I've lived in Arvada all my life and I'd like to think I know a couple things about good food in this city and just wanted to say: NAMIKO'S HAS THE GREATEST SUSHI IN THE WHOLE METRO AREA!
The decor is awesome, with blue walls and fish tanks galore. Prices are standard for a sushi joint and the sake is awesome cold! Very relaxed setting, with waiters and waitresses who make you feel like family... All in all, if your a fan of delicious squishy fishy's, please go indulge at Namikos.
North Denver's best sushi house...
Sushi Hai? Sushi Sasa? Don't bother! Head north to 52nd and Wadsworth to Namiko's, where you will find fast, friendly and efficient service, and some of the freshest sushi here in the heart of the Midwest. The specials' board features several delightful options whilst the standby favorites are all there. You know your sushi is fresh because the restaurant is always busy. The locals know what's up... One word - consistency! I can go back anytime I like and always expect high quality sushi for a great price. Namiko's? Go figure!
You gotta love a place that combines fish tanks with blue walls and metal fish sculptures. It reminds me of that bar they go to at the beginning of Wayne's World where Garth orders the giant mai tai. Probably not the place for a first date.
Decor aside, I thought the sushi was decent....not the best in the metro area. I liked almost everything we ordered though. They had my favorites, and some unique combinations we tried.
If you live in the area (and like sushi), Namiko's is worth a look.
Namiko's, better then any sushi place in the state of Colorado. We dont even try any other places any more. They are the best. We are treated like family every time we go there. The Line of Fire Shrimp-Amazing!!!
I wouldn't call this the best sushi place in town. I think it's a good choice if you're looking for a quick sushi lunch or dinner. My boss often has me order from here for holiday parties, staff lunches, etc.. and they are pretty good about getting a quick platter of sushi together. I think my favorite thing about this place is the actual restaurant. I love the atmosphere. Some people find the aquarium theme to be a bit much, but I found it to be relaxing.
Hmmm... how can I begin writing this..
Yesterday, on Wednesday January 14 2009 evening, a group of sushi lovers and I went to Namiko's Sushi Bar & Japanese Restaurant for our sushi feast.
One of the assistant organizer, her fren and I came early before the time we were schedule to meet. I prefer to come early to "feel and see" the area of the restuarant.
Decor wise, yup it feels like you are "under the ocean" or "under the sea" type of feeling, lots of fish tanks and where we were seated the wall were painted BLUE and were decorated with sea creatures sculptures... there is a weird kind of distint smell that I cant figure out and definitely the place is JAM-PACKED with patron who likes to eat sushi that evening.
At first the service were NON-existant, but as the time the whole group were seated, the service was prompt. Our main server was accomodating while she was assisted by 2 other serves for our group that evening too.
I ordered the norm things I usually like to eat:
Appetizers:
* Green Mussels
Nigiri Rolls
* Uni
* Tobbiko
* Spicy Scallops
* Ebi
* Unagi
* Amaebi
Hand Rolls
* Soft Shell Crab
* Lobster Tempura
All in all its OK sushi. The Soft Shell Crab Hand Roll can do better since its way too salty and taste not so fresh for my taste bud. The rest of the sushi I ordered was OK. I Am NOT WOW about this place.

We really like this place.
Favorites:
Line of fire shrimp appetizer - wow!! yummy!
Tomodachi - really great flavor! Love the cooked albacore on top
Shrimp Tempura Roll
Unagi - great flavor, cooked very tender.
Inari - hubby said they came with wasabi inside and were yummy
Tamago - not as sweet as i;ve had previously but yummy
Would not do again:
Hot Chix - calamari - just wasn't a memorable flavor
Final Fantasy - the baked salmon wasn't a great flavor in the roll
Spicy tuna - alone not that great, very tender but the spice was not all there.
Yes the decor is cheasy - but that makes it fun! All the sparkly items on the wall.
The sushi bar itself is huge - we tend to eat at a table.
The staff is great. They all work together so plates come and go with whomever is available.
The delivery is super fast!
We like,that since the location is so big we have never had to wait for a table.
It is also in a good location to Costco - so if we plan it right we can dine and shop in one fell swoop!
Come in and give it a try, you'll like it!
I wanted to like this place because it is the closest sushi restaurant to our house.... but based on our visit last night, I don't see us going here again. The food was OK, not great (with the exception of the egg rolls, which I thought were very strange and had a weird aftertaste). We had the Line of Fire appetizer, which was pretty good - probably the best part of the meal. We also had some sushi pieces and the Chicken Katsu Curry, which were both pretty average.
The one thing that really irked me about the experience was the service. We thought that all 10 of our servers were very nice, but do we really need that many people helping us? Especially when the servers do not appear to communicate with each other, so we were asked the same questions over and over again, and no one seemed to know what we had ordered.
Bottom line: I would rather make the trek downtown if I am going to splurge on a sushi dinner.
Edited to add: The Line of Fire appetizer is shrimp tempura with scallions and a spicy sauce.
This place has good, fresh, well-prepared sushi. Great service every time we've been. The "finding nemo" motif wears a bit thin, although I do enjoy checking out the big saltwater aquariums they have throughout. The fish get 5 stars, the execution gets 4 stars, the environment/ambience get 3 stars. Averages out to 4.
This is a great, local option for those times when you don't feel like driving into Denver or Boulder for a good piece of raw fish. And yes, it's got that good sushi smell. Makes me hungry just thinking about it...
Sushi lovers in NW Denver, this is the place. Arvada is not the home of many great restaurants, but this is one of the best. Their sushi is always fresh, the service is excellent. The staff is always checking on you, filing water glasses, clearing plates, etc. The huge saltwater fish tanks add to the overall atmosphere. This is a family run business and they take great pride in their work. Whenever we are in the area we always stop for a meal at Namiko's. They are closed on Mondays.
Namiko's has been a favorite Japanese restaurant of mine for the better part of 15 years. I started going there when it was only half its size with my parents. Their katsu dons are fantastic... the breading on the pork is not too heavy and it's not too greasy. Just right. I've been there more often for their sushi which has always been good quality. Each entree comes with a soup and salad - the salad comes with a wonderful vinaigrette. My pseudo hubby didn't think much of the dressing... but I always think it's great!
If you're in Arvada and in the mood for sushi or Japanese fare - don't miss out on Namikos!
Okay, the sushi is is pretty standard stuff, but it's fresh. If you want to try something different, come on a cold day and try the Nabeyaki Udon -- a searing couldron of broth with big tasty udon noodles and variety of shrimp, fish cake, etc topped off with an egg that gets cooked by the soup. That's why I'm giving four stars.
Also, if you're interested, read about Toshimi Yuri Chandonnet, the owner (Namiko is her daughter). Pretty cool American success story.

Sushi snob alert! If you are not a sushi snob, you can take my review with a grain of salt (or a drop of soy sauce, in this case). Just be forewarned...
Namiko's is located in a soulless strip mall in Arvada. And honestly, that doesn't bother me one bit. There are some really good ethnic restaurants in crappy strip malls--probably because the rent is cheap and newcomers can actually afford it. (Face it, a mom-and-pop ethnic food restaurant probably ain't makin' it in Cherry Creek.) Inside the restaurant, the decor is a bit "cruise ship-ish" as one of the previous commenters mentioned. However, Namiko's made a great first impression on me because it has "the smell". Good Japanese/sushi restaurants have a very particular smell. It's not a fishy smell, but a very particular smell of rice, Japanese foods and a hint of sushi-brininess. That smell tells me the place is authentic.
We sat at the sushi bar and I will admit, the fish was very fresh. I had the sushi combo and every piece was very good. The salad was average, with typical sushi restaurant salad dressing (how is it possible that they all have the same dressing?). The miso soup was passable. The green tea was excellent.
My gripes? Well being a sushi snob and all, presentation is a really important part of the meal. And unfortunately, Namiko's didn't do so great in that department. The give you generous hunks of fish, but there's not much imagination. And they also have a bunch of American-palate oriented rolls that involve some variation of fried-something, cream cheese, and chili sauce. And while I'm sure they're good, they represent the Applebees-ification of sushi.
Ok, I'm totally being a hater. Overall, if you've got a sushi craving go to Namiko's. It's good sushi at a reasonable price. If the ambiance was a touch more sophisticated this place would be 4 star worthy.
My snobby ass will be returning to the Imperial Palace now.
I love this place...I looooHoooove this place! They have the freshest food, and the green mussels are killer!
When I am hanging out with my NW Denver crew and we get a hankering for sushi Namiko's fits the bill.
Not only is it beautiful and comfortable inside, but the sushi is pretty darn good. Their prices are standard and they have a few close your eyes and mmmm! rolls.
The service is friendly and attentive. We usually hit them up before we see a movie since it's right down the street from the theatre. I like the relaxed atmosphere and the fact that I don't have to get dressed up to go in. Plus I love that they close at ten on weeknights. Even when we showed up a 9:20 last night with a craving we never felt unwelcome!
Going out for dinner on a Sunday night to a sushi restaurant in the suburbs and finding a wait is insane. Discovering that there is a children's birthday party happening there is even crazier. However, the experience turned out to be a positive one.
Their salmon was beautiful, and we had a really tasty spider roll (that was enormous). My friends were really pleased with the spicy tuna and Inari. We had an attentive waitstaff despite how busy it was, and the decor was really nice - my daughter was a big fan of the three giant fish tanks.
I do wish they'd used sea salt on their edamame - ridiculously small criticism.
All in all? If I lived anywhere near there, I'd definitely visit again.
Went there again the other night after not going there for over 3 years?? Dang that's insane!! I used to live sort of over by there and went fairly often. I wasn't disappointed. Fish is always fresh, service prompt and friendly. Not to mention I found a good friend of mine from college working there now. I'm guessing this place was remodeled a while back because it's almost twice the size it was last time I was there and now they have a full bar right when you walk in. Line of Fire Shrimp is not to be missed I guarantee it, as for the other rolls and sashimi, order what you like, it will be great! Also the green mussels are to die for. I'll be back for sure. Sorry I've been gone so long.
I'd give it 4.5 if possible, my personal favorite in Denver. Blows sushiden out of the water in every way except being the cool place to go. Friendly owners and very fresh food. Try the line a fire its their most famous appetizer. For sushi they always have fish on special and toro for a good price.
Aw, Namiko's, my favorite sushi place in the metro area. It's in Arvada, and yes, in a strip mall no less! From the outside, Namiko's looks unassuming and even a little drab, but when you walk in the fish tanks and happy decor immediatly brighten your mood. Next, you will be greeted by a super friendly waitstaff and sometimes by a line of people waiting to be seated...yes, in a strip mall in Arvada there is a wait for Sushi! I have eaten here countless times and have never waited more than ten minutes and it's more than worth it.
So, you're seated, either at the Sushi bar or at a table, you order drinks and browse the menu. The prices are pretty run of the mill and they have some awesome specialty rolls. Don't leave without ordering the Line of Fire Shrimp appetizer, it's amazingly tasty! Some of my favorites off the sushi menu are the Spicy Tuna, the Crab Asparagus roll and the Hamachi. My absolute favorite though is the Tomadachi Roll..it's baked with cooked Albacore Tuna on top and lovely sliced strawberries in the middle. To die for! It's one of the 'close your eyes' rolls that Andee H. was talking about I'm sure of it! During your stay, you will have several people waiting on you and asking if you are doing well or need anything, there isn't really any competition for tips or tables going on here that I've seen. That all adds to the comfort and enjoyment you experience here, great food, great service and acceptable pricing. Love it!
I thought this place was way overrated. The atmosphere? Well, the décor reminds me of being on a cruise ship. I will give it to them, they do have some different types of rolls, most of which I would never order. I would pass on this place. The staff was nice, but the food overall was not that great.
If you don't like sushi, you will like this place. If you do like sushi, you will love this place. The prices are good, the service is great, and the portions are very good sized. I only like the cooked rolls and they had plenty to choose from. I HIGHLY recommend this cute little jewel of a sushi bar.
Fresh, great sushi... and affordable. Great for kids, they love the aquariums. I get takeout when company comes. It is really good and an easy alternative. Sushi and movie night with the family.
I used to love this place. Five years ago, I told everyone about this little gem in the strip mall. The last two times I have been there granted it was late, around 8:30, the simple rolls were skimpy on the fish as well as poorly rolled. Also not being real busy the sushi chefs at the bar were more involved with the four giddy young women at the center of the bar than paying attention to us. I have kinda felt this way the last two times I have been there, not to mention myself and my girl friend were sick with the runs for 2 days after, we also ate Thai the next day and so I can not completely for sure blame Namikos. Also on the board was the special of the day of a spicy octopus roll, it came poorly rolled and slathered in mayo like they were pre-made the day before and they pulled them out of the cooler. The best places of sushi I frequent the chef's look busy and everything comes out fresh. I hope they read this and make some changes because this place used to be one of my favorites. Most of the reviews here, sorry to be judgmental, but they don't seem very sushi savvy.
I used to be completely obsessed with this place. Now when we go it seems like the rolls are 70% rice. I love the "line of fire shrimp", the "less than zero roll" and seared tuna. I like that the place is family owned but the sushi chefs aren't very friendly or talkative. they used to participate in the united mileage plus dining program but they don't anymore. the prices are a little high i think. overall it's solid.
The best thing about Namiko's for us is it's location. It's away from the insanity of the inner city or southern suburbs in an easy to get to strip mall in front of Sam's Club in Arvada. The food is pretty good from the hot food menu to the sushi and the staff seems to be on top of their game. The decor is nicer inside than the outside would lead you to believe. As with any sushi bar, bring plenty of money if you're hungry because this isn't a "buck-a-scoop" kinda place. You can easily drop $50 by yourself at lunch if you can eat a few rolls and quaff an Asahi or Sapporo or two. Better than most.
