entertainment scene, but the town has a few scant bars and restaurants to begin with and most are closed in the evening. I must say, I was disappointed with what was on offer (although we managed to have fun at Downtown Joe's).
You can't blame the hotel for all that, and they do provide a nice little welcome package for the poo-atch. 4 stars!
(I almost took off a further star because there is no bar in the hotel, In Napa? WTF! I was counting on that, given that we were traveling as a pack, if you get my drift.)

Nice hotel BUT only a few rooms are worth the price.
-The Plaza building rooms look like any Holiday Inn.
-All rooms overlook either a parking lot or the muddy river and industrial area beyond.
-1st floor rooms get all sorts of foot traffic.
-2nd floor rooms get music from the downstairs restaurant from 10am - 10pm.
-The Embarcadero rooms are gorgeous - but try for one of the two upstairs rooms that do not overlook the parking lot and face away from the restaurant and its awful music.
All in all, its a crapshoot - better off going someplace where the odds of a good room are in your favor...and you'll probably pay a whole lot less.

SUPER DUPER AWESOME! It was our first night stay in Napa, so we really wanted a special place, and boy did we find it! Several front desk staff helped us, including Melissa, Heather, and Armando. Each time we needed something, or had a question, we were treated like VIP. We got the Spa Us package, and because we weren't able to make our spa package, we were given vouchers. The only gripe was that I was desperately trying to log on to the computer, and couldn't because of a network/signal issue in the Embarcadero building. The rooms were spotless, and very cute and intimate. I would recommend this inn to anyone, especially if you want to be located close to downtown Napa.
I had the privilage to stay at the Napa River Inn recently. I stayed in a downstairs room that was extremely comfortable, well appointed and quiet. I was never once interupted by noise from anyother guest and the hotel was full. The morning breakfast that is included with the room was delicious, the river views are nice, ( i believe the city is working on landscaping the river, so the views will improve). The front desk staff was extremely accomodating, professional and friendly. Housekeeping did a great job cleaning my room every morning, The courtyard in the back is a perfect place to relax and enjoy some wine and cheese, or just sit in the sun and read a book. The hotel is located in downtown Napa, so you can walk to great wine tasting rooms, amazing restaurants, and some good shopping. I would highly suggest you check this place out when you go to Napa...

I love this place to stay for a weekend! It's so cute and total has a warm cozy feeling in the rooms. The standards rooms have fireplace, big King size bed with fluffy down pillows and comforter, chairs, and a desk with free wi fi! It's also right in the heart of downtown so easy to go downtown, shopping or hop on the freeway to your favorite winery. Also you can't beat their delicious and sinful breakfast every morning of your choices from Sweetie pies of buns, ham and cheese croissant sandwich, fruit that comes with your room! The quiche is really good and I just loved their Pumpkin muffin this time!! I just can't get enough pumpkin this time of year. It was really moist and not too sweet. There is construction going on next door but we were lucky that we didn't here them at all until later in the day when we were leaving to go wine tasting or dinner. Maids did a great job cleaning our room and keeping tons of fresh towels daily!

Charming little inn, clearly geared towards wine lovers (empty mini fridge in room for chilling wine you've bought after a long day of wine tasting, wine mags galore in each room, etc.) Decor is English countryside manor-- fireplace, dark tones. Breakfast from Sweetie Pie's is included in your stay. If you're there on business, there's free wireless in all the rooms. If you're visiting around Halloween, make sure to stay in Room 207 or 208-- apparently, those rooms are haunted!
