They have the best and I mean the greatest tasting spanish rolls and pandesal!!
They are always busy and everything is always fresh! Worth waking up early in the morning and standing in line for fresh pastries.
Employees will come out to help customers so the wait is not really that bad. Great customer service too! -
Review from Kim M.
Nanding's Bakery makes and sells a plethora of delicious baked goods. Among these goodies are things like ham & cheese roll, hot dog roll, different flavored ensaymadas, pandesal, raisin bread, and a bunch more. The most popular of them all is probably their soft, buttery, and slightly sweet Spanish Rolls. They look like a typical breadstick, but taste 100x better. Trust. These Spanish Rolls are so dang addicting, they will surly push the limits of any low-carb / no-carb dieter.
Nanding's Bakery's Spanish Rolls are a great choice when it comes to potlucks! Your order is put in a box and ready to go! Easy, easy, easy.
Aside from the tasty Spanish Rolls, I also like the ham & cheese roll and hot dog roll. Some people may feel these are just "A-OK," but I fancy the consistency and slight chewiness of the "roll" bread.
Anyway, if you are in the area, I recommend you give Nanding's Bakery a try. If not, hopefully you are lucky enough to go to a Potluck where someone brings some Nanding's Spanish Rolls!

4.3 stars.
Came here after a town hall meeting regarding urban planning around the nearby neighborhood's mass transit stations. Checked my yelp app for dessert options in the area of Roosevelt School and Nanding's popped up with its near perfect ratings!
Place closes at 7 pm, so we chanced a visit and were glad we did. Hole in the wall Filipino bakery offering a variety of local favorites, including their signature Spanish rolls that are quite simple sweet breads, but oh so tasty! We ordered their Coconut Ensemada, Chocolate Chip Scone (that looked more like its cousin, a large chocolate chip cookie) & the bread pudding.
The Coconut Ensemada was divine, of course slathered in beautiful butter. The coconut wasn't apparent, but more a part of the batter, hence it's airy, fluffy consistency: 5 stars! The best ensemada I have ever tasted!
The Chocolate Scone was a substantial disc-like bomb filled with chocolate chips & a cakey batter, delicious: 4 stars.
The Bread Pudding was substantial and dense. The crust was hearty and held things together nicely. The flavor was almost overwhelmingly cinnamon (which i liked) and not very custardy (which I didn't like so much). Overall a great eat with one hand bread pudding done old fashioned: 3.75 stars.
I'd say a totally satisfying find (from the looks of our quickly emptied greasy paper sacks). Looking forward to exploring more on their menu very soon.
Tally:
Coconut ensemada: 5 stars!
Chocolate scone: 4 stars
Bread pudding: 3.75 stars
5+4+3.75= 12.75/3= 4.3 stars.

The Spanish rolls are great for three for a dollar and is served warm. The chicken empenada was good, but not warm. I agree with another yelper that the Spanish roll is like a sweet breadstick.
There is a good selection of other baked goods in the display. The service is friendly and there is a small parking lot in the front. I had a hard time finding it because I thought it was on King. It is about 20 yards towards the ocean of King on Gulick Ave. -

Love Nanding's Bakery! I haven't been here in years but the spanish rolls are still very yummy! I ordered 7 dozens for my real estate class and everyone really enjoyed it. I also ordered one coconut ensamada which was awesome!
Nanding's is consistently great all the time! -

Getting here was probably one of the scarier drives I've ever taken on Oahu in my entire life... I never really get into the heart of Kalihi. I go to Liliha once in awhile for coco puffs or Chantilly cake or we have to go to Keebler's vet in Dillingham when keebler gets into something he's not supposed to. So if you're like me and avoid kalihi, you will be in for an eye opener if you ever make it down here. I saw people without clothes on, lots of homeless and drug addicts, and as my mom phrases it, the dregs of society. It's a very sketchy area and that's an understatement.
Anyway we finally make it here on Thursday afternoon and we accidentally park in the lot next door. Not to worry since neither place really has people in them and the guy was fixing the gutter in the bakery lot. We rush in and we stop because we have no idea what we are looking at in the bakery cases. Lary and I are used to long johns, doughnuts, and the "usual suspects." We didn't see any here but being here 30 mins to close, they could have been out.
I ask the lady if they were out of Spanish rolls and she laughed like duh it's our speciality of course we don't run out. Foolish girl. But anyway, I ended up getting a dozen so in case I ate them all, I'd only eat 11 (1 for lary). Made it in the car and first thought was is there really a dozen? They looked so small even if they were only 3 for $1. After I ate about six, yes there were really a dozen in there lol. However, they are really good and addicting. They kinda remind me of slightly sweet buttery breadsticks. So freaking delicious. You should really only buy a dozen so in case you don't make it to share with your coworkers you will only end up eating 12 not 36. Good thing the sketchy drive deters me from coming all the time now. Oh and cash only. -

For those who love pastries, this is the place. The "Spanish Rolls" are No Ka Oi. They should be called "Filipino Rolls." LOL! I've never seen Spanish Rolls in Latino stores or markets.
Food:
My preferred choice of bakeries beside "Leonard's."
Service:
Friendly Pinoy's.
Atmosphere:
Ghetto, but worth buying from.
Price:
As long as the food is good, it don't matter to me. Reasonable.
Parking:
Only 4 stalls. I've never had a problem.Listed in: Best of the Best - Hawaii, Not sure where to go…

Love Love Love their spanish rolls!
As everyone knows its 3 spanish rolls for $1!!!! Incredible value. The only reason I'm holding back a star is because I haven't tried any of their other goodies!
Other than that, Nanding's is pretty easy to miss if you are going by too fast. Parking I kinda lacking but for the most part I think everyone is just in and out after they claim their prize (spanish rolls or other goodies) -

At Nanding's you can't go wrong with the Spanish rolls, melt in your mouth little pastries that are more addicting than Pringles. Lots of great sweets there! Hidden away in the residential area just off king street. So good, you just can't stop. Be sure you try it while still in the parking lot, you my find yourself going back in for more.

Nanding's Bakery sells the best spanish rolls out there!!!
Their spanish rolls are sold at 3 pieces for $1, which is a pretty good deal. They also sell other baked goods, Filipino products, drinks, and coffee! Aside from Spanish rolls, they sell "manapua-like" items. They are pretty much a roll of bread with meat stuffed in. They have corned beef, adobo, and many more. Their baked goods are perfect for an early morning breakfast for all you early-birds.
I believe this location opens at 4am. This location is also small and parking is very limited. Their Waipahu location has ample amounts of parking. -

Aloha,
I never heard of this place and had to get pastries for a co workers. The staff was very nice. The line was long but it did go fast. I got 4 dozen ($4 a doz) Spanish rolls and the crew at work loved em! As for myself I'm not a fan of sweet bread but i do have to say it was fresh and tasted good. They dont accept credit or debit :( -
Review from Kelly J.
It's my first time eating Spanish rolls EVER and I stuffed 3 in my mouth right away, literally 2 minutes ago. The keys are getting oily as I type. I couldn't eat just one, like all the other yelpers challenged. This was a challenge I would gladly fail over and over again.
These addicting sweet rolls with butter insides are laughing in my tummy. Laughing because that laughter is their call for their comrades. They know I'm going to eat more if I can and make me a fatty. They know I don't want to be a fatty, but they also know they are worth being a fatty for!
How to resist?!?!?! Can't. I just put another 3 down the tube. My tummy is laughing with them now. It's telling me to go back and try their other pastries. -

You can call them Spanish Rolls if you want to.
They are made from some sort magical elf rolled into a soft dough and then sprinkled with highly addictive crack.
When they are warm, the aroma intensifies your inability to refuse the second and third one.
Highly recomend that you wear spandex pants or a loose fitting muumuu to go eat here- DELICIOUS!!! -
Review from Jodi S.
1. This is not a fancy smancy bakery serving cute little pieces of artwork that you don't want to eat because they look so darn pretty. It's a hole in the wall bakery in a hole in the wall building on a hole in the wall street that has lots of holes in itself (fun to drive on if you like off roading.)
2. This IS a bakery where the Spanish rolls are super awesome, especially freshly baked. It is near impossible to eat just one at a time. They are buttery pieces of heaven and just thinking about them makes me want to stuff my face. -

Nanding's Spanish rolls.
Part of the reason why I can never go "no carbs."
My aunty always brings em around to family parties. Let me tell you, I can resist some pastries, but this one I cannot resist.
She puts a stash on the side in a ziploc for me to take home, but to my dismay, I find that by the time I reach my house on the drive home, they are all gone! Spanish rolls, once you start, you can't stop. 1...2...7 consumed? oops. -

If you haven't tried a Spanish roll yet OMG you don't know just how much you are missing out on this yummy pastry. It literally will melt in your mouth and have you begging for more. Who said you can't have more than one. You probably will eat at least three in one sitting. This bakery also has other yummy goodies....but I always seems to just buy their spanish rolls.

My boss shoved a box of rolls into my face. "Have a Spanish roll!" she ordered, shaking the box. "Umm, okay . . . " I muttered uncertainly as I took a bite. "Mmmm--what is this? This is GOOD!" I exclaimed, still chewing.
Nanding's is a little hole-in-the-wall Filipino bakery in Kalihi with hardly any parking, a long line, and agonizingly slow service. But all this is worth it for a dozen of those Spanish rolls, their specialty. They look like little breadsticks, except the middle is slightly sweet and buttery. They also carry pan de sal, custard and pumpkin pies, and assorted other Filipino baked treats (sorry, I don't know what they are and when I ask, they don't really tell me).
Watch your budget here; you can end up spending a lot. The rolls are three for a dollar and they are pretty tiny. -

BEST FILIPINO BAKERY YET.... Spanish rolls are to die for, especially if they're fresh out of the oven ... you can't have just one....maybe a dozen haha. It's like they put crack on them or something. Pandesal... they make me feel like I'm back home in Manila Philippines.... "there's no place like home... there's no place like home!!...."
Oh.. they also have another location in Waipahu... right behind of Suzie's =) -
Review from Alex L.
If you're Filipino or have friends who are Filipino or pretty much are an adventurous food eater, then you know that one of the many sweet ingredients that us Filipinos have to have in our dessert is ube(purple yam). We mix it in the halo-halo and we even make it as an ice cream flavor. Too bad it's not one of the 31 flavors of Baskin-Robbins!
Anyways, I originally wanted to have some spanish rolls today. I thought it would go perfect as my dessert after my lunch, whatever it may be. It was the perfect timing because I knew that Nanding's Bakery, who is famous for these rolls, is less than a mile away from where church is. I ventured to this bakery as soon as church was done hoping to get a dozen of Spanish rolls. However, lo & behold, the ube enseymada (pastry topped w/ butter & white sugar & ube filling) teased me & made me forget what it was that I originally wanted to get. It was love at first site which turned quickly into a love at first bite!!! I bought 3 ube enseymada = $1.25 each; 2 ham & cheese rolls = 1.10 each (which turned out to be my lunch) & a bottled water. My total purchase came out to $7.85 which I thought was fairly cheap. I "inhaled" the 2 ham & cheese rolls as soon as I got in my car but waited til I got home to eat one of the ube enseymada. The ham& cheese rolls were good but not great. But the ube enseymada started a party in my mouth as soon as I took my first bite. I ate it slowly because I wanted that party in my mouth to last. Some people might find this pastry overly sweet but it was just right for me. The butter w/ sugar on top of the pastry complimented the ube filling in the pastry
Staff are not very friendly and parking can be a hassle but that won't deter me from going there again!!! -

Whatever day it was I came here was Filipino Day. First lunch at Mabuhay, then dessert at Nanding's. I was too stuffed to do anything but nibble on the Spanish rolls, but they were interesting. Not well-suited to my palate as I prefer baked goods less dry, but I can see why other people write sonnets about it. When I go back to Hawaii, and you can bet your ass I will, I plan to try everything else they have to offer. So yeah, I wrote a review about one item. Nyah!

Visit: 5/20/09 - Snack. Someone brought the spanish bread to our office.
The spanish bread is really tasty. This is a light and fuffy bread with mild sweetness. Nothing fancy with this treat. They call it a bread, but it's more like a pastry made with bread dough.
No idea how much it cost.
I would go back and get more. -

Waipahu, HI
This is the original nandings bakery home of the famous and delicious buttery sweet spanish rolls! You cant eat just one so be careful because, before you know it, youve eaten the whole box! haha. The cheese bread is also really good, its a sweet bun stuffed with cream cheese and the ensaymada butter sugar topping...mmMMmm good. The pandesal is also good. The rest of the bakery items are just okay. Prices are also very cheap, 3 spanish rolls for $1, cant beat that. I love that they opened up a second location thats closer to home in waipahu =9 and with a lot more parking. Here, the place small so might be a little hard to miss as and the parking is VERY limited so get there between peak hours. Rolls always come out hot and fresh every time ive been there so come and get some and enjoy your taste of carb heaven!

All I know about Nanding's Bakery is that they have these fantastic Spanish Rolls. I was visiting a friend when her colleague brings in a non-descriptive, classic white, bakery box. My friend screams, grabs my arm and within 2 seconds we're staring at rolls.
They may not look like much but I dare you to try to eat just one. I DARE YOU!
Buttery and lightly sweet. Perfect.Listed in: Favorite Food Spots in…

this place sells the crack-like rolls that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!! Their spanish rolls are soft, buttery, and sweet -- the perfect triad when it comes to pastries. Since that joint is right across the way from my nail salon, I only go there when I get my nails done, which is like 1x a month. This is how awesome their rolls are: my boyfriend works in an office where there are NO Filipinos (except for me when I do my lunch-time visits-LOL), and when I bring Nanding's they get all wild!

While I was at home, I had the opportunity to try some of their wonderful Spanish rolls...I must say they are really delicious. I also tried their adobo roll, which wasn't all that great cool, but I must say I wouldn't mind trying it warm. I loved them so much I decided to bring some back to California. I brought back 4 dozens. Of course I shared them with friends, and most of them said how delicious and addicting they were. I fortunately still have a dozen left in the freezer. My technique to them staying tasty is, heating them covered with a moist towel, on half power in the microwave. I've also had them heated in the George Forman, which isn't perfect, but it's still very tasty.
